HT2035 - Subjects That Are Everywhere In this month's LensWork Bonus Edition we are featuring a project by Kevin Raber that consists of images of rust. In some ways, this reminded me of a project we published from Larry Blackwood about crows (LensWork #93). What these two projects have in common is that their subjects are common. Both Raber and Blackwood could photograph anywhere, on any day, out their front door or as they travelled around the world. Brilliant. F-Stop Collaborate and Listen - A Landscape Photography Podcast
I personally think that knowledge about the history of our craft as photographers can be quite useful, if not fun to learn about. As such, it was really quite a blast to chat with this week's guest on my podcast, Jeff Schewe. Jeff was instrumental in the development of both Photoshop and Lightroom and is filled with knowledge about the history of how these two programs were developed. We had a great time talking about this and Jeff really knows his stuff, so I hope you have fun listening! On this week's episode, we discuss: Jeff's journey into photography, Jeff's perspective on photography as someone who has been doing it since before most of us were born, Jeff's commercial and advertising work, The history of Lightroom and Photoshop, Jeff's recent foray into Fine Art Photography, And a lot more! Other topics discussed on the podcast this week: The first 10 years of Photoshop. The development history of Lightroom. Making Tin-Type photographs. Join me over on Nature Photographer's Network. Enter the Natural Landscape Photography Awards. Support the podcast on Patreon. Here is who Jeff recommended on the podcast this week: Seth Resnik. Kevin Raber. Stephen Johnson. Thomas Knoll. I love hearing from the podcast listeners! Reach out to me via Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter if you'd like to be on the podcast or if you have an idea of a topic we can talk about. We also have an Instagram page, a Facebook Page, and a Facebook Group - so don't be shy! Did you also know we have listener after-parties on Twitter Spaces? This is a great opportunity to interact with other listeners, guests, and the host (when I can) regarding your thoughts on the episode. We also have a searchable transcript of every episode! Thanks for stopping in, collaborating with us, and listening. See you next week. P.S. you can also support the podcast by purchasing items through our B+H affiliate link.

HT0712 - The Immersive Print I was having a conversation the other day with Kevin Raber from photopxl.com and he kept using the term the "immersive print." I like this idea, but I wouldn't restricted to just a visual acuity and visible detail kind of analysis. I think we can become emotionally immersed in a photograph and that has nothing to do with how much detail it reveals or our ability to see more as we move closer. In fact, I'd rather produce an emotionally immersive rather than visually immersive one.

There are so many talented people occupying this planet. On a recent Friday I was able to sit down with 3. Debra Fadely-Raber, Laura LaForge and Jodie Bailey represent just a few of the contributors to the Stutz Artists Open House April 27th and 28th in downtown Indianapolis. Each of these women has a specialty. Debra happens to be a photographer who likes to shoot many different things. She is married to photographer Kevin Raber and they had the most unusual wedding, surrounded by penguins in Antartica! Jodie is a visual artist who mainly works as a sculptor and hat maker. We are not talking your boring fedora. No, her creations are definitely works of art. Often times she uses unusual items like pencils or pages from a journal to craft a chapeau! (chapeau=hat in french) and Laura is an amazing painter. Each of these women talk about the importance of art and art education, how they got started, how you can become a collector (all budgets) and of course the event. The 25th Anniversary Stutz Artists Open House will be held Friday April 27th and Saturday April 28th with a VIP event on Thursday April 26th. The Stutz Business and Arts Center is located at 212 West 10th Street on the full city block between 10th and 11th Streets, between Capitol and Senate in downtown Indianapolis Indiana. The two-day event celebrates the 25th year the Stutz artists have welcomed guests to their studios where they work all year long. The artists and building will be decked out in silver to celebrate the anniversary. Each artist is creating a work of art inspired by silver to be featured in their studio. Artists will offer paintings, photography, furniture, sculpture, jewelry and more for purchase. Tickets may be purchased and information found at: Stutzartists.com For more info on our guests check out their websites: Debrafadelyphotography.com Jodiebaileyart.com LauraLaForge.com
I had the honor of being invited to the Sony A7 III announcement in Las Vegas this week. Despite poking a little fun with this episode’s title, we are big fans of photography websites and camera blogs, and if you are reading this, you probably are, too. On this week’s podcast, we are fortunate to have Kevin Raber and Jason Hermann, proprietors of Luminous Landscape and SonyAlphaLab, respectively. Have you ever wondered how sites like these operate, are funded, get gear to review and deal with the, shall we say “experts,” who populate the comment sections? In this very animated, on-point conversation, Raber and Hermann talk specifically about their sites, the proliferation of gear chat, and the camera industry in general. Guests: Kevin Raber and Jason Hermann
