In The Money Media's Peter Thomas Fornatale (PTF) and Jonathon Kinchen (JK) catch up following a unique running of Preakness 2026 this past Saturday (May 16) at Laurel Park instead of the usual host track Pimlico, which is currently undergoing renovations. PTF & JK offer reactions and analysis of Preakness 2026 including on the mildly surprising win by Napoleon Solo, who scored under jockey Paco Lopez at a square price of 8-1, and talk in general about the 2026 Triple Crown season which started with a bang from Golden Tempo's sensational stretch run to win Kentucky Derby 2026 for jockey Jose Ortiz and trainer Cherie DeVaux. Triple Crown focus now shifts to three weeks from now up in Saratoga for the final jewel of horse racing's signature series with Belmont Stakes 2026, which so far has attracted the likes of Golden Tempo among other Kentucky Derby starters who opted to skip this year's Preakness Stakes. What did you think of the Preakness? What are your takeaways from the race? Share your thoughts in the comments! PTF sits down with Paul Halloran, author of the new book about Cody's Wish. Cody Dorman's story captivated the nation as the racehorse Cody's Wish rose to prominence. Cody met the foal in 2018 through Make-a-Wish, and the owners named the horse after Cody after seeing their connection. Cody traveled across the country to watch the horse run, drawing national attention.Cody saw Cody's Wish win a Breeders' Cup race at Keeneland in 2022 and was at Santa Anita in 2023 when the horse ended his career with a thrilling victory. The next day, on the flight home, Cody fell asleep on his mother's shoulder and did not wake up. While his death caused immeasurable sadness, those close to him were comforted that he was there for his horse right to the end. This is a story of resilience, triumph, and love—of the inexplicable yet undeniable bond between a courageous boy and the champion racehorse he considered his best friend. And it is a story that is still unfolding, with a life-size monument at Kentucky Horse Park debuting in 2025 and the first crop of Cody's Wish foals heading to the yearling sales in 2026, to race as two-year-olds in 2027.

Stephanie describes how obstacle work helped Sterling develop emotional regulation and bravery, and how cross training can benefit any horse transitioning from racing to a second career.Stephanie also shares the story behind her fun 80s themed freestyle routine, what it was like performing freestyle in the covered arena at the Kentucky Horse Park, and how she and Sterling worked through the challenging water obstacle during the Competitive Trail finals. Her creative solution in the water helped secure a Top 10 finish and marked a proud moment in her Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover journey.Whether you are planning to compete in the RRP Thoroughbred Makeover, retraining your own Off Track Thoroughbred, or simply interested in how racehorses transition to new careers, this episode offers an honest look at the preparation, persistence, and partnership required to bring an OTTB from the racetrack to a successful showing at the Retired Racehorse Project.Stephanie also reflects on what she learned from her second trip to the Kentucky Horse Park, how the experience shaped her approach to training Off Track Thoroughbreds, and what comes next for Sterling Honor after the 2025 RRP Thoroughbred Makeover. This episode discusses the Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover, training Off Track Thoroughbreds, OTTB Competitive Trail, OTTB Freestyle, New Vocations adoption, and preparing Thoroughbreds for second careers after racing.

Send us a textA bookstore with no checkout, a doorbell with a secret, and a barstool that comes with a story—our Kentucky journey starts where bike culture and bourbon tradition intersect. We kick off in Louisville on Whiskey Row, tracing two different arcs of American whiskey: Bardstown's modern blending and hospitality machine and Michter's deep Pennsylvania roots revived in Kentucky. Along the way, we compare tasting philosophies, talk candidly about when flights feel like value versus a money grab, and share what makes a tour memorable for curious riders who buy bottles with their heads and their hearts. Then we step into Kentucky Peerless for a true grained-to-bottle experience. DSP-KY-50 isn't just a number; it's a thread back to a family legacy that Corky Taylor helped bring forward. The team walks us through sweet mash, barrel proof, and why small variations can add character rather than chaos. We taste, we ask too many questions, and we leave with a sharper sense of how process shapes flavor. If you're mapping a bourbon weekend, this stop belongs near the top.Night settles in Lexington, and a camouflaged speakeasy hides behind floor-to-ceiling books. Ring the bell, find your assigned seat, and let the bartenders build you something you didn't know to request. A cognac-and-Stagg creation, a dealer's-choice masterpiece, and an atmosphere that feels more like 1930 than theme night—it's all craft, no gimmick. We even stumble into bike polo connections that loop back to a past guest and a court we once found on a Sunday ride. That's the joy of these trips: the people you meet, the stories you collect, and the way a city becomes more than a waypoint. We also preview Bourbon Country Burn from our base at the Kentucky Horse Park—routes, tastings, and a few live clips coming next. Send us a textWhat happens when you combine cycling with ziplining? According to Michael, you get one of the most unique adventure experiences available—bike ziplining through the Mexican jungle. After returning from a week-long resort vacation with his family, Michael shares his discovery of this extraordinary activity that lets you pedal your way through the rainforest canopy, over water, and even through caves on a suspended recumbent-style bike. This episode blends travel tales with cycling plans as the duo prepares for their upcoming Bourbon Country Burn adventure in Kentucky. Michael reveals that despite his fractured clavicle not fully healing (now eight weeks into recovery), he's determined to join the event and enjoy the famously smooth roads of Kentucky horse country. The roads, as Adam explains, are maintained to perfection for transporting valuable thoroughbred horses—creating an ideal cycling surface through picturesque landscapes. The conversation weaves through Mexican adventure parks, underwater propulsion devices for "power snorkeling," and the fascinating 2000-year history of ziplining itself. We learn how modern recreational ziplining originated with Costa Rican biologists studying rainforest canopies in the 1970s, and how it's evolved into unique variations like the cycling zipline Michael experienced.Looking ahead to Kentucky, the pair shares their excitement about the Bourbon Country Burn event with its perfect blend of cycling, bourbon tastings, evening bonfires, and community gatherings. They'll be starting their journey on Louisville's historic Whiskey Row before heading to the Kentucky Horse Park campground, where cornhole boards will be set up and bourbon will be shared. Adam kicks things off with a fascinating glimpse into the surprisingly technical world of "bus rodeos" where he recently served as "Officer Obi" with radar gun in hand. With a Masters degree in behavior, Lauren brings us an intuitive and holistic approach to transitioning horses from racehorse to riding horse, and talks about what it is like owning her very first mare, and maybe some jitters after visiting the Kentucky Horse Park for the very first time!

To this day, Lauren is an active rider and competitor in the Hunters at National and Premier shows, mostly showing at the Kentucky Horse Park. Additionally, Lauren has her ‘r' Hunter and Hunter/Jumping Seat Equitation judges cards. She now resides full-time in Lexington, Kentucky with her husband, four dogs, and boards her mare nearby. Ever wanted to own a horse? Think all wild horses should just be left to roam free? If you had a horse of your own, how would your life change? We cover all these questions and more as I piece together 3 men's voices from The Rocky Mountain Horse Expo. This was one of my most creative podcasts because I had to do a lot of workarounds to improve the audio and create a seamless listening experience for my listeners that still conveys the essence of what is important in these conversations. Clearly, this is the tip of the iceberg, and it is my hope that this podcast will inspire you to go deeper in the adventure of animal ownership or whatever dream your heart really calls you, too. After all, we only get this one life from what I've heard! So let's make the most of it, and make the most of the beautiful animals we are blessed to call home with us. Thank you to all of our guests and their special stories, and to animal lovers everywhere,Here is an outline of who you will hear in this podcast and some links to learn more about each:Tim Resch, from Estes Park Outfitters, followed up with a short zoom call with me during spring break when I discovered that his audio was inaudible and used AI for the original to make it work. You get to hear his real voice in the first 20 minutes of the podcast, and the story everyone is talking about:"How he traded his wife for a horse!!"You won't want to miss this one in the first half of this episode. You can find out more about Tim and how to visit him on your horse adventures here:https://www.estesparkoutfitters.com/about-usAround the second half of the episode, we hear from Matt Manroe, Executive Director of Mustang Champions about his experience of working with and training mustang horses in multiple disciplines. When I first met Matt, I thought he said that he had 2 million mustangs placed in his program (I misheard him - he was talking about a grant, I believe). But we both laughed and also considered, creatively, what might be possible if we could get mustangs in to every school and the hearts of school children across the nation. It would not only change the trajectory of the wild horses, the range, and the schools, it would change the trajectory of all humanity. You will not want to miss hearing about the visionary competitions in The Kentucky Horse Park and Las Vegas Show Arenas that Matt has spearheaded. You can buy tickets, make donations and find out more here:https://mustangchampions.org/Finally, the third voice you hear, Kevin Lloyd, is a fellow Idaho-an who I'm looking forward to catching up with again at the Driggs rodeo this summer. His job is to capture, place and manage the wild horse herds in our state and region. He had a wealth of perspective and understanding of both the vision and the problems that we, as a nation, and mustangs, as a species, are facing. His passion for caring for the wild horses and leading them in to better lives, care and connections with humanity, especially youth, was beautiful to witness and hear about. If you want connect with Kevin or learn more about how to find the education, training and possibilites inherent in owning a mustang or wild horse, click the article below:https://mypubliclands.tumblr.com/post/128849059547/blm-idaho-engages-youth-with-wild-horsesSpecial thanks to Lisa Dierson who connected us to Julianne Neal (Camden, SC), of JA Media Productions, for the audio excerpt from her panel video for The Mustang SummJust says "buy the book on Amazon!"Support the showConnect with me in the following ways:catcaldwellmyers@gmail.comwww.catcaldwellmyers.com@catcaldwellmyers@adventureparadoxThe Adventure Paradox Podcast Page (Fb)

This episode has mentions of violence of dueling, listener's discretion is advised. Mariam sits down with Stuart Sanders to discuss his newest book, Anatomy of a Duel: Secession, Civil War, and the Evolution of Kentucky Violence. They talk about his role and artifacts at the Kentucky Historical Society, why dueling was so embraced in Kentucky (Henry Clay himself dueled more than once), and Stuart's previous and upcoming projects. Stuart is the Director of Research and Publications for the Kentucky Historical Society and has written four other books exploring interpersonal violence in the Civil War Era.Anatomy of a Duel: Secession, Civil War, and the Evolution of Kentucky Violence examines why white male Kentuckians engaged in the "honor culture" of duels and provides fascinating narratives that trace the lives of duelists. Stuart W. Sanders explores why, during a time when Americans were killing one another in open, brutal warfare, William T. Casto and Colonel Leonidas Metcalfe engaged in the process of negotiating and fighting a duel. The book is available for checkout at the Lexington Public Library and for purchase at your local bookstore.During the episode, Stuart mentions a memento ring from a duel that is available to view online. You can see it at the Kentucky Historical Society's online archive.

In this episode, Stacy shares insights from her recent experiences at two horse shows in Kentucky and answers a listener's question regarding preparing for a Freestyle reining class and showing bridleless. She attended a NRHA (National Reining Horse Association) show in Frankfort and the Liberty Festival at the Kentucky Horse Park, which was organized by the International Liberty Horse Association. Stacy observed that both experiences had similarities, emphasizing the importance of accuracy, exposure to different environments, and connecting with like-minded people. For the listener interested in Freestyle reining, Stacy recommends starting by participating in ILHA home shows and joining a local club. She advises practicing both reining and walk and trot transitions, emphasizing the transition to bridleless riding in various settings. Stacy offers valuable advice for transitioning to bridleless showing, suggesting that riders can commit to not using reins in regular shows to practice. Additionally, she encourages creating a local club to host liberty shows and facilitate an environment for training. Stacy's podcast provides a wealth of information and personal experiences to help horse enthusiasts understand, enjoy, and successfully train their horses while sharing insights from her own journey in the world of horse shows. Join us as this week Duane returns with an interview with Karen Kasper, world-renowned artist who may be most recently remembered for her recent sculpture of "Goldie" who has traveled throughout the country as an Arabian representative. Karen is far more than Goldie! She shares her experiences and introduction to the Arabian Horse - through pictures and art, and her later finally interacting with them in person. From there she took the leap into painting, where she she's leaned on her inspiration from classical artist renditions to help her specialize in detail, expression, and, for lack of a better word - their essence. It was suggested to her that, based on her style, she might excel at sculpting - and from her first cast it was clear that was true. Since then, Karen has had an incredible career as an equine artist and sculptor. Her work is the first contemporary sculpture of Arabians featured in the Al Marah Arabian Horse Galleries, where they are residing today. For this alone, a trip to the Kentucky Horse Park is certainly worth it. You can catch more examples at her website: www.karenkasper.com, and reach the artist at kkasper@karenkasper.com.
