Bodysuits For Bughead: A Riverdale Podcast
Hey y'all, it's Maria. Who asked for a rant about Riverdale? I am returning for our Lost Episodes (1x10-1x13 and 2x01-2x09) and potentially 4x19, 5x01-5x03 and whatever in the time jump brings me enough joy that I want to podcast it. Also, I rant about Josie and the Pussycats being mistreated by the writers (who else watched Return of the Pussycats? 5x15 will def be on the list of episodes we're gonna podcast!) In the meantime, if you miss Bughead as much as I do, I'm still writing Bughead fic on AO3: stonerbughead. And if political moments on TV teen dramas are your jam (you listen to my podcast already so maybe they are?), listen to my new podcast Leftist Teen Drama! See y'all soon with 1x10 xoxo Maria
Hey y'all! Maria here; I know it's been awhile. I've got a couple pieces of good news, though! I've launched a new podcast, and I wanted to share the trailer with you! Leftist Teen Drama is a podcast celebrating political moments on TV teen dramas, hosted by me, Maria DiPasquale, your favorite unionist and teen drama enthusiast. produced by Jeff McHale, with art by Maddy Wiryo. Episode 1 is currently streaming on Podbean, Spotify, Amazon Music, TuneIn, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Listen Notes, and iHeartRadio! Check it out! And you can follow us on social: instagram, tumblr, tiktok: @leftistteendrama | twitter: @leftyteendrama | website: leftistteendrama.com Oh, and the other piece of good news? I'm planning to return to Bodysuits For Bughead soon. Stay tuned, more on that coming.
feat. guest: Hailey “They’ve done such a good job of writing these Stonies as the shitty ultrawealthy that they are. Wonderful critique of capitalism, guys, I love it. And so to finally see them get their comeuppance and Betty and Jughead take them down as the working class heroes that they are? It’s gonna be so beautiful!” -Maria So we were kinda *joking* about this episode being 42 minutes of Betty and Jughead acting smug as fuck...but like, it actually is and we are living for it?! We get Peak!Bughead as they take us through pretty much...everything that happened all season up until that moment, including the night Jughead almost died. We gasp at ALL the Baxter Brothers/Tracy True secrets that are revealed, from DuPont and Forsythe I to Chipping jumping out a window to Donna Sweett’s real motive for revenge. Come along for the ride with us as we joke, theorize, and love all the Bughead and the core four finally being reunited (above ground.) (And of course, we have lots of anti-Barchie arguments and pleas with the writers to stop this baiting nonsense that makes no sense for the characters they’ve developed over the past, idk, four seasons.) As always, check out our bodysuit looks on Insta at bodysuits4bughead or Twitter at B4B_Podcast. RIP Luke Perry, love forever. ————————————————————————————— A message from Rebecca, who is taking a step back from the podcast for the foreseeable future: “I want to start off saying how much fun this experience has been for me and how I want to ultimately figure a way to be able to play a role again in the future. I am in grad school now and my program is just overwhelming me. I'm also just a person so sometimes life gets to me too. I want to be able to be the best podcast co-host to my dear friend Maria, and to those who listen! Right now, I just have to take some time for myself and focus on school. I will be back! Because I need to know who that damn Twiggy-Smalls is and I have too many bodysuits now for my own good! Thanks to Maria! Thanks to RAS! Thanks to Bughead! XOXO Rebecca.”
feat. guest: Kelly “We are in a time of crisis. The primary, the coronavirus. Can Riverdale just make sense? That’s all I’m asking.” “That’s all I want.” “A little bit of sense, even.” “I want just, like, a feeling of...release. Of resolution.” “Arousal..” “A building tension maybe?” If you know, then you know—this episode is an emotional rollercoaster. Come along for the ride with Maria and Kelly as we theorize, shriek, laugh our asses off, and scream when the show FINALLY confirms what we knew to be true all along—JUGHEAD IS NOT DEAD! Also: Maria explains her Jughead-as-demisexual headcanon again and we talk critique of the fandom toxicity intentionally fueled in the promotion for this episode and whether Charles and Chic’s connection will play a role in the back-end of the season. As always, check out our bodysuit looks on Insta at bodysuits4bughead or Twitter at B4B_Podcast. feat guest: Maria’s boo/B4B producer Jeff “Jughead’s not dead!” -Maria, approximately a dozen times throughout this podcast “I’m spending every second of every scene trying to figure out what could be a different level of a lie or not a lie or who knows what or doesn’t know what.” It’s a wild, post-Stonewall-Prep-party ride with Betty, Archie, and Veronica! Amongst all our confusion, rambling theories, and deep hatred of the Stonewall Prep kids, we find time to be excited about Mary Andrews coming out to Archie and the badass/swoonworthy moment when Betty threatens Donna in the forest wearing Jughead’s Sherpa jacket. Other than that, Jeff continues trying to convince of us of a Sabrina crossover and Maria mostly waxes poetic about the hopefully-soon-to-come steamy and romantic Bughead reunion. We also talk Skeet Ulrich and Marisol Nichols casting news (soon-to-be-bye-bye FP and Hermione!) and the possibility of a less-parent-heavy Season 5 if Riverdale does the time-jump that has been heavily rumored (and which we are rooting for!) As always, check out our bodysuit looks on Insta at bodysuits4bughead or Twitter at B4B_Podcast. feat guest: Maria’s boo/B4B producer Jeff “This is kind of THE episode that we’ve all been building toward all season—really, since the Season 3 finale when we saw the first flash-forward” -Maria Epic, investigative, angsty, and romantic Bughead! Cute, comforting Varchie and sexy, scheming Choni! The “final?” showdown with the Stonewall preppies and their apparent ringleader DuPont! We have so many theories about everything that goes down ~conveniently~ on the Ides of March—and we KNOW that our boy Jughead is not dead. feat guest: Sofia “All I’ve ever wanted is for Betty and Jughead to be like, ‘you know what we’re not gonna play on your terms, you capitalist fucks, we’re leaving.’ Ugh, yes! That is so on brand for me. Bodysuits For Bughead approved.” -Maria Another good Bughead ep, we. are. LIVING! In this jam-packed episode, we cheer on an investigative Betty and freak out when she discovers that Donna has been the mastermind of Stonewall Prep all along. We have a lot of fun with the three-part Jughead vs. Bret duel, including a ton of Chilton vs. Stonewall Gilmore Girls parallels inspired by that fencing bout. As expected, we have a LOT of reactions to Archie’s latest absurd fight scene(s) and we thoroughly enjoy wonderful friendship moments with Cheryl, Fangs, Toni, and Kevin, and Veronica and the introduction of Katy Keene! Content warning for some questionable politics around consent and sexual assault: Maria talks about the Donna reveal, the Toni/Nick plotline, and those sex tapes all being in one episode at 1:13:14 - 1:20:42 As always, check out our bodysuit looks on Insta at bodysuits4bughead or Twitter at B4B_Podcast. feat guest: Kelly You know what they say...a big Bughead episode means a LONG episode of Bodysuits For Bughead! What a fun ep! From a quiz show team of powerful Riverladies to tickle porn and maple-rum being sold by a kidnapped killer mother, we have a great time. We obvi have a LOT of feelings and screeches to share about Bughead’s storyline, many opinions about Archie’s management of Andrews Construction, and, ya know, your standard confusion and attempts at making sense of the flash-forwards. We also talk about the announcement that Hedwig and the Angry Inch will be the Season 4 musical! As always, check out our bodysuit looks on Insta at bodysuits4bughead or Twitter at B4B_Podcast. feat guest: Hailey Cheryl: We’re going on strike! Maria: Yes! They’re doing direct action! Ooh, yes! Withhold your labor! Age-old labor tactic. This is beautiful. Y’all, has it EVER been clear that Riverdale is depicting an indictment of the super-wealthy than in this football championship episode that gives us the owning-class Stonewall assholes playing against the ragtag Riverdale working class team? (Cough, cough, billionaires shouldn’t exist.) Maria and Hailey have so much fun with this last hurrah for the River Vixens and Bulldogs, from a wild final cheerleader musical number to Cheryl and Veronica’s new joint business idea to Betty’s ongoing investigation with the help of Monica Posh and a Chilling Adventures of Sabrina cameo. Plus: our usual amount of confusion, disbelief, and attempts at theorizing around the latest troubling Bughead-related flash-forward. Oh, and we also talk Katy Keene excitement and Riverdale’s Season 5 renewal(including what post-high school Riverdale might look like.) Feat guest: Jeff “The three endgame couples are like, holding each other while they watch a fiery boat of a flaming body float away. Romantic.” -Maria TBH, this mid-season finale gave us whiplash—from Archie and FP’s team-up to run the Dickinson brothers out of town to Jughead bashing a skull in with a rock as initiation into a creepy secret society to Cheryl’s Red Queen trial of Penelope Blossom and subsequent letting-go of Jason (finally!) via fiery Viking Funeral on Sweetwater River. Meanwhile, in “Hills We Are Willing to Die On” territory, we continue to plead with the writers to let Veronica have non-Hiram-related plotlines, and, as Maria is NOT a fan of this Betty storyline, we plead once again for our dear Betty to go to regular therapy sessions. P.S. Having recorded our live reactions on December 11, we were still in a bit of shock over the Riverdale writers actually trying to get us to buy that Betty Cooper killed the Love of Her Life Jughead Jones (seriously, good one, y’all) so while we throw some ideas around, a more coherent discussion of flash-forward theories will commence on our 4x10 podcast~ As always, check out our bodysuit looks on Insta at bodysuits4bughead or Twitter at B4B_Podcast. Feat guest: Sofia Remember when we spent our entire podcast so far arguing that these kids needed therapy and then Riverdale decided to do a Therapy Episode™ instead of letting the kids actually go to a therapist on a regular basis?? Well, *sigh* we’ll take what we can get. We cheer on Cheryl finally confronting YEARS of trauma and Betty finally speaking her truth about Alice’s awful, abusive parenting, are concerned for both Archie and Jughead’s safety, and yet again, BEG Riverdale to let Veronica have a plot that doesn’t involve Hiram, like she deserves—though we do appreciate how badass she continues to be. Plus, we attempt to decode the latest flash-forward trying to unsuccessfully convince us that Jughead is dead. We discuss a few excellent articles on this episode and highly recommend you read them in their entirety: -Slate, March 22, 2018, “New Pop Culture Trend Alert: the Black Lady Therapist” by Aisha Harris -The Niche, November 24, 2019, “Did Riverdale Base Its New Season On That Esquire Article About Bennington College in the 1980s?” by Lucy -Esquire, May 28, 2019, “The Secret Oral History of Bennington: The 1980s' Most Decadent College,” by Lili Anolik -E!News, December 4, 2019, “Katy Keene is Heading to Riverdale for a Crossover Before It Premieres,” by Lauren Piester As always, check out our bodysuit looks on Insta at bodysuits4bughead or Twitter at B4B_Podcast. Feat guest: Kelly “I know other things are gonna be happening, and I’ll watch them and stuff, but I am here for Bughead having sexy times, cuddly times, and investigative times. You know, the Big Three?” -Maria It’s Thanksgiving in Riverdale—the wind’s a-blowin’ and an ice storm’s a-comin’, Hiram somehow became mayor overnight, Cheryl and Toni have a body to hide, and Archie’s just tryna feed some homeless kids to live out his late father’s legacy of good deeds! We cannot get enough of the snowed-in, investigative Bughead plotline pulled straight from a fanfic with badass Betty to boot, and we fully believed that Cheryl and Toni actually tricked the Blossom relatives into cannibalism for a good portion of the ep. Darla is Kelly’s problematic fave, Mary Andrews and Veronica Lodge are total badasses, and we have so many theories and thoughts about the deep, richy-rich Stonewall conspiracy that Bret and Donna are TOTALLY helping DuPont hide. Feat guest: Jeff Bodies are dropping, y’all! Along with Maria’s guest Jeff (her partner/B4B’s producer), we talk FP’s inconsistencies about what his childhood was like with Grandpa FP as Jughead discovers a Baxter Brothers revelation that threatens Stonewall Prep’s rep and may connect to the flash-forwards; are horrified by Cheryl’s family continuing to be more shitty every time we learn something new; and cheer on both Veronica on as she stands up to her murderous family and Archie as he tries to do the honorable thing, saving kids from being trapped in Dodger’s particular portion of the cycle of poverty. We discuss Bughead Season 2 parallels and are generally in awe of how adorable and communicative an investigative duo they got to be in this episode. Jeff thought Chic’s name was 'Chip' this whole time — and of course, we shriek and talk about all the things we learn about the Charles-Chic connection! Oh, and finally, we make a lot of jokes about how DuPont is a Jeffrey Epstein-level-scary-wealthy-man because like...after this wild ride of an episode in which Mr. Chipping straight up YEETS himself out the window most likely under Evil DuPont duress...this dude has to AT LEAST be in Epstein’s little black book, right? Feat guests: Rosalie and Tara The keyword for this episode is THERAPY — whether we’re talking about an MIA Cheryl/Toni who we’re still very concerned about, repressed memories revealing that Betty’s serial killer dad tried to groom her to be violent from an early age, or FP’s own unresolved daddy trauma that Jughead’s research about Grandpa Jones brings up. We admire a very badass Veronica (Luna) as she contends with Governor Corrrupt-ass Dooley to free Hermione and meets her foe in Hermosa (Lodge), the mysterious half-sibling who foils Veronica’s plan to keep Hiram in prison. Oh, and we cannot get ENOUGH of the El Royale merch Archie somehow had made between teaching kids to box/going to school?? by day and fighting crime as a superhero by night. With the return of the ~annoying~ serial killer gene plotline, we referred to an excellent article from Refinery29 published on May 9, 2019: “The Serial Killer Gene on Riverdale, Explained” by Cory Stieg. Feat guest: Kelly “Riverdale is basically one long Halloween episode I feel like?” - Maria It’s Riverdale’s first-ever Halloween episode and Maria and Kelly have a LOT of fun — so much fun that this podcast is longer than usual, but we hope you don’t mind ;) From shots fired at the community center Halloween party to pranks in the super-creepy new principal’s office to being drugged/hazed by classist prep school kids to being prank-called in the most triggering manner possible to sexy seances with secret dead triplets to taking on a serial killer with a fiery scorpion bowl — it’s a WILD Halloween night in Riverdale! We laugh, theorize, shriek, scream, and politicize our way through all the horror movie homages, romantic moments, and an insane flash-forward! Feat guest: Sofia Jughead: You better take your breaks from me while you can, Cooper, because you and I are in this for the long haul. Maria and Sofia: *SCREAMING/SCREECHING/BREATHING HEAVILY* Who knew the final showdown with The Farm would involve Betty saving the day with a bobby-pin, a Principal Weatherbee redemption moment, and a LITERAL ROCKET?! In this wild ride of an episode, we talk about everything from Veronica Luna and why Jason’s body isn’t decaying to sexy car washes and Archie and Mad Dog’s newest enemy Dodger, to Bisexual King Moose and what hints about Jughead’s Stonewall Prep mystery we can extrapolate from “The Secret History” by Donna Tartt, which Maria finished right before this episode aired (and which RAS cites as an influence for this season’s prep school arc.) Feat guest: Hailey It’s senior year, baby, the high school hijinks are at an all-time high, and we are HERE for it! Okay, first of all, this is an AMAZING Bughead episode and we talk about ALL of it: the sexy af night-before-senior-year sex, the cute kisses, Betty being the most supportive girlfriend of all fucking time as Jughead decides to transfer to Stonewall Prep. Then, there’s the fact that they FINALLY addressed Reggie being abused by his dad and dug into two fractured friendships: Betty/Kevin and Reggie/Archie. And of course, from Cheryl having her dead brother in the basement and starting a prank war with Dawson’s Creek-alum Principal Honey to Veronica being followed around by an absurd number of paparazzi and performing All That Jazz before a press conference, this show continues to be wild and we continue to Love. It. So Much. Obsessed. Season 4’s gonna be a good one. As always, check out our bodysuit looks on Insta at bodysuits4bughead or Twitter at B4B_Podcast. Feat guest: Liv “He was our dad for three seasons” -Liv Tears are shed, hearts are broken and then warmed, and much praise is given to the epic and emotional performances delivered by all of the cast members in this intense, beautiful stand-alone tribute episode to Fred Andrews and Luke Perry. We celebrate Luke’s life in the best way we know how — laughing and joking and loving this show, the characters, and their love for each other! And thankfully this beautiful season premiere allows us to appreciate lots of friendships, relationships, and a community coming together (+Bughead holding each other close, of course) as we look forward to Season 4 and the start of senior year for our beloved teens. **LINK TO LIV'S NEW BLOG (and a very special Riverdale article)COMING SOON** As always, check out our bodysuit looks on Insta at bodysuits4bughead or Twitter at B4B_Podcast. feat guests: Rosalie and Mackensie *APOLOGIES FOR THE DELAY! This episode was recorded LIVE on the night of the Season 3 finale in May; Maria’s personal life got really hectic this summer and she needed an editing break which is why we’re only just now posting the edited episode. Thanks for your patience!* This was truly one of the wildest season finales of ALL TIME. feat guests: Hailey and Sofia We have some theories about the Gargoyle King and plenty of shrieks to match the organ-harvesting Farm revelations, gruesome boxing sequences set to Beyonce cover songs, and gangs of feral Eagle Scouts. From Cheryl and Toni’s dramatic escape scene to Betty being dragged away by Fangs and Kevin to Veronica pinning her own crimes on Hiram in a very satisfying GOTCHA moment - with the help of Cool Mom Mary Andrews and the Red Paladin - this is a penultimate episode to remember! We also gush about Lili, Cole, Madelaine, Camila, and Charles’s Met Gala looks and talk about Katy Keene being picked up to series, which means - as Maria puts it: “Asheigh Murray aka Josie actually gets to be a character!” As always, check out our bodysuit looks on Insta at bodysuits4bughead or Twitter at B4B_Podcast. Feat guest: Kelly “Betty’s so traumatized” - us, continually, throughout the episode It’s a G&G-themed junior prom, because of course it fucking is! There is nothing more Bughead than getting involved in planning prom night just for the sake of an investigation, so you bet your ass we swoon over their entire plotline. We’re basically just as worried about Archie’s health and safety as Mary Andrews is; are shocked by the bombshell Pop drops on Veronica before prom; are terrified for Betty as the Black Hood returns; and despite how good Chad Michael Murray still looks shirtless, we really, really want to liberate our babes Kangs and Choni from the Farm! feat guest: Jeff Even though we were sad to see this episode was too action-packed to give us any good Bughead moments, we have fun going along for the ride as the Jones family embarks on a quest to save Jellybean from the Gargoyle King. We have a multitude of reactions to all the variously absurd and jaw-dropping pieces of information that Betty’s investigation and Toni’s infiltration reveal about the Farm. (Evelyn’s old! Sister Wives! The cult is trying to trap Betty by slowly recruiting each of her friends and family members?! How many cult tropes can the Farm do?!!) Sadly, with a final epic performance, we say “see you later!” to Josie McCoy in this universe as she departs for Katy Keene, and *sniff* say a very somber goodbye to Fred Andrews, as this was Luke Perry’s final episode he filmed. In ship news, we bid a bittersweet farewell to Archosie and speculate about whether Varchie feelings may be rekindling. And finally, Jeff gets very angry that Elio is attempting to prosecute Archie for Randy Ronson dying in the ring, because - as Jeff passionately yells - “THAT’S NOT HOW FIGHTING WORKS!” Oh, and BONUS: Juniper and Dagwood inspire an impassioned Jeff PSA about why you shouldn’t name your kids wild names. feat. guest: Rosalie It’s the final five eps of Season 3, y’all, and things are getting wild! We have a lot of reactions and feelings as FP and Jughead follow the trail of a bad batch of Fizzle Rocks, get excited at the prospect of a Toni-Betty team-up to take on the Farm, praise Lili Reinhart and Madchen Amick’s acting in those intense Betty/Alice bunker scenes, and have a lot of feelings about Archie’s big boxing match (another near-death experience!? come on, stop tryna kill Archie!) In ship news, we talk the need for Choni development and possible resurfacing Varchie feelings. And finally, we ponder: ‘what is a cult and what isn’t a cult?’, ‘are Alice and Chad fucking?’, ‘how are Cheryl and Alice seeing dead people?’, and many other questions about the Farm. *Thanks for your patience, y'all! Feat guest: Hailey 3x16 asked the question, ‘can’t we be seventeen?’ 3x17 said: NOPE. - Maria Once upon a time, Maria and Hailey watched a lot of One Tree Hill together, so we HAD to gush about Chad Michael Murray’s first full episode of Riverdale appearing as Edgar Evernever! We cheer on woke!Archie speaking truth to power to get his friends out of prison, talk about how we don’t want Jughead and the rest of the Serpents to be cops like, at ALL, and sympathize with poor Veronica dealing with the most teenage thing of this entire episode as she copes with her parents’ divorce. In addition to having lots of reactions to that overly dark and dramatic drug raid scene, we muse about how many different forces of evil are preying on the vulnerable in this town - from Cheryl getting charmed into the Farm to Mad Dog having to accept Elio’s offer to shield his family from Gladys’ drug trade to the ever-looming threat of the still-present Gargoyle King that attacked Baby Teeth! Things are wild, but hey, at least we get some hot pillow talk from our favorite detective power couple to keep us fed. Listen now! *Thanks for your patience, y'all! Feat guest: Maria’s sister/best friend/fellow longtime Heathers stan Sofia “We have definitely been Heathers stans since before people casually called things stans. Since like...teen years, I guess? Is that when we started watching the movie like, all the time? We bought the DVD and we were just like, yas bitch.” - Maria “Yep, we bought the DVD, when people still bought DVDs” - Sofia We love Heathers, we love Heathers THE MUSICAL, we love Bughead, we love Riverdale musical episodes!!! We talk about our personal history with Heathers and Heathers the Musical before delving into what has quickly become one of Maria’s favorite ever episodes of Riverdale. In a podcast we recorded live, we point out parallels to the Heathers movie, screech and squeal through all the Bughead scenes/kisses/singing/dancing/casual arson, sing along to our favorite songs, gush about all the amazing performances and costumes (we are super grateful they let Casey Cott sing this year!!!), and, finally, we have heart palpitations during the “Seventeen” Bughead/Choni double duet, AS ONE DOES. Oh, and it wouldn’t be a Riverdale musical episode without a killer ending...you better believe we have thoughts about the introduction of Edgar Evernever aka when they dropped a wild Chad Michael Murray and ran! feat. guest: Jeff It’s Riverdale’s 50th episode!!! And FP’s 50th??? birthday! (We’re skeptical about the math here, but HOKAY, Riverdale, we’ll buy it.) In this wild ride of an ep, we talk the Falice/Fladys love triangle, critique these terrible parents for being terrible parents, lament/try to make sense of the Choni and Veggie break-ups, and are incredibly weirded out by Gladys Jones buying the Cooper house. Jeff narrates/breaks down Archie’s entire Red Paladin Quest Battle in the boxing gym through the tropes of anime tournament sequences. Oh, and y’all: the Bughead-sharing-a-plotline-drought is OVER, and this episode left Maria feeling FED. Feat guest: Hailey *this episode and all future episodes of our podcast will be dedicated to Luke Perry, as Riverdale has done with all future episodes of the show.* From Kevin’s terrifying Bunsen burner ritual and fire walk to Alice selling off the Coopers’ murder house and the Farm blackmailing Betty with her secrets, we have a LOT of thoughts on cults this episode. On the Gangland side of Riverdale, we cheer on Veronica as she fights back at Hiram and Gladys by hiring the Pretty Poisons and cringe at all the Choni tension and Gladys’ not-so-hot La Bonne Nuit performance. We are literally UNABLE to believe that yet another person is trying to kill kind-hearted, traumatized, literally BRANDED Archie. Oh, and finally: we have some FEELINGS about Betty Cooper pulling a Cheryl-Blossom-childhood-home-arson at the end and then immediately coming to give Jughead a smooch and help her best friend Archie. Oh, Riverdale, this is why we love you. As always, check out our bodysuit looks on Insta at bodysuits4bughead or Twitter at B4B_Podcast. feat. guest: Nick “So we have four gangs?! The Ghoulies, the Serpents, the Pretty Poisons, and the Gargoyle Gang!” - Maria “Tag yourself.” - Nick BETTY COOPER DESERVES BETTER! In this cult- and gang-filled episode, we talk Cheryl and Toni’s new gal gang/power struggle; our disappointment in Veronica for picking PRISONS over DRUGS (gurl NO!); and Gladys Jones’ new influence over Jughead, the Serpents, and Hiram Lodge. We hype up Josie and Archie as they put on impressive performances on the stage and in the ring, and tell some of our own raised-Catholic memories in light of Alice’s horrifying Farm baptism! feat guests: Jeff (Maria’s boo) and Sofia (Maria’s sister) Fun fact: we recorded this episode live on 2/6, which was Maria’s 25th birthday!!!! We have a LOT of fun with the reverse-core-four episode. We’re so excited for Josie, Cheryl, Kevin, and Reggie to get their much-deserved time to shine (even tho we miss Bughead. Sue us!) Even better, this is a ship-tastic episode! We have a lot of thoughts on this Sweet Pea/Josie/Archie love triangle(ish), our new favorite mafia couple Veggie and their heist, and Choni having their first fight (slash casually starting a girl gang.) We go on an emotional rollercoaster with Kevin and Moose’s arc, cackle at the series of Riverdale couples getting interrupted during sex by their parents, and are super intrigued by Gladys Jones, the newest parent villain, back in town. Maria had originally recorded 3x10 live with Hailey and 3x11 live with Nick, but unfortunately both recordings were deleted due to a bug in the audio program we used. Thanks for your patience with these episodes as we re-recorded and caught up on editing* IT’S THE NOIR EP and we’re OBSESSED with all the styles, the super noir music, Jughead’s suspenders, Veronica’s hat, you get it. We talk Archie’s PTSD, Veronica’s teenage mob princess tendencies, are obsessed with the entire Bughead-discovering-Penelope-Blossom’s-Maple-Club sequence, and in our own ways, we’re all VERY passionate about Kelly Ripa and her guest appearance as Hiram’s mistress. In other ship news, we talk our opinions on Veggie/Varchie/Archosie following Varchie’s breakup. And in cast news, we talk Chad Michael Murray being cast as Edgar Evernever(!!!!!!), Season 4 renewal, some Charles Melton side projects (THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR and that Ariana Grande music video) and Nicki is very late to the party about Charles/Camila and Cole/Lili dating IRL. Thanks for your patience with these episodes as we re-recorded and caught up on editing* Archie rises from the ashes of his bear attack and he…clearly has PTSD! Oh, and he has to take the SATs now. Typical teen drama, are we right?! We rant about Archie’s need for therapy, are shocked by the Tall-Boy-as-Twig-Man reveal, get incredibly angry at Alice for stealing Betty’s $$ and driving her to see her serial killer father, and gossip about all the ships, but especially the Veronica/Archie/Reggie love triangle. IS ARCHIE DEAD?! Rebecca joins us again before her semester starts, and boy, did she pick a WILD mid-season premiere to come back for! We had a plethora of reactions, emotions, and rants to provide while watching Riverdale 3x09 - “Chapter Forty-Four: No Exit,” from Archie’s bear attack and subsequent longass dream sequence; to Serpents fighting with each other and against the Gargoyle Gang; to Betty discovering suicidal Gargoyle King-worshipping nuns and the Farm scooping up the SOQM refugees! And while it was a dark ep, we did have our share of squeals during the lighter moments - from Married!Bughead cuddles to that entire Cat Burglar Choni AU plotline to a super hot first kiss for Veggie! It’s a WILD Season 3 mid-season finale! Along with guest Jeff, we talk the entire first half of the season so far, have all the feelings about meeting Gladys and Jellybean for the first time, and cheer on all the bitches getting shit DONE—from Cheryl and Veronica teaming up to take on the parents, to Betty and Ethel finally setting their differences aside to take down Sister Woodhouse and liberate their fellow oppressed/brainwashed gals in red cardigans! Also, uh: is Penny Peabody dead? As the episode ends, we talk our hopes, dreams, and theories for Season 3B: wondering what’s gonna happen with this quarantine/Hiram being in control of the town; sharing hopes for more screen time for Josie and Choni; speculating about whether Reggie/Veronica (Veggie) and Archie/Josie (Archosie? Jochie? Do y'all know?) will soon be happening; and Maria making MANY demands regarding a hot/sexy/romantic Bughead reunion! Three stories, brought together by Hiram Lodge, aka the Man in Black! Along with guest Jeff, who is dead-set on his theory that Clifford Blossom is the Gargoyle King and tries to persuade us throughout the episode, we dive into this super aesthetic Riverdale episode! We admire the Cole Sprouse-y photographer!Jughead scenes and plead with Archie not to trust Laurie Lake aka Grundy 2.0; feel super uneasy about Veronica taking Hiram’s advice, speculate about whether Reggie is feelin’ Baby V, and talk Pop being one of the only decent people in Riverdale; and cheer on our girl Betty as she takes on Ethel and tries to investigate the Sisters of Quiet Mercy/the Gargoyle King! AHHHHH! We’re getting closer and closer to the mid-season finale and Riverdale 3x06 - “Chapter Forty-One: Manhunter” is chock full of shocking moments, with Betty interrogating the parents about the Midnight Club and coming face to face with the Gargoyle King - not to mention sent off to the Sisters of Quiet Mercy! We have a lot to say about Betty and the parents, Joaquin’s death (RIP to the OG teen Serpent), that emotional and heart wrenching Varchie break-up, and Archie hitting the road! Thankfully, we got some relief in some adorable, well-lit Bughead moments and cute friendship scenes with Fred and Tom, Kevin and Archie, and Jughead and Archie. Listen now! "I’m so excited for Archie, he’s been in prison for five whole episodes" - Rebecca "Five episodes! That’s a long time in Riverdale universe!" - Maria ~Throw it away, forget yesterday, we’ll make the great escape!~ Boys Like Girls, anyone? It’s the GREAT ESCAPE! The whole Scooby Gang is getting together to put on terrible disguises and break Archie out of prison and we have a lot of feelings about it. We freak about crazed Gamemaster Jughead, laugh about the heavy-handed parallels between the prison escape and Jughead’s Gryphons and Gargoyle quest, talk our latest Gargoyle King theories, the future McKeller wedding, badass Betty Cooper on a motorcycle, and more! As always, check out our bodysuit looks on Insta at bodysuits4bughead or Twitter at B4B_Podcast.
“They’re gonna play Gryphons and Gargoyles in Saturday detention a la Breakfast Club with Anthony Michael Hall as the principal, apparently.” -Maria “That’s a wild sentence. And if anyone who didn’t watch this show just all of a sudden heard that clip, they would be like, ‘what the fuck is Riverdale about??’ But that’s why I love Riverdale” - Rebecca It’s here! The much-anticipated flashback episode! We have so much to say about ALL the parents’ sad origin stories (which explain why they’re awful parents we guess?), Sierra and Tom’s beautiful star-crossed lovers story, the unclear nature of the Alice pregnancy timeline, and how much we still love Fred Andrews even in the early 90s! We speculate wildly about who we think the Gargoyle King is after Alice finishes her story, and talk all about how the young actors took on the challenge of portraying their parents! #SaveJughead As always, check out our bodysuit looks on Insta at bodysuits4bughead or Twitter at B4B_Podcast.
Okay yes this is a long one, y’all, but...between the Evernever cult knowing all the Cooper secrets...to Jughead having to play Russian roulette with Ethel in a weird twig crown...to the speakeasy opening with: Josie’s iconic performance, sub!Reggie, and dom!Veronica figuratively fighting back at Hiram’s legion of doom like a badass (with the help of Choni)...to Archie LITERALLY fighting in an underground prison fight club...to Bughead LAYING NAKED IN THE #SEXBUNKER...to fuckin Falice sneaking around fucking and also burning shit in a FIRE....can you blame us?! The second episode of Season 3 is WILD and THINGS. GET. POLITICAL! We’re back to our “fuck prisons” mantra from Season 2, going in depth about the “riot” that occurs at the juvenile detention center and commentary Riverdale may be making on the prison industrial complex. We talk the introduction to Evelyn Evernever, the apparent youth wing of The Farm, and Archie’s ridiculous football game/pep rally/iconic Jailhouse Rock performance he plans during his like, FIRST WEEK in juvenile detention. And of course, we spend much of the episode heavily appreciating Bughead getting back to their roots as a sleuthing duo investigating the Gargoyle King and his deadly game, while wondering if Ethel spent the summer in a weird sex bunker with Dilton and Ben?! It’s a jam-packed ep, listen now! As always, check out our bodysuit looks on Insta at bodysuits4bughead or Twitter at B4B_Podcast.
IT’S SEASON 3, BITCHES!!! We settle in for the Season 3 premiere, reacting to the twists and turns of Archie’s trial; gushing about all the summer pool party looks; pleading with Betty to see a therapist forreal; and speculating wildly about what the Gargoyle King is and what happened with Betty’s seizure/potential hallucination of a baby fire ritual! Rebecca already hates Edgar from the Farm with a burning hot passion before we’ve even seen him, and Maria makes the case that “SweetPussy” should be the ship name for the new Sweet Pea/Josie ship. Buckle in, y’all, it’s gonna be a wild season and we’re so excited! As always, check out our bodysuit looks on Insta at bodysuits4bughead or Twitter at B4B_Podcast.
