Barber, marketing consultant, friend and trading card aficionado RETURNS to discuss his current passion/hobby and big source of JOY, trading cards. His alter ego, J. Bizzler, literally enters the chat.Listen as this St. Louis area-born, Champaign-rooted, scissor master talks all things trading cards. The hobby from my generation's youth has made a comeback in a BIG way. With modern tech and platforms only fueling the fire, trading cards have become big business and big money for the buyer and seller. The art, the player and the pristine level of the card all contribute to its value. We also talk about the continued fandom behind Pokemon. Have you ever walked around a street, mall, or airport and noticed two or three of the same franchise restaurant within walking distance? Why might one Starbucks or McDonald's or Wetzel's Pretzels sometimes be built so close to another? Are they friends or competitors? And how can that possibly be profitable?Today's show is one such example. Our pals at Hyperfixed got a knotty question we just had to help them untangle: Why are there so many Wetzel's Pretzels so close to one another at the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center Station? To find out, Alexi Horowitz-Ghazi followed the dough all the way to the top. His journey led him to a jolly pretzel executive, a franchisee with a deep-fried American dream, and a brush with mall security.Support:Planet Money+Read: Our book: Planet Money: A Guide to the Economic Forces That Shape Your Life Our weekly longform Planet Money newsletterOur weekly Indicator round-up newsletterFollow: InstagramTikTokYouTubeFacebookThis episode was hosted by Alex Goldman and Alexi Horowitz-Ghazi. Have an idea or tip? Send us a text!A four-lens 3D camera lab. A crash course in corporate chaos. A front-row seat to the switch from film and chemicals to digital video and modern production. Gary Pageau interviews Bryan Wetzel about his path from photography school into Nishika Corp.'s R&D lab, experimenting with lenticular 3D imaging, large-format printing, and early efforts toward computer-based 3D, plus shooting Nishika projects including an instructional video with Alan Thicke and a commercial with Little Richard. Wetzel takes us inside his time at Nishika, where lenticular 3D photography meant optical processes, experimental rigs, and constant problem-solving. From there, we dig into the realities of shooting and editing, why “fix it in post” can become an excuse for sloppy work, and how being early to digital created real opportunity when clients suddenly wanted faster workflows and better quality. Then the conversation widens to the business of media and entrepreneurship: why Georgia's transferable film tax incentives helped studios and crews actually take root, how Wetzel helped build a teacher-led educational video platform before online learning was polished, and what happened when he accidentally became a gym owner and later took over a restaurant right before lockdown. Along the way, Wetzel shares the most useful small business advice he learned from a no-nonsense mentor: say no without explaining yourself, don't fall in love with your business, and write the business plan before your heart lies to your head.Wetzel explains transitioning from still photography to video because corporate clients wouldn't fund film, adopting early digital editing and cameras in Georgia ahead of the 1996 Olympics, and building a corporate client base. He discusses Georgia's transferable film tax credits, then describes launching an educational-video company around 2008 that produced about 1,500–1,900 teacher-led videos and assessments for schools before being sold. He later acquired a gym (2017), briefly ran a restaurant through COVID-era challenges, sold it, and now writes books, sharing key business lessons on saying no, not overcommitting emotionally to a business, and writing realistic business plans.Energize your sales with Shareme.chat, the proven texting platform. ShareMe.Chat ShareMe.Chat platform uses chat-to-text on your website to keep your customers connected and buying!MediaclipMediaclip strives to continuously enhance the user experience while dramatically increasing revenue.Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched!Start for FREEIndependent Photo ImagersIPI is a member + trade association and a cooperative buying group in the photo + print industry.Photo Imaging CONNECTThe Photo Imaging CONNECT conference, March 2027, at the RIO Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas, NDisclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. The CopDoc Podcast - Season 10 - Episode 170EPISODE SUMMARYWhat happens when a police chief walks into his first department meeting and tells the staff, "I'm here to serve you — not the other way around"? For Chief Tom Wetzel of the University Circle Police Department in Cleveland, Ohio, that statement was not a slogan. It was a commitment he has carried through three decades of policing, from dispatcher to lieutenant to chief. In this conversation, Tom shares a leadership philosophy built on servant leadership, dignity, and what he calls the "sweet spot" between accountability and motivation. He is direct about what he has seen: too many police departments creating more stress for their officers inside the building than on the streets. The politics, the gossip, the nitpicking, the heavy-handed discipline — it follows officers home, sits with them at the dinner table, and follows them to bed. He believes that is not just a morale problem. It is a leadership problem, and it is fixable.Tom also discusses his book, A Cop and a Coffee Cup, a short, practical blueprint for police supervisors and leaders. The concept is simple: imagine a wise, seasoned officer sitting across the table from a young leader, with one cup of coffee and one shot to pass on what matters most. That is the book. It covers how to develop inspired and accountable officers, how to handle discipline with grace and discretion, and why the word "clemency" belongs in every chief's vocabulary. If you lead people in blue — or aspire to — this episode will give you a great deal to think about.Hey there! Send us a message. Who else should we be talking to? What topics are important? With more than 25 years of leadership experience across high-growth tech companies including Slack, Adobe, and Salesforce, Laurie has spent decades inside the rooms where promotions, hiring decisions, and leadership potential are evaluated. After years of leading teams and navigating complex corporate environments, Laurie realized that many talented professionals struggle not because they lack capability — but because their value isn't clearly understood by decision-makers. Today, she helps leaders articulate their unique strengths, communicate their impact more effectively, and build the credibility needed to advance their careers. Her biggest turning point came when she recognized that staying quiet and hoping her work would speak for itself wasn't enough in competitive workplaces. That realization reshaped how she approached visibility, leadership communication, and advocacy — lessons she now teaches professionals navigating their own career growth. In this episode, you'll learn:→ Why doing great work alone isn't enough to advance in today's workplace→ How leaders actually evaluate potential when deciding promotions→ The difference between being respected for your work and being seen as leadership material→ Why many high performers get stuck at the same level despite strong results→ The role of visibility and narrative in shaping career opportunities→ How to clearly communicate the value you bring to an organization→ Why sponsorship and advocacy are critical for career advancement→ How to position yourself for the next level of leadership

Dan Wetzel, national columnist for Yahoo Sports, joins 365 Sports to break down the growing power struggle inside the Big Ten over a proposed $2.4 billion private equity deal — a move Michigan and USC have strongly opposed. Wetzel explains why some view it as a “payday loan,” the financial pressures driving major programs like Ohio State, and what this means for the future of college athletics. He also weighs in on Indiana's rise, Heisman moments across the country, the chaotic ACC race, and whether the Big 12 could still get multiple playoff bids in the 12-team format. Welcome back to another After Dark episode here on the Iron Sights Podcast. My guest today is Jerry Wetzel, founder of Red Zone Threat Management Systems. Jerry's a lifelong martial artist, gym owner, and educator whose mission is simple — to provide real training for real people to survive real violence. We sat down right after the Combatives Summit 2025 in Mississippi and got into everything from his philosophy on violence and self-defense to his experiences as a coach, business owner, and lifelong learner. In this conversation, we unpack the mindset and methodology behind Red Zone, the importance of realistic training, and how Jerry's perspective is helping reshape how people think about personal protection. We also talk about his new journey into social media, why communication matters as much as combat skills, and how to stay grounded in a space that can often get weird or misunderstood. If you're passionate about martial arts, combatives, or personal defense — or just want to hear from someone who's constantly learning and evolving — you'll get a lot from this one. If there's anyone who proves that planning is a form of art, it's Susan Wetzel. Whether she's mapping out her one-, five-, or ten-year goals, or guiding clients through the legal maze of mergers and acquisitions, Susan doesn't wing it, she designs it. Every decision, every move, every cup of tea.Her brew of choice? Ginger turmeric tea for its bold, balanced, and quietly powerful impact, much like her approach to leadership and life.In this episode of Counsel Brew, Susan walks us through how she builds a career and a life by design. From her habit of printing every draft before she hits send (even emails!) to her meticulous approach to long-term planning, Susan shows us that being intentional doesn't mean being rigid…It means making room for what matters most. She also shares her deep commitment to the American Heart Association, where she channels her leadership beyond the boardroom, advocating for stronger, healthier communities with the same energy and focus she brings to her work. And because life's not all paper and plans, Susan lets us peek behind the scenes where Halloween and costumes reign supreme. From full-on costumes to an enthusiasm that could give the neighborhood kids a run for their candy, she reminds us that joy isn't just something to schedule in; it's something to celebrate. This episode is for the planners, the thinkers, and anyone who finds peace in a well-organized stack of paper, a perfectly steeped cup of tea, and a great costume idea waiting in the wings.

He then breaks down Trump's RICO appeal in the 11th Circuit, the judges set to hear it, and why the case could go well for Trump. JB also highlights the critical RNC v.
