Several weeks into production of "Back to the Future," screenwriter Bob Gale and director Robert Zemeckis had a huge problem: Eric Stoltz was not giving them the performance their Spielberg backed film desperately needed. Enter budding star Michael J. Fox, the actor they wanted from the beginning. Literally working around the clock, Fox spent his days portraying television's Alex P. Keaton and his nights as time traveling teen Marty McFly. It would quickly become the role of a lifetime. With the beloved classic turning 40, David O'Sullivan joins Dennis - and Nick Malone guests hosts - as our little podcast celebrates its 50th episode. This is heavy. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Flying cars have been a staple of science-fiction visions of the future for ages. Perhaps most famously in “Back to the Future II.” The film may have overshot the mark a bit with Doc and Marty McFly navigating full-on air highways in 2015. But Utah is pushing for the technology to take off by 2034, when the state hosts the Olympic and paralympic winter games. We're not exactly talking about flying Delorians or vehicles you'd recognize as a car, but rather small, lightweight aircraft for traveling shorter distances. Reporter Caroline Ballard got a first look at the air taxis.

Eurem Wunsch entsprechend wird Lucas nochmal genauer nachgreifhaken, wie es genau ablief, als Franky went to Holiday, but not to Hollywood.

Before being known as one of the greatest guitarists of modern times - John Clayton Mayer was just a kid from Connecticut who was obsessed with three things: Canadian Actor Michael J. Fox in his Iconic role as Marty McFly in the 80s sci-fi adventure romp Back To The Future. The Blues. And of course - the instrument that tied those other two obsessions together - The Guitar. And, by the way - I don’t use the word obsession lightly - According to John, this wasn’t your run-of-the-mill relationship with the instrument that many a teenage boy find themselves enamoured with - John was so single minded with becoming a guitar virtuoso his parents actually took him to be psychologically evaluated over his commitment to guitar playing - it was the only thing he ever wanted to do - like… ever. After high school, John Mayer had hoped to skip college completely to become a full time independent musician - but he was convinced by his parents to seek further education, and enrolled in the lauded Berklee College of Music at age 19. At Berklee, Mayer met eventual Zac Brown Band musician Clay Cook, who swiftly convinced him to… Drop out of Berklee after only two semesters. By 1999, John would package up his 9 best songs for his debut EP Inside Wants Out as a companion record to all of his touring - and by the year 2000 - with the help of a lawyer, he would sign with small label Aware Records, who would fund the original recording of an internet-only release of his debut record Room For Squares. Although it was originally a bit of a slow-burner, Room For Squares would spend 95 weeks on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, eventually going platinum off of the successes of No Such Thing and Grammy-Award Winning Follow up single ‘Your Body is A Wonderland'. Just like Room For Squares before it, Mayer’s virtuosity in both guitar playing and songwriting got him over the line with discerning pop music fans; his followup, Heavier Things would debut at Number One on the Billboard 200 - and with the success of single 'Daughters', would beat Squares’ 95 week run with a 98 week sprint on the chart. But, after three big hits that launched him into the ‘sensitive songwriter guy’ stratosphere, John Mayer was ready to break the space-time Continuum. This is the story of John Mayer's Waiting on the World to Change, with newly unearthed audio from John Mayer himself.
Unsere Gefühle, unsere Emotionen zu diesem Meisterwerk von Robert Zemeckis und Bob Gale! Viel Spaß!
“This is Heavy, Doc.” In the movie, “Back to the Future,” made in 1985, this is the catchphrase of Marty Mcfly. When Marty says, “This is heavy” he means that something is awesome and beyond understanding. With a movie about time travel, it happens a lot. But I believe I found the word that Marty Mcfly would have used, had he spoke Hebrew: “Kavod.” Kavod means glory, but it's related to the word for heavy, or weightiness. In short, the “Kavod” is the glorious presence and radiance of God, which should inspire reverence, awe, and honor in us. If Marty travelled back in time to see the Tabernacle, or the Temple, which had the ark of the covenant, I'm pretty sure he would say, “This is heavy, Doc.” This will be our guide word this morning in our exploring of the Scriptures. And the "Kavod," the heaviness and weightiness of God's glory, should inspire us to have more reverence and awe for God's majesty. And why are we looking into this word? Because contempt for the Lord leads to judgment, but honor for the Lord leads to shalom and life.

Step into the DeLorean with hosts Krissy Lenz and Nathan Blackwell as they revisit the mind-bending 1989 sequel Back to the Future Part II. This zany time-traveling adventure pushes Marty McFly and Doc Brown to their limits as they navigate multiple timelines, alternate realities, and a dystopian version of Hill Valley ruled by the villainous Biff Tannen. The hosts dive deep into how Back to the Future Part II differs from its predecessor, noting its darker tone and more complex narrative structure. They explore how the film effectively splits into three distinct sections: the retro-futuristic 2015 sequence, the nightmarish alternate 1985, and the return to 1955 that cleverly interweaves with events from the first film. Nathan shares his initial disappointment with the sequel upon its 1989 release, while Krissy maintains her longtime love for its imaginative storytelling.Special praise is given to the performances, particularly Thomas F. Wilson's versatility in playing multiple versions of Biff Tannen and Lea Thompson's range as various incarnations of Lorraine. The hosts also discuss how the film introduced many viewers to concepts like the multiverse and alternate timelines through Doc Brown's simple yet effective explanation of the space-time continuum.Other topics covered:The film's prescient portrayal of Biff as a Trump-like figure in the alternate 1985The extensive merchandising campaign, including Pizza Hut's promotional sunglassesChristopher Lloyd's ageless performance as Doc BrownHow the film serves as part one of a larger story concluding in Back to the Future Part IIIThe practical effects and set design used to transform Hill Valley across different time periodsThe controversial addition of Marty's "chicken" character flawThe enduring appeal of the film's retro-futuristic 2015 aestheticThe Universal Studios clock tower set and its various iterationsWhile rating the film, Nathan gives it a 7.5 out of 10 sports almanacs, noting how his appreciation has grown over time, while Krissy awards it a solid 9, placing it just below the perfect 10s she gives to parts one and three. The hosts conclude that while Part II may be the most divisive entry in the trilogy, its ambitious storytelling and creative world-building have helped it age into a unique and essential chapter in the Back to the Future saga. --We couldn't do this without your support of The Most Excellent 80s Movies Podcast! The woman behind the brand that revolutionised the way the world shopped and dressed. Simon Jack and Zing Tsjeng follow Doris Fisher and The Gap's rollercoaster story, from its birth in the summer of love selling Levi's jeans, to crashing out of fashion, then rising to dominate the 1990s. Then they decide if they think Doris Fisher's good, bad, or just another billionaire.

Great Scott! We're traveling back to 1985 to review the story of known slacker Marty McFly - who has to unite his parents, save his best friend, and find his way back to his own time! Talk about nostalgic!
Marty McFly went back in time to this day in 1955.
Happy Halloween, Slackers!Remember those hard plastic masks, with edges sharp enough to cut you, while completely obstructing your vision and breathing?! Perfect for a nighttime activity like trick or treating! Were you ever a Princess Leia, ET, Indiana Jones, or Michael Myers? What about Elvis, Michael Jackson, or Madonna? On this week's episode we break down the most popular costumes of the late 60's through the 90's. It is really a reflection of what was in the news, in the movie theaters, and on the radio. Politicans, movie heroes, pop stars, and strange characters all got some attention on All Hallows' Eve.Whether the costumes were store bought or homemade, Halloween was (almost) always a fun night. I mean, free candy while dressed in disguise - what more could a kid ask for? Then many of us have had the opportunity to watch our own kids experience that same sense of excitment while getting dressed up to hit the town to ask strangers for candy.Always one of my favorite holidays. It's an absolutely crazy concept, but an awful lot of fun in practice.

Today I am chatting with author Nancy McCabe about her debut YA novel, Vaulting Through Time, a story that follows a teen gymnast as she travels through time to learn about her family and discover who she is. Take a listen as Nancy and I chat about her writing style, what it's like being a gymnastics mom, the rules of time travel (we need Marty McFly!), the research that needs to be done for a book that spans multiple decades, adoption, character development, the Olympics, this creative story, and more! The entire episode is spoiler free! A little about Vaulting Through Time: Sixteen-year-old gymnast Elizabeth Arlington doesn't care that her mother is older than the other girls' moms or that she doesn't look anything like her parents. She has too much other stuff to worry about: an embarrassing crush on her ex-best-friend Zach, and changes in her body that affect her center of gravity and make vaulting and tumbling more terrifying than they used to be. But when she makes a discovery that throws her entire identity into question, she turns to Zach, who suggests a way for her to find the answers her mother won't give her: a time machine they found in an abandoned house. As Elizabeth catapults through time, she encounters a mysterious abandoned child, an elite gymnast preparing for Olympic Trials, and an enigmatic woman who seems to know more than she's revealing. Then when a thief makes off with an identical time machine, Elizabeth finds herself on a race to stop the thief before the world as she knows it—and her own future—are destroyed.A special thank you to Nancy McCabe for coming on the podcast and chatting with me. And a special thank you to Simone Jung at Books Forward PR for setting up the interview. Today, my guest is a prolific cinematographer, accomplished photographer, and member of the American Society of Cinematographers, Dean Cundey A.S.C.Dean rose to fame for extraordinary cinematography in the 1980s and 1990s. His early start was working on the set of Halloween. Dean is credited as director of photography on five Back To The Future films and Jurassic Park. The Halloween slasher franchise consisted of eleven films and was initially released in 1978. The films primarily focus on Michael Myers, who was committed to a sanitarium as a child for the murder of his sister, Judith Myers. Fifteen years later, he escapes to stalk and kill the people of the fictional town of Haddonfield, Illinois. Michael's killings occur on the holiday of Halloween, on which all of the films primarily take place. The second film, one of which Cundey served as director of photography, was based on Marty McFly, who had only just gotten back from the past when he is once again picked up by Dr. Emmett Brown and sent through time to the future. Marty's job in the future is to pose as his son to prevent him from being thrown in prison. Unfortunately, things get worse when the future changes the present. The three Back To The Future films Dean worked on grossed $388.8, $336, and $243 million globally, becoming all-time hits on budgets of $19, $40, and $40 million.Cundey is cited as being amongst some of the best directors of photography. In addition to his lighting skills, particularly in the famous hallway scene where the hidden face of Michael Myers, played by writer/director Nick Castle, is slowly revealed by way of a blue light next to the mask, he was among the first cinematographers to make use of a recent invention called the Steadicam, or paraglide. Some other shows and movies he's worked on include, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Tales of the Unexpected, Romancing the Stone, Invitation To Hell, Big Trouble in Little China, etc.Who Framed Roger Rabbit; A toon-hating detective is a cartoon rabbit's only hoping to prove his innocence when he is accused of murder. Basically, 'Toon star Roger is worried that his wife Jessica is playing pattycake with someone else, so the studio hires detective Eddie Valiant to snoop on her. But the stakes are quickly raised when Marvin Acme is found dead, and Roger is the prime suspect. Groundbreaking interaction between the live and animated characters, and lots of references to classic animation.Dean grew up an avid reader of the American Cinematographer magazines he would buy after school from a local camera shop close by. That was how his inspiration to pursue filmmaking came about. He shifted his focus to theater history while still taking some architectural design classes at California State University before he ultimately enrolled at the University of California Los Angeles film school. In 1993 Jurassic Park, Dean made a minor appearance as a boat crew member (Mate) while also staffed as director of photography. The film follows a pragmatic paleontologist visiting an almost complete theme park tasked with protecting a couple of kids after a power failure causes the park's cloned dinosaurs to run loose. Huge advancements in scientific technology have enabled a mogul to create an island full of living dinosaurs.A park employee attempts to steal dinosaur embryos, critical security systems are shut down, and it now becomes a race for survival with dinosaurs roaming freely over the island.Cundey holds over one hundred and fifty cinematography & photography credits for movies, television, and short films. That is no small feat in this business. The man has stayed busy and booked since graduation from film school. That kind of consistency in Hollywood is only doable by having extreme persistence and excellence. One of the many things he did to stay prepared and on top of his craft was investing into building himself a ‘super van' or one couple call it a cinematographer's heaven that contained every equipment (cameras, editing's tools, etc.) required to help him get work get and do work easily. We talk more about Dean joining The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian crew as well. Check it all out in our chat.Enjoy my conversation with Dean Cundey.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bulletproof-screenwriting-podcast--2881148/support.
Great Scott, it's been 35 years since the second instalment in one of the most beloved trilogies of all time – Back To The Future Part II, directed by the great Robert Zemeckis and co-written by our guest today, Bob Gale! Bob first guested on Script Apart in 2021, breaking down his first draft of 1985's iconic debut outing for Marty McFly and eccentric scientist Doc Brown. You may remember that episode detailing how Bob's original vision for that film was quite wildly different – Doc Brown had a pet chimp and the movie featured a huge nuclear explosion. Part II similarly went through multiple iterations, with the film initially expected to include a third act set in the 1960s. Instead, Bob landed on a story full of darkness that broke from the optimism of the first film to depict a dark future – one that in many ways, we've actually come to inherit. In the conversation you're about to hear, you'll discover what drew Bob to that darkness, the secret to Back To The Future's longevity and which of Part II's predictions he's surprised have come to pass in real life. Thanks to Bob for being a brilliant guest once again. Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. Maverick, and his co-hosts Avalon and Andrew review the 1985 release of Back to the Future. The hosts discuss the introduction of the film and the character of Marty McFly. They explore the flaws and relatability of Marty, noting his hot-headedness and fear of failure. They also discuss the mirroring of Marty and his father, George McFly, in terms of their character arcs and motivations. The hosts have differing opinions on the depth and relatability of Marty as a character. They also briefly touch on the introduction of the conflict and the relationship between Marty and Doc Brown. Marty McFly's character arc revolves around his efforts to save his parents' relationship and ensure his own existence. He is under pressure to fix the past while also trying to navigate his own feelings and desires. Throughout the movie, Marty's perception of his parents changes, and he becomes more empathetic towards them. His transformation is compelling, although some aspects of his character may be seen as stock. Marty's flaws and internal dialogue add depth to his character, and his determination to be different from his father drives his actions. Back to the Future is a nostalgic and impactful film that has had a lasting legacy. It set a standard for time travel stories and continues to be relatable and enjoyable today. The film explores themes of family, identity, and the fear of failure. The plot is well-paced and keeps the audience engaged. Overall, Back to the Future is a classic film that has stood the test of time.-Highlights:0:00 'Back to the Future' Introduction4:39 Initial Impressions and Ratings6:39 The Introduction of the Film and Marty McFly16:19 Maverick's Attacks Marty's Character Arc23:05 Themes of Time Travel26:00 Marty's Efforts to Save His Parents' Relationship34:13 Andrew Defends Marty's Character Arc59:46 Does Lorraine Have a Character Arc?1:07:33 George McFly's Character Growth1:13:34 Doctor Emmett Brown1:19:23 Time, Marty, or Biff: Who's the Enemy?1:25:19 The Lasting Impact of Back to the Future-Show Notes:9 Points Rating System: https://www.alostplot.com/9-points/ #backtothefuture #martymcfly #georgemcfly #heymcfly #delorean #alostplot #doc #heydoc #emmettbrown #1985

Claudia Wells steps Behind The Rope. Best know for her role as Marty McFly's girlfriend, “Jennifer Parker” in the 80s Classic “Back To The Future”, Claudia is here to tell it all. She chats about how she was cast - yes it involved a once in a lifetime audition with the one and only Steven Spielberg, chats about how Eric Stoltz was the “original” Marty McFly, how one day Eric Stoltz was out, how another day Mr. Alex Keaton, legend Michael J. Fox was in. Claudia chats about what it was like to work with Michael J. Fox back in the day, their relationship throughout the years and the status of that relationship today. On a more serious note, we chat about her, and the industries, reaction to Michael's announcement many years ago that he was a working actor, and a damn good one at that, living with Parkinson's Disease. Claudia shares Hollywood stories of who she knows, has had runs ins with, both good and bad, and how the industry has changed throughout the years. Of course, all roads lead back to Housewives, we chat about the Reality TV she watches and what she thinks about the current crop of Real Housewives. Living in LA, that involves The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, LVP, Erika Jayne and Tom Girardi. We figured today a great day to share this chat with the one and only Claudia Wells. @claudia wells @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS & AD FREE EPISODES Available at - www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope BROUGHT TO YOU BY: LOLAVIE - lolavie.com/VELVET (Use Code Velvet For 15% Off Jennifer Aniston's Award Winning Hair Care) ASTEPRO - asteproallergy.com (Get Fast Acting Nasal Allergy Symptom Relief with Astepro.
