This week- we celebrate our 400th episode with a four pack of films, each tailored to our individual tastes. Apparently, we all like crime. A lot. When Drew returns home after a long time away, this adoptive sister lover concocts a plan to escape with the addict of his eye. Even if it means murdering their adoptive father. Unfortunately, Papa isn't as slow as everyone else and makes plans of his own. An early film from John Swab, a favorite filmmaker of Tyler's, about existential criminal crisis in the Bible Belt- Let Me Make You a Martyr. Cerebral and coolheaded Detective Somerset is looking forward to retiring at the end of the week. His replacement, young and brash Detective Mills, arrives just in time for a little touch passing and training. Unfortunately for them both, this all happens just as a serial killer with a religiously inspire masterplan announces his arrival in sadistic fashion. Both a number close to Kevin's heart and widely considered on of director David Fincher's best films- Seven. In 1964, Johnny Bartlett was executed for killing 12 people at the local hospital. In 1990 Frank Bannister's wife died under mysterious circumstances with the number "13" craved into her forehead. The trauma leaves Frank with the ability to communicate with ghosts. Now Frank leads a pack of spirited haunters and is about to learn that Bartlett's rampage might not be as far in the past as everyone assumes it it. An uneven goofy romp with deeply disturbing meta undertones, just like Dave, and the first major effects project helmed by Peter Jackson- The Frighteners. Gal and his wife have long since left their seedy London criminal origins for a nice quiet life in Spain. When they get the news that an old psychotic associate, Don, will soon be arriving with a job offer. Unwilling to take no for an answer and with a violent temper that knows little restraint, Gal just might find himself back with the gang for one more heist. The first feature from Craig's favorite director and costarring a fistful of his favorite actors- Sexy Beast. All that and a twist ending that leaves three of the Raiders devastated. Happy Halloween! 'Tis the night of ghouls, ghosts, witches, goblins and pumpkins and what better way to celebrate it than to stay inside, lock the doors, hide your candy (because it's MINE!) and listen to us chat about The Frighteners? Peter Jackson's 1996 breakout flick sees Michael J. Fox as Frank Bannister, a con man who sets up hauntings so that he can exorcise houses. The twist? He can actually see ghosts and he sends his deceased pals Cyrus and Stuart to throw things around. When a hooded grim reaper figure starts killing off the townsfolk, Frank's on the case! We recommend this movie heartily, it's a good 'un. We open our episode with a discussion about bad language, so it's allowed. Rated E for Educational. Come for our discussion on the movie, stay for a round of "Answer Me Quickly", some slightly outdated Movie News, Trivia Corner and whatever Si's calling his VFX segment nowadays. Also, if you're looking for quality Michael J. Fox impressions…probably best to look elsewhere… Ready? Let's have an episode. MUSIC TRACKS Modern Funk Groove by StudioEtude. When has there been a movie you enjoyed so much . . . you got the main character's name wrong because it resembles the protagonist of a 2000 comedic drama showcasing the life of a record store owner, and compulsive list maker, recount his top five breakups, including the one he's currently in? Huh? Who would do such a thing? Me. It's was me. I do love High Fidelity. But this time around we have our very own Marty McFly bumping around with some ghosts to the tune of Ghostbusters. What could go wrong? Oh, right. His name. I kept calling him Kevin Bannister and not his true name Frank Bannister. Fucking Kevin Bannister. HE WAS HER FIRST BOYFRIEND!!!1!111!! Pour yourself a cup of coffee, put your feet up and get ready to howl at the moon because you are listening to THE LATE NIGHT FRIGHT right here on WKMF Cozy Corner Public Radio. Tonight's feature, THE FRIGHTENERS from Oscar winner Peter Jackson (THE LORD OF THE RINGS, KING KONG), was originally envisioned as a TALES FROM THE CRYPT feature film release, but executive producer Robert Zemeckis (BACK TO THE FUTURE, WHAT LIES BENEATH) thought it was good enough to stand on its own merits. Starring the one and only Michael J. Fox (BACK TO THE FUTURE, FAMILY TIES) as psychic con man Frank Bannister, THE FRIGHTENERS is some of the most fun you'll ever have being scared. The excellent supporting cast includes Trini Alvorado (LITTLE WOMEN), Jefrey Combs (REANIMATOR), JAKE BUSEY (STARSHIP TROOPERS) and Dee Wallace Stone (ET: THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL). See you in Cozy Corner!

Continuing with our Peter Jackson series, this week we're talking all things Jackson's 1996 horror comedy, The Frighteners. Starring Michael J Fox as Frank Bannister, a man who can see ghosts and uses this ability to con unsuspecting townsfolk into paying him to perform exorcisms, The Frighteners was a box office disappointment, but has since gained a cult following. Why?
Once an architect, Frank Bannister now passes himself off as an exorcist of evil spirits. To bolster his facade, he claims his "special" gift is the result of a car accident that killed his wife. But what he does not count on is more people dying in the small town where he lives. As he tries to piece together the supernatural mystery of these killings, he falls in love with the wife of one of the victims and deals with a crazy FBI agent. Death ain't no way to make a living. But don't tell that to Frank Bannister, psychic investigator extraordinaire! He just might invade your Grandma's funeral to pass out his business cards... and then might crash into your picket fence and crush your favorite garden gnome. Grab your holy water squirt gun, your ghost buddies, and stay out of Milton's territorial bubble! It's Peter Jackson's The Frighteners! With special guest Pat!
Peter Jackson having fun - and who doesn't love that? Michael J Fox shines as possible con man, definite psychic Frank Bannister, whose talent for seeing dead people gets him in a whole lot of trouble, and he's bringing Trini Alvarado along for the ride. Lots of special effects and scares, plus Jeffrey Combs at his twitchy, psychotic best.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/HorrorMovieSurvivalGuide)
