Kris and Tara sit down with cartoonist Lawrence Lindell to talk about his upcoming graphic novel, Blackward (releases September 26th!). As well as being a self-proclaimed introvert (hard same), Lawrence is an artist and educator, working in many disciplines like comics, music, illustration, and mixed media. His self-published graphic memoir, From Truth With Truth, was nominated for the Believer Book Awards, and the Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity in Comics in 2020. Together, the three talk about Blackward, the choices that went into it, and what Lawrence is currently reading and recommending. Lawrence recommends: Bingo Love by Tee Franklin When Hazel Johnson and Mari McCray met at church bingo in 1963, it was love at first sight. Forced apart by their families and society, Hazel and Mari both married young men and had families. Decades later, now in their mid-'60s, Hazel and Mari reunite again at a church bingo hall. Realizing their love for each other is still alive, what these grandmothers do next takes absolute strength and courage. Mimosa by Archie Bongiovanni Best friends and chosen family Chris, Elise, Jo, and Alex work hard to keep themselves afloat. Their regular brunches hold them together even as the rest of their lives threaten to fall apart. In an effort to avoid being the oldest gays at the party, the crew decides to put on a new queer event called Grind–specifically for homos in their dirty thirties. Grind is a welcome distraction from their real problems: after a messy divorce, Chris adjusts to being a single parent while struggling to reconnect to their queer community. Elise is caught between feelings for her boss and the career of her dreams. Jo tries to navigate the murky boundaries of being a supportive friend and taking care of her own needs. And Alex is guarding a secret that might change his friendships forever. While navigating exes at work, physical and mental exhaustion, and drinking way, way too much on weekdays, this chosen family proves that being messy doesn't always go away with age. Rupert Kinnard Rupert Kinnard is a long-time activist and American cartoonist who created the first ongoing gay/lesbian-identified African-American comic-strip characters: the Brown Bomber (a teenage superhero) and Diva Touché Flambé (his ageless lesbian partner). Capes On the Couch - Where Comics Get Counseling

This show is going green, as we cover POISON IVY with the help of licensed therapist Sara Boyadjis! Intro Sara - give us your background Background (2:54) Poison Ivy, Dr. Pamela Lillian Isley, created by Robert Kanigher & Carmine Infantino in Batman #181 (June 1966) Originally a botanist who was poisoned to prevent her from implicating a colleague in a theft, she survived and learned she was immune to toxins - attacked Gotham to prove she was the greatest female super villain ever Reimagined post-Crisis by Neil Gaiman, Pamela Isley was mentored in biochemistry by Dr. Jason Woodrue (Floronic Man), and was colleagues with Alec Holland (Swamp Thing) Woodrue seduces her and injects her with toxins as an experiment - she is hospitalized, and when she recovers she vacillates quickly between kindness and rage The experiments also give her the ability to manipulate plants, and her touch can transfer a fungus that gives her a control over people She becomes obsessed with Batman, as he is one of the only people she cannot control due to his strong will, although she has overcome him on occasion Woodrue breaks Ivy out of Arkham to help him create mind-controlling hemp to take over Gotham, but she sides with Batman, who decapitates Woodrue, as she takes the money and runs away - whole storyline was Very Special Episode about drugs In “No Man's Land”, after Gotham is hit by an earthquake and isolated from the rest of the US, Ivy takes over Robinson Park, and turns it into an Eden-esque paradise - she also takes several orphans under her wing - she strikes a deal with Batman to maintain control over the area, as long as she grows food for the rest of the population This is when she first meets Harley Quinn, left for dead by the Joker - Ivy nurses Harley back to health, and the two become close friends After thinking her powers were poisoning the children in her care, she asks Bruce Wayne to help reverse her powers and make her human - she later regains her powers thanks to Hush, although the procedure temporarily kills her (she gets better) #BecauseComics New 52 reboots her origin - she was born with a skin condition that kept her isolated, her father murdered her mother, and in college she sold pheromone pills that mind controlled users - she later joined Wayne Enterprises to study biochemistry, but was the victim of an accidental chemical spill that gave her the ability to control plant matter Creates plant-human hybrid children that grow at an accelerated rate - the children leave Ivy and go off on their own Eventually settles in as antihero, focusing on environmental activism Establishes a relationship with Harley Quinn, but the two break it off after Ivy reveals she loves the planet more than any one person on it Issues - Opportunities for natural growth The greener she gets, the more misanthropic she gets Two specific carve outs: first Bruce, based more as an obsession (18:02) Harley relationship humanizes them both, and is the healthiest one either of them has (27:12) Break (40:42) Plugs for Grief Burrito, Frigay the 13th, and Phillip Kennedy Johnson Treatment (42:14) In-universe - Have Ivy create an area by herself, where she can be alone with plants, and slowly integrate other people Out of universe (49:00) - Address individual with god complex Skit (54:05) DOC: Hello Dr. Isley, I'm Dr. Issues IVY: Thanks for remembering I have a doctorate.  DOC: My experience tells me that no matter what has happened to a person, their training sticks with them. Credentials come and go. IVY: Sounds like the seasons. Spring and fall, winter and summer. They tend to pair up that way, don't you think? I know it's common to think of the full cycle, but that's not how nature works for things to grow. DOC: Some things offset, sure. Now, what can I do for you?  IVY: As a person, probably little. But as fertilizer, maybe you're up to snuff. DOC: *sarcastic* And there are those famous thorny barbs I've heard so much about.  IVY: Force of habit.  DOC: I heard the opposite; you wait for someone to put their guard down, and then you manipulate them or trap them. IVY: You're bringing up ancient history. Those roots have withered. I'm in this world for much bigger purposes. DOC: Well, maybe I can help with your mindset and goals. Keep you emotionally focused, right? IVY: Emotion doesn't matter when you have a world to save. Your experience with…others should have taught you that. DOC: Too many to name IVY: You only need one. You KNOW who I'm talking about. DOC: *pause* There's an easy answer, and there's a hard answer. Which do you want first? IVY: *irritable* I'm not a child waiting for guessing games *calms down*…but if you must know, always handle the thorns first so the delicate petals bloom. DOC: Hard first then. *sigh* I'm not talking about Harley. IVY: *surprised* But she sent me here! She said you put up with all sorts of…nonsense that drives the Arkham therapists bonkers. And she doesn't trust people…EVER. Neither do I. So…who? DOC: I can't give their name, because it's not mine to give. IVY: I knew it. You're a stooge! You don't care about her, or me, or the planet, do you? You just want to be another one of his…lapdog Bat children that miss the forest AND the trees. It was a mistake coming here. DOC: WAIT! Wait…you didn't hear the easy part. IVY: *sigh, clearly angry* make it quick DOC: I agree that you can be a part of saving the world, with the right tools. IVY: You realize you put me through unnecessary anguish by getting your priorities mixed up, right? DOC: *gulp* I apologize, okay? I want this to work, but I'm not going to shy away from your blindspots. What would it take for you to trust me on this? IVY: Tell me about these tools of yours.  DOC: Well…this may not be what you want to hear, but there are some medications that- IVY: *interrupting* I'm immune to toxins, control pheromones, and learned the essence of life itself, and you want to talk about medication?!!! Do you know the harm that Big Pharma has done to humankind, let alone the plant kingdom? How dare you! DOC: Please! It's not what you think! *stuttering due to fear* e-e-e-ever heard of St John's Wort? IVY: Of course. It's a common natural supplement for those with depression. DOC: And psilocybin?  IVY: Good old “magic mushrooms.” Had to keep Harley from trying to bury herself into the ground…she called herself “mother earth.”  Not something to play with. DOC: How about kratom IVY: Are you insane?! Nobody should touch that stuff without knowing the psychological effects even if there's anecdotal evidence for pain…where are you going with this? DOC: That plants are the essence of all medicine, and we know it. YOU know it. I wouldn't dare prescribe any of the things mentioned without more study because it's too dangerous without more information. But that doesn't mean people who care…I mean REALLY care, aren't trying to find out.  IVY: After everything I've done in my life, you think a review board would allow me to participate in any such research? I'm banned for life! DOC: …and when has that mattered before?  IVY: You'd be risking your license on someone who is a lost cause. DOC: No, I'm not saying you should DO the research, I'm saying you should be a PART of the research. IVY: You want me to be a guinea pig. You're evil, you know that? You are no better than any of the fossil industry moguls that strip the planet bare. You would have me die on the vine rather than produce fruit for the world! DOC: No, no, no…you don't get it…I'm trusting you with your gift. You're IMMUNE. IVY: *pause* My body can process things that others can't…filter out the danger…and only leave what's left if there's a way to…extract it without turning me into a green slurry in a food processor. DOC: Ewww…but yes. You could be the source of a natural treatment process that eliminates the stigma of medication management, improves the safety, AND helps with your…let's just say, mood lability. IVY: And you could do all of that…for me? DOC: actually…no. IVY: *angry* WHAT??? DOC: WAIT! Again! My point is that your own version of the world can include those types of goals in the long run, but we can't do that yet. And we sure can't do it alone. You have an opportunity to prove me wrong, but we have to meet somewhere in the middle. I have approved safe treatments that help. You have a grand scheme for how the planet should be. Can we meet somewhere in the middle? IVY: *calmer* You're weird, you know that? DOC: Compared to… IVY: True…perhaps we can work on crossbreeding pollinators with aerosolized melatonin. The possibilities are endless. DOC: An apple a day could truly keep the doctor away. Well, most of them. ***dream sequence sounds***  IVY: Doctor? Doctor?  DOC: *snoring* IVY: Oh dear, I forgot to tell him to use a filtration system for his office. Those pheromones will give him some incredibly odd dreams. I'll have to keep a note of that since most people just become mindless drones. Perhaps there's something unique in his genetic makeup or blood chemistry… DOC: *whispering while sleeping* Lithium in lilacs, who could say no? IVY: Hoo boy... And I STILL didn't get the easy or hard answers out of him. On the bright side, these ramblings make for fascinating research. I will say these sessions are worth my time, at least a little bit.  Ending (60:54) Recommended reading: Fruit of the Earth, part of No Man's Land Next episodes: Moira McTaggert, Gladiator, Raven Plugs for social Transcript References: Anthony Extra Life fundraiser Tee Franklin episode - Anthony (10:04) Harley Quinn episode - Anthony (27:20) Apple Podcasts: here Google Play: here Stitcher: here TuneIn: here iHeartRadio: here Twitter Facebook TikTok  Patreon TeePublic Discord

HAPPY FREAKIN' BIRTHDAY HARLEY QUINN! This episode is dedicated to the fourth pillar of DC Comics, the Harlequin of Crime herself Harley Quinn. It has been 30 years since Harley Quinn originally appeared on Batman: The Animated Series. Since then, Harley's popularity skyrocketed to the point where she has become a household name. So to celebrate our favorite clown girl, we're bring you an extra sized episode with special guests! Our Harley revisit from our original Harley episode would not be complete without being joined by the expert, Violet. She joins Dan to bring new history and insight to the character through her massive love for the character. They discuss the best places for you to learn more about the character with different flavors that may fit your taste where others may not. Harley has so many iterations that there is something for everyone! Violet and Dan talk about the importance of Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Connor's run on the character for redefining who she is as a character now. The duo deserve more credit for the incredible boundary pushing dirty minded work they did with the character to reinvent her from being the Joker's sidekick into a character who now is a multi-time movie star. With this being a very special episode about Harley, we are joined by a few guests to talk about Harley! First up, we have Patrick Schumacher back to chat about the show he co-created Harley Quinn on HBO Max. Our second chat is with Tee Franklin who has been writing the tie-in comics for the series and has a very cool upcoming Harley Quinn journal coming out next year. Our third guest is Stephanie Phillips who is the current ongoing writer of Harley Quinn. Each brings their own unique take on the character and we're so glad they could join us in our birthday special.

Wes and Gevian Dargan talk about the recently unearthed video from DC Comics writer Tee Franklin claiming Mark Waid used racial epithets among other allegations. DC Comics recently hired relative comic industry newcomer Tee Franklin. The minority, LGBTQ and disabled writer has already see her fair share of controversy. First, Poison Ivy fans took offense to her portrayal of the character as bisexual rather than lesbian in Harley Quinn: Eat, Bang, Kill Tour. Then she stirred up the C.B. Cebulski Akira Yoshida controversy with Steven DeKnight. But long before DC Comics ever hired Tee Franklin she created a YouTube video on her channel ‘MizTee Franklin' titled “Dear White Comic Creators your silence is complicity.” In it she claims DC and Marvel Comics writer Mark Waid used the n-word around her multiple times at Baltimore Comic-Con. She also claims numerous white comic creators, including Scott Snyder, contacted her about Black Lives Matter projects or comics aimed a black readers. Tee Franklin took offense to white creators looking to cash in on BLM while refusing to publicly support the movement.   Support Thinking Critical at Ko-fi. Wes is back with another episode of the The Comic Wrap. Wes runs down the biggest comic book industry news and best conversations of the week. DC Comics are replacing Arthur Curry with Jackson Hyde as Aquaman in the near future. This is after Bruce Wayne leaves Gotham, Clak Kent leaves Earth, Dianna Prince dies and almost every Green lantern is rendered powerless. (00:00:00) Bryan Hitch and Mark Waid are working in a yet to be announced Superman Black Label series. Despite Waid's work with the Man of Steel it's hard to continue supporting him. (00:12:49) Marvel Comics fired Brazilian artist Joe Bennett for a political cartoon he drew in 2017. Wes explains why it's a very hypocritical stance for Marvel to take. (00:30:23) Marvel Aficionado Dok joins Wes to run down Marvel Comics 7 Deadly Sins. (00:51:30) Shang Chi was expected to have the lowest opening weekend in MCU history just a week ago. It ended up breaking every major Labor Day weekend box office record. (01:16:03) Fans of Harley and Poison Ivy attacked disabled comic writer Tee Franklin for portraying Ivy as bisexual in comics. (01:31:50) Marvel Comics announced new features and performance upgrades for their Marvel Unlimited relaunch. They also released seven new comics designed for reading on phones and tablets. (01:47:36) Nick Spencer retconned one of the most hated stories in comic book history, Spider-Man: Sins Past. (02:05:05)   Support Thinking Critical at Ko-fi. Happy Pride and happy (early) Juneteenth, dear listeners! On this episode, we decided to talk about a lovely, happy comic book titled, "Bingo Love" written by Tee Franklin, art by Jenn St-Onge, and colors by Joy San. This is the story of two Black women named Hazel (a.k.a. Elle) Johnson and Mari McCray who meet at church bingo in New Jersey as young girls in 1963. They go on to become best friends and fall in love, but are then torn apart by their families because their love is seen as forbidden. But this story—which spans more than 50 years—has a happy ending that celebrates love, joy, and freedom. We loved it and think you would too. In this episode we are reviewing the comic books: Jook Joint, Dead Rabbit, Stranger Things and Blackbird                   (Brian's Pick) Jook Joint from IMAGE COMICS written by Tee Franklin with art by Alitha Martinez                       TEE FRANKLIN (BINGO LOVE) and ALITHA E. MARTINEZ (Black Panther: World of Wakanda) team up for a timely horror series from the Deep South! Mahalia runs the hottest spot in all of 1950s New Orleans. The Jook Joint keeps the jazz popping, people bopping… and the women? The women are to die for. There’s only one rule: “Keep your hands to yourself.” But some men think rules don’t apply to them, and Mahalia and her coven of slain women enjoy reminding them that they most certainly do.                                         (Joe's Pick) Blackbird from IMAGE COMICS written by Sam Humphries with art by Jen Bartel                         An all-new ongoing series from fan-favorite writer SAM HUMPHRIES (Harley Quinn, Nightwing) and red-hot artist JEN BARTEL! In this neo-noir fantasy, Nina Rodriguez is positive that a secret magic world ruled by ruthless cabals is hiding just beneath the veneer of Los Angeles. The problem: everyone thinks she’s crazy. The bigger problem: she’s not crazy—she’s right. Can she unravel the mystery before the Great Beast catches up with her?                         (Rod's Pick) Stranger Things from DARK HORSE COMICS written by Jody Houser with art by Stefano Martino                          The nostalgia-igniting hit Netflix original series comes to comic shelves. Follow Will Byers into a dimension of decay and destruction where he must use his wits and resolve to dodge the pursuit of the Demogorgon and escape the Upside Down.                 (Rebekah's Pick) Dead Rabbit from IMAGE COMIS written by Gerry Duggan with art by John McCrea                           Back in the ‘90s, DEAD RABBIT was a prolific Boston stick-up man and hoodlum, until he took down one last big score and disappeared. Nobody ever discovered the truth: he retired to be with the love of his life. Now he’s back in the mask to save her, but no one—not his wife, the mafia, or the cops—is happy that he’s out of retirement. From JOHN McCREA, the artist and co-creator of MYTHIC and Hitman, and GERRY DUGGAN, the writer of ANALOG and Deadpool, comes the action-comedy-drama tale of Martin Dobbs, a.k.a. DEAD RABBIT, the man who says he’s descended from one of the original gangs of New York City. Get on board with the oversized first issue of an all-new ONGOING SERIES for mature readers.

When Hazel Johnson and Mari McCray met at church bingo in 1963, it was love at first sight. Forced apart by their families and society, Hazel and Mari both married young men and had families. Decades later, now in their mid-’60s, Hazel and Mari reunite again at a church bingo hall. Realizing their love for each other is still alive, what these grandmothers do next takes absolute strength and courage. From Tee Franklin (Nailbiter’s The Outfit, Love is Love) and Jenn St-Onge (Jem & The Misfits), Bingo Love is a touching story of love, family, and resiliency that spans over 60 years. Franklin is in conversation with award-winning television and comic book writer Amanda Deibert.

I wanted to give my eyes a break from looking at screens all day.   I also wanted the same from all the violent video games, movies, tv shows.   I thought to buy a few graphic novels at my nearest comic book shop.   Midtown Comics in NYC by 40th st and 7th ave. was the place to go.   The three books I purchased were Snotgirl volume one, Black Science volume one, and Bingo Love.   Bingo Love was the slimmest of the three.   The cover tells you it's a lesbian love story between two black women.   On a recent Sunday night after work, I caught up on the most recent episodes of Ash Vs. Evil Dead and the Walking Dead.   I didn't want to go to sleep with zombie images on my mind.   I picked up this book and began reading it.   Bingo Love had me quickly emotionally invested.   Smiling, crying, laughing.   All within a 40-minute read.   What a beautiful love story.   The comic book format is a fantastic medium to tell a(written)story you'd find in a traditional book.   The main characters are Hazel and Mari.   I found myself rooting for their forbidden love to be recognized.  The art style is a mix between an anime style and the Scott Pilgrim comics.  It fit the story well.   I don't want to give away too much of the book's story but if you want a feel-good graphic novel?  Bingo Love is it!   Whatever author  Tee Franklin does next, I'm in.   I hope it's in a similar format.  LINKS Bingo Love graphic novel.   Pick it up here https://amzn.to/2wfd6TE  Previous Episode: Life Update https://bit.ly/2w9ZVTU  Ash Vs. Joining them is AEISD's 'man on the ground' Dan Berry, who is holding a number of interviews over the course of the event. Here, Dan has the chance to get in a few words with Tee Franklin, in between her being mobbed by many fans and well-wishers of the hugely popular BINGO LOVE graphic novel which exploded over social media last year after a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign - the book, about the lives of two women, bonding at bingo, coming to terms with their sexuality and finding themselves after lives of conformity, struggle, love and loss, is a cracking piece of work, and has been picked up for mainstream release by Image Comics, Here Tee talks about the books genesis, her inspirations, her joy at the books success and what is next for upcoming projects. Thanks to Tee for her time, and thanks to Dan Berry for hosting the interview.

Amanda and Jenn discuss baby shower books, true crime, short stories on audio, and more in this week's episode of Get Booked. This episode is sponsored by The Vale by Brian D. Anderson and A Girl Like That by Tanaz Bhathena.   Questions 1. Details: My mom is throwing me a book-themed baby shower which I am very excited about. She wants to give all the guests a book as part of the party favors. The guest list is an interesting mix of people; men and women will be there, but most of the guests will be women over 40 with a handful of people my own age (I'll be 30 when the shower happens). The men who will be there like Game of Thrones, but some like video games and comic books while others like military stories. I don't want my mom to spend too much on books, so I'm thinking paperbacks are the way to go. Question: Do you have any suggestions for books that can appeal to pretty much anyone? Or something for the men and something else for the women? Thank you, --Channell   2. Hey Ladies, This has been a wonderful week for me because I saw Black Panther TWICE and I just finished my second reading of "The Wedding Date" by Jasmine Guillory . And I'm realizing I'd love your help in finding some new books, especially books that center black characters as joyful and thriving and not always dealing with the "struggle" of being black. Black Panther showed this amazingly beautiful world where black people are smart and strong. The Wedding Date was a story about a black woman who is desired, loved, and respected in her budding relationship with a white man. As a black women, I'm realizing that I need more books like "The Wedding Date" because I'm weary of books and movies that center the narrative around the hardships of being black. I'd love to see if you can suggest some books like "The Wedding Date". I'd love more chick lit with a black woman protagonist and extra points for multi-racial interracial relationships. In the past I've loved Nana Malone and Theodora Taylor. I've also read "Black Rainbow" by J.J. McAvoy I'm open to fantasy with black female protagonists too, just as long as there's a love story involved, too. --Whitney   3. I realized after listening to a few podcasts (Serial, Murder on Orchard Street, Dirty John), and watching TV shows (Making a Murderer) that I love True Crime. It is genre that I have never read before. Would love some recommendations. Thank you for this awesome show! --andrea   4. Hi Get Booked folks! I recently discovered your podcast and love listening to it on my drive. My TBR is getting uber long, which is great since I've got an extended holiday coming up in Nov and again in Dec! I've recently discovered dystopian and/or post-apocalyptic novels, and have to say I'm totally in love. Some of my favorites are Oryx and Crake, Brave New World, Wind-Up Girl, Water Knife, Handmaid's Tale, 1984, and right now I'm reading An Excess Male. I would love some recommendations that fall along those lines. --Neelam   5. Hi ladies! In the years since I graduated college, I’ve tried to make a concerted effort to continue educating myself. I’m particularly interested in women’s and gender studies, social justice issues, and using history to inform our current political moment. The problem is I’m finding it very difficult to get through the nonfiction books I’m picking up. I do most of my reading during my commute or lunch break, whenever I can fit it in. But when I’ve tried reading nonfiction in short bursts like this, I’ve found that I don’t retain anything I’ve read. I’ve tried books of essays (most recently Roxane Gay’s Bad Feminist) and had more success, but the segmented nature makes it hard to keep up momentum; I’ll finish an essay, put the book down, and not return to it for weeks. So, I’m looking for suggestions for narrative nonfiction that will keep me more easily engaged. Any help is much appreciated! --Teresa   6. Hi. I want to read more books about and/or written by POC. I love fiction, YA, and sometimes non-fiction. No graphic novels please. I love books about culture and every day day. I also love fantasy and magic. Mostly I just want to expand my library to include POC, different cultures, and life through a different perspective. --Jessica   7. Thanks for the awesome recommendations on your podcast; I would like to "read" more audiobooks, but they don't fit well into my current lifestyle. I'm thinking that short story collections on audiobook would be a good way to go. Do you have any recommendations? --Kristin   Books Discussed Mem by Bethany C Morrow (May 22 2018) Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery Name That Movie by Paul Rogers The Awesome Girl’s Guide to Dating Extraordinary Men by Ernessa T Carter (rec’d by Jamie C) Bingo Love by Tee Franklin and Jenn St. Onge The Red Parts by Maggie Nelson I’ll Be Gone In The Dark by Michelle McNamara (recommended by Liberty), trigger warnings: rape and murder The Power by Naomi Alderman (trigger warning: sexual violence) Brown Girl in the Ring by Nalo Hopkinson Notorious RBG by Irin Carmon, Shana Knizhnik In The Country We Love by Diane Guerrero and Michelle Burford (tw: self harm, discussion of suicide) When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco Sherlock Holmes Back Talk: Stories by Danielle Lazarin (rec from Katie on the Audiobooks newsletter) Post: Short story audiobooks

And this year, there are quite a number of new comics devoted to love and relationships...and with curious twists. And speaking of twists, they begin their show by discussing the first two issues of the new Image Comics series, Twisted Romance. This is a four-issue anthology published weekly throughout the month of February, and in issues #1 and #2 we see comics contributions from the creators Alex de Campo, Katie Shelly, Sarah Horrocks, Alejandra Gutierrez, and Meredith McClaren, with short prose offerings from Magen Cubed and Vita Ayala. From there they go to Death of Love #1 (Image Comics), written by Justin Jordan with art by Donal Delay. Much like Twisted Romance, this is a skewed look at love -- and this one includes assholes and drugs. Following that, Gene and Derek discuss one more recent release from Image Comics, Tee Franklin and Jenn St-onge's Bingo Love. This is a unique LGBT narrative that focuses on the relationship of older citizens. While intended for teen readers, this is a graphic novel that can be appreciated by all ages. After that they visit, once again, the wacky world of Craig Yoe and his partner Clizia Gussoni. Weird Love, Vol. 6: So This Is Love! (IDW Publishing/Yoe Books) is the latest collection of their Weird Love series, classic romance stories from the 1950s and 1960s that not only appear warped to our contemporary eyes, but were probably strange to their original audiences. And finally, the guys wrap up their special Valentine's Day episode with an offering from DC Comics, Young Monsters in Love. Much like last October's DC House of Horror, this is an extra-long seasonal anthology issue written and drawn by a who's who of DC creators. Included are stories focusing on, among others, Swamp Thing, Man-Bat, Raven, Frankenstein Agent of S.H.A.D.E., Solomon Grundy, Deadman, the Creature Commandos, and (one of the guys' favorites) Monsieur Mallah and the Brain. Love is definitely in the air this week!
