Fabian is a comic book writer and editor who is best known as the co-creator of Marvel's Deadpool and for his work on titles such as X-Men, X-Force, New Warriors, Cable, and Thunderbolts. He is the author of Suburban Dicks, a finalist for the Edgar Award for Best First Novel by an American Author. He recently joined me to talk about his latest novel, The Self Made Widow, which has been called a diabolically funny murder mystery featuring two unlikely sleuths investigating a murder that reveals the dark underbelly of suburban marriage. How did he learn English after immigrating to the United States? What role did comic books play in his early life? What was it like going from the business side of the comic book business to the creative side? Listen in to hear the answers to these questions and learn why Fabian has a beef with the band Styx. JUDGEMENT DAY IS NIGH! Scott, Michelle, Namor, and Dayspring assemble to discuss Ms. Marvel's explosive ending, that ending of the Hellfire Gala, and Eve of Judgement! Lines are drawn as we gear up for A.X.E!
Marvel's finally decided to release the next volume of the Reign of X Anthologies! Darn those supply-chain issues, that DC Comics and all the indies have somehow been able to sidestep! Anyway, we're back -- and we're just in time for the Hellfire Gala! Oh, you didn't know? There's going to be a Gala! If only these books would bother to mention it! Since Marvel trade paperbacks are suffering the affects of shrinkflation (which we're surely only imagining), we only get the first five issues of the event here. Looks like the Gala will be eating up the next two collected editions as well! It's over four hours of fun, frivolity... Shawn and Fabian chat about writing across mediums, anger & insecurity as motivating factors in careers, writing for yourself, doing your own thing, and the coffee habits of exhausted suburbanites. About the Author: Fabian Nicieza is best known as a comic book writer for Marvel and DC, and as the co-creator of Deadpool. He has also written X-Men, X-Force, New Warriors, Cable, Thunderbolts, and many more. He developed the story world and created the characters for the 2021 animated series, Stan Lee's Superhero Kindergarten. Suburban Dicks, Nicieza's debut novel, was published by Penguin Putnam in 2021. About the Book: After mother of five and former FBI profiler Andie Stern solved a murder—and unraveled a decades old conspiracy—in her New Jersey town, both her husband and the West Windsor police hoped that she would set aside crime-fighting and go back to carpools, changing diapers, and lunches with her group of mom-friends, who she secretly calls The Cellulitists. Even so, Andie can't help but get involved when the husband of Queen Bee Molly Goode is found dead. Though all signs point to natural causes, Andie begins to dig into the case and soon risks more than just the clique's wrath, because what she discovers might hit shockingly close to home. Meanwhile, journalist Kenny Lee is enjoying a rehabilitated image after his success as Andie's sidekick. But when an anonymous phone call tips him off that Molly Goode killed her husband, he's soon drawn back into the thicket of suburban scandals, uncovering secrets, affairs, and a huge sum of money. Hellbent on justice and hoping not to kill each other in the process, Andie and Kenny dust off their suburban sleuthing caps once again.
