Happy (early) Saint Patrick's Day! Welcome back to My Seminary Life. Today, for our Fish FryDay devotional, we are taking a look at Rend Collective's newest song "The Prayer of Saint Patrick" inspired by The Prayer/Breastplate of Saint Patrick. After briefly recapping the history of Rend Collective and their recent campaign to "Make Rend Folk Again," I dive into the words of both the song and the prayer, look at their differences, and focus on the general message of these words that Jesus is in us and is our strength. As we travel through this wilderness, there will be times when hunger pains sit in, both literal and existential. The words of this prayer renew our mind to the reality that it is Christ in us our strength, not by our own might. On today's show, we chat with Sean Curran! Sean Curran signed his first record deal as lead singer and member of Billboard chart-ranking band Bellarive at 22 years old. In 2018, Sean launched a solo venture signing a new deal with sixstepsrecords/Capitol Christian Music Group. His first solo EP, Bigger Than I Thought, released in 2019 and since then Sean has kept a steady stream of songs flowing such as “Bigger than I Thought,” “Glorious Day,” and “1000 Names”. Sean's first full length record releases in 2024. Sean has been part of leading worship at Passion Conference as well as touring with Kari Jobe, Cody Carnes, Crowder, and Rend Collective. Sean's eclectic style of artistry explores songs about life, faith, and the mysteries of God. Curran lives in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife Natalia and two daughters. The two call Passion City Church home, where Sean serves as a worship leader. Sean Curran has released his debut full-length studio project, Basic Faith, on sixstepsrecords/Capitol Christian Music Group. The 12-track album features new sounds and styles all the while taking the listener back to the basics of faith. Curran composes songs in such a way that they exist as invitations to enter into a conversation with a loving Father. “This collection of songs walk the listener through the basics of faith; to show us that Jesus came to do more than get us into heaven, He came to get heaven into us,” shares Sean Curran of his new album. “I feel that we need songs that help us praise God well, as well as songs that help us wrestle with God well – this is what I hope to achieve with my music.” seancurranmusic.com @seancurran christianmusicguys.com @christianmusicguys

If there is one thing we all desire as human beings, it is to be known—truly, deeply known—and loved just as we are. Psalm 139 says “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me… you are familiar with all my ways,” reminding us that we can experience the joy of being known to our core when we look to the Lord. Ainsley Britain is an Enneagram coach who delves into how we were individually and uniquely made by God, and how we can apply the knowledge of how we were created to our relationships with others—especially while navigating the challenges of high school. Ali Gilkeson is a member of the beloved band Rend Collective, which was initially designed as a welcoming place for people who didn't always feel like they belonged in the church. Through recognizing our individual roles in life, Ali shares how a raw, honest relationship with God can help us find our way home. And I believe that the Enneagram is just that helpful tool to kind of uncover that.” - Ainsley Britain “I think it's so important to connect with God daily because just like any of your other relationships, that's where the depth is. That is where the intimacy is. It's how you maintain and foster a friendship with the Lord.” - Ainsley Britain “All we care about is connection with God and connection with each other in a real, authentic way.” - Ali Gilkeson “Authentic worship isn't really even about the sound of a song. Hey Mumma, Today on the podcast I have Ali Gilkerson joining me. Ali has spent the last 12 years on the road with the band Rend Collective, whilst raising her kids and has now published her book "My Lighthouse". Grab a cup of tea and listen in because this episode is a heart to heart conversation between mums about what it is to be a mum in today's world, chasing your own dreams while being a mum, how we can point our kids to Jesus and so much more! You can grab your copy of "My Lighthouse" here.
The song has been ringing through the rafters of Hopetown already this summer, as it does every year. It's one of our kids' favorites. They have hand motions and have the best time reminding themselves and each other of these words of truth. “My lighthouse, I will trust the promise. You will carry me safe to shore.” The song is My Lighthouse from Rend Collective and we would highly recommend you listen to it with the kids in your life. AND, we're thrilled that our new friend Ali Gilkeson has written a children's book based on the song. We can't wait for you to listen in on this rich conversation about her new book, homeschooling, bus schooling, and the power of worship for kids! Find on Ali on Instagram. Ali Gilkeson & Diana Lopez are on Reading With Your Kids to talk about how music, magic & myths can inspire creativity in kids! We first speak with Chhristian recording artist Ali Gilkerson about her debut children's book "My Lighthouse". Ali tells us this song is based on the popular song by her band Rend Collective. The book tells the story of a boy named Finn who learns to appreciate his home in a lighthouse through an adventure. Ali discussed writing the book to share with her kids and spark conversations about themes of guidance and faith. Ali also shared Ali memories of touring the country with her band Rend Collective while raising three kids on the road. Dianna Lopez returns to the sshow to celebrate discuss her new middle grade novel "Los Monstros, Rooster and Dancing Diablo." She tells us that the middle grade age range from 8-14 is a time of great change physically and emotionally for kids. Her book follows a character named Rooster, who is the son of a devil known as the Dancing Diablo. Rooster goes on a journey to find missing children in the town of Tres Leches. Dianna drew from her experience as a middle school teacher to craft relatable stories for this age group. Click here to visit our website - www.readingwithyourkids.com
Is it possible to remain joyful in the midst of experiencing a very real struggle/trial? Taking on the moniker “Purveyors of Good News,” Rend Collective is a band that seeks to be authentic while delivering the Gospel in a simple old-fashioned manner. Amid so much heaviness consuming events of today's world, Rend Collective is sharing good news as a response to that brokenness. The five-member group identifies as a worship band with nothing to prove… just being faithful.

As we continue to look at the profound, life-transforming concepts Jesus shared through parables, today we'll focus on the parable of the lamp on a stand. May what might've once been a concept that caused many of us to feel pressure, now bring forth peace, purpose and freedom in God's love and identity for us. Our Scripture for today comes from Matthew 5:14-15, and today's worship is My Lighthouse by Rend Collective. – Next week is Giving Tuesday, the one day a year when the world focuses on unleashing radical generosity. And what better cause is there to be radically generous about than helping people connect with God? A generous donor has offered a $25,000 Matching Grant to help reach First15's $110,287 Giving Tuesday goal. This means any gift you give today will be DOUBLED. You and I were made to connect — with others, and most importantly, with God. But many people struggle to find a devotional resource that's easy to understand and relatable to daily life. This is why First15 exists, and I assume it's why you're part of this growing community. You can give your Giving Tuesday gift and have it doubled by visiting supportfirst15.org!

It's a bold move, and one the lead singer of Rend Collective knows will be controversial in some circles. Nevertheless, the songwriter of some of the Church's most well known worship songs, including 'Build Your Kingdom Here' and 'My Lighthouse' is releasing a record which touches on themes of doubt, mystery and even abuse in the church. In this in depth interview Chris Llewellyn explains he's not leaving the much-loved joy-centred collective, but wanted to explore other themes which are rarely touched on within Christian music. The result is Honest, an 11 track record which sees Llewellyn experiment with new musical styles and deliver challenging and thought provoking lyrics. Hear sneak peaks from the record as Chris opens up about his experiences of depression, suffering and celebrity culture in this conversation with Premier Christianity's Sam Hailes.
More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
Do you praise God amid deep distress? When your circumstances don't change, when the pain doesn't let up, when you feel like you're underwater and can't catch your breath, can you muster a song of praise to God? Rend Collective challenges us to do that in their song "Hallelujah Anyway." A man in Scripture found himself in deep distress and tragic loss and gave a hallelujah anyway. Let's spend some time exploring Job's story this week. In this episode, I discuss the following: Taking a B.I.T.E. out of Scripture – this week's Bible Interaction Tool Exercises include: Listen to an audio version of the text Read in context Read for a set period of time Read and keep on reading Remember that the people in the Bible were real Episode Guide Download Don't get stuck in one way of interacting with God's Word - Job 33:14 Stay curious as you interact with God's Word The story behind the song "Hallelujah Anyway" by Rend Collective - New Release Today Article Why this week's song inspired me to read Job Job 1:21 Job 2:10 Job 13:15 Some exercises to help you read this long story in context The power of biblical historical fiction to put flesh on the people described in Scripture "This book is all about calling into question the reader's views of God and the world" - The Bible Project Podcast While Job wants to know why he's being afflicted, God just gives him more of Himself - Job 38:1-7 "Love Amid the Ashes: A Novel" by Mesu Andrews - Amazon Paid Link Job talking about what his life was like before his affliction - Job 29 Words really do hurt - Job 19:2 Job's friends did not characterize God properly - Job 42:8 Keeping your antenna up for "light" and "darkness" language as we talked about in Episode 467 "I wrote a worship song which said ‘let the darkness fear.' Try setting a timer and reading for a set period of time rather than a number of chapters or verses. Remember that Job and his friends were real men with real-life experiences and emotions. Finally, remember that God rebukes the friends at the end of the story -- that should change the way you read their discourses.
Eric and Pastor Clay met up to talk about the new message series based on songs and specifically Pastor Clay's message about Luke 10 and "Build Your Kingdom Here" by Rend Collective. One of the things Pastor Clay eluded to was that the group in Seattle faced opposition to the kingdom-work they were doing, so tune in to hear more about that and what it means to knock the dust off our feet and keep doing the hard work of building the kingdom. Scripture: Luke 10:1-9 (GNT) Series: Summer Setlist Have you ever a heard a song so many times it lost all meaning? That almost happened to Pastor Clay and the song "Build Your Kingdom Here" from Rend Collective. Thankfully it didn't because of the songs connection to scripture. In Luke 10, Jesus sends out seventy-two apostles to proclaim God's kingdom to areas that Jesus hadn't visited yet. That call, despite its difficulties, is a call we live out today. When God created the universe, He did not wind it up like a watch and cast it aside until time ran out. Instead, God has been working and continues to work. God has plans. Rend Collective sings of God's continued participation in their song "Plans." We'll explore evidence of God's plans for some key people in history. Without God's plans for these critical people coming to pass, His eternal plans for us would never be fulfilled. Come! Let's explore God's plans together.
