Alexander Payne's filmography contains some of the most bitter and hilarious films of the past twenty years, from Laura Dern's caustic abortion comedy Citizen Ruth to the movie that Thron calls the unofficial sequel to Ferris Beuler's Day Off: the merciless Reese Witherspoon showcase Election. But today we take a look at his softer side, with a double feature of Bruce Dern in Nebraska and George Clooney in The Descendants! Each was made to be much more audience friendly than his usual fair - but does MG think they are Oscar-worthy or Oscar-bait?

With that joy ride the president pulled in his SUV, one wonders if he forgot to wash his hands, demonstrated with the apple watch using Voiceover in this episode, and whether he thought he could pull a Ferris Beuler on all of us. We have been fooled.

Book Vs. Movie (Replay) The Stephen King Bonus Ep With Special Guest Adam Riske (F This Movie) Two podcasting, movie geeks talk about two classic Stephen King stories “Sleepwalkers” & “Sometimes They Come Back” In this special “Stephen King” ep, Margo D. and Adam Riske who is a contributor to the excellent movie podcast F This Movie, get together to talk about two rather weird Stephen King productions that they both love for nostalgic reasons. Then we wander off into some unexpected pop-culture tangents-- but let's get into the movies first. Adam begins with 1992’s Sleepwalkers which stars Brian Krause, Madchen Amick, and Alice Krige. King penned the screenplay based on an unpublished story and it is directed by his pal Mick Garris who also helmed King's The Stand and the updated The Shining. What is this movie about? Well, it has a mother and son who are not only creepy supernatural creatures who feed on virgins and then skip town. They are also involved with each other romantically!  Amick plays his love interest and her parents are played by Cindy Pickett and Lyman Ward who played “Ferris Beuler’s” parents (they have since divorced.) There are all kinds of strangeness with this movie including the herding of cats, a graveyard picnic date scene and an appearance by Mark Hamill! It’s pretty fantastic. Margo D. chose Sometimes They Come Back which was first featured in King’s collection of short stories Night Shift. The 1991 CBS-TV movie starred Tim Matheson, Brooke Adams and Nicholas Sadler (whom Adam and Margo recall from his famous appearance in a 1990 episode of The Cosby Show.) Matheson plays Jim Norman, a school teacher who lost his brother to a tragic gang attack and now must face his past as they all somehow show up in his life to raise hell once again. The original in printed form scared the bejeebus out of a young Margo. The TV adaptation? Not so much but it makes for an amazing discussion with the following topics covered: HBO’s original sex comedy Dream On starring Brian Benben Chanteuse Jane Child and her amazing 90s hit Don’t Wanna Fall in Love Our differing opinions on the upcoming Pet Semetary remake. (Adam is not sure about that one) Hope you enjoy this different take on our usual Stephen King bonus eps. (Margo breaks out into several giggle fits here.) You can listen to it using the link below. Our Last Challenge Our challenge last week was to make a choice. Either to take a Ferris Beuler’s Day Off OR to mediate each day of the week. While the challenge seemed easy, I didn’t get the thing done. I didn’t do the challenge. I was stressed and I just had a really lousy week… The post Episode 043: Give Away Some of Your Time appeared first on Do Weekly Podcast.

Welcome to another episode of Behind the Scenes with Eric Fell and Shaun Stewart! Today your compadres want to tell you about some of the new movies coming out this month. We take a look at the new Adam Sandler movie "Bedtime Stories", followed by a look at "The Tale of Despereaux" and "Hannah Montana: The Movie" Enjoy!First off we take a closer look at "Bedtime Stories", inculding an interview with Adam Sandler. Skeeter's(Adam Sandler) sister Wendy (Courtney Cox) has to leave town for a job interview and asks him to alternate looking after her two children Patrick (Jonathan Morgan Heit) and Bobbi (Laura Ann Kesling) with Wendy's responsible-minded colleague Jill (Keri Russell). He doesn't get along with either Jill or the children, but his easy-goingness loosens them all up and once he starts telling his bedtime stories, the children grow fond of him and begin to bring in their ideas about how the stories should go. When the stories turn out to become true in real life, Skeeter tries to manoeuver the stories into a direction which will make his dream come true, too.Next lets check up on "The Tale of Despereaux" along with an interview with Mathew Broderick. Tiny and graced with oversized ears, Despereaux was born too big for his little world. Refusing to live his life cowering, he befriends a Princess named Pea and learns to read (rather than eat) books -- reveling in stories of knights, dragons and fair maidens. Banished from Mouseworld for being more man than mouse, Despereaux is rescued by another outcast, Roscuro, who also wants to hear the tales. But when the Princess dismisses Roscuro's friendship, he becomes the ultimate rat and plots revenge with fellow outsider Mig. After Pea is kidnapped, Despereaux discovers he is the only one who can rescue her...and that even the tiniest mouse can find the courage of a knight in shining armor. Finally we check out Miley Cyrus in her new movie, "Hannah Montana: The Movie". Not much else really needs to be said. Hannah goes to farm, Hannah meets cowboy, cowboy likes Miley, Miley is Hannah, cowboy doesnt know, cowboy finds out, Miley dates cowboy, movie ends.... or (As Hannah Montana's popularity begins to take over her life, Miley Stewart, on the urging from her father takes a trip to her hometown of Crowley Corners, Tennessee to get some perspective on what matters in life the most.)
