Join Bill for Episode 736 of the Pennsylvania Rock Show as he features Pittsburgh artist Maleena. Maleena is on the verge of releasing her third album, “For The Love of Everything Beautiful.” This album represents the third installment of Maleena's deeply personal musical trilogy. The journey began with “Bruises to Prove It,” an exploration of adolescence and the trials of youth, which she started writing when she was just 15. The second chapter, “Diary of a Music School Dropout,” captured her frustrations with the college system and the turbulence of that period. In this third album, Maleena navigates the complexities of adulthood, seeking comfort and clarity through music. While this album completes the current trilogy, it also opens the door to new possibilities and future explorations. This work stands as a testament to the enduring power of music as a source of solace and self-discovery, reflecting her ongoing journey and growth. If you love classic rock, old-time rock and roll, and R&B, you will love the Nieds Hotel Band. They began as a recording studio group and evolved into a Pittsburgh sensation. Much of this originated with the guidance of a member of Wild Cherry who is famous for Play That Funk Music. The Nieds Hotel Band has become the essence of the hard-working blue-collar muscle that has made Pittsburgh and their music appeal to the hard workers of America. NHB is popular with everyone who has heard them. They are very supportive of commercial drivers. They are much loved by crowds that clamor to see them in the Pennsylvania tri-state area. They even had an official holiday named in their honor by the mayor of Pittsburgh. Shelley Johnson interviews John Vento, the lead vocalist and founder of NHB. We feature some of their hits and debut two of their new songs. You'll love their vibe and their music. John Vento is best known as the front man for the high-energy, rhythm and blues group, The Nied's Hotel Band (www.niedshotelband.com). NHB is quite a collection of great players that has built a stellar reputation for killer original music and live performances. Away from the band Vento focuses on creating introspective, brooding recordings that reach deep and sometimes dark places. His fans relish his blend of eclectic influences, delivered with raw emotions, which he masterfully shared in his 2019 release, “Love, Lust & Other Wreckage,” an almost all true autobiographical story of his love life and how it has been affected by his first love, the stage. John's story of love, lust, and other wreckage was so artistically crafted that it gained the attention of renowned playwright/lyricist, Amy Hartman. Her rendition of John's saga has been shared as a stage play featuring music from the album. Check out this video clip from the premier – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXV1vwjXk-E&list=PLeR9KAr6aDocOv4UtlSMVgqF-YdWlnBG- Helping to engineer the journey through his love story are his core of collaborators, including a few of Pittsburgh best known artists; musician & producer David Granati, songwriter Bert Lauble, and singer/songwriter Cherylann Hawk. Other contributors on this album are stellar Pittsburgh musicians Cheryl Rinovato, Joffo Simmons, Bob Fetherlin, Wil E. Tri, as well as a few of David Granati's talented family members, Joey, Hermie and Jules. Of course, it's purely logical that Vento would find a great following in this town. His steely resistance to categorization is the very essence and backbone of Pittsburgh.
Itali-Echo interview with John Vento of Nied's Hotel Band - Jan 4, 2021
John Vento self-describes as making Americana Classic Rock with Indie Folk Pop surprises, which you can find when he performs solo, with Nied's Hotel Band, or, in the past, with Xposure and Bmen. He has sometimes been called the chameleon of Pittsburgh's music scene.
Not only is his journey through kidney cancer and depression a powerful story to be told, he continues to inspire lives daily through his music and non-profit, Band Together Pittsburgh. He has learned to powerfully overcome his challenges in life with a positive attitude and holistic approach. John Vento is often called a chameleon in the Pittsburgh music scene; and, while his critics may use the term as a pejorative, Vento views it as a compliment. He understands that they’re motivated by the frustration of their inability to lock him into a specific musical style. After all, the front man for the high-energy, hard-rockin’ bands, The Businessmen, and the Nied’s Hotel Band, is also known for his introspective, brooding solo recordings. John’s 2019 MTS release is “Love, Lust and Other Wreckage.” The album received the IMEA Award for Best Americana Album. His single, “Rainbows And Lightning” reached the Top 20 on iTunes Canada charts, receiving national and international airplay and charting. His follow-ups, “Baby Blues,” “Humble Way,” and “I Hope I Don’t Fall in Love with You” (Tom Waits cover) have also received national airplay chart attention. His latest single, “Well Yeah Maybe” reached #1 on the South African iTunes charts. The videos for his singles have all been selected for film festival inclusion, around the globe. John is a January 2019 Billboard Magazine Emerging Artist and a Communitas Award Winner for his work with non-profit, Band Together Pittsburgh. It’s no surprise to those who know him, as he truly is a humble, loving, and grateful person, who treasures his family and friends. Certainly, that comes across, loud and clear, in his honest, from-the-heart songs; and that, undoubtedly, is another quality which endears him to his fans. As he puts it, “If just one person is touched in some small way by one of my songs, that’s the greatest reward that I could receive.” Connect with John Vento: PRESS KIT: https://drive.google.com/open?id=10iOvRzKfk54bCkbs6FSIGkhI8zcEum8H www.johnvento.com https://www.facebook.com/johnventomusic https://twitter.com/JventoM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y65K1Hu2uik https://www.bandtogetherpgh.org/ https://www.facebook.com/BandTogetherPGH/ PRESS CONTACT: Michael Stover MTS Management Group michael@msmanagementgroup.com Join us in Making Pittsburgh Healthy: www.makingpittsburghhealthy.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MakingPittsburghHealthy/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/makingpittsburghhealthy/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/draarontressler Don't forget to subscribe, share, rate & review the show! They relish sharing his tumultuous trek toward achieving his artistic vision, which he accomplishes by channeling a blend of eclectic influences through his own, raw emotions. Helping to engineer the roller coaster ride is a stout core of collaborators, including John Randall Fox, Buddy Hall, Tim Hadley, and Frank Ferraro, along with renowned playwright/lyricist, Amy Hartman. Many members of this crew have been with him for more than a decade; and it’s easy to understand why, as Vento consistently showers them with appreciation and accolades. Though a one-of-a-kind performer, he professes a great distaste for the word, “solo,” insisting that, “Without my collaborators, I would not have accomplished anything.” That’s no surprise to those who know him, as he truly is a humble, loving, and grateful person, who treasures his family and friends.
