Phasma. In the lead up to The Force Awakens, the anticipation for the new film was palpable. Fans were atwitter about everything they were seeing in the trailers, toys and through the media, including one of the most striking new characters–Captain Phasma. This chrome-plated stormtrooper had many fans asking questions about who she was, where she came from and just how awesome she would be in the movie. It’s not an overstatement to say that she was a letdown in the film as she was given nothing to do other than be thrown into a trash compacter by Chewie, Han, and Finn. Fortunately, the rehabilitation of Phasma has now begun. She’ll be back in Episode VIII, she’s starring in her own comic (where she’ll escape Starkiller Base) and her backstory has finally been revealed in the latest release from Del Rey by Delilah S. Dawson. In this episode of The 602 Club host Matthew Rushing is joined by fellow Jedi Master John Mills to talk about the latest Star Wars book, Phasma. With every original script must come a novelization. Whereas movie properties like Harry Potter are adaptations of written source material, screen concepts like Star Wars are given the reverse treatment. An author must come in and adapt visual shorthand to the written word and find a way to do so compellingly. Often they do so by expanding scenes, inserting internal dialogue, and including moments left on the cutting room floor. As part of the nostalgia wave with The Force Awakens, Lucasfilm once more brought in Alan Dean Foster, ghost writer for the original novelization, to give written life to video concepts. In this episode of Aggressive Negotiations, Jedi Master John Mills is joined by a very special guest, “Saber Goddess,” to examine The Force Awakens novelization and look at its successes, its shortcomings and where she'd rank it on the pantheon of Star Wars material. What did you think of The Force Awakens Novelization?HostsJohn Mills and Matthew RushingSend us your feedback!Twitter: @TheJediMasters Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheNerdParty/ Email: an@thenerdparty.comSupport Aggressive Negotiations, and the Nerd Party network, by trying Lootcrate at: www.lootcrate.com/nerdparty Subscribe in iTunes!

Defending Your Star Wars. Two years before The Phantom Menace tore apart friendships, George Lucas tested the world with the Star Wars Special Editions. An opportunity to restore a deteriorating print became a project where Lucas made changes both small and large. What were the pressure points that caused the more extreme reactions, and were there choices that could have been made differently that would have made January 1997 a less tumultuous time of change for fans?In this episode of Aggressive Negotiations, Jedi Master Matthew Rushing is put on the stand by Jedi Master John Mills to defend the love of the Special Edition of A New Hope, and argue for why other Star Wars fans should as well.
