Jonny is a filmmaker and Si is a 3D graphic artist. We are two brothers who love films. If you do as well, maybe you‘ll enjoy listening to us discuss movies, good and bad, while we relive our childhoods, deconstruct them and go off on tangents. Be advised, this podcast contains strong language, including sexual swearwords.
It's time for another to be soon forgotten episode of What We've Seen, where Si and Jonny literally just list a bunch of things they've watched lately...only this time...there's video! Amid yells of "Piper NEEEOOOOWWW!" and demands for Lorazepam, we take you on a journey through new movies, old movies and tv shows that we think are - quote - "good". Enjoy! In an unprecedented move by the WOSN team, we now have video! HEAD OVER TO YOUTUBE OR SPOTIFY TO VIEW THIS EPISODE! VISUALLY! A talking picture! Look, we know you're not really pleased to see us, so let us all stop pretending shall we? At the very least, the rest of you will certainly think twice before going on YouTube... This episode (it's folly to keep saying "this week". It's just a lie) we're talking about a WOSN favourite - it's not just any movie, dammit! It's The Mask of Zorro! So put your feet up on a loved one's back while they do pushups over lit candles, go and shave that unruly beard for some "chaaaarrrrmm", be very very careful when engaging in Zorro-inspired sex games with your significant other (swords are sharp, guys... nighties can be replaced, nipples can't) and listen to us prattle on and spew in-jokes like we're in on it and you're not. It's ok, you're not imagining it... Also, if you're about to listen and you have small children - GET THE CHILDREN OUT OF THE ROOM IMMEDIATELY! Welcome back, Wosnites! It's Jaycega and Esjega (figure it out once you listen to Trivia Corner) back once again with another show-stopping offering that totally defies gravity. Yes, this episode is either going to be our most pop-uhoo-lar or it'll be met with unadulterated loathing. But I say, let it go, just kick back and listen to our dulcet tones and let us wash over you, don't question it (life's fraughtless when you're thoughtless), don't ask yourselves "what is this feeling?" We're just here to give the people what they want. That's enough of that. This episode, we went to see the fabulous Wicked, starring the wicked-ly talented, one and only Cyndana Enolo and Areola Granola. Oi! Travolta! Get off the keyboard! Anyway, this is a fun one. What am I talking about? They're all fun! Go back and listen to them all again! But listen to this one first...it's wicked. We hope you're happy. MUSIC TRACKS Modern Funk Groove by StudioEtude. Hi! It's us again. The Terrance Malick of podcasters. We wanted to evoke the massive gap between the original movie and it's sequel, so it was clearly on purpose. It's modern art. This is another car episode and this time we went to see Beetleguise Beetleguise, the cleverly named second instalment of the budding franchise, directed once more by the great Tim Burton. Did we like it? Listen to find out, you lazy sod. Si managed to repurpose Greensleeves for the less reputable crowd, but it's so old that the original composer isn't around to sue him. Question for the masses - have you ever heard it on an ice cream van? Answers on a postcard to "The Broom Cupboard" please. Also, if you like Your Highness, please let us know. We feel so alone. We watched Conan The Barbarian, the classic 1982 swords and sorcery epic and the breakthrough of one Ah-nult Brownschwieger, the famous comedian. You guys are awesome and thanks for listening, even when we're not putting out new episodes! While I edit our latest full length episode (which, sadly, may be the only one until at least August due to lost of work, which is a good thing) have a Bonus with a capital B. Well, my stupid, sorry, parasitic sacks of entrails… a new episode awaits your listening pleasure. Clear out the wax in your ears and use it to curl your moustache, because this week, we're talking about Steven Spielberg's version of Peter flockin' flyin' Pan - Hook (1991)! Peter Pan was a big deal to me. After having been to see the play, I rolled up paper and stuck it down the back of my shirt to emulate the wires the actors flew on and I ran around the house like that, flying and fighting Captain Hook. You can imagine my surpise when the men came to take me away. But I've been back for two weeks now and have never felt better. But digression is a mortal sin, and I do digress. Blah blah steamboat pickle schnozz on a pile of poo. What follows is two hours long. Yes, two. Not one, not one and a half. Two. My advice? Strap in. But get your enema first. We have some preliminary discussions about the re-release of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace on it's 25th anniversary and sex, two uneasy bedfellows. Our quiz this week was sponsored by Hyperbollick Bollix and is a collossal waste of time and resources, so enjoy that. Si sure did! And of course, our awfully big adventure with Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman and Julia Roberts, whose feet remain clean almost throughout (damn that inkpad) and all of whom are upstaged by a red mohawk. What's your greatest phobia? Si and Jonny delve deeply into the weird and baffling world of fear in this week's episode, our first one back in over 3 months! Are you excited? Are you hopping up and down with glee? Are you perspiring with unfettered joy? Or is it more a case of a subtle raise of the eyebrows and a muttering of "oh, right..." before adding this to a perpetually growing queue of podcast episodes that you won't get to before 2026, if it even survives the inevitable purge in a few month's time? Cynical? Moi? Well, seeing as no-one reads this, I can say whatever I want, can't I? I like I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. Yes, I do. It's not the best, but I like it, so you can shove it up your arse. Yes, I've gone rogue and I don't care who knows it. I used to eat Coco Pops out of two plastic cups. One with Coco Pops and milk in it and one with just Coco Pops for a refill. It was glorious. I used to lie on my bed, watch 24 and eat it with a plastic spoon. I bloody loved it and I'm not even ashamed. The song "Hello, Hello, Hello" by Remi Wolf is on my playlist and I don't skip it when it comes on. You wanna start something? Come on! I'm right here! Welcome to spooooooky season on WOSN! This week we reviewed Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow, a ghoulish tale of a murdering spectre with a tendency to lop awff the noggin. Summer is still here. It just won't go away. And yet, we managed a bonus episode to keep you going until such time as we can peel ourselves back up off the floor and get back to it. This episode is made up of two discussions that unintentionally wound up connecting to each other. We talked typecasting, Alan Rickman was mentioned. A couple of weeks later we recorded, on Si's PHONE ( the shaaaame!) an impromptu discussion on the subject of THAT nose while with our kids in the park. The results...well, I'll let you decide. Si was a bit impatient during this one. He felt that an episode concerning the movie Speed should run at a brisk pace. I had other plans, clearly. I say clearly, because editing this thing during the summer holidays with work and kids on my back, I haven't heard this since we recorded it two weeks ago, so here I am scolding my past self for being, well, annoying. The main thing is that it's here. It managed to pull it's way up from limbo and into your delicate ears, much like one of those parasite things from Star Trek 2. So here we go. Pop quiz, hotshot. Hello, and welcome to the new What's Our Seat Number. No longer the frivolous, whimsical, sarcastic and erotic podcast that you're used to. Instead we will now approach each subject with serious, sober reflection and a grave, businesslike demenour. You can call us Fred Austere. This podcast is now officially dour and funereal. Right down to that strange hiccuping, burping noise Si made. He also channels Luis from Ant-Man for some of the finest summarising anyone's ever done, ever. This week, we review Steven Spielberg and George Lucas' classic Raiders of the Lost Ark, for no apparent reason other than we wanted to. No-one else has done anything Indiana Jones-centric this month at all, and there's nothing significant happening in the world of Indiana Jones right now. We also decided to keep it short, glossing over each scene with never so much as more than a passing mention, for a paltry 2 hours, making this one of our shortest episodes ever for a film we really have no nostalgia, reverence or even a mild passion for. It's really just a big dud, isn't it? Perfectly round boulders made of fibreglass? Ha. Bollocks. That's not realistic at all. Boulders are made of rock. Idiots. Si came up with an awesome Indy quiz that stumped Jonny more frequently than once...and quick visits to Trivia Corner and VFX Attic reveal Raiders' secrets that you can likely Google and find more quickly than it took us to talk about them. Hear Si complain about the speed of our progress every few minutes (which invariably slows us down further) and hear Jonny pronounce Toht as Tote several times (that's how Spielberg says it, but maybe it's pronounced Tot?) PLUS! Jonny brings on a very special guest to talk about her opinion of Raiders' ending, something they disagree on, but Jonny's stuck with her, so what to do... witness the podcast debut of Michal Gross, Jonny's missus. So sit back and relax, because this ramble will take you on a journey. Where, you ask? I don't know, we're making this up as we go... You wanna get nuts? I know a place that sells nuts and many assorted snacks! Let's get some nuts! This week's episode is a solo affair, and no, I'm not talking about a middling Star Wars movie...or wanking...I just went to see a film that my partner in pod and biological brother, Si, has not seen. I took an afternoon off and went to see The Flash by my lonesome. The film stars intermittently annoying Ezra Miller as the Scarlet Speedster, while a couple of previous Batmen show up to ensure audience turnout. In the words of Louis from The Princess and the Frog - it didn't end well. Box office has been somewhat below expectations for Andy Muschietti's fanbaiting multiverse flick, despite some positive reactions, and while it is an amusing way to pass a couple of hours and Michael Keaton is always welcome, there are some issues that keep it from achieving greatness. Listen on for my thoughts! UPDATE! This episode now comes with a generous helping of SI! Si unexpectedly watched the movie and we chatted about it right here in this updated episode! !!SPOILER ALERT!! MUSIC TRACKS Modern Funk Groove by StudioEtude. Feel The 80s by Nuclearmetal.
In 1980, Superman II was released to great fanfare and adoration, but it was NOT credited to original director Richard Donner. Donner had in fact been removed from the project halfway through the simultaneous filming of both movies and Richard Lester (The Three Musketeers '73) was brought in to replace him. The result is vastly different to what was planned. In 2006 Donner got the chance to unearth his discarded footage and recut the film to suit his original vision. Is it better? Is it worse? Well, that's what we're here to talk about! I'm going to teach you all something very very valuable right now about podcasting. Prepare yourselves, because these are pearls of wisdom right here. The key to having a successful podcast is CONSISTENCY. So here we are, willy nilly releasing episodes a couple of weeks apart, a couple of months apart...our last full episode was mid-April...so...yeah. Consistency. Always consistency. Having said that, this episode is a cracker! Where else can you get Movie News that's over a month old without going back and listening to old... ... ...yeah, I suppose you could do that. And why not? We have fun, don't we? This week's episode deals with the absolute clusterfuck that was the making of Superman The Movie and Superman II. And next week, we go into to detail comparing and contrasting Superman II the theatrical cut with the more recent Richard Donner Cut, the original director who was fired after having completed 80% of Superman II and was given a chance in 2006 to realise his vision. Also, we got a couple of Daleks to do Trivia Corner, so listen out for that... Also be sure to take a gander at Si's pod art for this week, it's bloody gorgeous! Enjoy! Do you know your ABC? You'd better if Nic Cage is around... This week, we went see Renfield, a new comedy/horror flick, which would have been just fine on it's own. Nicholas Hoult is a great actor, the premise - Dracula's familiar in modern day New Orleans joins a support group for the abused - is high concept and funny. But then you turn away. Then you blink. A veritable Russian Doll of tangents are at the fore of this week's episode, where the sheer amount of unrelated topics careening wildly off the road is positively mind boggling. It's like, you know when you're in the middle of a sentence and you think of something else and then you get stuck on that thing but you were supposed to be talking about something else? That's this episode. Right…where was I? Oh yes…The Pagemaster! It's a film that we're talking about this week, with microphones precariously balanced on mic stands only prevented from falling over by apples in a bag hung from the back and a pop filter wedged into the shock mount taped to a plastic knife. And why? Because both mic stand and pop filter broke within minutes of each other before recording. But that's neither here or there. I just wanted you to know how hard it was. As a result, Jonny's mood took a turn for the cantankerous with the black cloud that used to form over Si's head ominously gliding over to him, with hilarious and/or annoying results. You decide. In just over a month, the ghouls, witches and demons shall rise up to wreak havoc as All Hallow's Eve befalls us once more, and what better way to celebrate the festival of darkness than by watching scary movies? This week, we watched Poltergeist, a Toe Pooper film, not at all directed by Steven Spielberg. And those skeletons in the pool aren't real in the slightest. Through a haze of fatigue (and a rather sudden expulsion of bodily gas during VFX Cavalcade), we trudged through this episode until we dragged ourselves, crawling, defeated, hoarse and ripping our own faces off, over the finish line. The episode was then edited over several days in order to make it seem like we acquitted ourselves with the utmost professionalism and composure. Our efforts may have failed. Let's have an episode. Morbius has gained cult status simply by being reportedly bad, but there are those who have said "well, it's not so bad." Ever the detectives, we deigned to investigate to find out if Morbius is indeed bad... or not so bad. We did this through intricately developed investigative techniques that took us decades to learn in the art of investigation and whatnot. So we watched the film and made snarky comments about it on our podcast afterwards. Si commendeers movie news and sets a new Guinness World Record for Dad puns, while Jonny plays random grunts from films and Si tries to guess what they are. Also, check out Filmfloggers at www.filmfloggers.com, another fantastic movie podcast (note how I'm bigging us up while bigging them up. This is talent) - we were mentioned during their Cutthroat Island episode, so give that a listen so you'll have any idea what we're banging on about in the opening here. All that and more. It's been a while, but here we are with our first full episode since the Eisenhower administration. Last Action Hero, much maligned at the time for it's overly comedic and satirical style (here 1993, I'll help - it's a comedy and a satire...) and for the fact that it wasn't Jurassic Park, makes it's What's Our Seat Number debut as it pulls out it's magic ticket and slides effortlessly through our microphones and into episode 22. With animated cats, black and white renderings of Humphrey Bogart and many, many cameos, audiences probably thought they'd accidentally walked into Planet Hollywood. But far removed from it's release and with our usual nostalgia glasses on, it's obvious that this is a hilarious and highly entertaining movie that should have recieved more love than it did. As usual, we play games and talk trivia and movie news, with some added controversy this week because Jonny's not content with simply being cancelled, he also wants to watch the world burn. He just shot someone, he did it on purpose. Aaaaaanyway. Enjoy. MUSIC TRACKS Modern Funk Groove by StudioEtude. Feel The 80s by Nuclearmetal. Adventure Battle Victory Ident by MPAudioSolutions. Hi everyone! We've been away for a bit, but we're back! We recorded an episode this week (Last Action Hero) but as I haven't had time to edit it all yet, here's a snippet we've put together so we can catch up on what we've seen over the summer! So, in the meantime...what have you seen? MUSIC TRACKS Modern Funk Groove by StudioEtude. Feel The 80s by Nuclearmetal. Trap Ident by LEXMUSIC.
Oi oi! You lucky people! Here is an interesting short discussion we had about people being mean online. It's part moan, part plea, but all worth it to hear Jonny's Vanessa Redgrave impression. Enjoy, stay in school. MUSIC TRACKS Modern Funk Groove by StudioEtude. Feel The 80s by Nuclearmetal.
This week we went to see The Black Phone, starring Ethan Hawke and directed by Scott Derrickson, based on a Joe Hill short story (from the collection 20th Century Ghosts, if anyone wants to check it out.) Remember that scene in Jumanji when Robin Williams' legs can be seen sticking out of the ceiling from the floor below? That's what happened to Jonny as a result of the jump scares in The Black Phone. We also get a bit serious about stuff. I know, it's completely off brand and complaints can be posted in the complaints box. It's the big bowl filled with water in that small room over there. Seriously though, TRIGGER WARNING as we talk a bit about physical abuse of children, which this movie deals with quite a bit. ALSO - SPOILER ALERT!!! As usual, we have games, trivia and movie talk, it's all in this episode, so click on it and listen to it! Don't forget to like, review, rate and subscribe! It seems that like the Tyrannosaur, WOSN doesn't follow any set patterns or park schedules. It's the essence of chaos. So, here we are, a week and a day after the last episode. Anarchy! But still, we're not posting old episodes, we're making all new ones! In this episode, we discuss everything Jurassic Park, from the 1993 classic directed by Steven Spielberg, to the current trilogy, Jurassic World. So, pour yourself a trembling glass of water, hang onto something and put those down, if they're heavy it means they're expensive…and listen to the grating sound of us talking, which is akin to Alan Grant blowing into a fossilized Raptor larynx. Don't have the time? You'll find the time. Because…life…finds a way… Note: Trevorrow is pronounced like "tomorrow." Not like "Devereaux." I don't know why I did that, but sometimes the simplest pronunciation is the correct one. Now ask me how to say Timothee Chalamet… Note #2: Every time one of us said Stegosaurus… we meant Brontosaurus. We're not paleontologists… Modern Funk Groove by StudioEtude. Oh! Uuuuh...oooohhh! Um...ooooh! And so the Goldblumming begins! This week we discuss the latest in a long line of sequels repurposed into legacy sequels - Jurassic World: Dominican...er...Dominion. Fair warning: HERE BE SPOILERS! We talk pranks (Si hilariously hindered my teeth brushing for approximately 2 minutes) and some alleged disc switching that kept me busy for quite a bit longer, Morbius (yes, again) and rotisserie chickens. Well this is fun, isn't it? Not only did we give you a full episode just two days ago, but now we're coming at you with some glorious BONUS CONTENT! Stop, hey, what's that sound? It's the sound of maniacal, hysterical laughter and the perpetrator is none other than Simon Gross, who has lost it. The cause, is of course, me, Jonny, because I am hilarious, and my new game, which broke Si's brain. Once the giggling died down, we managed to get into a discussion of Sam Raimi's latest, which also happens to be the new MCU entry, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Long Ass Titles. Sorry to disappoint anyone who thought otherwise, but in this week's episode, we chat about the 1987 classic Innerspace, not The Neverending Story. Things were said, deflating horse testicles were mentioned, Si lamented his secret nightlife as a pinup girl and wet wipes were poked back in to the packet with our index fingers. Because we care and don't want to burn in hell for all eternity. As usual, we have Movie News (with autocue reading idiot Jonny Gross), trips to corners and attics, the beloved Tagline Game and a new quiz game titled “You're Talking Bullshit” which was the hit of the episode and absolutely did not make Si look stupid. What's your favourite time travel movie? Ok, fine, Back to the Future. What's your second favourite? Right, I can see we're going to be here for a while. The Time Machine 2002 anyone? Anyone? No? Just me? Alright then... This week we're talking about everyone's 43rd favourite time travel movie, The Time Machine 2002, starring Guy Pierce, Samantha Mumba, Orlando Jones and Jeremy Irons. We discuss poor lighting decisions and the ridiculousness of made-up futures (because they should be real futures, no?), while wondering how 800,000 years can pass, the English language is all but lost (except when the script needs it to not be) and yet the Irish accent has somehow survived. We play our usual games and give you all your favourite segments, while keeping it clean. No one likes a crass podcast, Si. And as a special BONUS for you lovely listeners, we have a spoilery chat at the very end of the show about the new Scream movie, so stay tuned for that, or, if you haven't seen it yet and don't want it spoiled, you can turn us off before we start talking about it. All rise! On this week's episode, Jonny put 2004's Van Helsing on trial for crimes against cinema. Jonny, arguing for the prosecution, will seek to prove that Van Helsing is a pungent poo of a film, while Si, arguing for the defense, will try to prove it's innocence (he doesn't have a sense of smell, so that may help). What will be the verdict? Listen to find out, your jaw will positively elongate with shock! Along the way, we chat about our walkout films, we continue to annoyingly quote films at each other while once again visiting Trivia Corner and VFX Attic, playing the Tagline Game and learning absolutely nothing of note in Movie News. After a brief hiatus due to illness and all sorts of misery, behold! Episode 10 is here! Si has a few surprises in store for Jonny in this week's episode, in which we review Ghostbusters Afterlife, the third film in the Ghostbusters fan-chise. Fourth if you count the 2009 game. Fifth if you count the reboot - the question is, should you? It's a slightly different episode this week. We've put the gunbarrel at the end and have taken out the blood, but don't worry, there are important narrative reasons for it. It...it's fine. We chat fan service, legacy sequels, Sedgwick Hotels and Magical Paths to Fortune and Power. Jonny has a lie down briefly on what we've dubbed as the No Time To Die Therapy Couch (TM). Not yet open to the public, patent pending. Lawsuit likely in progress. Look out for more movie news, visit Trivia Corner and VFX Attic with us and prime your Neutrino Wands because we sink our teeth into every aspect of this movie like Muncher going at a steelworks. In this week's episode, we're talking about the 1991 classic The Rocketeer, a boy's own adventure romp that made nowt more than a whimper at the box office, which is a shame because it really is a fun flick. Hello dear listeners and welcome once again! This week's episode is packed to the gills with cartoony fun and family flick mainstays such as alcoholism, gun violence, murder, adultery and oversized cartoon boobies. We tell tales of Fruit Gums gone awry, villains so terrifying that millions of kids wet their beds all at once back in the 80's and an ambitious film that posits - what if cartoon characters existed in the real world and some were murdering psychos? If you haven't guessed, this week's movie is the 1988 classic Who Framed Roger Rabbit, directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by child fear peddler Steven Spielberg. As always, there are Tagline Games, Trivia Corners (a couple this week, actually), VFX Attics and two brand new segments that sent our running time hurtling past that of the movie we were discussing like a Dipmobile propelled by a speeding train. This week, we watched 1998 acid trip "The Avengers" (no, not that one) starring Ralph Fienne's bare buttocks, Uma Thurman in yet another furry costume and Sean Connery's handlebar moustache on absolutely fine form.
