In this week's episode of The Start-Up Diaries, we're joined by Chi-Chi Ekweozor, Founder of Assenty. After spotting an opportunity to provide a solution for a gap in the events market, Chi-Chi has developed a simple Q&A function device into an audience interaction and live virtual polling tool, proving that often the most straightforward ideas are the most effective. Chi-Chi talked us through how she has been able to make the most of the opportunities lockdown has thrown her way, and how Assenty has thrived during the Pandemic by keeping people connected. Chi-Chi is also the founder of #FemaleTechFounder, a series of events hosted in Manchester – and now virtually – that brings aspiring female founders and women in tech together to hear from successful founders within the tech space, passing on their challenges, highlights and biggest lessons. Chi-Chi is a strong advocate for encouraging more girls into Tech and discussed with us why she feels the investment sector can be seen as intimidating to many women, as well as why and how the lack of female representation in the tech community needs to be addressed at a grassroots level.

Listen for the story where God gave Ogo a vision to create (high quality) masks, before Covid-19 was ever a thought in the US. Go buy your HEPA99 face mask ( https://ogonewyork.com/collections/hepa-99-collection ) ! Law graduate Ogo Ekweozor-Holley stated OGONEWYORK ( https://ogonewyork.com ) after moving to New York City from the UK in 2010. She was born in Canada, lived her early years in Nigeria, her country of origin and grew up in the United Kingdom. She founded the label on the desire to serve the authentic modern woman. At the time of starting the label, her focus was to create beautiful pieces of art that fit every body type but after learning first hand the negative impact the industry is having on the environment, her mission evolved. ‘It's about creating beautiful pieces that are kind to the eco system. People , animals and the environment should not be sacrificed for style’ says Ogo Ekweozor-Holley Also the founder and consultant of Sales Driven Solutions ( http://salesdrivensolutions.com ) , Ogo's wisdom in operating and growing business' stems from an intimate relationship with Jesus and a love for excellence. I know from being around her in different seasons of my life that this woman truly hears from God and I was honored to get to speak on the current world issues and get her perspectives.

Chi-chi Ekweozor is a social media marketer turned front end developer and software engineer. She started Assenty in January 2016 after witnessing firsthand the difficulty in prioritising questions submitted when the audience was invited to send in questions for conference speakers via SMS. Assenty was designed to solve the problem of answering questions from an audience and a lot of thought, painstaking care and attention to detail to what event organisers want from a Q&A platform has been poured in to it. The platform has been used by a range of companies including PwC and BusinessCloud Magazine. Chi-Chi talks with Trish about her startup journey so far, the challenge of raising funding and shares the advice she has learned along the way. Key takeaways: - Really think about whether you need a co-founder. Do as much as you can manage on your own before making that step. - Don't forget how far you've come. Take time to reflect on your business journey. - Be careful about setting artificial deadlines and putting yourself under undue pressure. - Be open minded to change.
