Today, on Karl and Crew, we wrapped up our weekly theme, “Best of 1 Peter.” Dr. Richard Blackaby joined us to explain how experiencing God begins with hearing His Word, responding in obedience, and building daily habits that lead to spiritual maturity. Dr. Blackaby is the President of Blackaby Ministries International and author of “Experiencing God in Everyday Life: A Journey Toward Spiritual Maturity.” We then had Dr. Andy Bannister join us to explain how believers can be prepared to share the hope of Christ with gentleness and respect, while listening well to those who believe differently. Dr. Bannister is the Director of Solas and the author of several books, including “How to Talk About Jesus Without Looking Like An Idiot.” We then opened up the phone lines to hear from our listeners. We posed the question, "Who did God use to help walk you into freedom in Christ?”You can hear the highlights of today’s program on the Karl and Crew Showcast. In Ilona Bannister's Five, five strangers wait on a train platform. One will die in the next five minutes but only one person knows: the reader. In Anthony Horowitz's A Deadly Episode, his real 2018 novel The Word is Murder becomes a fictional film adaptation with one problem: the actor playing the protagonist is dead. Today's episode features conversations on metafiction with both authors. First, Bannister talks to NPR's Ayesha Rascoe about writing a novel with a five-minute timespan. Then, Horowitz talks to NPR's Scott Simon about poking fun at true crime — with a novel about true crime. To listen to Book of the Day sponsor-free and support NPR's book coverage, sign up for Book of the Day+ at plus.npr.org/bookofthedaySee pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for sponsorship and to manage your podcast sponsorship preferences.NPR Privacy Policy

In this episode of The Road to Emmaus, Scott Hahn is joined by Jeremiah Bannister, host of The Paleocrat Diaries and author of the book She Danced Me a Story. Jeremiah shares his wild spiritual and theological journey, giving us an intimate glimpse into his return home into the arms of our heavenly Father. In their conversation, you'll discover: why Catholicism is the “irresistible conclusion” to the search for the “pure Church,” how a child's persistent questioning forced him to grapple with the question of God, and the real social, psychological, and emotional cost of becoming Catholic. Through Jeremiah's story, you'll see how God, in His providence, directs the story of your own life.

Motherland spin-off Amandaland is back for a second series, starring Lucy Punch as Amanda and Joanna Lumley as her frosty mum Felicity. Nuala McGovern talks to the show's award-winning writer and co-creator Holly Walsh about what's in store for the SoHa crew second time around, as Amanda navigates life as a single mum of teenagers, juggling online influencing and her ‘co-lab' with her dreams of moving up in the world. A review into the death of 21‑year‑old showjumper Katie Simpson has found 'institutional misogyny' and 'systemic failures' within the Police Service of Northern Ireland. The review, commissioned by the Department of Justice and released yesterday, found that not one officer seriously considered abuse or coercive control during the initial investigation. Katie died six days after being admitted to hospital in in 2020 and her death was initially treated as suicide. The PSNI has acknowledged the review and apologised to Katie's family. Nuala is joined by Allison Morris, Crime Correspondent at the Belfast Telegraph who's been following the case. What if the next five minutes were your last? That's the question the American born author Ilona Bannister wants us to answer in her latest novel Five. Set on a train station platform we meet five strangers: a child, a mother, a businessman, an old woman and a gambler. Unbeknownst to them they are facing a countdown where in just five minutes one of them will die. Ilona tells Nuala what drew her to this idea. A case in Denmark is prompting public debate and urgent questions about child protection practices and the treatment of Greenlandic people. The case centres on a Greenlandic mother, Keira Alexandra Kronvold, whose newborn daughter was taken into care just two hours after birth in 2024, following the use of controversial psychometric assessments known as FKU tests. Critics say these tests, conducted in Danish and based on culturally specific assumptions, have disproportionately led to Greenlandic children being removed from their families. Her case has now reached the Danish high court, with a decision due imminently, and now the United Nations has intervened. Joining Nuala to discuss are Miranda Bryant, the Guardian's Nordic correspondent, and Tillie Martinussen, a former MP in Greenland from the Cooperation Party.Presenter: Nuala McGovern Producer: Andrea Kidd

APR. 22, 2026Raise the bar."Jonathan..David's brother, killed him."2Sa 21:21 NIVAfter David killed Goliath, four other men, including his nephew Jonathan, killed giants that rose up against the Israelites. "In still another battle, which took place at Gath, there was a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot— twenty-four in all. He was also descended from Rapha. When he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of Shimeah, David's brother, killed him" (2Sa 21:20-21 NIV). David had raised the bar. Witnessing the defeat of what others had previously deemed impossible gave them the strength to overcome their own giants. Until 1954, no one had ever run a mile in under four minutes, and most people assumed it was virtually impossible. But on May 6, 1954, at an Oxford University track meet, Roger Bannister completed the distance in 3 minutes and 59.4 seconds. He had slain the giant. Two months later, Australian John Landy broke Bannister's record, proving that the four-minute mile was as much a psychological as a physical barrier. In the first half of the twentieth century, many people attempted to climb Mount Everest and failed. It was the unconquerable giant in the world of mountain climbers. On May 29, 1953, Edmund Hillary and his Sherpa guide, Tenzing Norgay, were the first humans to reach the summit. Since then, over seven thousand climbers, ranging from age thirteen to eighty, have completed the expedition. David, Bannister, and Hillary all conquered giants of their day and inspired others to match and excel in their feats. You do yourself and others a disservice when you run from your giant. You need to stop being afraid to tackle hard tasks and remind yourself, "If God did it before, He can do it again, and if He did it for others, He can do it for me."Raise the bar Stop being afraid.Share This DevotionalSend us Fan MailSupport the showChanging Lives | Building Strong Family | Impacting Our Community For Jesus Christ!

"I wonder what became of old Filthy Gladys?"This week we're talking about one of Spike Milligan's favourite Goon Shows from early 1956, and one whose script was originally published in the first Goon Show Scripts book. Young Ned Seagoon, driven by a driving ambition to become the world's greatest organ player, leaves his native Wales in order to pursue his musical studies in the Sahara. There, racing across the sands in the cockpit of his 50-ton brass-bound Wurlitzer, Ned meets unscrupulous villains Grytpype-Thynne and Moriarty, scrapdealers by appointment and purchasers of arms for Egypt. They have other plans for the Mighty Wurlitzer however, which leads Neddie to a hair-raising race on Daytona Beach against ace organ pilots Crun & Bannister, in a desperate attempt to beat the land speed record forWurlitzers. But it is a different record that poor Neddie breaks…Joining Tyler to talk cinema organs, land-speed records and Middle East tensions, not to mention Housewife's Choice, dying in Coventry and Sabrina's sweaters, is Stephen Hatcher. Steve is a regular on the Strangers In Space podcast.
During a ceremonial bill signing in Columbia on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, S.C. House Ways and Means Chairman Bruce Bannister emphasized that the state's new income tax reform ensures citizens "pay no more than is absolutely necessary". The legislation, H. 4216, simplifies the state tax code by collapsing brackets into a two-rate system: a 1.99% rate for income up to $30,000 and a 5.21% top rate for income above that threshold. Bannister highlighted that the plan not only provides immediate relief—with roughly 42.8% of taxpayers seeing a reduction in liability—but also sets a legal framework to automatically phase the state income tax down toward zero as revenue triggers are met in future years.
On the April 15, 2026, broadcast of The Charlie James Show, the first hour centered on the frustrations of Tax Day and the systemic flaws within the U.S. tax code. The program opened with a critique of the federal system's complexity before shifting to South Carolina, where Representative Bruce Bannister argued that the state's new tax code would ensure citizens pay no more than necessary. The discussion then highlighted a sharp divide in tax responsibility, noting that while 40% of Americans pay no federal income tax, the top 1% of earners shoulder 38.4% of the total burden. The hour concluded with a segment featuring WORD callers discussing local tax concerns and a controversial decision in Fairfax County, VA, to no longer recognize Veterans Day.
In the final hour, Mike Mulligan and David Haugh were joined by White Sox senior advisor to pitching Brian Bannister to share insight on 22-year-old left-hander Noah Schultz, who's set to make his MLB debut Tuesday evening. After that, Mully and Haugh reacted to their conversation with Bannister.

Today is the day before our Spring SHARE begins, and we spent time praising God's power in our lives. We asked callers, "What reminds you of what you've been saved from?" One of our guests included Jed Coppenger. He is the lead pastor of First Baptist Church in Cumming, Georgia. He is also a speaker and author. We highlighted his book, "Fake Christianity: 10 Traps of an Inauthentic Faith", as we discussed the influence of counterfeit gospels in our culture. Then, we had Dr. Andy Bannister join us to discuss how to know the absolute Truth and share that Truth with someone in a loving and gentle way when there are opposing ideas. Dr. Bannister is the Director of Solas, and he speaks and teaches regularly throughout the UK, Europe, Canada, the USA, and the wider world. He addresses audiences of Christians and people of all faiths, or none, on issues related to faith, culture, politics, and society. He also hosts 2 podcasts called PEP Talk and Pod of the Gaps. He also wrote several books, including “Have you Ever Wondred?" Finally, we invited Dr. Hormoz Shariat back for more updates on the situation in Iran. Dr. Shariat is the Founder and President of Iran Alive Ministries (IAM), which uses satellite broadcasting and the internet to reach Iranians with the gospel. Today, on Karl and Crew, we continued our weekly theme of “Who Am I” with discussions about having our identity rooted in Christ. When our identity aligns with Christ, it helps us answer the question “Am I enough?” And because of Jesus’s sacrifice, we know the answer is yes. Then we had Philip Miller join us to discuss further how to find our identity in Christ rather than in the world. Philip is the Senior Pastor of Moody Church in Chicago. He can also be heard on the weekly Moody Church Hour radio broadcast on over 700 stations nationwide. You can also listen to Pastor Philip on the daily program, Living Hope, at 11 am CT, across the Moody Network. Then, we had Dr. Andy Bannister join us to discuss how to share the truth with someone in a loving and gentle way when there are opposing ideas. Dr. Bannister is the Director of Solas, and he speaks and teaches regularly throughout the UK, Europe, Canada, the USA, and the wider world. He addresses audiences of both Christians and those of all faiths, or none, on issues relating to faith, culture, politics, and society. He also hosts 2 podcasts called PEP Talk and Pod of the Gaps. He also wrote several books, including “Have you Ever Wondred? Finding the Everyday Clue to Meaning, Purpose, and Spirituality”. Seeing others succeed can be a powerful source of inspiration. Once we know something is possible for others, then it also becomes possible for us. Take the sub-four-minute mile for example. At one point, it was thought impossible for a human to run a mile in less than four minutes and that pushing so hard would cause the runner's heart to explode. On May 6th, 1954 Roger Bannister was the first person to run a sub-four-minute mile. Less than six weeks later John Landy not only ran a sub-four-minute mile, he beat Bannister's time. Something went from being impossible, to being done, to having other people doing it. While it can be encouraging to see others enjoy success, sometimes that becomes a tool for us to beat ourselves up emotionally. We see that we are working as hard, if not harder, than others and yet we are not having success. This can lead us to question our effort, our ability, or whether success is even possible for us. Other people's success just highlights our own failure and we feel defeated rather than encouraged. This week in the podcast we tap for those times where we feel we have failed because we aren't having the same success as those we see around us. If you have ever felt like you are working as hard (if not harder) as the people around you and there must be something wrong with you because you are not getting the results you want, then this week's podcast was recorded just for you. In this forty-forth installment of fictional horror written and narrated by Dan Cummins, we head back to 1921, when sixteen year-old Tommy Calloway is discovered as the sole crew member aboard a shipwreck near North Carolina's Cape Fear Lighthouse. The story of what happened to the rest of the crew will strongly test the head keeper's skepticism of the supernatural... before it smashes it to pieces.
