"Outrageous!"-"Ridiculous!"-"Offensive!"-"Fabulous!"Well, enough about me. Let's talk about SLEEPWALKERS!Join me, Patrick Walsh, and my guest, everyone's favorite New York City-based undead horror host Unkle Spooky on a deranged deep dive into the delicious chaos that is STEPHEN KING'S SLEEPWALKERS, a film as taboo and flawed as it is wildly entertaining.Tanya and Charles are the perfect All-American high school couple about to go on their first date. Unfortunately for Tanya, Charles and his mother are unkillable incestuous shapeshifting werecats who feed on the souls of young virgins, and Tanya is next on their menu! Will Tanya fall prey to these kinky beasts? Or is there an adorable four-legged hero somewhere who knows the one thing that can stop this monstrous duo forever? Look, I know this movie is a hot mess, but I still love it, warts and all, because hiding under all the absurdity, there's true greatness just waiting for someone to find it.And that someone is ME.SLEEPWALKERS was directed by Mick Garris, written by Stephen King and stars Mädchen Amick, Brian Krause, Alice Krige and Ron Perlman.Links referenced in this episode:univozpods.netflyingfoxtavern.comicepalace.clubUnkle SpookyThis podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Podtrac - https://analytics.podtrac.com/privacy-policy-gdrp

This week it's Maffs pick, Sleepwalkers! And what a backstory there is to this one! Sleepwalkers is a 1992 horror film directed by Mick Garris and written by Stephen King. The film revolves around a mother and son who are shapeshifting, vampiric creatures known as "Sleepwalkers." They feed on the life force of young virgins to sustain themselves. The production of Sleepwalkers involved a mix of horror and dark fantasy elements, typical of Stephen King's work. The movie featured a mother and son duo played by Alice Krige and Brian Krause, who are on the run from authorities and encounter various supernatural challenges. The film's production emphasized practical effects and makeup to bring the monstrous Sleepwalkers to life. It also included a memorable sequence involving a cemetery battle. While not a critical success, Sleepwalkers has gained a cult following among fans of Stephen King's work and '90s horror movies for its unique and bizarre storyline. The film explores the story of Veronica Ghent (Alice Krige) who after a double mastectomy goes to a healing retreat in rural Scotland with her young nurse Desi (Kota Eberhardt). Veronica discovers that the process of the surgery opens up questions about her very existence, and begins to confront past trauma. The retreat is said to have special powers because it was a site where witches were burned and there are large amounts of women's ashes in the earth. Veronica discovers her power and what agencies can heal her past and present wounds. Alice Krige talks about the complex role she plays, the themes of the film including surviving abuse and breast cancer – and rising from the ashes like a phoenix. Charlotte Colbert, Kitty Percy and Jessica Malik talk about the challenges of filming in a remote location in Scotland and the joyous collaboration of the female team who made the film, which made it better and better. This week, Kyle and Trevor review David Blue Garcia's, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)! The latest entry in the long running series of horror films, TCM 2022 is produced by prolific franchise horror innovator, Fede Alvarez. Set in a new continuity wherein all films subsequent to Tobe Hooper's classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) have been erased from the canon, the film features Mark Burnham donning the skin face mask and butcher's apron of franchise mascot Leatherface, now 50 years older, but no less deadly (or spry) than Gunnar Hansen's original incarnation. Having much more in common with traditional slasher films than the original films more nuanced approach to it's horror/entertainment, TCM 2022 sees Leatherface promoted to full-on “slasher hero” status, wherein we the viewer are meant to cheer the character on rather than dread his next appearance. Drenched in gore, and deeply unsympathetic to the plight of the Gen-Z cattle that are brutally slaughtered during the course of it's 81 minute run time, TCM 2022 is a fine modern slasher that manages the delicate task of remaining earnest with it's grim and fatalistic themes, while still managing to be a colorful and crowd pleasing mainstream horror sequel. While some fans of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre made their way over to Netflix for the new film, the ride or die fans sauntered over to Amazon Prime. Why? Because they have Night Court… featuring John Larroquette. That joke doesn't really land, since he narrated this sequel too, but seriously, you should watch Night Court. This was originally meant to be an episode where the hosts simply talked about movies in their collections that they hated or at the very least disliked. Then Ade popped in to say hi, and we realized that we had all seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre by David Blue Garcia, so we did an episode on it. The director, aside from being the guy in the Eiffel 65 music video, has a very limited resume. If any of you have seen Tejano, please let us know because it is not streaming for free and $3 is a lot of money compared to our numbers on Patreon… eesh… but hey on that topic—did you know we have a Patreon? *nudge nudge* The film must have been well received, because in the weeks since its release, Fede Alvarez was announced to be part of the next Alien installment. If you want to know how iconic that franchise is, keep in mind that I just used a general term for extraterrestrial and you knew exactly what franchise. Let me tell you, no one thinks of Soldier with Kurt Russel whenever you use that word… even if it is in the Blade Runner universe. Seriously, it is. Look it up. This film stars Sarah Yarkin plays Melody. No, she is not a musician from what I can tell. What I mean to say is that she plays the character Melody. Her sister, Lila, is played by Elsie Fisher. Mark Burnham, guy without a Wikipedia page, plays Leatherface. Moe Dunford pays the panty-moistening, Richter, whom Ade and Mikey both had strong feelings for. The Borg Queen, Alice Krige, stops by for a cup of coffee in the movie, delivering a very memorable moment. What did you think of the film? Leatherface is back in what is apparently the ninth installment of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. This "requel" does away with all the sequels and brings back the legacy characters of Leatherface, Sally Hardesty (the lone survivor from the first one), and the voice of John Larroquette as the narrator. The film didn't feel like Texas and was in fact shot in Bulgaria. While certainly grisly, we'll let you know how it holds up to the original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). The 83-minute Netflix film stars Sarah Yarkin, Elsie Fisher, Mark Burnham, Moe Dunford, Nell Hudson, Jessica Allain, Olwen Fouere, Jacob Latimore, and Alice Krige.
