Abraham understood that God had a greater plan for his life, so he learned to shift his focus from the world he could see to the world that was still to come. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef turns to Hebrews 11 and the faith of Abraham and the other Old Testament saints. They lived as foreigners and strangers on earth, trusting promises they could only see from a distance because they were “longing for a better country—a heavenly one.” For believers in Jesus Christ, that same eternal perspective changes everything. At the end of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount we are given a choice: which path will you take, which voice will you listen to, which builder will you be, and will claim the name only or do the will. Jesus lays the choice at our feet. Do you want to continue living according to the wisdom of this world, or will you follow me?

In this sermon from Exodus 25, Pastor Jared Richard takes the church on a guided tour through the tabernacle, unpacking one of the most important visual aids in all of Scripture. From the outer courtyard's bronze altar and basin, through the holy place with its lampstand, table of bread, and altar of incense, all the way to the ark of the covenant resting in the holy of holies, every element was deliberately designed by God to communicate something true about Himself — His majesty, His heart, and His holiness. Just as God enriched Israel with Egypt's plunder to build this dwelling place, every piece of that tent was a declaration that the God who brought them out of bondage still desired to be in their midst. Yet the tabernacle also holds a deep tension at its center: God draws near to His people, but His people can only come so close. The veils, the restrictions, the cherubim guarding the inner room — all of it echoed back to the Garden of Eden, where sin first separated humanity from God's presence. Even the holiest of priests had to be ritually cleansed, and even then, the glory of God remained veiled and partial. The sacrifices offered on the bronze altar could allow for God's presence among His people, but they could not fully erase the distance that sin had created. The resolution to this tension, Pastor Jared makes clear, is Jesus Christ — the true and better tabernacle. As John 1:14 declares, "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us" — and that word dwelt literally means tabernacled. Jesus is God's glory walking the dusty roads of Galilee without a veil, welcoming children into His arms, and ultimately tearing the temple curtain at the moment of His death (Matt. 27:51) so that all who repent and believe can finally draw near to the Father. And because of His finished work, the Spirit of God now lives in His people (1 Cor. 6:19), making the church itself the living tabernacle — called to display God's majesty, heart, and holiness to a watching world. I live in the Ashram, heaven on earth. I felt this way when living with my Baba. His India Ashram was heavenly. At 3 am, I walked by night-blooming jasmine to get to the meditation hall, along pathways with sacred statues in every corner. Yet it was his presence that made it heavenly. We sat with him as he moved his amber mala, doing japa for all of us.  My mind flowed with mantra-virya, the mantric energy he emanated. As disciples, what direction are we to follow? How does Jesus, once again, flip the script on the misconstrued ideals for living our lives?

Today we are going to begin at the beginning. Because Jesus begins his sermon in a memorable way. He begins by describing what a disciple of the Kingdom looks like, kind of a list of the kind of people who can see the Kingdom most clearly. Jesus presents a list of different people who are blessed, happy, fortunate, because they can see the kingdom most clearly. That list of blessed people has come to be known as the beatitudes.

God loves the human race. But just as importantly, He loves all of us individually. In this beautiful feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we focus on the immeasurable love of Our Lord. We pierce His heart through our sins. Yet never does God waver from His love for us. He does not withdraw from us. Our Lord continues to pour out our love so that we may never lose what He has planned for the human race, namely heaven.

It is time this very minute to pray and seek God. Time to set our timers and pray for the minute. In this episode, I'm joined by Fr. John Whiteford to explore one of the most misunderstood books in all of Scripture: the Book of Revelation.  For many modern Christians, Revelation is treated as a roadmap of future geopolitical events—something to decode through headlines, wars, and speculation. But in the Orthodox Christian tradition, Revelation is something far deeper: a vision of heavenly worship. We begin by breaking down the true meaning of the Divine Liturgy—not as a symbolic gathering or a teaching session, but as real participation in the worship of heaven itself. From there, Fr. John explains how the imagery of Revelation—altars, incense, angels, hymns, and the Lamb—directly corresponds to what the Church has preserved in her liturgical life for centuries. This conversation reframes Revelation entirely: not as a prediction chart, but as an unveiling of the eternal reality that the Church enters into every time the Liturgy is celebrated. We also address how modern misreadings of Revelation—especially those rooted in recent theological innovations—have led many Christians to interpret global events, particularly in relation to Israel, through a distorted and often dangerous lens. Ultimately, this episode is about recovering a right understanding of worship, Scripture, and the Kingdom of God—and seeing the Divine Liturgy for what it truly is: heaven on earth. Fr. John Whiteford is an Orthodox priest serving in the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR). He is the rector of St. Jonah Orthodox Church in Spring, Texas, and has been a longtime teacher, writer, and defender of the Orthodox Christian faith. He is widely known for his work in apologetics, particularly in explaining Orthodox theology in contrast to modern Protestant innovations. Fr. John has written extensively on Scripture, Church history, and liturgical theology, and is especially respected for his clear, direct approach to difficult theological topics.
