Julia Hermann, global market strategist at New York Life Investments, says she is concerned about market volatility for the remainder of the year, especially as tariff impacts work their way further into the economy and as we see some resolution on their status. While tariffs pose the risk of creating an exogenous shock — precisely what Hermann worried about triggering a recession when she last visited the show in February — she says that recession risk now is actually lower than it was when trade policies were made public in early April. She also discusses the firm's 2025 MegaTrends report, which looks at global debt investing, talking about how deficit spending and other concerns will impact credit markets over the next decade. Greg McBride, chief financial analyst at Bankrate.com, checks in ahead of today's Fed meeting and announcement on what he expects from central bankers for the remainder of the year and whether cuts — whenever they start — will have the classic result investors are clamoring for. Plus Todd Rosenbluth, head of research at VettaFi, makes a play on the market's recent momentum with his pick for the "ETF of the Week."

The Intuitive Customer - Improve Your Customer Experience To Gain Growth
Have you ever said “thank you” to a chatbot or Chat GPT? Well, you're not alone—and you might just be weirder than you think. It turns out AI can be more empathic than people. But what do Customers think of AI experiences? Academic research reveals the answers we discuss in this show. In this special live-recorded episode from the SOCAP Conference, Colin Shaw and Professor Ryan Hamilton explore the psychology behind how customers actually feel about AI—and what that means for your customer experience. Ryan dives into the latest academic research on AI trust, customer behaviour, and why people treat AI like it's part of the cast of Friends. Meanwhile, Colin keeps things grounded with real-life examples with his usual “so what?” test. What You'll Learn in This Episode: Why 50% of customers trust companies less when they know AI is involved How AI literacy backfires (the more people understand it, the less they use it!) The subtle “outgroup” bias customers apply to AI systems Why hedonic recommendations (like chocolate) must come from humans How one bad AI interaction can poison the well for all future ones What the hell “personification” means—and why it matters for your brand The surprising emotional tension behind AI adoption (it's empowering and scary) Best Quote from the Episode: “AI isn't human, but customers treat it like it is—and that means it's being judged by human standards. If it screws up once, they'll remember. And they'll blame all AI for it.” – Professor Ryan Hamilton Resources Mentioned This podcast is sponsored by SOCAP International and IA Solutions, who are both as passionate about improving customer experience as we are.
What if a renewable energy power plant could achieve capacity factors above 70%? Wouldn't that make it, finally, FIRM baseload power, dispatchable and “reliable” for the grid? Can ai help? What else is required? The simple answer is hybridization, but a long-time industry pioneer is here to tell us more.Martin Hermann has spent the last 2 decades pioneering the future of utility-scale solar. From founding 8minutenergy, one of the first to bring Utility-scale solar parks to the US, to launching BrightNight, focused now on making solar dispatchable, Martin's mission has stayed consistent: make renewables not just clean—but reliable. In the latest episode of SunCast, you'll hear how BrightNight is rethinking the way we build power plants, why Martin deliberately didn't hire solar industry veterans, and how AI is changing the way utilities plan for grid stability. This isn't about adding more megawatts—it's about turning renewables into baseload power, with capacity factors north of 70%.Martin shares how he's using hybridization (wind + solar + batteries + market integration) to unlock grid value, and what it takes to design dispatchable renewables from the ground up.Expect to learn:

Balzer, Vladimir www.deutschlandfunkkultur.de, Fazit
The French playwright Molière (1622-1673) began as an actor, aiming to be a tragedian, but he was stronger in comedy, touring with a troupe for 13 years until Louis XIV summoned him to audition at the Louvre and gave him his break. It was in Paris and at Versailles that Molière wrote and performed his best known plays, among them Tartuffe, Le Misanthrope and Le Malade Imaginaire, and in time he was so celebrated that French became known as The Language of Molière.With Noel Peacock Emeritus Marshall Professor in French Language and Literature at the University of GlasgowJan Clarke Professor of French at Durham UniversityAnd Joe Harris Professor of Early Modern French and Comparative Literature at Royal Holloway, University of LondonProducer: Simon TillotsonReading list:David Bradby and Andrew Calder (eds.), The Cambridge Companion to Molière (Cambridge University Press, 2006)Jan Clarke (ed.), Molière in Context (Cambridge University Press, 2022)Georges Forestier, Molière (Gallimard, 2018)Michael Hawcroft, Molière: Reasoning with Fools (Oxford University Press, 2007)John D. Welcome to our motorsports podcast where we discuss F1, IndyCar, IMSA, NASCAR, our own racing adventures, and some other adventures!Franz Hermann, aka Max Verstappen, takes the win in Imola with a fantastic move around the outside of Oscar Piastri into T2 on lap 1 of the race! Max closes the gap to both McLaren drivers after Piastri had gone on a 3 race win streak. Although it was very controlled from the front, it was a good race with a few key moments for strategy to go good or bad for some. Two yellows (one VSC and the other a full SC) shook the field up and provided Ferrari an ample opportunity to make up some ground after a poor qualifying effort the day before.IndyCar had it's qualifying days for the greatest spectacle in motorsports this past weekend where none other than Robert Schwartzman driving for Prema took the pole! This is the first time since 1983 that a rookie is starting on pole for the Indy 500. Congrats to Robert and Prema on a fantastic effort! Drama unfolded on the second day of qualifying where Penske was found to be in violation of the rules. They've subsequently had two of their three cars moved to the rear of the field and at the time of our recording of this episode we had not yet received the news that Penske has fired three top employees within the team to make a statement that this is being taken seriously after not just this incident but also from the Push to Pass incident last year as well. Too many mistakes costing the team valuable points in the championship and also leaving a poor stain on the organization.Coming up this weekend: NASCAR is at Charlotte, IndyCar has the Indy 500, F1 is at Monaco.

FRANS HERMANN HAS ARRIVED....The double hat trick was not to be for Aussie Oscar, Monaco may be the pivotal moment for the season. What about Williams, are they now ahead of Ferrari in the packing order? The Alpine saga has taken a sour turn, fake news and attacks on Jack, is this well over the line and do fans need to take a step back? Ferrari are an enigma, what are you doing with the boys in red? Backing them, holding hope or have you put a line through the season?? All the plus much much more on this week's episode of BTRL.
African National Congress (ANC) policies are out of step with the majority - between 65 and 79% - of its remaining self-identified supporters. That is the finding of recent polling by the South African Institute of Race Relations (IRR). In this interview with BizNews, Hermann Pretorius who wrote the report says: “…the most hard-hitting finding is that on all of these policies investigated in this report, from merit-based appointments, procurement spending, the Expropriation Act, government focus on jobs and choice-based empowerment programs, the ANC is currently at odds with its own voters by at least a two-thirds majority of its own base.” He warns that unless the ANC acts “rapidly” to bring the party back in touch with its own supporters, it might fall “even lower than the 29.7%, which we are polling them at at the moment”. Pretorius outlines what former President Jacob Zuma's MKP - that supports property rights and merit-based appointments - would have to do to “take another few chunks out of ANC support by going where the ANC supporters actually want the ANC to go”. Meanwhile, he warns that the Democratic Alliance (DA) should not to allow opposing messages to come from the DA in government and the DA in the political party. “I sat next to Minister (Dean) MacPherson on the panel at NAMPO when he took this rather bizarre position of defending the Expropriation Act and undermining his own party's position, trotting out ANC talking point after ANC talking point. It was quite astonishing to hear a minister either lie about a piece of legislation he's responsible for or not understanding it.”
Jason opens the show remembering owner and horseplayer Joe Tartaglia who passed away this past weekend. Then we welcome Angela Hermann to talk Canterbury Park upcoming season that opens Saturday.
Franz Hermann aka Max Verstappen showed once again why he's the GOAT of this generation of Formula 1 drivers. Is Red Bull Racing back to being the fastest team in Formula 1? At least in Imola, they were the class of the field. Can this continue for the rest (or most?) of the season? Based on the radio exchanges between Verstappen-GP, Max wanted to win in Imola...but with a large margin. - Max Verstappen's most-classic and cleanest opening lap/Turn 1 move since many races? - Oscar Piastri's bad luck with McLaren's pit stops & timing of the VSC and SC - Lando Norris' podium that didn't feel like a podium! - Yuki Tsunoda's pit lane start to a points finish in 10th If Ferrari start higher up the grid, do they have the pace to win? - Lewis Hamilton's comeback drive, and Charles Leclerc's frustrations. What can Ferrari do to qualify better!? - Alexander Albon's missed podium opportunity, but fantastic battles with Ferrari. Should Albon have battled differently with Leclerc? The Thai-British driver reckoned that he could've challenged Oscar Piastri for the podium! - Leclerc's radio exchanges with Brian Bozzi on the Ferrari pit wall regarding the possibly penalty in his battle with Albon - Carlos Sainz's lost chance due to an early pit stop What a way to bow out for Imola! Send us a textWhen did the Holocaust start? How soon after Hitler took power did anti-Jewish violence begin? These are some of the important questions we explore in this episode as I talk with Hermann Beck and the surge in antisemitic violence in the wake of the Nazi rise to power in 1933. In his pathbreaking book, Hermann Beck has documented an explosion of serious violence including murders in the immediate wake of Hitler's appointment as chancellor in January 1933. Importantly, we also talk about what institutions could have done at this early stage (and why they failed to act.) Hermann Beck a professor of history at the University of Miami. Beck, Hermann.
