Rosston Meyer is a designer, paper engineer and publisher who creates pop-up books, cards and prints with contemporary visual artists through his company Poposition Press. He's gained a reputation among collectors for projects like Pop-Up Funk and The Pop-Up Art Book. Creating pop ups out of existing or new works, Rosston has released books from artists ranging from Andy Warhol, Junko Mizuno, Jim Mahfood, Kristen Liu-Wong, Mike Giant, Skinner, Dalek and Sandra Chevrier. On this episode, he explains that the greatest challenge in design is not making the art pop up but rather being able to get it to return into the page mechanically time after time.

Jim Mahfood’s art is unlike anything found in the pages of comics. He’s gonzo, eclectic, kinetic, unable to be jammed into any one category. On top of comics, his art has graced animation, galleries, advertisements and anywhere there’s a surface to make art. Growing up in Saint Louis, Missouri, Mahfood (aka Food One) fell in love with comics and hip-hop (art in general). He would go on to make his own comics as a teenager, eventually attending the Kansas City Art Institute. Art and comic books are in Mahfood’s blood. There’s no way he wouldn’t throw himself into his work and create art professionally. During his career, Mahfood has worked with every heavy hitting comic book publisher and has strong roots as a freelancer. Some of his comics work includes the Clerks comic (written by Kevin Smith), Everybody Loves Tank Girl, his creator-owned Grrl Scouts series, MarijuanaMan (with Ziggy Marley & Joe Casey), Los Angeles Ink Stains, Howard the Human, Shitty Dark Knight and countless other projects. Wits’ End host Shah Emami and Mahfood talk about the dedication needed to be an artist, dealing with rejection and criticism, the impact of Frank Miller’s work and their favorite Miller comics, the future of creative freedom, the sense of community in comic shops and more! Episode 8 with the great Jim Mahfood! Jim is one of the most unique and prolific comic book illustrators doing it. He's worked on some of the dopest projects around from Spectacular Spider Man, Tank Girl and Clerks to Grrl Scouts, one of his earlier titles which is currently being developed into an animated series. He's also collaborated on projects with MF Doom, Slug & Murs and DJ-Z-trip, just to name a few. We discuss the trials of developing a style and work flow as a younger artist and how his experiences and travels have influenced his uniquely wild style of illustration and live art over the years. Enjoy the show and check out the links below for regular updates of his work on his Instagram and his website. @jimmahfood https://www.jimmahfood.com/

Sup fellow kids? In this mega-epic, over-the-top, super funkified fifth installment of ReMarvel, I'm gonna take you deep into the underground, when we take a look at the Generation X Underground Special, written and drawn by Jim Mahfood... who your host once got a dirty look from! Yes, it's another X-Family book... I'm sorry. Also, I talk about my brand new mutant ability to destroy all the tech in my life and empty out a bank account... as well as share my thoughts on the "current year" Dawn of X stories I have read so far! -- chrisandreggie.com @acecomics chrisisoninfiniteearths.com

Then days later they hit the studio with Kirby Krew member Joey “The Clitigator” Armao and their old friend Joseph Flesche to talk about past Comic Con experiences in this very unique episode of The Jacked Kirby Podcast! •Music- ‘Comic Books’ by Debbie Harry

Local shops and libraries across the city and county will observe the event and offer visitors free comics. First podcast of 2019 and we have a lot to talk about, including an interview Tom did with comic artist Jim Mahfood. Birdbox and the curious case of the memes, Batwoman, Us trailer, new Pirates of the Caribbean, Bugsy Malone, the Oscars host, Tanked, Timeless, The Kids Are Alright, Killing Eve and much more.
In this special episode Tom catches up with comic book artist Jim Mahfood about Tank Girl, Girl Scouts, Kevin Smith, Jay and Silent Bob, Skull Funk Radio and much more.
On this episode we chat with John Siuntres (host of the Wordballoon podcast). In this episode we talk about Stan Lee, Mad Magazine, William Gaines, Brian Michael Bendis, Jim Mahfood, Josh Fialkov, and the importance of perspective in life. We Now Join The Program Already In Progress is an interview podcast with a catch. Just because the mic’s are hot doesn’t mean it will make it on the air. Our show starts cold when the host Saul Colt and the guest get into a nice groove. Sometimes that is immediately and sometimes that can be 30 mins in. The result is you get an interesting conversation between Saul Colt and people he loves and admires without the awkward time at the beginning waiting for people to get comfortable. Reach out and say hi at www.joininprogress.com or @saulcolt on Twitter #joininprogress Our show is now supported by Audible. After our last co-hosting adventure, I realized that Mike and I had made a grievous oversight in our initial Storyteller Bio roster picks, which shined a light on an unfortunate truth about 20th century comics that I somehow never admitted to myself. HINT: like almost everything else in America right now, it has do with race and gender. We take great pains to recognize the problem for what it is/was, and discover that for us it may not really be a problem, because it opens all kinds of intriguing doors for exploration. In the middle of it all, I shift gears to apologize for a slightly body shaming, careless statement I made during the previous episode with Jim Mahfood - a statement which has now been edited out. Yes, it's a correction-cast extraordinaire, but we manage to pack it with laughs, a few fun social discoveries, talk about the role critics have historically held in society, and how hard it is NOT to put your foot/feet in your mouth these days. These extra episodes are starting to be a total blast every time, which bodes well for the quality and entertainment value of the upcoming Storyteller Bio episodes. Stay tuned! Jim Mahfood, (Grrl Scouts, Tank Girl, Clerks, Stupid Comics,) an iconoclastic, imagination powerhouse of a comic book artist, was my first guest on the original run of the Storycraft Podcast, and this is a much buttered-up-through-the-magic-of- editing re-release of that original episode. You would scarcely know it from how much better it sounds! The conversation remains as true today as it was then, in which we cover managing a 21st century art career in very specific ways, how superheroes do not represent all comics, but how they certainly created our love affair with the medium, and how that may be from frustration over industry trends, or just how certain people grow from reader to artist, and the shift in interests that ensue. We also talk a lot about diversifying as a creator to make a living, some of our influences who did the same, and the unique voice that comes along with innovation based on the rigors of a very challenging art form. I'm very pleased to present this again, and am delighted to find it as full of takeaways as any episode I might record today. Celebrate Jim's return to where it all started, and pick up the new 6 issue limited series Grrl Scouts: Magic Socks, starting May 17th from Image Comics!! Stay tuned for more info about the upcoming Live Storycraft/Bitch Talk crossover podcast in San Francisco, Friday June 2nd! On this episode of AGP, I welcome not one, but to great guys to the show, Justin Stewart and Shawn Pryor. Justin began his professional comics career in 2005 coloring a Jim Mahfood-drawn story in Speakeasy's Beowulf #7. That pairing would spark a collaboration that lasts to this day, most recently in Miami Vice: Remix, the Marvel Comics one-shot Howard the Human, and the new Grrl Scouts comic that will be released in 2017. Justin has done artwork for Disney, Image Comics, Archaia, Boom! Studios, Zenescope Entertainment and is lead graphic designer for publisher Apex Book Company. Justinâ??s latest book is a collaboration with artist Tressina Bowling and writer Shawn Pryor called â??Kentucky Kaijuâ??. Think of it as a â??fantasy field guideâ?? to giant monsters that roam the Bluegrass state. Shawn Pryor is a writer and the creator of the all-ages graphic novel series, CASH & CARRIE, co-creator of MOTHERLESS CREATURES with Tressina Bowling, writer for KENTUCKY KAIJU and one of the original co-founders of Action Lab Entertainment. His favorite Kaiju is Mothra. Don't ask him why. So please join us to learn more about both of these amazing gentlemen, and listen to us talk about Kaijus
