Look to him, your Savior, in temptations' hour; let his will enfold you in its light and power. 4 Christians, this Lord Jesus shall return again, with his Father's glory o'er the earth to reign; for all wreaths of empire meet upon his brow, and our hearts confess him King of glory now. Refrain: O star of wonder, star of light, star with royal beauty bright, westward leading, still proceeding, guide us to thy perfect light. 2 Born a King on Bethlehem's plain, gold I bring to crown him again, King forever, ceasing never, over us all to reign. [Refrain] 3 Frankincense to offer have I; incense owns a Deity nigh; prayer and praising, voices raising, worshiping God on high. [Refrain] 4 Myrrh is mine; its bitter perfume breathes a life of gathering gloom; sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying, sealed in the stone-cold tomb. Joyful, all ye nations, rise, join the triumph of the skies; with th'angelic hosts proclaim, "Christ is born in Bethlehem!" Hark! the herald angels sing, "Glory to the newborn King" 2 Christ, by highest heaven adored, Christ, the everlasting Lord, late in time behold him come, offspring of the Virgin's womb: veiled in flesh the Godhead see; hail th'incarnate Deity, pleased as man with men to dwell, Jesus, our Immanuel. Hark! the herald angels sing, "Glory to the newborn King" 3 Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of Righteousness! Light and life to all he brings, risen with healing in his wings. Mild he lays his glory by, born that man no more may die, born to raise the sons of earth, born to give them second birth. Hark! the herald angels sing, "Glory to the newborn King" Prayer of Praise: Lighting of the Advent Candle 4 – Forsyth Family Song of Worship Prayers of the Church and the Prayer of our Lord Offering and a Christmas Carol What Child is This 1 What child is this, who, laid to rest, on Mary's lap is sleeping? Whom angels greet with anthems sweet, while shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing: Haste, haste to bring him laud, the babe, the son of Mary. 2 Why lies he in such mean estate where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christian, fear: for sinners here the silent Word is pleading. This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing: Haste, haste to bring him laud, the babe, the son of Mary. 3 So bring him incense, gold, and myrrh, come, peasant, king, to own him. The King of kings salvation brings, let loving hearts enthrone him. This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing: Haste, haste to bring him laud, the babe, the son of Mary. Scripture Lesson Luke 1:46-55 Page 780 Sermon A Song to Sing Closing Hymn “The First Noel” 1 The first Noel the angels did say was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay: In fields where they lay keeping their sheep on a cold winter's night that was so deep. Refrain: Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, born is the King of Israel. 2 They looked up and saw a star shining in the east beyond them far: And to the earth it gave great light and so it continued both day and night. [Refrain] 3 And by the light of that same star three wise men came from the country far; To seek for a King was their intent, and to follow the star wherever it went. [Refrain] 4 This star drew nigh to the north-west; o’er Bethlehem it took it's rest, And there it did both stop and stay, right over the place where Jesus lay. [Refrain] 5 Then entered in those wise men three, fell reverently upon their knee, And offered there in his presence their gold and myrrh and frankincense. [Refrain] 6 Then let us all with one accord sing praises to our heavenly Lord, That hath made heaven and earth of naught, and with his blood mankind has bought. December 13, 2020 Preparation for Worship Time for Gathering Opening Hymn: “Once in Royal David’s City” 1 Once in royal David's city stood a lowly cattle shed, where a mother laid her baby in a manger for his bed: Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ, her little child. 2 He came down to earth from heaven who is God and Lord of all, and his shelter was a stable, and his cradle was a stall: with the poor, and mean, and lowly, lived on earth our Saviour holy. 3 For He is our childhood's pattern; Day by day, like us, He grew; He was little, weak, and helpless, Tears and smiles, like us He knew; And He cares when we are sad, And he shares when we are glad. 4 And our eyes at last shall see Him, Through His own redeeming love; For that Child so dear and gentle, Is our Lord in heaven above: And He leads His children on, To the place where He is gone. Prayer of Praise Song of Worship Prayers of the Church and the Prayer of our Lord Offering and a Christmas Carol: Away in a Manger Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, the little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head. The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay, The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay. The cattle are lowing; the baby awakes, but little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes. I love you, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky and stay by my side until morning is nigh. Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask you to stay Close by me forever, and love me, I pray. Bless all the dear children in your tender care, and fit us for heaven, to live with you there. Scripture Lesson: Micah 4: 6-8, 5:2-4, Isaiah 40:11 Page 705, 547 Sermon: Our Shepherd Closing Hymn: “O Little Town of Bethlehem” 1 O little town of Bethlehem, How still we see thee lie! Above thy deep and dreamless sleep The silent stars go by; Yet in thy dark streets shineth The everlasting Light. The hopes and fears of all the years Are met in thee tonight. 2 For Christ is born of Mary and, gathered all above While mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wond'ring love. O morning stars, together proclaim the holy birth, And praises sing to God the King, and peace to men on earth! 3 How silently, how silently The wondrous gift is giv'n! So God imparts to human hearts The blessings of his heav'n. No ear may hear his coming, But in this world of sin, Where meek souls will receive him, still The dear Christ enters in. 4 O holy Child of Bethlehem, Descend to us, we pray; Cast out our sin and enter in, Be born in us today. We hear the Christmas angels, The great glad tidings tell; O come to us, abide with us, Our Lord Immanuel!
