Dan, Manny, & Billy are joined by their longtime friends Jeremy & Mike to talk about a whole bunch of craziness to put to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST! “Hellraiser, I think is the most overrated horror franchise of all time.” -Dan Dan, Manny, & Billy pulled this Nostalgia Test News/Audience Suggestions/Friend Hangout out of left field! They're surprised by their longtime friends Jeremy (from Mrs. Doubtfire, the Metallica episodes, and the 2024 Hangout) & Mike (from the Iron Eagle episode). This dives into SNL funny or not, Reboots (again), Hockey and can Dan find a skate for a size 14 shoe, 100 men vs 1 gorilla, and insane drinking stories. The conversation goes even further back into memories of playing manhunt and if that game can be played today, a cool idea for a horror movie, stories from summertime at the public pool, diners, drinking Black Haus and After Shock, and so much more. This is an episode for the ages, a true inside look at these guys' friendships and what makes The Nostalgia Test Podcast so much fun. Welcome to Director Watch! On this AwardsWatch podcast, co-hosts Ryan McQuade and Jay Ledbetter attempt to breakdown, analyze, and ultimately, get inside the mind of some of cinema's greatest auteurs. In doing so, they will look at their filmographies, explore what drives them artistically and what makes their decision making process so fascinating. Add in a few silly tangents and a fun game at the end of the episode and you've got yourself a podcast we truly hope you love. On episode 99 of the Director Watch Podcast, the boys are joined by AwardsWatch contributor Cody Dericks to discuss the next film in their Peter Jackson series, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001). After making The Frighteners, Peter Jackson set out to make an epic, and had the blessing of the Hollywood studio system to do so. He spent a lot of his time trying to come up with an idea to remake the monster movie classic King Kong (more on that in a couple of weeks). After a failed attempt to get that project off the ground, he set off to make an action adventure film in the vein of The Lord of the Rings, and after a first draft, his partner Fran Walsh told Jackson that a lot of what he was writing basically was J.R.R Tolkien's trilogy of books. From that moment, Jackson decided to make his version of a collection of novels that were deemed unadaptable for the big screen, and in doing so, created one of the single most influential trilogies in cinema history. Ryan, Jay, and Cody break down their thoughts on the first entry into The Lord of the Rings saga, the behind the scenes drama leading up to making the film, re-casting what ifs, the earnestness of these films, the building and breaking apart of the fellowship, who is the character they relate to the most, and we finally find out after fifteen years of being agnostic to this trilogy if Jay now likes Lord of the Rings. You'll have to listen to find out. You can listen to the Director Watch Podcast wherever you stream podcasts, from iTunes, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music, YouTube and more. This podcast runs 2h30m. The guys will be back next week to continue their series on the films of Peter Jackson with a review of his next film, The Lord of the Rings: The Tw Towers. You can rent it via iTunes and Amazon Prime rental in preparation for the next episode of Director Watch. Till then, let's get into it. Add in a few silly tangents and a fun game at the end of the episode and you've got yourself a podcast we truly hope you love. On episode 98 of the Director Watch Podcast, the boys are joined by Brian Tallerico, Managing Editor of RogerEbert.com, to discuss the next film in their Peter Jackson series, The Frighteners (1996). The critical success of Heavenly Creatures proved to put Jackson on the map, with Hollywood calling for him to start making bigger pictures. In writing a treatment in 1992 for an idea that would become The Frighteners, Oscar winning director Robert Zemeckis viewed their idea as a chance to be a spin off to the television series Tales from the Crypt, centering on a small town private eye who can see and speak to the dead. In working with Jackson and Fran Walsh, Zemeckis liked the idea of the young director making the film, and thus became the last film he would make before the biggest project of his life. But is it good, is it successful, or is it a forgotten relic that doesn't make sense within Jackson's filmography. Ryan, Jay, and Brian debate where The Frighteners lands, the importance of Weta Digital, the career of Michael J. Fox, Jackson getting the movie filmed in New Zealand even though it takes place in America, and preview the start of the boys' journey to Middle Earth over the next couple of weeks. You can listen to the Director Watch Podcast wherever you stream podcasts, from iTunes, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music, YouTube and more. This podcast runs 1h21m. Add in a few silly tangents and a fun game at the end of the episode and you've got yourself a podcast we truly hope you love. On episode 97 of the Director Watch Podcast, the boys are joined by film critic Jesse Nussman to discuss the next film in their Peter Jackson series, Heavenly Creatures (1994). After making a name for himself as a horror director, Jackson took a different route for his next film, incorporating his genre sensibilities for a drama about a real life murder case in New Zealand. Centered around two young girls who become friends and a tight bond that is threatened by their parents, who find it stranger than your average friendship. In an attempt to be with each other forever, the two girls come up with a plan to run away, and in doing so, commit a heinous crime that shocked the entire country. By tackling this subject, Jackson was able to embody a magical realism to the entire film, particularly in the imaginative world the girls have built for each other, and in doing so, created a one of a kind bio-pic that is haunting and heartbreaking. Ryan, Jay, and Jesse breakdown their thoughts on the film, if running away was a good plan, the murder weapon used in the crime, the breakout performances for Melanie Lynskey and Kate Winslet as well as the different paths each actress took, Jackson's imagery in the dream world, if the extended cut adds anything new to the story, and how hard it is to find this film on streaming and physical media. This week- we celebrate our 400th episode with a four pack of films, each tailored to our individual tastes. Apparently, we all like crime. A lot. When Drew returns home after a long time away, this adoptive sister lover concocts a plan to escape with the addict of his eye. Even if it means murdering their adoptive father. Unfortunately, Papa isn't as slow as everyone else and makes plans of his own. An early film from John Swab, a favorite filmmaker of Tyler's, about existential criminal crisis in the Bible Belt- Let Me Make You a Martyr. Cerebral and coolheaded Detective Somerset is looking forward to retiring at the end of the week. His replacement, young and brash Detective Mills, arrives just in time for a little touch passing and training. Unfortunately for them both, this all happens just as a serial killer with a religiously inspire masterplan announces his arrival in sadistic fashion. Both a number close to Kevin's heart and widely considered on of director David Fincher's best films- Seven. In 1964, Johnny Bartlett was executed for killing 12 people at the local hospital. In 1990 Frank Bannister's wife died under mysterious circumstances with the number "13" craved into her forehead. The trauma leaves Frank with the ability to communicate with ghosts. Now Frank leads a pack of spirited haunters and is about to learn that Bartlett's rampage might not be as far in the past as everyone assumes it it. An uneven goofy romp with deeply disturbing meta undertones, just like Dave, and the first major effects project helmed by Peter Jackson- The Frighteners. Gal and his wife have long since left their seedy London criminal origins for a nice quiet life in Spain. When they get the news that an old psychotic associate, Don, will soon be arriving with a job offer. Unwilling to take no for an answer and with a violent temper that knows little restraint, Gal just might find himself back with the gang for one more heist. The first feature from Craig's favorite director and costarring a fistful of his favorite actors- Sexy Beast. All that and a twist ending that leaves three of the Raiders devastated. Join us, won't you? Episode 400- 400 (Unsimulated) Blows

Welcome back to another SUPER HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR episode! Happy Halloween from RTS! Frank Bannister (Michael J. Fox), after an accident, has the ability to communicate with the deceased. Of course, using these powers to scare up some profits is going to be the first order of business. Lucy (Trini Alvarado) just lost her husband and is open to Frank's ghost-vibe. Things seem to go well, but now, a death-like apparition is killing the people of Fairwater. It's truly heart crushing. Agent Milton Dammers (Jeffrey Combs) has his own theories about these mysterious deaths, and he has a lead plated vest. Frank, his ghost pals and his offroad driving might be the way to put a stop to it. RTS need an out-of-body experience right now. La-Mar, Jeremy, Collin and Rami all make sure they're not another number in the kill spree. Get ready for some spooky film trivia. “What about the guy in the toilet? What did he do to you?”

A psychic con man who uses the dead to haunt the living finds himself at the center of a supernatural killing spree that is picking off the citizens of a small, sleepy town. Directed by: Peter JacksonWritten by: Peter Jackson and Fran WalshStarring: Michael J. Fox, Trini Alvarado, Dee Wallace, Jake Busey, and Jeffrey CombsCome on in and have a listen! What do you think of this movie? What are others like it you enjoyed? We'd love to hear from you! Please like, follow, subscribe, share.
We kick the show off with returning guest, Johnny Catalano of The Plaza Theatre and the Catalano Film Festival to talk about an upcoming event we're putting on, where I will be hosting a screening of the fun 1996 movie, "The Frighteners!" Don't worry, we'll be back after we chat with St. Elmo's at the end of the episode to dive into more nerdy film stuff. Speaking of, we finally get Tyler from St. Elmo's on the show. St. Elmo Steak House has been a landmark in downtown Indianapolis since 1902. It is the oldest Indianapolis steakhouse in its original location, and has earned a national reputation for its excellent steaks, seafood, chops and professional service. They now have a huge line of products that we carry here at Jungle Jim's, from their incredible cocktail sauce, all the way to their new line of ready-to-drink cocktails and spirits! Their espresso martini was a huge hit in the office, and I can't say enough great things about their sauces. Shout out to their Root Beer Glaze, which we did not feature on this episode, even though I love it too much. As promised, Johnny and I return to chat about Peter Jackson and how he went from being a weird indie director, rising through the failure of The Frighteners, only to turn around and make the Lord of the Rings trilogy. All over a delicious glass of St. Elmo's Elmo Cola. All that and more on the Jungle Jim's Podcast!
Ghost Month is coming to an end, and we look to Patreon to help us decide the finale episode of the month. This week we are joined by Logan, one half of the amazing @videovillaentertainment , to discuss the final horror film by King of Middle Earth, Peter Jackson, as we look at 1996's THE FRIGHTENERS. This would also be the final film for star Michael J. Fox and the start of Weta Workshop, which would pave the way for what would become Lord of the Rings. We discuss the many stars, the effects, and what the hell Jeffrey Combs is doing in this movie. So travel with us to the beautiful land of New Zealand, as we battle the grim reaper, windy roads and another Busey, this week on Dissect That Film S2 E35. This week, we take a look at The Frighteners, starring Michael J Fox, R Lee Emery, Jake Busey, and Dee Wallace. We discuss some behind the scenes moments, go through the plot of the film, and much more. Are you a fan of this mid 90's cult classic? Share your opinions with us, and as always, enjoy the episode!!
We have a giant 75th episode, the Creeps finally try Hill and Hollow on the show after wanting to showcase them for years. This lovely family's food truck is renown for its fresh, creative, and super local treats. To find them, visit Facebook.com/hillandhollowwv/ for schedules and more info. We found them at our latest visit to the Bridgeport Farmer's Market. Here's what we tried:Ramp hummus made portable on pita with salad greens, tzatziki sauce, and the best feta crumble ever; and a West Virginia style hot dog made with a quarter pound beef hot dog, mustard, creamy slaw, and a bison chili. For real. Then, Kelsey tells the tale of a classic case from Iowa in the 70s, in which a gun trap was set to go off in an uninhabited structure (or inhabited if you agree there's ghosts) on the Briney property, which was triggered to hit Katko when he entered it.Also, the Creeps talk about odd birthdays, The Frighteners being a masterpiece, and leaving a clean plate. Matt cries about lack of biscuits, Kelsey tried ramps for the first time ever, seriously go look up what a ramp is, you don't want to live your whole life never trying one. Kelsey makes the Editor laugh with yet another D&D reference.
This Monday September 2nd we are releasing our commentary about Peter Jackson's hilariously entertaining The Frighteners! Michael J Fox is a national treasure. Listen to Shelley react in real time as she has never seen this move before! Rate and review on ITunes, find us across social media and say hi!
On this episode, continuing with August Down Under series and heading back to New Zealand to talk about Peter Jackson's 1996 horror comedy, The Frighteners. Frank Bannister, a local con man who can see and speak with ghosts, has to stop a malevolent specter that is killing both the living and dead. Spoiler free and I give a pretty small rant about letting go. Hold my hand if you get scared, ok? The artist on my podcast playlist is The Mutton Birds. In episode 30, Johnny talks to Academy Award-winning art director and production designer Grant Major. Described by Vanity Fair as ‘the architect of New Zealand's greatest cinematic achievements', Grant has an impressive body of work. His work in the early 1990s on Jane Campion's An Angel At My Table led him to work with Peter Jackson on Heavenly Creatures. He remained in the Peter Jackson fold on The Frighteners, followed by the Lord Of The Rings trilogy and King Kong. He also worked on Niki Caro's Whale Rider in the early 2000s, and recently reprised his collaboration with Jane Campion on the Oscar-nominated The Power Of The Dog. Grant has been nominated for five Academy Awards, winning the Oscar in 2003 for his work on The Return Of The King. Their talk covers Grant's career from working in New Zealand television in the 1970s and the BBC in the 1980s, to conquering Hollywood with Jane Campion and Peter Jackson throughout the 1990s and beyond. They discuss Grant's influences from filmmakers like David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick and Ray Harryhausen, and Grant shares what it's like to witness the first and only take of a devastatingly emotional Oscar-nominated acting performance! This conversation was recorded online in mid-July 2024. This week we close the Grimoire of Familiar Killers once again with The Lost Pages properly intact.
In this episode of TruthSeekah is joined by Dee Wallace as they discuss UFO's, Aliens, E.T.'s, Spirituality and Healing. When it comes to the subject of UFOs, and Aliens who better than to discuss these topics with than “Mary” (Elliott's mom) from Steven Spielberg's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial Dee Wallace? Over the years Dee Wallace has played in many alien and horror movies ranging from E.T., Critters, The Howling, The Hills Have Eyes, Cujo, Rob Zombie's Halloween, 3 From Hell, The House of the Devil, The Lords of Salem, The Lost, The Stepford Wives, Popcorn, The Frighteners and many more. I was surprised to find out that not only does Dee Wallace have a strong belief in UFO's and Aliens, but she also is a full time clairvoyant and energy healer. Dee works with clients on one on one helping them find true spiritual healing and working through emotional blockages. Dee travels the world speaking at conferences and hosting webinars offering her intuitive services. During the episode we talked about the duality behind a fascination with horror and healing as the two seem to be counterproductive together. Known as a “Scream-Queen” Dee sees the beauty and creativity in the horror genre that allows us to feel many different emotions watching movies in that genre. Dee says “People want to feel alive” and the horror genre allows us to do so. I also asked Dee about a conspiracy theory that I remembered hearing from some christian ufologist who said that Steven Spielberg has a collection of alien implants that were taken out of UFO abductees. Dee immediately shot down the notion calling it a conspiracy. We then went on to discuss the evil alien theories and agendas and talked about the fact that even the term abduction is something that seemed to die out in the 80's and 90's as most people refer to themselves as experiencers and contactees now.
