Every collector dreams about landing a grail.Few talk about what happens when that opportunity finally arrives. In this episode, Brett explores the decisions that come before a grail enters a collection. Drawing from a real situation he is navigating, he shifts the focus away from the card itself and toward the process behind the purchase. The conversation examines why access is not obligation, how trust influences private deals, the difference between emotion and conviction, and why opportunity cost deserves as much attention as price. Brett also shares the questions every collector should ask before allowing one card to reshape the direction of a collection. This episode is a reminder that the strongest collections are not built by chasing every opportunity. They are built through patience, clarity, and decisions that hold up long after the excitement wears off.Check out the awesome software that InfernoRed Technology can build for you.Sign up for Hobby Jobs and The Weekly Rip for freeGet your free copy of Collecting For Keeps: Finding Meaning In A Hobby Built On HypeStart your 7 day free trial of Stacking Slabs Patreon Today[Distributed on Sunday] Sign up for the Stacking Slabs Weekly Rip Newsletter using this linkFollow Stacking Slabs: | Twitter | Instagram | Facebook | Tiktok ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

If you’ve spent much time in the worlds of poetry, faith, or the imagination, you’ve almost certainly encountered the work of Malcolm Guite. He’s one of those rare figures who moves comfortably between the academy, the church, and the arts. Guite is an Anglican priest, acclaimed poet, singer-songwriter, and Life Fellow of Girton College, where he served as chaplain for seventeen years.” Over the years, he has become one of today’s most influential voices exploring the intersection of literature, beauty, and Christian faith through books such as Faith, Hope and Poetry, Lifting the Veil, Mariner, and his beloved collections of sonnets inspired by the church year. His newest work is Galahad and the Holy Grail, a fresh retelling of one of the greatest stories in the Arthurian tradition. Rather than simply retelling an old legend, Guite invites readers into a richly imagined spiritual journey that explores courage, purity, sacrifice, and the deep human longing for God. Written in narrative verse, the book combines the musicality of poetry with the momentum of an epic adventure, making an ancient story feel remarkably fresh and relevant for modern readers. One of the delights of this project is that Galahad and the Holy Grail isn’t confined to the printed page. Guite has also taken the work on the road, performing it before live audiences in churches, theaters, and literary festivals. Those performances blend storytelling, dramatic reading, and music in a way that recalls the medieval tradition of poems being heard as well as read. Audience response has been enthusiastic, with many listeners discovering that the oral performance brings new depth and emotion to the story. Today we’ll talk with Malcolm Guite about the enduring power of the Grail legend, why ancient stories still matter, how poetry helps us recover wonder, and what Galahad’s quest can teach us about our own search for truth, beauty, and grace. I think you’ll enjoy this conversation. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. I'm your host, Warren Smith. Until next time, may God bless you.

On this week's episode, Yaron Werber, Tess Cameron, SamFazeli, and Brian Skorney kick off with a look at markets, noting that while AI remains hot, biotech may be cooling amid anticipated tech IPOs. The co-hosts note that biotech saw a significant recovery over the past year driven by M&A and improving sentiment, highlighting that the XBI has remained remarkably stable. The discussion then turns to policy, where momentum to expand the COINS Act into biotech raises concerns. The group highlights the need to distinguish between manufacturing supply chains, where national security risks are real, and innovation ecosystems, where restricting capital flows could slow drug development and shift advantage outside of the US. Recapping the highlights from ASCO 2026, Akeso/Summit's ivonescimab showed meaningful survival benefits, while Revolution Medicines' KRAS program in pancreatic cancer stood out as a breakthrough, receiving a standing ovation at the conference. In breast cancer, the focus was centered on emerging CDK4 selective inhibitors from Pfizer and others. Grail's multi-cancer early detection readout was also discussed, along with in vivo CAR-T data from Kelonia that showed strong early responses but raised durability questions. *This episode aired on June 5, 2026.

Malcolm Guite and Russell meet in Andrew Peterson's Chapter House–Guite's pipe smoke billowing–on the occasion of Guite's new book, Galahad and the Grail, the first volume in the Merlin's Isle trilogy from Rabbit Room Press.  Guite argues that myths and old stories aren't just relics of a pre-modern imagination, they're carriers of truth we've forgotten how to see with modern eyes. From King Arthur to the Holy Grail, these stories don't distract us from the real world, they reveal it. Guite suggests that our cultural moment—fragmented, distracted, and flattened by endless scrolling—has left us dismembered. We no longer see our lives as part of a coherent narrative. And without story, we lose not just meaning but identity. At the center of it all is a claim both strange and familiar: that the greatest story ever told is not one among many, but the one that gives meaning to all the others.  Along the way, Russell and Malcolm talk about how Guite has found a new audience on his wildly popular YouTube channel hosted out of his home library, the definition and origins of chivalry, and even the role Guite played in Martin Shaw's conversion (find Russell's interview with Shaw, here). King Arthur, the Grail, Merlin…these aren't just literary devices. They and other mythical tales echo something real about sin, redemption, and the hope that what is broken in us and in the world can be made whole again. In this episode of Prometheus Lens, we uncover the truth behind the Tuatha Dé Danann—a mysterious race said to descend from the sky, wield supernatural technology, and vanish into the earth without a trace. But that's only the beginning. Hidden across Ireland are sacred wells—ancient portals of water, guarded by enigmatic feminine figures known as Grail Maidens. These women weren't just myth… they were keepers of vessels, knowledge, and initiation rites tied to something far older than medieval legend. Could these “maidens” be part of a forgotten priesthood? Guardians of a hidden bloodline? Or gatekeepers to an ancient system of power linked to water, memory, and consciousness?
