In this episode, hosts Alan and Walt chat with photographer and podcaster, Curtis Bloes about his career and hobby. Although stumbling across photography by accident, Curtis admits, he didn't really have a knack for it. The work was difficult, but he loves what he does. He has learned from others along the way. Though specializing in boudoir sessions, Curtis does other photography as well. He is also quick to help others who are wanting to learn. As a side hobby, Curtis Bloes has always seemed ready for the world of podcasting. He takes us through his earliest versions, putting out shows on cassette before burning CDs and now online. Curtis is also a part of the Movies-by-Minutes podcasters, who love to break down a movie, one minute of the film at a time. He has worked on many shows and is currently working on The Time Bandit Minute for a 2022 release. As the interview winds down, we move to the movie our Listeners Group on Facebook chose for Walt to review. In yet another new low, even Walt was in the depths of despair over this week's selection. Then they discussed a few crazy news items before wrapping up with the entertainment segment. WATCHING Walt just finished watching WandaVision and loved it. He is currently watching The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and is thus far enjoying it as well. He also mentions Saving Private Ryan is on Netflix to watch. Curtis watched episodes of ABCD:TOS podcast, where a group of sci-fi aficionados is breaking down classic Trek episodes in alphabetical order. Not meaning to be ironic, he also watched the 80's flick, The Falcon and the Snowman and says it still holds up to this day. Finally, he wrapped up watching, Twin Peaks: The Return. Alan is onto season 2 of Star Trek: TOS. He also is watching the Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. READING Walt is continuing to work his way through, "Running with the Devil," a book he will likely never finish due to his ADD tendencies. Alan, researching material for a different podcast, digested, "10 Tips for Dealing with In-Laws." Curtis recommends, "Bone China Mausoleum," by Ann O'Dell. He also likes the series of books called, "B&G Detective Agency," by R.L. Link. Finally, he is readying Ernest Clines, "Ready Player Two." LISTENING Walt suggests Office Space Minute and Radio Labyrinth podcasts. Curtis suggests This Means Something podcast about the film Close Encounters of the Third Kind. He also likes TWIV (This Week in Virology) podcast. And, for a change of pace from streaming non-stop Slayer tunes, Curtis has moved toward chill 90's alternative. He said his wife is very happy for the change. Alan said that thanks to the YouTube channels, The Daily Doug and The Charismatic Voice, he has discovered the symphonic metal band, Nightwish. He loves them and has been streaming their discography over the last week. By the way, the Daily Doug is hosted by Doug Helvering, who will be a guest in the Listeners Lounge soon. And, The Charismatic voice is hosted by Elizabeth Zharoff. Alan has reached out to her as well, but nothing has been confirmed.
Troldspejlets redaktion taler om den nye Marvel-serie WandaVision på Disney+, spillet Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Ernest Clines nye bog Ready Player Two, Netflix-serien Fate: The Winx Saga, webtegneserien Betsy and the Mutant Scouts og Robert Rodriguez' film We Can Be Heroes på Netflix.
The great and powerful Spielberg is back with another blockbuster. Taking a play outta Zemeckis's book with the Who Framed Roger Rabbit of video game movies. Does the film compare to the greatness of Ernest Clines novel? Press Start and listen in to find out. MILD SPOILERS.
Editors note The following review contains many spoilers about the content of the film. The podcast conversation also touches on subject matter not covered in the written review. Ernest Clines 2011 science fiction novel Ready Player One tells the story of a dystopian society in the near future where people spend most of their waking hours inside a virtual reality simulation called the OASIS where they can live out any fantasy they can imagine. After the creator of the OASIS James Halliday, played by Mark Rylance dies, it is revealed that he has embedded a series of video game like puzzles within the OASIS. The first person to solve the puzzles will inherit Hallidays stock and become an instant billionaire. The trick is that the solution to the puzzles require exhaustive knowledge of 1980s nerd culture. Some of the themes discussed in this podcast episode are virtual reality, video gaming, technology, religion in a technology centered dystopian future, the themes of Spielberg films, and how to use this film as an apologetics tool. This Postmodern Realities episode is a conversation with JOURNAL author John McAteer about his equip.org film review called Spielbergs Nostalgia for Reality in Ready Player One
Ernest Clines' best-selling novel is now a film directed by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by Zac Penn. James, Skid, and Andy read the book and watched the movie. In this episode, they discuss the following questions: A common criticism of both the book and the film is that they are more a haphazard collection of nostalgic references than a coherent story. Is this fair or no? Many substantive changes were made from Ernest Cline's book. Why do we think these were done, and were they effective? What place do we think the film will ultimately have in Spielberg's legacy? Please leave us a review and subscribe to the podcast! "Den om 80'erne". Ikke "Den om 80'er-film". Vigtig detalje, fordi...
Versprochen.
