Ring! Ring! Wanna see something super HOT before the summer? Queen’s Musical Theatre brought Heathers to Kingston! In this episode, CFRC’s Nathan Zhe chatted with QMT’s Vocal Director Ryan Killoran about QMT and their upcoming production hitting the Baby Grand April 10th-17th! Details below! Queen's Musical Theatre is proud to announce “HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL” as our Winter 2025 Production. Book, Music and Lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy. Based on the film written by Daniel Waters, “HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL” was originally directed Off-Broadway by Andy Fickman and choreographed by Marguerite Derricks. “HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals. www.concordtheatricals.com. “HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL” follows the story of Veronica Sawyer as she navigates the usual trials of high school: friends, popularity, love and murder. With music, book, and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and Kevin Murphy, the musical adapts the 1989 cult classic dark comedy movie of the same name. The musical shows Veronica's relationship with the popular mean girls at her high school, all named Heather, and her romance with the new mysterious boy in town Jason “J.D.” Dean. But things begin to escalate as J.D. shows his darker side and soon people start to die. Veronica must deal with the school's believing the deceased to be complex, tragic heroes who took their own lives, instead of bad people who were murdered. Heathers: The Musical knows what to poke fun at and what to take seriously. This is evident in its equal-part satirical and serious exploration of the musical's many topics, including high school, cycles of abuse, bullying, violence, mental health, and suicide. Queen's Musical Theatre's “HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL” directed by Sarena Abramson, and produced by Nathan Zhe, will be running from April 10th – 17th, 2025 at Baby Grand Theatre, Kingston Grand Theatre. Enjoy the conversation!

Hey, folks! Today, we've got a treat for fans of cult musicals and sharp satire. We're celebrating the 25th anniversary of Reefer Madness: The Musical, a hilariously over-the-top sendup of the 1930s anti-marijuana propaganda film. The show first hit the stage in 1998, blending dark comedy, catchy songs, and biting social commentary, and it went on to inspire a star-studded 2005 film adaptation. Joining Les today are the brilliant minds behind it all—Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney. Kevin is a prolific writer and lyricist, known for his work on Desperate Housewives and Heathers: The Musical. Dan is an accomplished writer and composer, with credits that include Jack the Giant Slayer and a range of film and TV projects. Together, they crafted Reefer Madness into the cult sensation it is today, and now, they're back to talk about the newly released 25th anniversary cast recording. We're diving into the show's origins, its journey to cult status, and what makes this new recording special—so stick around!

Sydney Freihofer is an actress who has been cast in several different popular musical theatre productions. One of her first big shows a was a production of Heathers: The Musical. When she auditioned for the show, she had her heart set on one role that really stood out to her, but then feel in love with a different role that she ended up playing in the show. Luckily, her she was also able to understudy that first track she had her eyes on. Freihofer did a production of Sister Act: The Musical, and got to play Sister Mary Robert. She found it to be very rewarding to bring a movie to the stage. Additionally, Freihofer got the chance to be in Spring Awakening. Here, she really took the opportunity to re introduce the show to a new generation of audience members who may not have really known what the show was all about. Recently, Freihofer took on the role of Maureen Johnson in a regional production of Rent. Being in a show with such a powerful message has been a true highlight of her career this far. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jayme-starr/support

This week, Lizzie & Robb are discussing the 1989 dark comedy, Heathers starring Winona Ryder, Shannen Doherty & Christian Slater. They go through all the great scenes and lines but also discuss the very dark themes in this movie and they make a lot of comparisons to Heathers The Musical and Jawbreaker! There's also loads of trivia and behind-the-scenes facts for this one too, including which cast member was begged by their manager to not do this movie! Tiegan Denina is currently starring in the lead role of Veronica in the Sydney production of Heathers - The Musical.
Ever since our "Fun House" episode we discussed the possibility of doing a Heathers episode. 23 episodes later and at last we're checking out the off-Broadway adaptation of the 1989 movie of the same name. And for some gosh diddly darn reason, Diggie from "Liv and Maddie" is in it! And he's doing the gross sex stuff! And cursing! Is my childhood dying? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes again. Let's look at Heathers!
Joshua and Dan head back to high school to discuss the Off-Broadway teen cult classic Heathers the Musical. After watching the May 25th 2014 performance, much like the plot, chaos ensues as topics include responsible composing, an unexpected Tony winner, and how many lifeboats are needed to save us all in the wake of destruction? Grab your croquet mallet and prepare your most dangerous riff as the UCC proves they can be modern after all! Tune in to next week's episode when we discuss A New Brain; specifically, the Encores! production performance from June 24th, 2016! On this episode of THE RIVERDALE REGISTER, it's musical time! John and Kaitlin discuss the best and worst numbers from HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL, wonder what the hell Veronica is thinking, and rejoice at Chad Michael Murray's first appearance.
