As long-time followers of our show are aware, The Wolf and Action Jackson are HUGE Led Zeppelin fans. When it was announced several years back that there would be a Led Zep documentary coming, we were psyched and knew that we'd not only have to go see it on the big screen but do a review on UAWIL. However, we we didn't know that director Bernard MacMahon had not only unearthed and cleaned up video of a performance by the band in Bath from 1969, but he also uncovered a never-before-heard audio interview of John Bonham. Thanks to that interview, he was able to get reflections from all four members of Led Zeppelin on their journey to becoming the biggest band in the world. Instead of being a complete career retrospective, this film focused on the back stories of each member - how they grew up, when they became fascinated with rock music, which artists turned them on and how they found their way into the music business. Most fans know that Jimmy Page was on tv with his skiffle group as a kid before becoming a premier session guitarist in London. But did you know that John Paul Jones learned so much from his father, pianist John Baldwin, and was a choirmaster at age 14? Did you know Robert Plant would try many different types of groups, hairstyles and scenes before he ever became a Golden God? Learning how Jimmy Page put the first record together so he would have leverage with record companies to not only get better royalties but to not be forced into releasing singles is just one amazing insight into how Led Zeppelin became the juggernaut, especially in the US, that would define their legacy. Action went to great lengths to see this movie and offer his perspective so give us a listen and see this film in the theaters while you can - the video and sound is amazing!! In this New Music Friday episode, we speak with the members of the great up and coming teen blues/rock band from Wisconsin, Candy Cigarette. Formed right before the pandemic, the band has released some blistering original songs including their latest single Revolution.
The 70s were dominated by massive rock n roll acts and none were perhaps bigger than Led Zeppelin. Born from the ashes of The Yardbirds they took the world by storm with their first five albums, but when it came time for their sixth it would be an ambitious undertaking that would become a double length album in what many Led Zep fans would call their best works. But is it really? Tune in to this special episode of Retro Review as I discuss facts about the album and songs as well as give my review on the album.
In this episode Jason returns to the podcast as we discuss Becoming Led Zeppelin. BLZ is currently showing in theaters for a limited time. We give thoughts on the documentary, interesting details we learned about Zep's history, The Yardbirds, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Bonham, and the multi faceted John Paul Jones, seeing Page/Plant live in 1995, Peter Grant, the band's unending importance, and many other stories of Led Zep fandom. Thanks for listening, and please share! This episode is brought to you by DEB Concerts. Follow DEB on Facebook and Twitter to get updates on upcoming shows including Rocklahoma performances from Dee Snider, Orianthi, Mike Tramp and more! This episode is also brought to you by Sunset Tattoo Tulsa. Sunset Tattoo has over 25 years of experience, and is located at 3146 E. 15th St. in Tulsa, OK. In this episode we're joined by music-biz legend Danny Goldberg to discuss his dealings with Led Zeppelin and Kurt Cobain — and the school days he spent with the great Gil Scott-Heron. Danny takes us back to his short-lived stint at Berkeley and his first port of call on returning to his native New York: clerking at trade bible Billboard, a job that led to the publication of his report on 1969's Woodstock festival. From there we jump to the three years our guest spent working for Led Zep — first as their press agent, then as V-P of their label Swan Song. We revisit the band's conquest and domination of '70s America and hear hair-raising tales of Page, Plant, Bonzo, Peter Grant and Richard Cole... as well as Danny's 1976 exit from the band's dark vortex. The story of how Nirvana came to be managed by Danny's company Gold Mountain prompts thoughts on Kurt Cobain and mention of the 2019 memoir (Serving the Servant) our guest wrote about him. Danny brings his management and record-label story up to date by previewing the new album by his clients the Waterboys. The week's new audio interview takes us back to the '60s and to Danny's reminiscences of the young Gil Scott-Heron, who can be heard talking in 1978 to Mark "Radio Pete" Bliesener. The second of two clips — about Richard Nixon — brings us to the shocking present moment of Donald Trump's and Elon Musk's unprecedented assault on American democracy. After a tribute to the departed Marianne Faithfull — heard talking about the brilliant Broken English album in a short audio clip from 2014 — Jasper quotes from a 2023 Simon Reynolds article about A.I. and music journalism. Pieces discussed: Woodstock: Peace Mecca, Led Zeppelin: Under The Hood – A Backstage Chronicle of the Historic 1975 Tour, Led Zeppelin: Danny Goldberg's Hideaway, Danny Goldberg: Serving the Servant – Remembering Kurt Cobain (Ecco), Gil Scott-Heron audio (1978), Growing Up With Gil Scott-Heron: In Loving Memory, Marianne Faithfull audio (2014) and I'm a Noted Music Critic. Can A.I. Do My Job?.
In this New Music Friday episode, we talk to Mike Clarke and John Chominsky from the Los Angeles band, Final Gravity. We discuss their great hook filled heavy rock and their latest EP, Stormchaser.
Topics discussed on today's show: National Ding-A-Ling Day, Ginger Bread House, Who's Going To Hell?, Pornhub Searches, 1 in 5 Herpes, Heidi's Sensory Deprivation, Birthdays, History Quiz, Upcoming Tours, Spending on Christmas, Blowing To Hard, Tokyo Women, 20 in 24, Collectors, 50's Led Zep, Stay Or Go: Next Door To Heaven, New Music Friday, and Apologies.

Hello friends and welcome to another edition of Trve. Crvp. Pop!, where we try our very best to find the very worst album ever created in musical history. On this weeks episode we look at the 8th studio album from UK new wave legends Duran Duran, Thank You, released on the 27th of March 1995. Duran Duran were obviously massive in the 80's, but in the 90's it was far harder for the huge pop bands of that decade to succeed amongst a radically changing landscape. Duran Duran actually did manage it for a while though, their 1993 self-titled album (known as The Wedding Album) and it's lead single Ordinary World was a surprise smash. You'd think that all you'd need to do was make another one of them and you'd have yourself established as a proper 90's band... or you could do what Duran Duran did and make an album of covers. Covering the biggest artists of all time, from Bob Dylan to Public Enemy, Iggy Pop to The Temptations, Lou Reed to Led Zep, Elvis Costello to The Doors. Bold strategy, it killed their career for a while. But is it actually any good?

I speak again with James Cook of Led Zeppelin News about the 1970 filmed concerts, Jimmy's poppy/dragon suits, taxes, shadiness and journalism in the Zep community. Good stuff. James is wonderful and insightful, as always.
In this episode, we take a look at the various attempts at a Led Zeppelin reunion, beginning with their appearance at 1985's Live Aid concert, and culminating in the 2007 concert that would comprise 2012's Celebration Day video and album. Led Zeppelin had a considerable legacy to live up to and we go in depth, discussing the ups, downs, and what worked and what didn't work. But it has a happy ending of sorts with the 2007 concert, which solidified Led Zep's reputation as one of the greatest live acts of all time.Hosted by Chris Karam and Brad Page.
After the demise of Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant almost called it quits as a performer. It was actually Phil Collins, who knew something about going solo after being part of a big rock band, who encouraged him and actually played drums on his first album. Robert didn't want to go back to the big machine that was Zeppelin, but he did want to write songs, collaborate with musicians and play live. However, he didn't want to tour until he had enough material to do a headline show without dipping into the Led Zep catalog. So it wasn't until his second solo record, The Principle of Moments released July 11, 1983, that he had the solo catalog that would allow him to take his new songs and band out tour. Though his first album, Picture at 11 (which we reviewed on UAWIL #105), had singles and MTV videos, they didn't capture the public's imagination. But thanks to a concept video by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis fame, Big Log was a hit and showed the world that Robert was capable of more than just screeching along to Jimmy Page's insane guitar riffs. In The Mood also hit the charts and allowed Robert to show more of his vocal talents. The videos are a bit odd but that was early MTV and we go track x track, video x video and recall fond memories of this album from the early 80s. In this episode, we take a look at the 1982 album Coda, which would serve as a postscript to the legendary catalogue of Led Zeppelin. This album features unreleased studio (and as it turns out, live) tracks spanning the band's entire career.Although it was put together to fulfill a contractual obligation, this album has some gems on it and if you were there in '82 like we were, you were glad to have some new Led Zep music to listen to and enjoy. As always, we delve into the album track by track and share our thoughts on each and every song.Hosted by Chris Karam and Brad Page

Why does music make us feel such emotion? Joanna Lumley and her husband Stephen Barlow invite you into their music room to discuss the big questions of life, music and marriage. In this first episode we take a tour through the music which shaped their childhoods in England and South-East Asia. For Stephen, this meant falling in love with Wagner's ‘Das Rheingold' and rocking out to Led Zep. For Joanna, it meant pastoral symphonies on the wind up gramophone in the jungles of Malaya.
In this episode, we delve into the origins of Led Zeppelin's final studio album, In Through The Out Door. From the ill-fated 1977 tour to the "satanic" origins of some of the music, we leave no stone unturned as we go track by track through Led Zep's final studio sessions. And we'll explore such mysteries as who REALLY produced this album, which member of Led Zeppelin got a brand spankin' new keyboard that played a large role in the composing of these songs, and the role that the group ABBA played behind the scenes!Your hosts (who came in through in "In" door) are Chris Karam and Brad Page
We talk to Led Zeppelin News' James Cook on his ten years of running Led Zep News, and how he gets his info, his brilliant research methods, and how Zeppelin helped him find a job in journalism. This was an absolute joy for me and hope you all enjoy it.
In this episode, we take on Led Zeppelin's feature film and live album The Song Remains The Same. What started out as an attempt to document Led Zep's concerts at Madison Square Garden in 1973 became a film that featured fantasy sequences, backstage drama, and yes, the songs and music that propelled Led Zeppelin to become one of the biggest bands of all-time.And while Zeppelin manager Peter Grant said "It was the most expensive home movie ever made," it's a time capsule that could only have been made in the 1970s. We talked through all the scenes and all the songs -- It was a Whole Lotta Fun.Hosted by Chris Karam and Brad Page(NOTE: This conversation originally appeared in 2021 on an episode of Mr. K's Super Show)

Though Ron “Pigpen” McKernan continued to feel like he was being pushed out of the Grateful Dead's creative circle, he could still make an impression. Just ask Led Zeppelin, who got an up-close and personal look at Pig's .22-caliber pistol. The fear that they felt standing next to what seemed like, to them, to be an American cowboy in the flesh was dwarfed months later…by the fear and violence that ran rampant at the Altamont Speedway.
