Our last episode before the holiday festivities begin (and probably 2nd to last episode of the year?) featured an artist that we recently started following after a simple Inktober piece popped up on an Instagram feed. A few months and many more amazing art posts later, we had the privilege of talking with the Kentucky-based artist herself: Tressa Bowling. A lifelong artist and designer, Tressa has had work featured in projects like "Kentucky Kaiju", "Cash & Carrie", and her own webcomic "". She's a veteran of the Kentucky/Ohio comic convention scene and currently spends a ton of time engaging with her fans via her . This week Tressa gave us a rundown of her beginnings in the art world, a crash course in running a Patreon, and a lesson in basic United States geography. Check out some of her social media platforms , and and click the links above for some webcomic and Patreon goodness. Enjoy! -Jr.
This issue, we proudly display our Comic Book Dick Picks of the Month, and discuss Wonder Woman’s complicated past in ‘Beyond the Pages.’ In ‘Hillbillies on Film’ we will discuss and critique the new Wonder Woman film. In ‘The Mausoleum,’ we briefly review and strongly recommend “Through the Woods” by Emily Carroll and Kentucky Kaiju by Justin Stewart, Tressina Bowling, and Shawn Pryor. This month’s ‘The Imperial Security Bureau,’ breaks down the stalwart B-Wing class frigate and we tell you how to get the most out of this venerable ship. Most importantly, we have our second ever guest host here on the Geeks’ Boutique podcast, Mr. Chris Preece. Chris recently published an educational comic entitled CHEMystery and he’s here to tell us all about it. As always, we welcome our in-studio guests to chime in at will during all of our segments. Tressa and Justin welcome Shawn Pryor and Jason Sizemore to talk in depth about the upcoming book Kentucky Kaiju.
On this episode of AGP, I welcome not one, but to great guys to the show, Justin Stewart and Shawn Pryor. Justin began his professional comics career in 2005 coloring a Jim Mahfood-drawn story in Speakeasy's Beowulf #7. That pairing would spark a collaboration that lasts to this day, most recently in Miami Vice: Remix, the Marvel Comics one-shot Howard the Human, and the new Grrl Scouts comic that will be released in 2017. Justin has done artwork for Disney, Image Comics, Archaia, Boom! Studios, Zenescope Entertainment and is lead graphic designer for publisher Apex Book Company. Justinâ??s latest book is a collaboration with artist Tressina Bowling and writer Shawn Pryor called â??Kentucky Kaijuâ??. Think of it as a â??fantasy field guideâ?? to giant monsters that roam the Bluegrass state. Shawn Pryor is a writer and the creator of the all-ages graphic novel series, CASH & CARRIE, co-creator of MOTHERLESS CREATURES with Tressina Bowling, writer for KENTUCKY KAIJU and one of the original co-founders of Action Lab Entertainment. His favorite Kaiju is Mothra. Don't ask him why. So please join us to learn more about both of these amazing gentlemen, and listen to us talk about Kaijus
Recorded Sunday September 25th, Episode 10 will include discussions on Childhood of a Leader, the documentary Weiner, news, trailers, and other films we watched. This week's show is brought to you by Kentucky Kaiju. With detailed drawings done by the talented Justin Stewart and Tressina Bowling, and kaiju stats penned by Shawn Pryor, this book lets you uncover all the monsters hidden in the hills of Kentucky without leaving the safety of your home. Coming soon from Apex Publications, Kentucky Kaiju is available for preorder now at ApexBookCompany.com and Amazon.
