So much new info about George Lucas's legendary special effects company has been revealed via new documentary series like “Light and Magic” and “Icons Unearthed: Star Wars”. In 1978, George moved ILM from Southern California up north to San Rafael into a facility on Kerner Blvd, where it stayed until 2005. Thanks to veteran filmmaker Sean House, RFR was recently allowed access to this former home of ILM and important location of film history. This is the place where STAR WARS special effects from EMPIRE to REVENGE OF THE SITH were created, not to mention RAIDERS, E.T., Jurassic Park and so many more groundbreaking films. It's still in use today as 32Ten Studios and still creating amazing effects. Effects wiz Sean House joins us to talk about his career, his history with ILM and shares behind-the-scenes stories you've never heard before about working with George Lucas and Rick McCallum. Thanks to the help of loyal RFR listeners, Jason has solved his problem with Star Wars action figures falling down. We also talk about newer action figure releases from Black Series to Retro Vintage and more.

Comics, some wags would say, aren't real literature. We disagree and present as our evidence Obi-Wan #3 (of 5) and Doctor Aphra (Vol. 2) #22 as prime reasons why. Both issues are complex and detailed examinations of regret, remembrance and rage and, unsurprisingly, present a pair of textured stories that will resonate for awhile.Comics out today and broken down on this week's episode:_ Obi-Wan #3 (of 5) (11:12)_ Doctor Aphra (Vol. 2) #22 (37:08)Star Wars Comics on Marvel Unlimited This Week:_ NoneThe news:_ SDCC 2022 brought some sneak peaks of upcoming The High Republic comics, along with news that Daniel José Older and Toni Bruno's The High Republic Adventures story is no longer a graphic novel, but an ongoing second volume of the initial IDW series_ Claudia Gray's Dark Horse Star Wars comic is titled Quest for the Jedi and is due out in October_ Star Wars: Visions #1 has been pushed to Oct. 12 from Sept. 21_ Peach Momoko's virgin variant for The Mandalorian #4, due out Oct. 5, is a 1:100 variant and the pre-selling asking price for it is starting to rise VERY high.Upcoming Star Wars comics and graphic novels include:Aug. 3 _ Halcyon Legacy #5 (of 5)Aug. 9 _ Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The Clone Wars, Vol. 4 (Collects Free Comic Book Day 2005: Star Wars #1, Star Wars: Darth Maul – Son of Dathomir #1-4, Star Wars: Republic #74-77 and 81-83, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith #1-4, Star Wars: Tag & Bink II #2, material from Star Wars Visionaries #1 and Star Wars Tales #4)Aug. 10 _ Bounty Hunters #26, Han Solo & Chewbacca #5Aug. 16 _ Star Wars: Rebels TPB (Collects Star Wars: Rebels Magazine #1–35, 37, 39 and Star Wars: Rebels Animation Magazine #1–4)Aug. 17 _ Star Wars #26, The Mandalorian #2 (of 8)Aug. 23 _ Star Wars: Crimson Reign TPB (Collects Crimson Reign #1-5), Darth Vader (Vol. 3) Vol. 4 Crimson Reign TPB (Collects #18-22); Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The Empire, Vol. 7 (Collects Blood Ties #1-4, Blood Ties -- Boba Fett Is Dead #1-4, Empire #1-4, Underworld -- The Yavin Vassilika #1-5, Free Comic Book Day: Star Wars 2013 and material from Star Wars Tales #1-2, 6 and 16)Aug. 24 _ Doctor Aphra #23, Darth Vader #26, Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories #1 (of 12)Aug. 31 _ Obi-Wan #4 (of 5), The Mandalorian #1 (of 8) 2nd PrintingSept. 7 _ Star Wars #27, Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories #2 (of 12)Sept. 13 _ Star Wars (Vol. 3), Vol. 4 Crimson Reign TPB (Collects #19-23)Sept. 14 _ Bounty Hunters #27, Obi-Wan #5 (of 5)Sept. 21 _ Darth Vader #27, The Mandalorian #3 (of 8)Sept. 27 _ Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The New Republic, Vol. 6 (Collects Crimson Empire #0-6, Bounty Hunters -- Kenix Kil, Crimson Empire II -- Council of Blood #1-6, Crimson Empire III -- Empire Lost #1-6 and material from Dark Horse Extra #21-24 and Dark Horse Presents (2011) #1)Sept. 28 _ Doctor Aphra #24, Han Solo & Chewbacca #6Oct. 4 _ The High Republic Adventures Graphic Novel #1 (Dark Horse)Oct. 5 _ The High Republic (Vol. 2) #1, The Mandalorian #4 (of 8), Doctor Aphra #1 (Halloween Comic Extravaganza Reprint)Oct. 11 _ Star Wars Legends: The Rebellion Omnibus Vol. 1. It wasn't until a few years ago that anybody even thought that we might need anymore Star Wars. The prevailing theory is that any of the new Star Wars content has not been up to snuff. That was at least, until recently, when the expanded universe in the Star Wars worlds have been deemed excellent. The Mandalorian blew the lid off this world, and it's been growing ever since that point. We also didn't know that we needed an Obi-Wan Kenobi series, until just recently, and I think our expectations were met!"Set ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005), the series follows Kenobi as he sets out to rescue the kidnapped Princess Leia (Vivien Lyra Blair) from the Galactic Empire, leading to a confrontation with his former apprentice, Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen)." Listen, this might not be the perfect series, but to be honest, I'm not sure if that even exists right now! BUT, this is pretty damn close, especially with a seasoned Ewan McGregor, and anytime that Darth Vader is on the screen! Don't miss the boat on this series, so make sure you pick up that remote and go watch it! Welcome to Parallel Quest! In this week's episode Cody and Zach talk about the one rather good film of George Lucas's Star Wars prequels: Revenge of the Sith. The Star Wars prequel films are most definitely a mixed bag amongst fans of the franchise. With a little bit of time though, it seems like these have aged much better with fans than the initial reception of their release in the early 2000s. While Revenge of the Sith is the highlight of the film trilogy, it still does not reach the same heights that were attained in the original run of Star Wars films. It is a film that gets rather bogged down by poor dialogue and direction, which lives in a rather compelling narrative. Anakin's turn to the dark side plays out in very traditional fashion, following many of the tried and true methods of the tragic hero, and giving audiences a rather satisfying bridge to the Darth Vader that many grew up with. But how do the guys feel about this film many years after its release? With so many movies in the Star Wars universe at this point, how does it compare to the rest? Listen to the audio podcast of the show here: https://www.steellakestudio.com/parallelquestBuy Zach's newest book, Beast of Big Bear Forest: https://www.steellakestudio.com/booksSign up for our E-MAIL LIST: https://www.steellakestudio.com/emailThank you so much for checking out Parallel Quest. Chris & Kelsey try a double helping of the Stephen King adaptation and start bleeding from all sorts of places. The Original: Firestarter (1984) "A couple who participated in a potent medical experiment gain telepathic ability and then have a child who is pyrokinetic” (IMDb.com). Some wonky bits aside, an absolutely stacked cast turns out one of (in our minds) the actually good Stephen King adaptations. The Remake: Firestarter (2022) "A young girl tries to understand how she mysteriously gained the power to set things on fire with her mind” (IMDb.com). Compared to the book and the original film, this remake just doesn't stand up. But if you watch it first, you may think it's alright. Obi-Wan Kenobi is an American television miniseries created for the streaming service Disney+. It is part of the Star Wars franchise and stars Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, reprising his role from the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Set ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005), the series follows Kenobi as he sets out to rescue the kidnapped Princess Leia (Vivien Lyra Blair) from the Galactic Empire, leading to a confrontation with his former apprentice, Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen). The project originated as a spin-off film written by Hossein Amini and directed by Stephen Daldry, but it was reworked as a limited series following the commercial failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). McGregor was confirmed to be starring in August 2019, and Deborah Chow was hired to direct a month later. Production was scheduled to begin in July 2020, but the series was put on hold in January 2020 because Lucasfilm was unsatisfied with the scripts. Joby Harold was hired to rewrite the series and serve as showrunner in April 2020, executive producing with Chow, McGregor, Kathleen Kennedy, and Michelle Rejwan. Additional casting took place in March 2021, with co-stars such as Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Jimmy Smits, James Earl Jones, and Christensen reprising their prequel trilogy roles. Filming began by May 2021 in Los Angeles, using StageCraft video wall technology, and wrapped by September. Natalie Holt composed the score, while Star Wars film composer John Williams wrote the main theme. # The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi premiered on May 27, 2022. The subsequent four episodes were released weekly until June 22. The series received positive reviews; critics praised the action sequences, McGregor and Christensen's performances and Chow's direction, but some criticized the writing. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

That's not all — he also VFX supervised movies including Swordfish and Jeepers Creepers. And he's started Slaughter County Brewing, a successful craft beer producer. After a hiatus from the entertainment industry, Scott is now back on-set for I'm a Virgo, the upcoming Amazon TV series from Sorry to Bother You director Boots Riley. Scott reveals how he's embracing a new suite of tools for VFX production, including real-time engines and virtual production technology, to get talent to believe they're interacting with a 15-foot-tall teenager.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series is the new Disney+ live-action series. The series focuses on the character of Obi-Wan Kenobi during his time in exile on Tatooine between the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. The series was first announced in August 2018, with Ewan McGregor set to reprise his role as Obi-Wan from the Star Wars films. The series will be written by Jon Favreau, with executive producers including McGregor, Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. In October 2018, it was announced that the series would consist of six episodes and be released on the Disney+ streaming service. The series began production in 2019. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series will be the first time the character has been the focus of a live-action or animated series. The character was initially created for the 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, with Alec Guinness portraying him. McGregor took over the role for the prequel trilogy, with the character appearing in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002), and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005). While the character has been a fan favorite for decades, the series will be the first time his story has been explored in-depth in any medium. The series will surely be a hit with fans of the character and the Star Wars franchise. We want to hear from you! WOW. Our journey through the Star Wars Prequels continues with what is somehow considered the worst one. Acting as an introduction to a new animated series George Lucas requested the smooshing together of four episodes and making this whole thing a cinematic release. Aiming to expand on the very much skipped over Clone Wars we briefly saw in Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith it ended up being an incredible piece of storytelling mixing action and character development in ways we don't often see. Eventually. This isn't very good. What a time to be alive in a galaxy far far away.. More New Star Wars series continue to roll in, this time it's with Obiwan Kenobi. This hyped release reprises roles from the Movie Saga like Ewen Mcgregor, Hayden Christiansin, James Earl Jones, John Williams to name a few. A slew of “New” characters are introduced to the cinematic universe as well. We pickup 10 years after the events of Episode III Revenge of the Sith and fill in gaps between this quarter of a century time period between III and IV. Kenobi bridges stories between Trilogies like they deserve. We finally understand why Ben is Kenobi, Anakin is dead and Vader killed him, and we really do live in the Empire. This series gets a lot right, and is very fulfilling for the long time Star Wars fan and newbies alike. A few hiccups were expected & easily shadowed by the roller coaster ride we were hoping for.
