Award winning author Katie Ganshert joins the Wednesdays With Watson podcast. Amy & Crissy sit down with Katie as we continue our series on trauma and the enneagram. Katie brings invaluable insight into this topic as an enneagram Type 3. This fun, oft light hearted conversation is deep in the truth and helpful to those who are Type 3's or love someone who is. Enneagram 3's, often called "The Achievers" are high performing and are often rewarded in a denomination the world recognizes. This type struggles to separate themselves (hence their value) from their achievements. They can get caught in the "hamster wheel" of success and achievement as a means of meeting their core desire, to be SEEN. Contact KatieContact AmyAll 3 participants would probably agree that the big takeaway is AWARENESS. Katie reminds us if we are AWARE then we can deal in the real. If we are aware of how God made us then we can properly address trauma and everyday life. Taking the time to understand the way God made you can truly be transforming. The story of Hagar in the wilderness is found in the book of Genesis, Chapter 16. Jehovah El Roi--"The God Who Sees" is such a precious promise for all of us and especially if you are a Type 3! Katie encourages listeners to separate themselves from their achievements and know that you are seen even if you never accomplish another thing! Some of what you will hear....Question: What is your favorite part about how God made you? (2:13)Question: Can you tell me what it felt like when you realized your core fear/motivation? On Episode 241 of the Mama Bear Dares Podcast, Tesi and Leslie sit down with author and activist Katie Ganshert and discuss everything from how to have productive conversations with those we don’t agree with, how to use our spheres of influence to turn the dial toward less bias to more love, how our good intentions need to be backed by mountains of thoughtful research and great questions in order to have the most positive impact, and how National Adoption Month can be both loaded with complexity and a beautiful opportunity to serve the world. The conversation is far-reaching, honest, and pleasantly intense. Visit the Mama Bear Dares website for complete Show Notes.
So, apparently you all are very curious about our courtship rules and our first kiss -- because we had almost TWICE as many downloads of last week's episode than we've had of any other episode! Wow! Thank you for the many emails and comments and messages on Instagram. It was fun to read how some of you had never, ever heard of the concept of courtship and some of you had actually had very similar upbringings. (By the way, I posted a picture on Instagram of Jesse and me at 20 and 21 that might make you smile!) Today's show is very different from last week's but I think you're going to love it and find it insightful and helpful. We'll be talking about a perspective shift I had recently, my favorite money-saving website to get Kroger deals, and I'm going to confess a secret about books I don’t think I’ve ever shared publicly before. Plus, I’m going to be interviewing Katie Ganshert — the author of some of my favorite fiction books (and I’m taking a risk and tackling a hot button topic with her!) and then I’ll close out the show by answering a question on how I balance my life and still find time to relax (and why I've decided I can only do two things well per day). In This Episode: [01:07] - I woke up pretty overwhelmed by my day... until I read this quote on Instagram and it immediately snapped me out of that stressful space. [03:06] - Want to save money at Kroger? I give you the scoop on my very favorite website that you must be following for all the best Kroger deals (and the deals work at Kroger affiliate stores, too!) [06:05] - This week's book pick elicit's a book confession that I don't think I've ever shared publicly before. I hope we can still be friends after you find this out! [09:31] - Today's guest is Katie Ganshert -- author of some of my favorite Christian fiction books. I love how she writes with such rawness and realness and you'll love her answer to my question on what inspires her to be so vulnerable in her writing. [11:41] - Katie talks about how she stays inspired as a writer, tips for those who want to be a writer, and why she decided to take an entire year off from any book writing. [17:24] - I ask Katie a hot-button question about her book No One Ever Asked. We talk about race, how I can make a difference as a white woman, and how to approach this topic with grace and without ostracizing others. [24:56] - I close out the show with a question that was submitted on the topic of balance. I talk about my six areas of priority and how I implement the strategy of only doing two things well per day. Katie Ganshert is an amazing fiction writer, is passionate about race in American education, adoption and being a transracial family with a special needs child.
Jenny Marrs is wife to Dave and mom to 4 super cute kids! She is one of the first blogs about adoption I really started reading. I followed their journey because it so closely paralleled ours and I loved seeing other families struggling well. Jenny and her husband Dave do so much and i love that they do it so often for the gain of others! They started by serving and feeding kids in an orphanage where their daughter was and that led to feeding 3 others and now they are partnered with Help One Now Zimbabwe. Bentonville Berry Farm& Event Center if you are ever in the NW Arkansas area go check out the Berry Farm and help support their friends in Zimbabwe. I am so excited for the first season of Almost Home show on HGTV to come out so I can fan girl all over Jenny and her sweet family! Today Adam is sitting down with author Katie Ganshert, a wonderful woman who writes Christian inspired titles for both adults and young readers. Her latest novel No One Ever Asked, is inspired by real world events, this is a riveting tale about the way we see one another, the lies we tell ourselves, the questions and stories that go unexplored.
Katie Ganshert is a wife and amazing mom to two sweet kiddos. I met her while we were both in the process of adopting our sweet daughters from the DRC in Africa. We each have a daughter with special needs and that is something we continue to bond over. She is also an AMAZING author! After I read THE GIFTING TRILOGY I had a TOTAL fan girl moment...I KNEW HER and SHE WROTE THESE BOOKS!! It was a pretty dramatic moment in my head! Katie is so wise and kind and I love that she came on the show to tell us all about her latest book NO ONE EVER ASKED. Which I have read and will not stop talking about. I believe the conversations that will happen because of this book will be the catalyst so much change! Katie is passionate about many things, one being super mindful of her daughter seeing people who look like her. I love how her family just recently sold their house and moved so they could be apart of a more diverse community and their heart behind it all is so pure. Is the church blinded to injustice? How can a novelist be on the front lines of change? I am excited you are joining in today because I have a guest who is writing books that are on track to change the church. Katie Ganshert is a midwest gal who is passionate about Jesus, writing, her family, adoption, and God’s grace and justice. When she’s not plotting her next novel, she is on dates with her husband, hanging with her kids, and chatting with girlfriends over coffee. Her passion is for telling stories that demonstrate life’s most difficult problems from a spiritual perspective. Katie’s newest book, No One Ever Asked, is an incredible story based on true events about issues of racial injustice in America. Today, Katie is going to explain why social justice is so important to her and to God, and how sharing stories can change lives. Writing is such an exploration of how God has uniquely gifted Katie, and I am excited to share her stories with you. If you are interested in racial reconciliation in the church, writing good stories, and finding your purpose inside change, feel free to chime in! This is an episode you do not want to miss. More in this episode: Katie shares why she is so passionate about storytelling. Katie uses Isaiah 1:17 and it speaks to her heart. Social justice is a part of the gospel. Katie wants to write stories that the whole world will hear. How one trip to Kenya gave Katie the story she needed to share. How to become a working writer. Dive into Katie’s book, spoiler free. Katie asks the question of “What does it mean to be human?” in the light of real events. Learn Katie’s perspective on racial inequality and where that journey started. International adoption takes a long time, but Katie was determined to get her daughter. The church needs education to have eyes to see injustice. How our strengths can also be our weaknesses. Let’s get uncomfortable for those we love. Resources: Katie Ganshert Katie Ganshert Facebook: Katie Ganshert No One Ever Asked
My guest for The Happy Hour # 187 is Courtney Wetzel. Courtney is a senior at Texas A&M University and believes in empowering, equipping and encouraging individuals even in the mundane. Through her gift of storytelling, she is able to empathize and rally behind her generation. Courtney is the youngest guest I've had so far on the Happy Hour, and I loved our conversation, her energy, and enthusiasm, and I know you will too. Courtney and I talk about her current season of transitioning from college and how important it is for women to cheer each other on. Courtney is speaking my language when she talks about the importance of women saying to each other "I'm on your team". Courtney then shares how she developed the habit of looking for "dimes", or unexpected joys in each day. It started with a writing assignment during a season where it seemed joys would be few. I love how she has committed to finding her "dimes" in each day and that you can always "fight to find what was good about today". At the end of the show, Courtney will prove anyone who has preconceived notions about millenials wrong, because this gal is doing great things to develop community and creativity! But, we also talk about the danger in this age of hustle, and feeling like we need to keep pace with those we see around us instead of remaining grounded in where our true identity lies. {You can listen to the show HERE.
