In this week's episode of The Learning Curve, co-hosts Prof. Albert Cheng of Ohio State University and Alisha Searcy of the Center for Strong Public Schools speak with Dr. Suzanne Marrs, Professor Emerita of English at Millsaps College and acclaimed biographer of Eudora Welty, about the life, works, and enduring legacy of one of America's greatest Southern writers. Prof. Marrs explores how Welty's upbringing in Jackson, Mississippi, her family's love of literature, and her mother's devotion to Charles Dickens helped shape her imagination and literary voice. She discusses Welty's travels throughout the South and her work as a Works Progress Administration photographer during the Great Depression, explaining how these experiences informed both her photography and fiction. She highlights celebrated short stories such as Death of a Traveling Salesman, A Worn Path, and Where Is the Voice Coming From?, as well as the Pulitzer Prize-winning The Optimist's Daughter, examining their themes of memory, race, family, resilience, and love. Prof. Marrs concludes by reflecting on Welty's National Historic site home in Jackson, Mississippi, and the timeless significance of her literary legacy in 21st-century America. She closes with a reading from Eudora Welty: A Biography.

RIP David Wilcock: Defending him from Posthumous Conspiracies (April 23, 2026)

The Secret Teachings

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 24, 2026 315:20

After covering David Wilcock for over a decade---focusing on his fake prophecies and channellings, his promises of ascension and hover cars, his fraudulent aerospace company, and other outrageous claims that never came true---we have learned that he died by self-inflicted gunshot wound. Several of his critics have been blamed for his death, despite these people being the ones pointing out his delusion and trying to get him help. Even offering direct assistance. On the other hand, his 'love and light' followers have smelled the blood in the water like a shark and are, in the most unhinged ways fathomable, gleefully exploiting his death for clicks, donations, and delusional conspiracy theories. Even extremely popular alternative media have used the story to advance their own agenda. It appears there are many people who didn't know anything about him, but who are doing the same thing. We never wished David harm, although we pointed out that he was close to the breaking point for years. The worst we wished for him was that he faced karmic retribution for his destructive delusions, i.e., everything that he gained while selling falsehood would be taken away. Interestingly, David appeared to personally realize this in the end. He acknowledged that he was facing karma, that he was not talking to an archangel or an ancient deity from Egypt, nor did mass arrests occur, or full alien disclosure the way that he fantasized it to occur. He appeared to even recognize that his aerospace company was a scam. Being too prideful and egotistic, he still played it down despite the obvious mental crisis visible on the surface. He spent considerable time on each of his shows talking about how it is hard to push forward each day. His substance use, perhaps abuse, coupled with the decimation of his life's work, and the even more delusional followers that kept amplifying his instability and financing it, all contributed to his demise. It appears in the end, with no humor intended, that the truth killed him. The truth that he was wrong, and because he was wrong and didn't admit it, he continued to pour his remaining money and hope into fraud--inside knowing that he messed up. According to police dispatch, he said that he ran out of money. He took the only option that he felt that he had. In the end, it appears that David probably would have enjoyed his name being at the center of a UFO, anti-gravity, conspiracy. Thus, we are not defending David by putting words in his mouth. We are defending his actual words and behavior. Perhaps we can give him that as he rests in peace.THIS EPISODE CAN BE VIEWED WITH ZERO MONETIZATION ON YOUTUBE: https://youtube.com/watch?v=IT_Ns16gt1o&t=380shttps://bouldercounty.gov/news/death-investigation-near-ridge-road/ https://content.govdelivery.com/bulletins/gd/COBOULDER-41420b3 https://openmhz.com/system/codtrs5?filter-type=group&filter-code=693b5d40ccee41c1926e7baa&time=1776695400000*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. Today is an update on 2 of our brilliant guests and the powerful art they are putting out into the world. In episode 128 we interviewed Kristin Marrs and Anne Marie Nest about a theatre/dance piece they created called Chalk, which is about both of their journeys through miscarriage and infertility. These amazing women have been busy in the last year because they developed the piece into a full length show that opened in Denver last weekend, and will open in Iowa City for 4 shows at the James next weekend, March 21-24. Tickets can be found at http://www.thejamesic.com. In today's episode we: Hear about how Anne Marie & Kristin met during their challenges with infertility and multiple miscarriages, and how this eventually led to creative collaboration and birthing of a new piece of art. The process of creating this piece, and the magic of how it all came together when they set the intention of “this can be easy”. Ancestral patterning, and stories of women that came before Anne Marie and Kristin that had challenges with child bearing. The infertility journey that both women experienced,  including all the ups and downs, the limits of the medical system, and the deep, hidden grief and shame. Why the topic of infertility and miscarriage has been so  “silenced” in our culture. Why we need these stories more than ever in our current political arena when so many women are having challenges receiving the health care they need. What turns a house into a story you can hold? In this recap episode, we look back at our episode with Jenny Marrs for a warm, funny, and honest look at how a five-year writing journey became a memoir stitched from rooms, rituals, and the small moments that define family. Instead of design rules and trends, Jenny frames each chapter around a lived memory; the living room on Christmas morning, the spaces that carry laughter, mess, and meaning, creating a keepsake her kids can open years from now.Pulling back the curtain on the other half of her year: filming a six-episode renovation in Italy. The postcard image cracked under real pressure, snow in Tuscany, twelve-hour days, and back-and-forth flights that turned a dream into a test of endurance. We trade stories about logistics gone sideways, including a rental car ticket that landed on the wrong desk, and laugh through the kind of travel chaos that becomes legend among friends.Threaded through the hustle is a reminder of why any of it matters. A bearded friend recognized at a gas station, a viewer's daughter in a wheelchair who loves the show, and a quick decision to fly home early to surprise her. That small act reframes the entire season: work is the vehicle, people are the destination. If you've ever wondered how to capture your family's history, balance ambition with presence, or turn everyday spaces into memory engines, this conversation will meet you where you live, literally. If the story moves you, subscribe, share this episode with someone who loves their home, and leave a review with your favorite room memory so we can feature it next time. And go back and watch the full episode: Ep. 4 - Heartbeats and Homecomings: Jenny Marrs on Weaving Memories into Design

The ladies talk about what it's really like living normal life while also being on reality TV, how their kids handle strangers asking for photos, and the boundaries they've set when it comes to fan interactions. I'm so excited for you to meet my friend Jenny Marrs in this episode, she is the real deal: generous, grounded, and hilariously honest about what it's like to parent a big, beautiful, complicated family. Jenny's new book, Trust God, Love People (out October 7 — grab it wherever you buy books), is a collection of short, bite-sized stories of God's faithfulness written especially for busy parents who don't have time to read a memoir cover-to-cover. We talk adoption, spiritual warfare, and the he middle of the mess, yes, including Jenny's delightful obsession with “heart rocks” (you'll want to start collecting them on your next walk). If you're in a waiting season — adoption, infertility, loss, or any long “not yet” — Jenny's honesty about how waiting reshaped her faith will land like a warm hand on your shoulder. She shares the ways her family marks God's faithfulness (photos, rocks, kitchen bowls full of memory) and how those markers bring perspective when grief or chaos arrives. We also get real about life in the public eye: filming a family show, the hard comments online, and protecting kids while being authentic. Jenny's practical tiny tweaks are gold for busy moms: bring meals, send a quick “thinking of you” text, call people by name, and keep a giant handwritten calendar where everyone can see it — simple, doable, meaningful. Before we go, Jenny answers rapid-fire (including what she's clinging to in hard times — a New Year's trip countdown on her airline app — and one filming secret: outfit changes for days). Tiny tweak reminder from us both this week: if someone comes to mind, bring them a meal or send a quick note, loving people well is usually small, and it matters more than we know. In [a difficult] season, [my husband and I] needed to lean on each other and on God and get through it, and we realized we actually needed to let people in.” - Jenny Marrs "[God] works through us; He works through our inadequacies, and often when we don't want to do it, He can—even if we think there's no way." - Jenny Marrs "Identifying and spotting God's hand in all of it–the mundane, the hard, the beautiful, the mountain tops—all of those different experiences—we can spot His hand in that." - Jenny Marrs "I want my kids to be able to look back at the faithfulness of God in their lives that they didn't even know about before they were born and have that moving forward." - Jenny Marrs “I was introduced at an early age to both sides of the tracks—seeing Waylon with the security guards and the Cadillac and the Jaguar and the big house and [being a] successful country music icon. And then going back to my dad’s side of the family that lived in West Nashville who worked nine to fives and lived right at that poverty line.” - Struggle Jennings “I was caught up in that world—gangs and drugs and a lot of the beliefs like, Feed your family by any means necessary. It’s okay to do wrong if you’re doing it for the right reason—those types of things that I had to eventually strip myself of.” - Struggle Jennings “Many times God showed His face and showed His favor, even though I didn’t know why, because I didn’t understand what my purpose was.” - Struggle Jennings “I knew that I finally had to strip down and take full responsibility and accountability and say, ‘This is my fault. I can’t blame the judge. I can’t blame the person that snitched on me. I can’t blame my circumstances or the cards I was dealt. I have the opportunity to turn this around.’” - Struggle Jennings “I just really felt that God had a plan for me, and I wasn’t going to take it for granted.” - Struggle Jennings “Even the times that I had doubts, it was the responsibility to God and to my fans and to my children [that kept me going]. When you’re purpose-driven and you have a reason for getting up every day and you know you’re living in God’s glory and God’s mercy, you have that strength and that confidence that I’ve made it through a lot of things and I don’t know what’s ahead of me, but I know that if I keep moving in the right direction with love in my heart and God in my heart, it’s going to work out okay. Navigating the murky waters of auto body repairs just got easier thanks to an innovative approach that puts transparency and consumer choice at the forefront. Ilan Mandil, founder of OttoFixIt, joins us to unveil how AI technology is revolutionizing the way drivers approach collision repair estimates. By simply snapping photos of vehicle damage, consumers can now receive preliminary cost projections before setting foot in a body shop – finally addressing the anxiety-inducing question: "How much is this going to cost me?"The conversation dives deep into the stratified world of auto body shops, from manufacturer-certified facilities using exclusively OEM parts to independent shops with varying quality standards. Mandil expertly breaks down how OttoFixIt vets repair facilities (requiring 4.5+ star ratings across hundreds of reviews) and why having multiple quotes empowers consumers to make informed decisions based on their specific circumstances and vehicle value. Jeff shares a cautionary tale about his Cadillac SRX repair gone wrong, highlighting exactly why finding reputable repair shops matters. Our journey through automotive culture continues with Jeff's fascinating exploration of badge engineering – the practice of selling identical vehicles under different brand names. From the embarrassing Cadillac Cimarron (a glorified Chevrolet Cavalier) to Volkswagen's triple-identity vehicles and GM's global rebadging strategies, we uncover how manufacturers have sometimes confused consumers with their marketing sleight of hand. The episode rounds out with Marrs' entertaining guide to the Texas State Fair, featuring everything from the iconic Big Tex statue to butter sculptures, thrilling rides, and of course, the comprehensive auto show. The digital threat landscape for the automotive industry has never been more dangerous. Legendary FBI operative and cybersecurity expert Eric O'Neill joins us to reveal how cyber attackers are targeting major manufacturers with devastating results. Right now, Jaguar Land Rover's production sits paralyzed by a ransomware attack that's already lasted three weeks with no end in sight. These aren't isolated incidents. Just last year, a similar attack against CDK Global crippled 15,000 US dealerships, causing nearly a billion dollars in losses. What's truly alarming is how these breaches ripple through the entire automotive ecosystem - from manufacturers to suppliers to your personal data. Eric breaks down exactly how these attacks happen, why they're so difficult to prevent, and what makes the $18 trillion cybercrime industry so dangerously effective. But it's not just corporations at risk. Eric shares chilling stories of how ordinary people fall victim to sophisticated "phishing" scams through simple text messages that evolve into friendship before turning predatory. The conversation takes a terrifying turn as he explains how elderly victims are "fattened up" before having their life savings stolen through elaborate confidence schemes. We also explore automotive safety from a different angle with Jeff's exploration of racing helmet evolution - from simple leather caps to today's carbon fiber marvels with potential heads-up display integration. And for those seeking autumn adventures, Marrs provides some Texas fall travel tips, from the colorful foliage of Lost Maple State Natural Area to the wine trails of the Texas Hill Country.Want to protect yourself in this digital battlefield? Digital car keys are changing how we access and interact with our vehicles forever. While fobs and physical keys have been the standard for decades, smartphone-based digital keys are gaining incredible momentum—set to quadruple from 15 million to 59 million vehicles by 2031. This transformation extends far beyond just unlocking doors. The technology has evolved remarkably since Siemens introduced a credit card-sized precursor for Mercedes in the 1990s. Today's digital keys allow unprecedented flexibility: share access with family via WhatsApp, set speed restrictions for teen drivers, or even authorize Amazon delivery personnel to securely leave packages in your trunk. BMW's upcoming Digital Key Plus will take this further by automatically unlocking your vehicle as you approach, no phone-in-hand required. For Texans contemplating hurricane evacuation routes, Marrs offers unique destination alternatives to mundane motel stays. This is Jim Marrs' final interview. His work will endure and will continue changing people's lives. Jim was going through dialysis while we were preparing for this interview. He wasn't feeling well, and I asked him if he wanted to postpone our talk. He refused. His commitment to this conversation - and more than anything, to sharing his work - was too important. He was one of the last true journalists. He did what he loved until the very end. I was privileged to call him a friend. Jim is no longer with us, but his legacy will endure. R.I.P. Jim. Chilling initiations. Big banks and money manipulations. Possible links to the Rockefellers, Rothschilds, Adamses, and Bushes. Reviewing the evidence, documents, and connections, The Illuminati: The Secret Society That Hijacked the World by award-winning journalist and author Jim Marrs shines a light on the history, inner workings, and continuing influence of this hidden power structure. Surveying a range of voices - from those who dismiss the Illuminati as a short-lived group of little consequence to those who challenge government narratives - Marrs cuts through both wild speculation and deliberate silence to reveal the true scope of this clandestine order. He explores their origins as The Ancient and Illuminated Seers of Bavaria, the symbolism of the all-seeing eye and pyramid on the U.S. dollar bill, and the so-called Protocols for usurping national governments and pursuing control of the world stage. Marrs connects these threads to today's logos, elite fraternities like Skull and Bones, the Knights Templar, historic revolutions, and more. The Illuminati is a deep, fearless exposé - connecting wealth, power, and secrecy into a narrative that continues to shape the world we live in. Through Jim's voice, we're reminded why it matters to keep asking questions - especially the dangerous ones.

The Journey 180. The Privileged View of LBJ's Mistress In this episode, Adam Finnegan and Kris Millegan talk to Peggy Brown, daughter-in-law of Madeline Brown, to discuss her book "Privileged View: The Confessions of Madeleine Brown, Mistress of LBJ and Witness to History" to discuss some of the history and what it was like to grow up in these circles and what some of the people in it were like. https://trineday.com/collections/new-releases/products/privileged-view Madeleine Duncan Brown's Privileged View reveals a vivid insider's account of Texas politics, power, and secrecy that reverberates through U.S. history. As Lyndon B. Johnson's confidante and lover, Brown witnessed behind closed doors the maneuvers of oilmen, politicians, and influencers who shaped America's destiny. Through Brown's perspective, readers are drawn into the heart of the Texas elite — figures like Clint Murchison, H.L. Hunt and Johnson himself — as they orchestrate and control, from covert alliances to shocking admissions. In a book endorsed by Jim Marrs, author of Crossfire, the basis for Oliver Stone's JFK, Brown recounts chilling events from Johnson's whispered promise that the “Kennedys will never embarrass me again,” to firsthand insights about the 8F Group, a powerful oil-and-political syndicate. This tale is not just about one man's rise to power, but a web of influence stretching across high-stakes dealings, friendships with mobsters, and crucial moments in U.S. history, such as the Kennedy assassination and the Vietnam War escalation. Privileged View brings readers to the tables where Texas's elite made history— in smoky backrooms, on private ranches, and in extravagant gatherings where decisions that shaped the nation were made. As Brown navigates a path through these dangerous waters, she uncovers shocking truths, including how Lyndon B. Johnson and the powerful oilmen shaped and protected their interests at any cost. Her story offers a compelling lens on the dark side of American politics, exposing a narrative that remained hidden for decades. Madeleine Duncan Brown (1925-2002) was an American who claimed to be a longtime mistress of United States President Lyndon B. Johnson. In addition to claiming that a son was born out of that relationship, Brown also implicated Johnson in a conspiracy to assassinate President John F. Kennedy. Jim Marrs (1943-2017) was an American newspaper journalist and New York Times best-selling author of books and articles on a wide range of alleged cover-ups and conspiracies. Marrs was a prominent figure in the JFK assassination conspiracy theories community and his 1989 book Crossfire was a source for Oliver Stone's 1991 film JFK.
