What is a Naturopathic Doctor with Dr. Maggie Quinn Maggie Quinn is a licensed UCI Health naturopathic doctor whose clinical passion is cardiometabolic health and weight management. Dr. Quinn received a doctorate in naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University California in San Diego, followed by residency training at the UCI Health Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute. She recognizes that each person's experience of illness is unique. She uses a range of advanced tests and diagnostics to evaluate patients for nutrient deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, inflammation, digestive and/or microbiome imbalance, body composition and stress. She then provides her patients with clear guidelines on how to use nutrition, diet, lifestyle and integrative medicines to achieve better health. Dr. Quinn, who is fluent in Spanish and English, sees patients at the UCI Health Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute in Costa Mesa and UCI Health — Newport Beach. Why would someone want to see a naturopathic doctor? If someone is not responding well or having side effects to traditional medicine. Or is someone is looking at all natural products or supplements. We also use additional advanced diagnostic testing to help uncover underlying causes. Also management of lifestyle conditions and looking at a whole person approach. It is usually not only one system effected in the body, usually it is multiple systems are involved. Also we look at trends overtime to help predict things and change habits so we don't wait for the disease to come. Research shows 77% of Americans take some form of supplements. ND are training in the field of supplements and nutraceuticals to specifically help each person. As a Naturopathic doctor we treat patients head to toe. The top 2 conditions; metabolic conditions and autoimmune conditions. So much comes down to stress management, lifestyle and food choices. "Listen to your Body and speak up sooner rather than later...optimize health to live a long healthy life" You can reach Dr. Quinn at either the UCI office in Newport Beach or Costa Mesa 714- 424-9001 and telemedicine is always an option. We live in a world where we’re taught other things {houses, cars, jobs} or people {spouses, friend} are supposed to make us happy. If we live like that, we’ve completely lost our power to other people or things. Then when you have all those things, you can’t help but ask yourself…’This is it?’ The problem is we want to feel happy, successful, loved, whatever, but we’re not our own source for those feelings. Getting an amazing job, partner, losing weight are great things to aspire to, but self-development is about being able to feel how we want to feel with or without those things. In my interview today with Maggie Quinn from Strong Body Whole Heart, we dive into what self-development is really like + about, the journey from unloveable to loved, and how to love yourself again {or for the first time.} It’s a juicy one, and here’s what you’ll learn: How seemingly benign incidents in your childhood can be traumatic + help form our limiting beliefs Actual examples of how what you believe to be true actually creates that in your life {for better or worse} What to do when you realize you don’t love yourself Grab the links + resources mentioned in show at veronicagrant.com/episode24.
