It's Thursday, July 9th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus 2026 Global Persecution of Christian Index released International Christian Concern released its 2026 Global Persecution Index. The report highlights 20 countries where Christians face persecution. These countries include China, Cuba, India, Iran, and Nigeria. The report also put a spotlight on leaders of countries where persecution is worsening. These leaders include Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The report noted, “Despite mounting repression, Christianity continues to grow in unexpected places.” Examples of this include the Iranian house church movement and China's underground churches. Hebrews 13:3 says, “Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.” Christian British nurse, who affirmed biological accuracy, left alone The United Kingdom's Nursing and Midwifery Council dropped its case against a Christian nurse last week. Jennifer Melle worked at a hospital in London. In 2024, she used biologically-accurate pronouns with a patient who was pretending to be the opposite sex. She then faced suspension and an investigation. Thankfully, the nursing regulatory body has ended its case against her. Melle commented, “Regulators should protect patients from real harm, not punish nurses for holding Christian beliefs, speaking truthfully about biological sex, or raising serious concerns in the public interest.” Trump: Ceasefire with Iran is over after Iran attacked ships in Strait The United States carried out retaliatory strikes on Iran yesterday. The strikes came hours after Iran attacked commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The Trump administration also restored sanctions on Iran's oil sales. U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters he considers the ceasefire with Iran to be over. Listen. TRUMP: “They're vicious, violent people. If they had a nuclear weapon, they'd use it. As far as I'm concerned, it's over. I'll speak to our negotiators. They want to negotiate. They're good people: Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner. But they have to come back to me. As far as I'm concerned, it's just a waste of time dealing with them.” Ban on Planned Parenthood funding expired last week The federal government's ban on Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood expired last week. Congress passed legislation last year that cut the funding for just one year. As a result, dozens of Planned Parenthood locations have closed since then. However, the abortion giant can now resume its reimbursement from Medicaid. Some Republican lawmakers are calling for another bill to defund Planned Parenthood. Call your Congressman at 202-225-3121 and ask him or her to vote to continue to defund the abortion giant Planned Parenthood. If you don't know who it is, click here and type in your zipcode. Young Men's Christian Assoc. allows men in women's locker rooms Parents are calling on the Young Men's Christian Association to change its transgender policies. The publicly-funded organization allows men, pretending to be women, in women's bathrooms and locker rooms. The American Parents Coalition says this violates a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling. The decision affirmed that Title IX protections in federal law are based on biological sex. The coalition stated, “The YMCA has ignored parents' concerns for far too long while maintaining policies that undermine the privacy, safety, and fairness Title IX was enacted to protect.” Plus, it violates the group's stated vision which was to put Christian values into practice by developing a healthy body, mind, and spirit. Send a polite, 2-sentence letter of objection to the president of the Young Men's Christian Association and ask them to live up to their name and their Biblical founding by opposing this transgender insanity. Trump's tariffs led to Toyota announcing $3.6 billion U.S. expansion Toyota is expanding its manufacturing in the United States. On Monday, the Japanese car maker announced a $3.6 billion expansion in San Antonio, Texas. This will move some of its production from Mexico to the U.S. It will also bring about 2,000 new jobs to the Lone Star State. This expansion comes after the Trump administration imposed tariffs on imported vehicles and auto parts. Presbyterian Church U.S.A. defends transgender surgeries for kids The largest Presbyterian denomination in the United States supported transgender surgeries last week. The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA voted 441-30 in favor of an overture known as “On Access to Healthcare.” The measure defends body-mutilating surgeries for people, including children, who pretend to be the opposite sex. 2 Timothy 4:3-4 says, “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.” Christian US soccer player: “I'm just trying to bring people into His light.” The American men's soccer team lost to Belgium on Monday. The game knocked the U.S. out of the 2026 World Cup. Despite the loss, players on the U.S. team continued their practice of praying together on the field after the game. Player Mark McKenzie led the prayer, having become a spiritual leader on the team. He told The Athletic, “The Lord is at the center of it all. He is the main purpose. … And I'm just trying to bring people into His light in some way.” Worldview listeners weigh in from Washington and North Carolina Rachel Lundberg in Washougal, Washington wrote, “I like The Worldview because It allows me to feel like I'm aware of important things going on without having to spend so much time watching other news and sorting it out or wondering if it's true. I almost always just read it in my email and then I share certain parts with my kids and family. “My 13-year-old son recently wanted to subscribe with his own email so he can read it on his own. I also love when there is an action step to send an email or letter. Makes me feel like I can make a difference. Thank you!” Wow! I loved that last comment, Rachel. I gave you two suggested action steps today. I hope you follow through on them. I agree with you. It feels empowering. I always try to write or call myself every time I recommend it to you. And Chris Smith in Columbus, North Carolina wrote, “I've been a listener now for 10 years. I've become a vocal and financial supporter as well. In this current era, it's very difficult to find the truth about what is going on to our fellow Christians in the world without doing a lot of digging. “Since I first found you on Sermon Audio, I've become an addict of your newscast. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus Nigerian Muslims killed 28 Christians Militant Muslims killed 28 Christians, including a pastor, in central Nigeria last week. A local resident told Morning Star News, “We heard them even mentioning the names of some of our Christian leaders and directing some of them to hunt them down in their homes.” Clint Lyons with iReach Global spoke to CBN News about the terrible persecution of Christians in Nigeria. Listen. LYONS: “This isn't just a tragedy, it's a pattern. These attacks are no longer isolated, they are becoming expected. We can almost pinpoint where they're going to happen. Right now, it's looking like the Nigerian government is just simply not responding to the plight of Christians in the area.” Denmark considers banning Islamic call to prayer In Europe, the government of Denmark is considering a ban on the Islamic call to prayer. Morten Bødskov is the country's immigration minister. He recently reopened an investigation into whether such a ban is constitutional. The Islamic call to prayer, known as the Adhan, calls Muslims five times a day to prayer, often over loudspeakers. Bødskov told a local news agency, “The call to prayer should not be heard over Danish rooftops. It has no place in Denmark, and you shouldn't be in any doubt whether you've ended up in a suburb of Islamabad when you walk around Denmark.” In Isaiah 45:20, 22, the Lord said, “They have no knowledge, who … pray to a god that cannot save. … Look to Me, and be saved, all you ends of the Earth! For I am God, and there is no other.” U.S. Supreme Court upholds ban of transgenders in sports Here in the United States, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against transgenderism in sports yesterday. The ruling upheld laws in West Virginia and Idaho. These laws prohibit males, pretending to be females, from participating in female sports. Over the past six years, 27 states have enacted such laws. The ruling stated, “The question before the Court is . . . may schools determine eligibility for women's and girls' sports based on biological sex? The answer is yes.” Report: Liberal Presbyterian Church USA lost 128 congregations The largest Presbyterian denomination in the U.S. continues its decline in membership. A new report from the Presbyterian Church USA found that the denomination lost 26,000 members and 128 congregations from 2024 to 2025. Membership has fallen by an annual average of 4.6 percent over the past 10 years. During that time, the denomination has also continued its theological drifting. The Presbyterian Church USA is known for supporting abortion and sexually perverted lifestyles. Texas State Board of Education approved Bible on reading list Last week, the Texas State Board of Education approved a public-school reading list that includes the Bible. Bible verses will become required reading as part of literature studies in 2030. These include readings about Noah's Ark, David and Goliath, the Parting of the Red Sea, and the Beatitudes. Brandon Hall is a pastor and a member of the state education board. He said, “We're going to stop watering down American history. We're going to teach the truth. Our nation was founded as a Christian nation, and Texas is a Christian state.” Buying a home harder today than previous generation A new report from Pew Research found that buying a home has gotten harder for young adults in most American metro areas. Eighty-nine percent of adults under 40 say home buying is harder for them than it was for their parents. Between 2019 and 2024, the inflation-adjusted median home value rose 30 percent. Meanwhile, the inflation-adjusted median household income of young adults rose only nine percent. Founding anniversary of Gideons who've distributed 2.5 billion Scriptures Today marks the 127th anniversary of the founding of The Gideons, a ministry dedicated to distributing Bibles. Two traveling Christian salesmen got the idea for the ministry after providentially meeting at a hotel. John Nicholson and Samuel Hill later founded the group on July 1, 1899 at a YMCA in Wisconsin. The ministry encouraged Christian traveling businessmen by placing Bibles in hotel rooms. They placed their first Bible in 1908. Over a hundred years later, The Gideons surpassed 2.5 billion Scriptures distributed worldwide. Isaiah 52:7 says, “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns.'” The Worldview needs to raise $123,500 by Friday, July 31st And finally, during the month of July, The Worldview newscast team is looking for financial partners to help fund the next fiscal year for a total of $123,500. When you picture an American church building, what do you think of? Is it a gothic, palatial cathedral that dwarfs its neighboring buildings and carries with it an air of ancient mystery? Is it a small, white chapel with a sharp steeple and a quiet humility about its presence? Or does an American church conjure up a visual that isn't all that glorious and isn't all that quaint—something like a strip mall or a sprawling campus of boxy structures reminiscent of a convention center?While many Americans might picture the latter, equating all American Christianity with the sort of no-bells-and-whistles aesthetic approach of evangelicalism, American christianity is no stranger to beautiful architecture.In nearly every American city, beautiful, complex church buildings can be found—spires, stained glass, clock towers, and vaulted ceilings are not only present in American protestant churches, they are downright common.In fact, some of the most historically American church traditions such as the PCUSA and the Episcopal Church are in possession of many of these houses of worship. But for many conservative protestants, the beauty of the church building stands in sharp contrast to the theological departure many of the mainline traditions have from orthodoxy. With many mainline traditions affirming LGBTQ lifestyles and, more importantly, calling into question core Christian doctrines such as the bodily resurrection of Christ or the authority of scripture, it has been generally accepted that theologically conservative believers ought to steer clear of the mainline and join more orthodox congregations—even if they meet in an old bank or a local elementary school.But, that position may be changing. In 2023, Christian Gen-Z YouTuber Richard Ackerman, known online as Redeemed Zoomer, began Operation Reconquista. Operation Reconquista, which now appears to have changed its name to Operation Reformation, is a movement of American Christians who believe that restoring orthodoxy in mainline churches is possible and deeply important. And they don't discriminate by denomination. Operation Reformation seeks to reform the Episcopal Church, The United Methodist Church, The Presbyterian Church USA, The Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and others. Their strategy is to have Christians join the few, but findable mainline congregations who hold to more traditional Christian views, thus strengthening the conservative minority as the progressive majority, in their view, inevitably dies out.And, though it certainly is a motivation, the movement isn't merely about reclaiming the physical church buildings. It is about reclaiming the cultural influence that many of these denominations hold in the American public. These churches often already have robust networks of service and outreach organizations, they are located conveniently in the center of American towns and they are generally well connected to many facets of American life, from local government to community events.To better understand why conservative Christians are beginning to consider joining a mainline church and why their presence just might be effective, Culture Critic Joseph Holmes interviewed Joe Colletti, who is known online as Young Anglican. Colletti was previously a member of the Anglican Church in North America, but has recently left the ACNA to join The Episcopal Church. Though he has been vocally cautious and even resistant of Operation Reconquista since its founding, he has now embraced the mainline, but with a key difference from the rest of the movement: Colletti is interested only in the reclaiming of the Church which sits at the center of historical American social influence: the Episcopal Church.

(Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Spanish priest acquitted on hate crime charges for criticizing radical Islam A Spanish Catholic priest who was facing three years in prison for making critical remarks about radical Islam nearly a decade ago has been acquitted, reports The Christian Post. The advocacy organization Abogados Cristianos announced in an X post last Friday that “The Malaga Court [acquitted] Pastor Custodio [Ballester], prosecuted for criticizing Islam: there is no hate crime.” In 2016, Ballester was charged with saying, “Islam does not allow for dialogue. You either believe or you are an infidel who must be subdued one way or another.” The Rev. Franklin Graham praised Ballester's acquittal as “good news” in an X post on Monday. A report published last month by the Spanish Observatory for Religious Freedom and Conscience found that 69% of the attacks were directed at Christians, while instances of antisemitism grew by 38% compared to 2023 and had increased by 867% since 2022. Senator Schumer's shutdown flip flop, afraid of an AOC challenge Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the Minority Leader of the U.S. Senate, has historically opposed government shutdowns. He opposed a shutdown on October 16, 2013. SCHUMER: “What if I persuaded my caucus to say I'm going to shut the government down. I'm going to not pay our bills unless I get my way. It's a politics of idiocy, of confrontation, of paralysis.” Then, Senator Schumer opposed a government shutdown on January 25, 2019. SCHUMER: “Shutting down government over a policy difference is self-defeating. We can never hold American workers hostage again.” And, as recently as March 13th of this year, Senator Schumer opposed a government shutdown then. SCHUMER: “While the [Continuing Resolution] bill is very bad, the potential for a shutdown has consequences for America that are much, much worse. Therefore, I will vote to keep the government open and not shut it down.” But now, Democratic Senator Schumer is leading the fight for the government shutdown, driven by the AOC/Sanders wing of his party. Listen to CNN's John Berman's introduction of his recent appearance. BERMAN: “Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who joins us now from Capitol Hill. Senator, I was saying that every Republican who's gone on TV the last, what nine hours or so, has called this the ‘Schumer Shutdown.” Later, Berman said this. BERMAN: “Everyone in Congress right now, on the Republican side, is really pointing the finger squarely at you personally. And one of the things they're saying is, this is about politics in New York, that you might face a primary from Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.” In fact, Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana said as much. KENNEDY: “Senator Schumer, his relationship with the truth is very casual. The truth is that this is a political shutdown. Senator Schumer is nervous as a pregnant nun about losing his re-election to the socialist wing of his party led by Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez, which is in control. “Now, we will eventually come out of this shutdown. Here's how I think it will happen. Senator Schumer is a smart man. He's been around a long time. His first car was a chariot. Washington is all he's ever known his entire life. He knows he's on shaky ground here in terms of policy. “So, here's how I think it'll end. Schumer will go to six or eight of his colleagues, Democrats of course, and say, ‘I want you to vote to lift the shutdown.' He'll say, ‘I can't vote with you. I've got to appear to be tough. I may even have to criticize you, but' -- wink wink, nod nod – ‘I'm trying to make the loon wing of the party love me, but you bail me out here.' But he's got to be careful with that, because he doesn't want it to look like a mutiny, because then he looks even weaker.” CA teacher to ICE: “They are not the only ones with guns in this city.” The Department of Homeland Security will refer a California teacher for a possible criminal probe after he made threatening comments toward immigration officials, reports WorldNetDaily.com. Listen to Los Angeles Unified School District history teacher Ron Gochez. GOCHEZ: “Don't forget where you're standing. This is South Central Los Angeles. They are not the only ones with guns in this city. They're not the only ones that don't forget that. And I don't say that because we're calling it for violence. I'm saying that because the people have every right to defend themselves against masked, unidentified gunmen with AR-15s and other military rifles.” Gochez founded the Los Angeles chapter of Union del Barrio—a revolutionary socialist movement that demands an end to capitalism and open borders from Alaska to Chile. The group sees communist dictators like Fidel Castro, Hugo Chavez, and Che Guevara as heroes. DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said that the teacher's comments endanger ICE agents' lives. New Bible story book injects sexual perversion, gender confusion, and woke ideology And finally, a new children's book of Bible stories claims that the Bible has "made-up" stories and events in its pages, drawing criticism from Focus on the Family, reports The Christian Post. The Just Love Story Bible, authored by Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis and Rev. Dr. Shannon Harris, reimagines 52 stories from the Old and New Testaments, weaving in sexual perversion, gender confusion, and woke ideology. For them, the Bible is not authoritative; they are. In the book's introduction to Genesis, the woke authors, who are part of the leftist Presbyterian Church (USA), write, "Some of the stories had made-up characters and events. Others were about real people and things that really happened." Harris, an associate dean at Auburn Theological Seminary in New York City, explained her motivation behind the project at a Q&A event for the book in September. HARRIS: “I wanted to do this project with Jackie, because when my kids were little, it was really hard to find a children's Bible that I didn't feel like I had to change some of the words. Like there might be stories that talked about God, like God was a boy (laughing) and only used kind of male language for God. Or they might tell a story, but they wouldn't tell enough about the story to understand whether it was about a made-up character or a real person.” Later, to the audience of parents and young children, she read an excerpt from her woke Just Love Story Bible in which she reinterpreted the plagues and other punishments that God had sent to get Pharoah's attention or the attention of His chosen people, the Jews. HARRIS: “Four natural disasters, one after the other. Well, the prophet and the people thought they were to blame. They thought that the disasters were God's way of punishing them. They didn't know that when bad things happen, like swarms of bugs, floods, earthquakes or tornadoes, it's not God's punishment, but it's easy to worry when bad things happen, to feel like God's angry at you, even when that's not true.” Inspired by the Joel 2:28 passage, Harris also imagined what a young person might envision. HARRIS: “So what did the young people prophesy back then? Perhaps one of them bravely announced to the prophets, priests and people: ‘I don't believe that our loving God sends terrible things to teach us a lesson.'” In an op-ed published by Focus on the Family's news arm, Daily Citizen, Paul Batura warned families about The Just Love Story Bible. He said, "[T]he motives of the authors appear broader and far more dangerous than merely trumpeting diversity. They also want to sow seeds of doubt in children's minds that the events depicted in the Bible are literally true, including the Resurrection.” He added, "Questioning the accuracy and authority of the Bible is hardly a new exercise, but so blatantly and openly selling such a heretical interpretation of God's Word to children undermines God's sacred Word in a particularly dangerous and destructive way." Indeed, 2 Timothy 4:3-4 says, “For a time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths." In this episode we interview Reverend Darren who is a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA in Wisconsin. This conversation started as a text and google doc exchange around the story of Amalek within the Old Testament of the Christian Bible and the Tanakh, or the Hebrew Bible. We talk about how we should understand the relationship between these biblical stories and documented history, their relationship to the Gaza genocide, and how we might fit our analyses of these narratives into the relationship between US imperialism and zionism. Along the way, Darren engages with questions of faith practice, the relative absence - and silence - of particularly Euro-American liberal Christian congregations among those standing in defense of Palestinian lives, and Palestinian sovereignty. Darren also discusses how the gears of US fascism - called for in documents like Project 2025 and Project Esther, and being enacted through the Trump administration - are being lubricated by the absurd and ethically vacuous nature of US liberalism.
