Deck the halls with terror! Join your host Henrique Couto as he unwraps a chilling assortment of yuletide horror tales in this spine-tingling Christmas special episode of Weekly Spooky. With tales that blend the warmth of holiday cheer with the eerie chill of fear, this festive horror marathon will leave you pondering the shadows lurking around your holiday decorations! First up, immerse yourself in "Santa Claus is Killin' the Town," where young couple Janice and Molly embark on a road trip to Decatur for a holiday reunion, only to discover that the festive spirit is overshadowed by a dark and sinister secret lurking beneath the surface. As they arrive at the quaint Chamberlain Inn, Janice's unease grows amidst the seemingly idyllic small-town charm, and the real horror begins to unfold when old tales of a local villain resurface, leading to consequences none could foresee. Next, brace yourself for "Krampus is Coming," a story full of bitter twists and vengeful spirits. Kathy Boettcher's quest for power and control spirals into chaos after her life choices lead her down a dark path. As she embraces her former self and the malevolent entity Krampus, a bloody reckoning looms over those she'd wronged. With each act of revenge, the lines between justice and cruelty blur, making for a terrifying exploration of what lies beneath a seemingly perfect facade. In "Operation Deadly Night," the tone shifts to a futuristic dread where AI and holiday cheer collide in a deadly showdown. When a new Santa Claus mod for personal androids turns awry, families across America find themselves in a race against time— battling for their lives against a jolly yet deadly mechanical foe. The horror escalates as families realize that Christmas is not just a time for giving but also a time for survival against unexpected threats. Then, don't blink as we delve into "Dead Silent Night," a cheeky tale of lust gone wrong, where dark elves turn traditions upside down. Follow Derek as he navigates a bizarre encounter that spirals out of control, blurring the lines between pleasure and peril during the holiday season. This comedic yet frightening fable reminds us that sometimes, the worst surprises come from the people we least expect. Finally, hold onto your holiday hats as "Doorway to Horror" thrusts a close-knit group of friends into an alternate universe where vampires reign supreme on Christmas Eve. Completely void of hope and hometown warmth, they must band together to fight for survival while navigating the treacherous landscape of a mall turned crypt. With the stakes higher than ever, their bond is tested as they seek a way back home, battling both the undead and their inner fears.Henrique walks you through these haunting tales, offering insights and a sprinkling of dark humor, ensuring that this holiday season's horror is as memorable as the joyful festivities. So cozy up with your favorite blanket, sip on some hot cocoa (or something stronger), and prepare for tales that will chill you to your very bones. Stay safe, stay warm, and keep an eye on that Santa Claus guy—you never know what he might bring! A LOT going on this morning as we get ready to make way for tomorrow & Friday's Children's Miracle Network Radiothon from Gundersen. You can find all the info on the CMN Radiothon at AroundRiverCity.com We kicked things off with an update on Hurricane Milton, and we also recapped the MLB Playoffs, the WNBA Playoffs, and the firing of Robert Saleh by the New York Jets. Doc joined us at 8:25am for another Racing Report early in the week as we'll be busy with the Radiothon on Friday, and ICYMI, the Brewers games will be broadcast by MLB next season. Talked about the "Most-Googled Horror Movie Locations" and a new pill that can apparently mimic the effects of running a 10k without all that pesky exercise! A blind woman is sharing the impact her new A.I. glasses are having on her life, and we also played another round of "You're Killin' Me, Shaws" thanks to Pasture Pride Cheese in Cashton. During today's "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about election spending, a #FloridaMan who's going to ride out the Hurricane in his boat, the winner of the "Fat Bear" contest, a plane that made an emergency landing on a highway, ANOTHER update on the Belltown Hellcat, a 10 year-old kid who got arrested for stealing a car, and a guy who had to go to the hospital after masturbating! Happy Hump Day, y'all! Brian is back after his colonoscopy yesterday, and he was eager to tell us all about it. We recapped last night's Vice Presidential debate and we also checked out the Wild Card results from yesterday's games. Let you know what's on TV tonight and we talked about a new beer making it's debut at the Texas State Fair. There's a new de-cluttering trend going around called "the Poop Rule" and it's actually NOT a terrible idea. Cool story about a diaper bank in Nebraska, and a big change in the Big Ten when it comes to the kicking game. We played another round of "You're Killin' Me, Shaws" for $10 of Brian's morning-show money, and had a story about a goat that "won" a marathon! And during today's "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a principal who got suspended for getting drunk at a school dance and touching some of the students, an update on the guy in Wyoming that ran over a wolf with his ski-mobile, ANOTHER update on the Belltown Hellcat dude, a customs search that revealed a rather large python, a man in Michigan who got really mad about some Kamala Harris mail, a couple of educators in Boston who misused some free tickets to see "Hamilton", and a drunk woman who ended up driving on the runway of an airport! I scored this green plastic 4 track cart of musical magic on Ebay, along with Bookends by Simon and Garfunkel, and The Live Adventures of Bloomfield and Kooper, Vol. 2. I needed to acquire an antiquated device through which to hear them because 4s don't play on standard 8 track machines, so I tracked down a heavy wooden Muntz cabinet model that still works. You have to change tracks with a lever - like an old time train conductor - (which is thrilling enough by itself) - but when I heard Nick Gravenites crooning “Groovin' is Easy” and “Killin' Floor” through the jerry-rigged Jensen speakers, I was hooked. I read that Mike Bloomfield had first approached Mitch Ryder to be lead singer, but he didn't want to leave the Detroit Wheels. Nick was a better fit. This writer of “Born in Chicago”, and collaborator with Janis Joplin and Quicksilver Messenger Service was the Chicago to California connection that made perfect sense at Monterrey, where the band debuted. I had forgotten that Bloomfield's mission when he first assembled his cracker jack, “All American” band, was to encompass more native musical genres and to seamlessly mix R&B, Soul, Gospel, Country, and Pop. This was more than what the Chicago blues scene from which he emerged afforded. And, horns were part of the secret sauce. This happened at exactly the same time that Al Kooper's Blood, Sweat, and Tears were forming. Unfortunately, heroin, and other intrusions caused Bloomfield's band to break up before it could take its rightful crown, but this document, along with the soundtrack of Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson's film, “The Trip” bears witness to their promised glory. Groovin' may be easy, but Mike Bloomfield never did anything easy.
Happy Hump Day, everyone! Shaw is back and recapped his mini-vacation for us. We talked about yesterday's Brewer win, the WNBA playoffs, and Brett Favre's announcement that he has Parkinson's. Let you know what's on TV tonight and we also talked about the hottest thing on the internet right now, MOO DENG!!!!! Is it too early to put up your Halloween decorations? A new survey says that most people wait until October 1st. Great story about a guy who had gene therapy to fix his eyesight just in time to be able to see his newborn baby! Played another round of "You're Killin' Me, Shaws" for $20 of Brian's Morning-Show money, and Ryan guessed correctly that Shaw wouldn't know the movie quote(it was from "Idiocracy") During today's "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about how popular cocaine is in Colorado, a guy in Maine who damaged 75 cars on a dealership lot, a #FloridaMan who was rescued by a mailboat, a Porsche that was left dangling from a parking garage, a window washer who was also left dangling 23 stories up, a guy who was arrested at an airport in Hawaii with a bunch of drugs, a kid who couldn't get on a plane because of his Star Wars name, and a chicken named Betty White that met an unfortunate end. Let's get over that hump and get to the finish line! Talked about the Brewers loss to the Phillies yesterday and what that does to their clinching scenario…plus, Tua officially went on the IR for the Dolphins. Today is "National Cheeseburger Day" and we told you about some of the deals you can take advantage of if you're looking to save some cash. Great story about a teenager who didn't get a haircut for six years & just donated two feet of hair to a charity called "Hair We Share". Got a full update on the charges filed against Diddy, and we discussed the nutjob who's been stalking Paige Bueckers. Played another round of "You're Killin' Me, Shaws" for Brian's morning-show money. Kyle guessed incorrectly, so it'll be $20 up for grabs next week(it was from "Naked Gun") Did you see that the restaurant that's been trolling Panthers' owner David Tepper is back at it again? And during today's "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about pink water in Iowa, a doctor in New Jersey who just had his license suspended, a Delta flight that lost pressurization recently, a flight from Boston to Maine that landed while missing a wheel, a woman who was too drunk to go to jail, a guy who got stabbed over a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, a thief who got stuck inside a guy's Corvette, and a guy who was paying the wrong utility bill for 18 years! Shelby Lynne is celebrating the 25th anniversary of her landmark classic album I Am Shelby Lynne, which won her a Grammy award for Best New Artist. We recently sat down with Shelby to discuss the evolution of her songwriting, from her early days in Nashville to her recent genre-defying "comeback" album Consequences of the Crown. PART ONEScott and Paul talk about their favorite single lyrical lines, lyrics that bug them from songs they otherwise like, and quibble over one of Kris Kristofferson's best-known lines. Plus, they call on listeners to submit their own choices for discussion on an upcoming episode. PART TWOOur in-depth interview with Shelby LynneABOUT SHELBY LYNNEShelby Lynne won the Grammy award for Best New Artist in the wake of her genre-bending and critically-acclaimed 1999 album, I Am Shelby Lynne. But it was actually her sixth studio album on an artistic path that took time to unfold. Lynne and her sister, fellow artist Allison Moorer, grew up surrounded by country music. As detailed in Moorer's gripping memoir, Blood, they were also surrounded by violence and trauma. Both found escape through music, with Lynne signing her first recording contract at the age of 19. Initially working with legendary producer Billy Sherrill, best known for his albums with Tammy Wynette and George Jones, Shelby released a series of albums from Nashville in the late ‘80s through the mid-‘90s. She won the Academy of Country Music's Top New Female Vocalist Award in 1991, and was nominated for the ACM's Top Vocal Duo of the Year honor with Faith Hill in 1996. Without any major hit singles, however, Shelby eventually took a break from recording. After moving to Palm Springs, California, and partnering with producer Bill Botrell in 1998, she changed direction and found new footing as an uncategorizable artist committed to artistic integrity. The result, I Am Shelby Lynne, has recently been re-released in a 25th Anniversary edition. Follow-up albums Love, Shelby, Identity Crisis, Suit Yourself, and the Dusty Springfield tribute Just a Little Lovin' were well-received precursors to Lynne launching her own record label. Her subsequent albums Tears, Lies and Alibis, Merry Christmas, Revelation Road, and I Can't Imagine all reached the Top 10 on Billboard's Americana/Folk chart, as did her 2017 collaborative album with sister Allison Moorer. Shelby has recently returned to Nashville and has collaborated with Ashley Monroe, Little Big Town's Karen Fairchild, and others to create her seventeenth album, an unflinchingly honest exploration of heartbreak, called Consequences of the Crown.
