Lauren Hartstone is a Creative Director and Partner at Sibling Rivalry, where she's spent the past decade mastering the art of fusing brand architecture with compelling storytelling. From creating iconic title sequences at Imaginary Forces to revolutionizing sports graphics, her journey reveals how creative fearlessness and systematic thinking can transform entire industries.Growing up with a market research executive father and artist mother, Lauren developed an understanding of both human behavior and visual expression. Her obsession with David Fincher's Se7en title sequence led her to Imaginary Forces for five transformative years. At Gretel, she experienced a humbling moment of having to step back and learn systematic branding. Becoming a mother of two fundamentally shifted her leadership approach—embracing merged work-life roles rather than separation. Now revolutionising sports graphics, Lauren's admission of knowing nothing about the sector became her greatest asset. Her philosophy centers on finding stories that already exist, working smarter as a leader, and maintaining excitement about possibility even after decades in the industry.Key moments: Merge branding with storytelling: The most powerful work happens when systematic brand thinking meets emotional narrative craft—they're not separate disciplines but symbiotic forces that strengthen each otherThe story is usually already there: Stop searching for manufactured insights and bigger concepts outside—the most authentic and resonant stories often exist within the brand, the people, or the culture you're trying to representStrategic fearlessness beats safe permanence: Brands hold back from bold creative choices because they fear permanence, but campaigns are ephemeral—there's more power in being willing to take expressive risks that can evolve over timeFresh perspective is your superpower: Not knowing a sector intimately isn't a weakness—it's an opportunity to bring new eyes, question conventions, and offer what you do best without being constrained by industry dogmaLeadership shifts from hours to impact: As you grow into creative leadership, especially as a parent, your value transforms from volume and hours worked to vision, clarity, and the ability to work smarter and fasterKeep work and life merged, not separated: The stress of maintaining rigid boundaries between creative passion and family responsibilities can be replaced by flexible integration—showing your children what creative work looks like teaches possibilityStay excited about where things could go: After decades in the industry, maintaining genuine enthusiasm for "there's so many places this could go" at the start of each project keeps creativity alive and prevents complacencyFind where you feel your best self: Long-term creative fulfilment requires finding the team, the environment, and the work that allows you to stretch, learn, feel confident, and be authentically yourself. Degens Andy S and Brandon Bombay embrace the seven deadly sins even more than usual as they talk about one of the greatest crime thrillers of all-time, 'Seven.' The movie takes place in an unnamed rainy city, and it makes Andy recall a rainstorm that led to a fight while on vacation. Then the fellas discuss the movie that announced David Fincher's true arrival, and just how gnarly the film is for a mainstream movie. Featuring a wonderful steady performance from Morgan Freeman, and a role from Brad Pitt that helped him shake his himbo label. The flick is so good it even has Gwyneth Paltrow back when she was lovable, as her relationship with Pitt's Mills is the catalyst for one of the most nihilistic endings in a '90s studio film. This flick kicks off with a Nine Inch Nails intro, and closes with a heartbreaking twist that leaves everyone, even the viewers, filled with wrath.

The history books will tell you that World War II ended on September 2, 1945. The filmmaker James Vanderbilt, however, will tell there was still one last battle left to fight as the conflict officially drew to a close. It was a battle to be fought not in the trenches but in a court room, with the eyes of the world watching and the stakes were impossibly high. The Nazi party of Germany had been stopped, with the surviving members of their high command arrested. But it wasn't enough to simply shoot them behind closed doors. They had to be brought to trial and held publicly accountable for the unthinkable horrors of the Holocaust – the entire planet made aware of the systematic cruelty they'd inflicted. Giving these charismatic monsters a chance to excuse their actions in front of the global media, though, ran the risk of giving their ideology a chance to spread. Get this wrong and in fifteen years, the Nazis might come back stronger than before, some on the prosecution worried. It's this terrifying prospect that propels James' new historical drama, Nuremberg, starring Russell Crowe and Rami Malek, delving into the legal saga that followed the supposed war to end all wars.Today on the show – a spoiler conversation about Nuremberg in which James and I break down the need to tell this story at this moment in time, as the number of people who lived through the Holocaust dwindles. We talk about the throughline between this film and 2007's Zodiac, written by James and directed by David Fincher, which James came on Script Apart to discuss in 2020. You'll hear about how Silence Of The Lambs became an unlikely roadmap for this wartime epic. And we also get into why the movie ultimately arrives at the message that the barbaric tendencies of Hitler and acolytes weren't unique to the Nazi psyche; fascism and authoritarianism could happen – and perhaps is happening – right underneath our noses today.Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. On Episode 142 of The Film ‘89 Podcast, Neil, Skye and regular co-host, Jacob Rivera are celebrating the 30th anniversary of an all time classic from 1995, David Fincher's serial killer thriller, Seven, starring Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kevin Spacey. Based on an original screenplay by Andrew Kevin Walker, Seven would go on to become one of the most successful films of 1995, a year replete with incredible films and this one in particular, is now considered a genre defining classic, notorious for it's bleak tone and THAT gut-punch ending. Featuring phenomenal performances from its leads, stunning cinematography, a wonderfully atmospheric score, and the very epitome of assured, precise direction from Fincher, Seven is surely one of the greatest films of all time and one worthy of the deluxe Film '89 treatment.
In this episode of Shelf Life, Kevin and Rachel solve the clues to find a serial killer again with David Fincher's Se7en. A movie where a serial killer tries to get all performance artsy using the seven deadly sins.Discussions in this episode include Cliff's notes usage, private libraries, proper drinkware, and which sin is best encapsulated in each Seinfeld character. Justin Timberlake BioSnap a weekly updated Biography. In the last several days Justin Timberlake has closed an epic chapter and faced a deeply personal battle. He ended his two-year Forget Tomorrow World Tour with a final show in Istanbul on July 30 capping off a sprawling run that at times drew both acclaim and controversy. Just days later Timberlake stunned fans by revealing on Instagram that he has been battling Lyme disease—a diagnosis he called “relentlessly debilitating both mentally and physically.” He explained that this struggle gave him clarity about the pain and fatigue he felt onstage but ultimately he chose not to cancel the tour finding strength in the joy performing brings. Timberlake even posted a lighthearted photo at home after the tour flashing a cheeky smile in a sweatshirt that read “I'm not doing s star today mission accomplished” capturing both relief and resilience. His NSYNC bandmate Chris Kirkpatrick publicly praised his strength saying Timberlake's grit and determination through illness was “superhero status” according to AOL Entertainment. His tour finale was not without criticism. Social media buzzed after viral clips showed Timberlake letting crowds sing entire choruses with some on X questioning his energy and vocals others defending it as a universal move for big acts and a way to engage fans. Debate intensified as rumors swirled that tension has grown between Timberlake and his wife Jessica Biel especially after her Emmy campaign for The Better Sister ended without a nomination and he was notably absent. Star Magazine sources speculated their marriage may be at a crossroads and close friends are concerned about their future but these remain unconfirmed. On the business front Timberlake keeps forging ahead. Austin Business Journal reports he is teaming up again with restaurateur Sam Fox to expand The Twelve Thirty Club to a new Austin location reinforcing his standing as a serious entrepreneur outside music. There is also fresh focus on his legacy with Recognition Music Group's ongoing restructuring following the sale of Hipgnosis's US music publishing arm to Sony in June and his own song catalog—sold to Hipgnosis in 2022—now grouped under this mega music rights entity as chronicled on the Wikipedia entry for Recognition Music Group.Career-wise Timberlake is reportedly eager to reignite his acting prospects. Reality Tea cites sources saying he's reaching out to past collaborators like David Fincher and Mila Kunis hoping for a Hollywood comeback after years without a blockbuster hit. Insiders say he's determined to land a major studio vehicle rather than rebuilding with indie or supporting roles.Social media remains lively with fresh clips surfacing across platforms—recent YouTube Shorts featured both his collaborations with Madonna and 50 Cent revisiting past chart-toppers when fans celebrated his career highs. All told Timberlake's last few days have been a potent mix of professional closure personal vulnerability and hints at a new chapter on stage screen and in business.Get the best deals https://amzn.to/3ODvOtaThis content was created in partnership and with the help of Artificial Intelligence AI
Corey Fogelmanis' first big break came as the fan-favorite Farkle on the Disney Channel series "Girl Meets World." He later appeared alongside Octavia Spencer in the psychological thriller "Ma," and in Netflix's hit series "My Life with the Walter Boys." Now his first lead performance as Ben, a teen who comes out as non-binary, in the refreshingly modern coming-of-age movie "I Wish You All the Best," has already garnered glowing early reviews. On this episode, he talks about the "very aligned process" of working with director Tommy Dorfman, how music helps him prepare, learning the difference between naturalism and truthfulness, the difficulties of shaking off old childhood sit-com methods, and much more! Plus he just got done acting in the sequel to "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," helmed by David Fincher, so he gives us a slight peak into that production! "I Wish You All The Best" opens in select theaters on Friday November 7th. Back To One is the in-depth, no-nonsense, actors-on-acting podcast from Filmmaker Magazine. In each episode, host Peter Rinaldi invites one working actor to do a deep dive into their unique process, psychology, and approach to the craft. Follow Back To One on Instagram
Justin Timberlake BioSnap a weekly updated Biography.Justin Timberlake is once again in the spotlight and not just for his music. As the European leg of his Forget Tomorrow World Tour ramps up, with a scheduled performance at Manchester's Co-op Live arena on November 8, fans are flocking for remaining tickets. The show boasts a setlist loaded with nearly thirty hits, including Cry Me a River, SexyBack, and Mirrors, and the venue is throwing an official Noughties afterparty to keep the nostalgia alive. Timberlake's ability to electrify the stage remains unrivaled, cementing his place as one of pop's enduring titans after more than two decades leading NSYNC and his own multiplatinum solo career.Away from the stage, Timberlake is making business moves. The acclaimed Twelve Thirty Club restaurant, launched with restaurateur Sam Fox in Nashville, is expanding to Austin in early 2026, landing a prime spot in the city's bustling downtown, as confirmed by the Austin Business Journal and MySA. His ventures have always blurred the lines between music, film, and hospitality, signaling Timberlake's ongoing relevance not just as an entertainer but as a brand. But behind the scenes, Timberlake is reportedly focused on healing and introspection. According to AOL, he is taking a temporary break from certain industry commitments to prioritize his personal health. This follows a period of career turbulence in Hollywood, with sources telling Star and Reality Tea that Timberlake is “desperate to revive” his acting trajectory after cooling off since Palmer. Rather than taking humbler roles, Timberlake is said to be “thinking big,” reaching out to some major former collaborators like David Fincher and Mila Kunis as he aims to recapture blockbuster success. Insiders warn though, the road back won't be easy—audiences will demand compelling performances, not just nostalgia.Socially, Timberlake made quiet headlines on Globe for expressing continued support and sympathy for Britney Spears, as her struggles and family drama remain tabloid fodder. While not a direct public appearance, this show of solidarity is seen by some as a meaningful gesture given their shared pop history.Meanwhile, Timberlake's legacy and influence are celebrated everywhere—from upcoming candlelight tribute concerts in Tampa honoring his catalog, to viral TikTok and YouTube shorts resurfacing his classics like SexyBack and Holy Grail, to a new audio biography episode streaming this week. For all the speculation on where Timberlake goes from here, his position in the pop culture pantheon seems secure. Whether rebounding in film, branching into businesses, or returning to the stage, Timberlake remains a headline—one seemingly determined to remind everyone he's still somebody worth watching.Get the best deals https://amzn.to/3ODvOtaThis content was created in partnership and with the help of Artificial Intelligence AI

This week, we find ourselves in October. And you know what that means? Scary films! Week three brings us back to the director who gave us Seven and Gone Girl (both on the top 250). More of a thriller/crime procedural, this film nonetheless has at least one of the scariest scenes ever put to film. Zodiac (2007), directed by David Fincher.

We're talking one company buys another company with Warner Brothers officially up for sale, the low low price that the James Bond rights sold for and Bob Iger stepping in to stop a Star Wars Kylo Ren solo movie at Disney. Plus we talk Batman and Darkseid updates in the DCU, a Transformers/GI: Joe animated series in the style of Invincible, Gev V Season 2 and more! Today, I'm joined by two-time Oscar-nominated cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth.Jeff joins me to talk about his work on Tron: Ares, which is now in theaters. He also shot Amazon's Being the Ricardos for director Aaron Sorkin, starring Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem. Kidman was so impressed with Jeff's work that she later asked him to shoot her now-famous AMC Theatres commercial. We also dive into his long-running collaboration with David Fincher on films like Fight Club, The Social Network, and Gone Girl. Plus, Jeff gives us a glimpse into his latest project — the just-begun follow-up to The Social Network, titled The Social Reckoning. Aaron Sorkin is not only writing but also directing this one, with a stellar cast that includes Jeremy Allen White, Mikey Madison, Jeremy Strong, Betty Gilpin, and Bill Burr. When I first heard about The Social Reckoning, my initial reaction was, “Why on earth would they make that?” But the more I've thought about it, the more I've realized it's an essential story — a vital piece of modern history that deserves to be explored and cemented in the public consciousness.Today's episode of the Following Films Podcast is brought to you by Google Workspace. MONSTER PARTY REVISITS THE ERA OF ROLLERBLADING, BEANIE BABIES, THE MACARENA… AND TERROR!!!! JAMES GONIS, SHAWN SHERIDAN, LARRY STROTHE, and MATT WEINHOLD honor the last part of a decade that brought us so many seminal films. If you thought our previous '90s HORROR episode was “da bomb,” you're guaranteed to go nuclear when you hear… '90s HORROR VOL. 2!!! The 1990s were an exciting and innovative time for horror films, with the latter half of the decade boasting some downright game-changers. With THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, we saw the explosion of the found footage genre that is still popular to this day, and the Japanese showed us the dangers of sitting too close to the TV with RINGU! If that didn't change your horror movie game enough, David Fincher gave us the ultimate worst-case mystery box scenario in SEVEN, Wes Craven made horror meta with SCREAM, and M. Night Shyamalan peaked early with THE SIXTH SENSE. But we're not even close to this episode's EVENT HORIZON! We'll also look at a creepy ice cream vendor (aren't they all?), a castle freak, some self-improvement cannibals, a Rubik's Cube of death, an evil genie, Chucky's better half, a Hardrock Cafe for vampires, and so much more! Too bad all of it was lost in the devastation caused by Y2K. Joining us for this second dose of '90s chills is an award-winning friend of the show, and really, the only guest for this subject. He was the editor in chief of the legendary FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND magazine, the genius behind the blog, IT CAME FROM..., the writer/director/producer of the IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS longform documentary series, as well as the '80s sci-fi documentary IN SEARCH OF TOMORROW. His latest project is the shockingly episode appropriate mega doc, IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS: 1995-1999! Honestly, what were the odds?! Please welcome back the always scintillating… DAVID WEINER!! '90 HORROR LIVES! AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, TALK TO THE SEVERED HAND!

FearDotCom (2002) was chosen by supporter Mike, and it stands as one of the more infamous entries in early-2000s horror cinema. Directed by William Malone, the film attempted to ride the wave of techno-horror thrillers that followed in the wake of The Ring and other Y2K-era internet scare stories. Produced on a budget of around $40 million and shot in Luxembourg to cut costs, the film leaned heavily into dark, industrial set design and unsettling visual effects. Its creative team aimed to blend supernatural horror with the growing unease surrounding online culture and the dangers lurking in the digital world.Unfortunately, what ended up on screen was a messy, incoherent slog that quickly earned a reputation as one of the worst horror films of its decade. Critics tore into its lack of story, overreliance on cheap shock tactics, and shameless recycling of ideas from better movies. Rather than building a cult following, FearDotCom has largely been remembered as an embarrassing misfire — a reminder that big budgets and flashy visuals can't save a film when the script is dead on arrival.Check out Mike's channels for Genuine Chit Chat and Star Wars Chit Chat.If you enjoy the show, we have a Patreon, so become a supporter here.Referral links also help out the show if you were going to sign up:NordVPNNordPassTrailer Guy Plot SummaryA mysterious website, a string of gruesome deaths, and a detective racing against time — FearDotCom! When people log on, they don't just surf the web… they sign their own death warrant. Now, with only 48 hours to crack the case, the question isn't who's behind the killings… but whether anyone can survive clicking the wrong link.Fun FactsFearDotCom was filmed almost entirely in Luxembourg, making it one of the most expensive movies ever shot there at the time. The movie had a budget of around $40 million, but grossed less than $20 million worldwide, marking it as a huge box office flop.Director William Malone previously worked on another horror movie, House on Haunted Hill (1999), before tackling FearDotCom.The film holds a rare 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, cementing its reputation as one of the worst-reviewed horror movies ever made.Screenwriter Josephine Coyle came up with the concept after being inspired by fears of the internet in the late 1990s.The movie's cinematography leaned heavily on shadows and industrial set design, inspired by German expressionism and the works of David Fincher.Critics often compared it unfavorably to The Ring, which was released just months later in 2002.FearDotCom was one of the last major horror films to receive a wide theatrical release before studios shifted many similar “dot com” thrillers to direct-to-DVD.Despite its failure, the film has developed a small following of horror fans who admire its eerie visual style, if not its storytelling.Stephen Dorff, the film's lead actor, admitted in later interviews that he felt the script was weak but took the role because of the big production budget and studio backing.thevhsstrikesback@gmail.comhttps://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback
As die-hard cinephiles, we all have those legendary films that somehow slipped under our radar. This week, we're finally tackling some of our biggest blind spots. Join your hosts as we review a trio of iconic, must-see movies we definitely should have seen by now—but somehow hadn't. Dwight sat down with Goodfellas (1990), Martin Scorsese's mafia masterpiece. Swain checked out Fight Club (1999), David Fincher's gritty, genre-defining thriller. And Adrian took on Magnolia (1999), Paul Thomas Anderson's sprawling ensemble drama. In the conversation, we dive into each film's standout cast (and where they went next), reflect on how these movies were received when they premiered, and ask the big question: do they actually live up to the hype? (With just a bit of healthy scrutiny, of course.) To wrap things up, each of us recommends a must-see film we think deserves more love. Tune in for fresh insights, surprising takes, and maybe even a few overlooked classics to add to your watchlist.
