It's time for one of those huge episodes. Well, it's a two parter anyways. 1961 was not the most ground breaking year for horror movies, well, as far as the big hitter films are concerned anyways. The highs are really high & the lows are few & far between. But, what do I think was the very greatest horror movie that came out during 1961? Well, here we have the top 3. A slew of also rans. Some special guests. Several pints of beer and over 2 hours of running time split over 2 episodes. Mother Mothra swoops into this sequel to 2002's Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla that is also, shockingly, a sequel to our queen's 1961 debut! We talk about the swerve into fantasy and reverence for the original Mothra film -- including bringing back Hottest Man Alive Hiroshi Koizumi to reprise his role -- while tackling the "built a robot out of Godzilla bones" moral questions the first film ignored. We also get into the mechanic protagonist, Showa-inspired effects, lots of Super Sentai cast members, and more!Plus, a special appearance by former guest Donny Winter!YouTube | Growing Up Godzilla | PublicationsCover Art by: Ryan aka DearZeus (Bluesky)Part of The Glitterjaw Queer Podcast CollectivePatreon | DiscordEmail: skreeonkpodcast@gmail.comTheme song: "BIO WARS - Synth Cover" by Kweer KaijuSources include: Godzilla: The First 70 Years by Steve Ryfle and Ed GodziszewskiMasaaki Tezuka InterviewWikizilla

“What Is Starfleet?” The long-teased documentary by Umberto Ortegas has finally been released. “Starfleet presents themselves as our quadrant's shining example of duty, honor, peacekeeping,” says the little brother of Erica Ortegas, who flies the ship. “But what separates a federation from an empire? Both colonize. Both impose their laws and doctrines on others. Are they explorers as they claim? Or soldiers as they appear? They call their vessels starships. What distinguishes them from warships?” Filming a mission during which the Enterprise is ordered to transport cargo that turns out to be a sentient being that turns out to have been transformed into a weapon certainly begs answers to those questions. As viewers, we watch the findings of this young investigative reporter unfold and lead him down a path he may not have expected. The skyline cracked open in a bright flash. Buildings around us collapsed into dust. There was no way out. Sirens wailed, the air stank of ozone, and there was a huge, deep roar that shook the ground around us. Then came another roar and another. Suddenly, we saw Mothra through the smoke. There was also King Ghidorah looming over the skyline. Then Megalon burst from the rubble. Finally, we saw the king of monsters. Godzilla's on island time until Ebirah and Mothra crash the party, while a terrorist organization enslaves Infant Island natives for their nefarious plans. But before things get too serious, the jazz music, teen dance marathons, and wise-cracking safecrackers will keep this breezy flick rockin' and rollin'. Plus, discussions on director Jun Fukuda and the film's hidden themes with Godzilla scholar Beth Bredlau! Today I'm delighted to host comics writer and artist Sophie Campbell on the show. Sophie has recently kicked off both writing and drawing Volume 8 of DC's favorite Maiden of Might, Kara Zor-El or Supergirl. As a longtime fan of the character, I've thoroughly enjoyed Sophie's take pulling from the foundational 70s era and still finding room to make it distinctly her own. We ease into the conversation talking about Kara's appreances on food because Sophie is such a big cereal fan, explore the imprint of the 70s on Sophie including how important fashion and costumes are, debate who the best werewolf in the DC Universe is, why she wanted to include Lesla at the beginning of this new arc, returning to Midvale, and Sophie's love of kaiju inlcuding touching on her Mothra: Queen of Monsters series with IDW. Issue three is out on stands now. Make sure to find Sophie on BlueSky Follow Comic Book Yeti
Long live the king! The Monsterverse swerves into this fanservice romp about mother nature vs. a climate change space dragon, all spawned from the messiest divorce of all time. We talk about the first ever Hollywood interpretations of Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah (and Kevin), this film's bend toward the biblical and mythological, the ensemble cast of all-stars, and the many references that may or may not make sense (what do you MEAN they're the Shobijin?!) We also get into this movie's complicated and frustrating relationship with the 1954 Godzilla film and nuclear weapons. Jake and Jay finally complete their review of the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy with 1998's, Rebirth of Mothra 3. Can a re-designed King Ghidorah save the trilogy? Or will puppet dinosaurs, bad CGI, and a deathmatch wrestling legend doom the big bug's big finale? In addition, there's a lot of Godzilla and kaiju toy and sofubi news from a host of makers - X-Plus, Marusan, Sunguts, etc. - and from a ton of upcoming events such as Siccaluna Fest, Treasure Festa Online, and more. What a great time to be a kaiju fan!Lastly, it's a historic week on the pickups front as both Jake and Jay have two of their greatest hauls to date - and make a big dent in their Top 10 wishlists!

Joy aka Joylenny KawaiiWorld on Instagram joins me to talk about two of her favorite things - Anime and Cosplay. We start things off by talking about anime. Joy talks about growing up in the Dominican Republic and watching her first anime series there. Once she moved to the US, she got more immersed in anime. We're talking everything from Dragonball to One Piece. Joy talks about the kinds of anime that she likes, how many episodes she gives an anime before deciding to continue or not, and what anime she recommends. On the flip side of the episode is Cosplay! Joy talks about how she first stumbled into Cosplay after being dressed as Mothra one year for Halloween. We talk about how she decided to continue into the world of Cosplay. We talk about some of the challenges she deals with when it comes to cosplay, along with the characters she cosplays as. We talk about some of Joy's favorite characters, like Black Cat, and some that she wants to do in the future. Drac's dead but his daughter very much wants to live. She seeks a cure for her bloodlust but thanks to the terrible men in her life, realizes happiness might lie in embracing her true vampiric nature. If you're thinking this sounds like a metaphor for sexual identity, you are correct. This Universal Monster movie explores LGBTQIA+ themes in groundbreaking, and problematic, ways. Plus talk on cinematic Garths, bow ties, and more. Then, Peter Lorre reviews a Bela Lugosi debacle called Invisible Ghost (1941). Special thanks to Naomi for joining it all. Thanks for listening, friends! We'll see you next time for Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992).If you enjoy Camp Kaiju, please leave a rating and review. it's safe to relax into the comfort of you (headphone recommended + read description) There's a lot of interesting sound effects, if that is something that bothers you, please do not listen. About me/this video: I've been channeling professionally for almost 10 years. I DO NOT claim to know the nature of reality (or really much of anything - I sometimes don't even get my own channeled messages til years later), but I do intentionally make myself a vessel for "the highest best most loving good across all timelines." And I was asked to channel a message while sitting in what was (at the time of being asked to receive this message) a quiet kitchen. As I got into the receiving mode and was beginning the message, my mom and her dog came in the kitchen and made a bunch of noise. The Guidance had me continue with it and it was really fun and interesting. So thank you to mom, dog and all the objects around me for adding your energetic messages. It felt correct to continue and to include/allow the sounds - further, one video in the editing didn't keep the mute on it and I don't know how but it was perfect timing and I love the ADHD friendly/satisfying experience all the "added elements" creates! The MP3 was titled: "Embody Your Pure Form" (bounced at 8:10pm) the Logic project file was titled 10/16. The videos were all from beautiful moments in my life. The music is me using Logic and Unison MIDI Wizard and Sound Doctor. Get my meditative pop music here: @iammarisalynn Thumbnail is Leonardo and Mothra sitting on top of a pine bird house with a lucky penny from 2008 resting on Leo's left foot, slightly left of the middle. Disclaimer: I'm just a human sharing things I make for myself that serve me, in hopes you enjoy it too. I make no claims other than that you're awesome and I'm so glad you're here.
