On this week's Richard Crouse Show we meet Billboard's Top New Country Artist of 2021, and CMT's 2022 “Breakout Artist of the Year” Lainey Wilson. Her highly anticipated album “Bell Bottom Country” is out now and she recently announced a 27-city headlining tour, that will visit Vancouver and Edmonton next year. “Bell Bottom Country” draws its title directly from the name people use to describe the Louisiana native's unique sound, style, and aesthetic — it's Country, but with flare, mixing in elements of ‘70s Rock, Funk, and Soul. We talk about her new record, what influence Hannah Montana had on her career… it's not what you might think, and why she only wears bell bottom pants. We'll also meet Fab Filippo, co-creator, executive producer, co-showrunner on the CBC original series “Sort Of.” We'll talk about the hit show and how the stories in “Sort Of” resonate across all genders, races, and ages – they are universal no matter how one identifies. Then, we'll meet Barry Avrich, director of “The Talented Mr. Rosenberg,” a new documentary about a lifelong con artist with a stunning history of heartbreaking betrayal, outrageous lies and elaborate masquerades.
TW: This episode discusses sexual assault and rape, please take care whilst listening. Today's guest is an actor, author, comedian and self-professed celebrity in North-West London. She grew up in the world of privilege and politics as the daughter of labour politician Alastair Campbell who has attended Hannah Montana concerts with Boris Johnson AND went to school with international pop sensation Dua Lipa. Her book, AMAZING DISGRACE, was described by Katherine Ryan as 'An outpouring of truth, wit, and beautiful comedic wisdom' and Scarlett Curtis as 'Bold, vulnerable and hilarious.' The front cover, which shows Grace riding a dick-shaped, should say everything you need to know about what's in store. On 6th August, during of her stint at the Edinburgh Fringe festival, she published an article in the Guardian, discussing a sexual assuault that had happened whilst in the US the previous year. The article spoke sensitively about assault, the topic of consent and a failing judicial system that cannot protect victims of rape (most notably women). The piece immediately garnered an outpouring of praise and if you haven't read it already, I urge you to pause this podcast and read it immediately. It is this vulnerable honesty surrounding not just the topic of intimacy, but destigmatising shame around sex, mental health, and the female body - that has made her so beloved amongst her fans. She is a loud, unapologetic “sex positive” , shame embracing comedian who hosts her own comedy night “the disgraceful club” and is taking her critically acclaimed show “A Show About Me(n)” on tour around the UK next year. Said about herself - “GRACE CAMPBELL IS THE FUNNIEST PERSON SHE HAS EVER MET. IF SHE WASN'T HER, SHE WOULD WANT TO BE HER. ” She's an utter disgrace that all women love and tory men are afraid of, healing the nation, one fanny fart at a time. Grace Campbell, it is a HUGEE pleasure to welcome you on to the podcast! ***Today's episode is in partnership with Deshall Beauty.*** Early listeners will know that the first EVER episode of this podcast was with my amazingly talented good friend Tanyia Ahmed, Founder of Deshall. Hannah Montana is going to have a step mother! Billy Ray Cyrus is engaged to his girlfriend, 34 year old Australian singer Firerrose. Who is Billy Ray's daughter that played Hannah?
Actor and musician Mitchel Musso (@mitchelmusso) joins Justin on the podcast this week with his NEW MUSIC after taking some time away from the big screen. The Hannah Montana star opens up candidly about how he purposely “chose himself first” in order to bring the best version of himself to everyone in his life. It's no secret that all of us have thought about how loving ourselves will in turn nurture the other areas of our life, well, we're in luck on this episode because Mitchel is a walking example of how it really does work! Mitchel has returned to the spotlight with new original music inspired by his experiences with love, heartbreak, emotional ups and downs, and life accomplishments. Most recently, he released the first single “Drank” off his upcoming Mixtape “Ghost”. Mitchel starred in three successful Disney projects, “Hannah Montana,” “Pair of Kings,” and “Phineas and Ferb,” as well as Columbia Pictures' “Monster House.” Mitchel began his music career at a young age, releasing his first album through Walt Disney Records, but didn't find his true passion and sound until he stripped the "work" away from the music, and began making music stemming from his life's inspirations. We are beyond excited to welcome our World Famous Celebrity Guest Justin Johnson who is best known by his stage name Alyssa Edwards. Justin is not only a friend but family, who we love dearly and are so happy to have him on the show to celebrate our 300th episode. We talk about his dance studio Beyond Belief Dance Company in Mesquite, TX where he is celebrating 20 years of being the Steven Spielberg of dance. He is creating powerful stories through his dances and his life is fulfilled when he watches his dancers perform on stage. He thanks his Earth Angel Michelle Sherrard who helped him get started with the studio. We get to know how Justin grew up in Mesquite with his 4 sisters, Mom, very strong Dad and his granny. Justin was a natural born leader but wanted nothing to do with football or baseball, whichwas very disappointing to his father. Justin believes that dance saved his life. When he was young he was too shy to talk to people but expressed himself through dance. Justin makes a passionate appeal that in our world today gay people shouldn't have to "COME OUT" anymore. Back when he did he had the full support of his granny who told him that when she looked into his eyes when he was born she would love him for the rest of her life and love who he loves. Justin does say that watching Philadelphia with Tom Hanks traumatized him at the time. For years he was the real life Hannah Montana of Mesquite because he didn't want anyone to know that he started doing drag, because he was afraid of being judged. We get to know all about how he got started in drag and how he was crowned Miss Texas, Miss USA and Miss America and Miss All American Goddess. He was the Vanessa Williams of drag after getting dethroned. The world famous Shangela was back up dancing for him at the time. He talks about how the "Rose Room" at the S4 club in Dallas was like a wonderland to him and that room changed his life. We find out how he chose Alyssa Edwards to be his stage name. We learn about the coolest surprise that MTV did for him later on in his career. We end part 1 with talking about Rodney Johnson from Rodney's Dancing Zone which was a shock for all of us.......Stay tuned to part 2 where we talk about Justin being on Ru Paul's Drag Race and much more.....You do not want to miss it. ......

This week, the randomizer goes all the way back to 2008 to pick an episode of Disney Channel's smash hit sitcom that launched the massively successful pop music career of Miley Cyrus. But before she was swinging around naked on wrecking balls, she was stuck in the world's worst love triangle with the guy from High School Musical (no, not him, the other guy) and a small child who the writers decided needed to be unspeakably horny, because 2008 was a very different time when that idea was considered humorous for some appalling reason. No wonder she ended up swinging around naked on wrecking balls. This week's Nose will not sit here and suffer crows that come to feast on their corpses. Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon is the second show in the Game of Thrones franchise and a prequel to the original series. It is based on parts of George R. R. Martin's Fire & Blood, and it starts about 200 years before the events of the original series. Its first episode was the most-watched series premiere in the history of HBO, according to HBO. House of the Dragon has been renewed for a second season. And: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is the first television series in the Lord of the Ringsfranchise. It is a prequel to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings set thousands of years before them, during the Second Age of Middle-Earth. The Rings of Power is based mostly on the appendices of The Lord of the Rings. Amazon has made a five-season production commitment worth at least $1 billion. This would make it the most expensive television series ever made. She shares stories about being on the X-Factor and how she stayed grounded despite being launched into fame through "The Goldbergs." She details how she got into flipping houses and what it's like to produce her own music independently. Hayley is talented, joyful, and true to herself. It was such a pleasure connecting as "older sisters" and now as friends. You can follow Hayley @hayleyorrantia on TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter. Music critic Shaad D'Souza joins DJ Louie to talk about one of modern pop's most captivating, divisive and perplexing figures, Miley Cyrus. Louie and Shaad open with a break down of Miley's emergence on the smash Disney show, Hannah Montana, how the character's own double life as a pop star and a “normal girl” mirrored Miley's own, and the chaste image and anodyne pop-rock empowerment anthems on which Miley-as-Hannah made her name and, later in career, had to torch. They next dive into Miley's various, often bold but almost always awkward attempts to break out of the Hannah Montana box, first with her calculated pivot towards sexed-up dance pop on 2010's nonstarter Can't Be Tamed and much more effectively on 2013's Bangerz, a fascinating, garish record that repositioned the former Disney kid as a freewheeling, hip hop-obsessed party monster, a brazen and un-self-aware culture vulture and, for the first and perhaps only time in her a career, a trendsetting pop star. Louie and Shaad debate the record's prescient centering of trap in mainstream pop, as well its table-setting fusion of rap and country, how we view Miley's egregious cultural appropriation through a contemporary lens, and whether the album's whirlwind of controversy obscured some of the record's delicate, honest songwriting and virtuoso vocal performances. Later, they discuss how Miley squandered a lot of remaining good will with her next two projects, 2015's utterly bizarre Wayne Coyne-collabo Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz and 2017's middle-of-the-road country-pop-leaning Younger Now, and if Miley has effectively repositioned herself in recent years with a series of well-received live performances and covers and a turn towards rock homage on her 2020 album Plastic Hearts. Finally, Louie and Shaad rank Miley Cyrus in the official Pop Pantheon. Beach Bunny - “Entropy” from the 2022 album Emotional Creature on Mom + Pop. From TikTok buzzband to their sophomore album Emotional Creature, Chicago-based band Beach Bunny have earned a devoted following, including producer Butch Vig and actor Bob Odenkirk, who even appears in one of their music videos. A huge part of their appeal is the confessional and, ultimately, relatable lyrics from frontwoman Lili Trifilio. On today's Song of the Day, she tells Stereogum, she took inspiration from the Jonas Brothers for this infectious, polished pop song. Reflecting on her journey as a musician, she continues, "As a young kid I was watching Hannah Montana thinking that was the most unrealistic expectation of all time. But now here I am and all of it happened organically; it just goes very slowly over many, many years. If you want to do something in a creative field, make it a passion project and try it for a few years. You'll learn what you want to do, or you'll get to go on a journey. Embark on your journeys! Don't settle! I mean it! Oh, and don't date toxic boys. Or I guess, if you do, at least you'll have songs to write about them." It stands to reason — the longer you stay in the game of writing and performing music, the older your audience gets. But Kay Hanley's audience has only gotten younger. She went from pumping out the catchiest Cheap Trick influenced alterna-pop for the alterna-kids of the ‘90s in her band Letters To Cleo — to entertaining the kids of THOSE kids writing songs for shows such as “Doc McStuffins” and “DC Superhero Girls”. Along the way, she's managed to maintain a stellar solo career — and the debut entry in that career (“Cherry Marmalade”) just happens to turn 20 this year. So she's doing what we all do: Putting that shit out on vinyl and hitting the road. We've known Kay for a long time and there's nobody cooler. On this episode we forget to talk about Josie And The Pussycats, Hannah Montana, and Adam Scott — but we REMEMBER to talk about “10 Things I Hate About You”, Heath Ledger, Mike Denneen, her work with the Songwriters of North America (a foundation she co-founded, by the way), baseball, covering each other's songs, football, “Jesus Christ Superstar”, growing up across the street from the Wahlbergs, “Melrose Place”, Barry Manilow, and REAL football! We also put Kay's Rain Man-like ability for remembering lyrics to the Elvis Costello test.
You probably know Shannon Beveridge from her incredible work over the last decade as a creator and director on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, or even Tumblr as NowThisIsLiving. Shannon has made it her mission to create the content she wished existed as a queer kid, and has spent her career directing and producing videos that positively represent the LGBTQIA+ community. Shannon balances creating her own content with directing and producing. She's directed narrative shorts, music videos for artists like Zolita, Joy Oladokun, Alyson Stoner, and Fletcher, and recently directed her first short film (!!). In our interview with Shannon we dug into how she got started and developed her career as a content creator, the lengths she went to to meet up with internet friends 10 years ago, how her and her ex were almost on a reality TV show, and a whole lot more. With her friend Jack, she decides to investigate, and finds herself caught in a web of intrigue. It's an explosive parcel of action and adventure.Fun Facts:This is the last film that Lindsay Lohan stars in under her original Disney contract that required her to do three movies, the other two being The Parent Trap and Life-Size.At the beginning of the movie when Lexy and Jen are showing each other their outfit choices, the song playing was later used in Hannah Montana as being the song that Mikayla (Selena Gomez) sings.A song by the band Prozzak, "Get a Clue," appeared in the film and the music video was shown on Disney Channel at the time of its release. The name of the band was changed to Simon and Milo, named after the characters depicted in the music video, so their band name would not be associated with the drugs.A well-concealed reshoot took place in late 2001 to film a different ending concluding that the villain in the film was Meany. In the original ending, the villain turned out to be Mrs. Stern, a teacher at Lexy's school who had known Mr. Walker while he was living in Arizona.Next Movie: Gotta Kick It Up! ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
