In this episode of Unwritten, Trevor sits down with Jane Voelker to talk about A priest she barely knew confronted her deepest spiritual conviction, sparking a wild journey toward profound healing.Whether you're someone who is completely stuck in a part of your life with God, or just curious about the movement of the Holy Spirit in the world today, this conversation will offer a reminder that God steps in and changes things when we cannot fix ourselves. What You'll Hear:• Jane's realization that her confessed "weakest point"—wanting to keep people at an arm's distance so they can't hurt her—was incorrect. A priest, who had only spoken to Jane for about five minutes prior to the retreat, told her the truth: her weakest point was believing she was unlovable. The priest had been emphasizing throughout the retreat that knowing one's weakest point is essential because it is exactly where God wants to meet us and where the enemy wants to attack.• The surprising result of her initial prayer following the revelation, where Jane invited God into her feeling of unlovableness. Jane thought God might shame her for being a missionary who felt unworthy of love, or immediately demand a fix, but instead, God just sat there with her in that broken part of her heart for the entire hour of prayer.• The unexpected moment of complete healing that happened months later. While brushing her teeth in a little cabin in West Virginia, Jane caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror and spontaneously thought, "I'm so good and I'm so beautiful," after which she never doubted it again. This healing shows that God stepped in out of love for her to tell her the truth, without her needing to try to fix herself or grasp for anything.Hit follow or subscribe so you don't miss future episodes!

The events of this past week -- in our world, nation, and personal lives -- have reminded us of the destructive power of hate. As followers of Jesus, how should we respond? What Jesus asks us to do is really, really, really hard. He challenges us to overcome hate with love. Ok, but how are we supposed to do that? What does that look like? Those are the questions we'll grapple with this Sunday.

Next week we are back with my 200th episode, we can't even believe it, THANK YOU!  Please enjoy this message wherever it may find you today. Sermon Notes:Jesus said, "What's the big deal if you love people who already love you?" Luke 6:32-35Choosing to love the unlovable… that's the big deal. If someone strikes you on one cheek, offer the other cheek too. Luke 6:29 “When we learn to live out the Scriptures the way Jesus lived out the Scriptures, our lives will begin to reflect his Kingdom way of radical love. This counter cultural life will often require us to do the opposite of our natural instincts—instincts that, left unchecked, will only continue to lead to more of the same polarizing, divisive, relationally messed-up stuff we've been experiencing. If we don't choose the opposite, we'll stay stuck in the same patterns and places we keep finding ourselves.Family conversations will remain stifled or fall silent, crippled by the fear of triggering reactions. Friendships will continue to disintegrate as unacknowledged wrongs and unforgiven wounds destroy trust. The most vulnerable among us will continue to suffer while we look the other way and shrink back from getting involved. We will continue to live in the shallows of spiritual maturity, leaving one church after another in search of a place where everyone thinks just like us. We can choose that way. Or we can choose the opposite way of the Kingdom and follow Jesus.” Tammy Melchein – Choosing the Opposite“If you want to be extraordinary, love your enemies! Welcome to God’s Love for the Unlovable and Gospel Rant series and format, Vagabond Diaries. In the last Rant I shared something special and valuable to you in your Christian walk. I said that ever since the Fall, humanity, all sexes, races, all socioeconomic category, whether you’ve had an easy life or hard, each us is born with a deep relentless drive for one thing. It is how we are made. It is how God wired us. We each long for father. By this I am not referring to a a physical paterfamilias, rather that connection, that space, that feeling that you are in an embrace where you are cherished, appreciated, adored, where someone finds you lovable, lovely and loved, where you know, just know that someone has your back. Those connections are very hard to come by. Ultimately this longing for father can only be satisfied in the embrace of Jesus himself—ultimately in heaven. Truth is that he feels that toward you right now, but your midbrain has been so abused, terrorized and wiring fried by bad relationship after bad relationship, your defensive mechanisms wont let you feel it. So Paul says in Eph 3, you need to regularly access God’s power (that would be noticeable) through the Spirit in your inner being before you can even begin to hope to experience the vast love of Jesus that is already yours and is flooding over you like a tsunami. Doesn’t that make sense? So that is the core message in my new middle school fantasy, The Tale of the Orphan Magician. It is hard to count all of the actual or functional orphans in the book, including whole countries. Everyone and every institution is longing for father—including an entire continent. In the book, Amaratzim will become embroiled in an all-out world war, driven by father longing. What can happen? Will they ever feel it? And what is the Great King going to do? It is a book for young teens, but as with all good fantasy books, adults will greatly value from reading it. Today’s excerpt is from the storyteller dragon Rahgornah. He is telling the history of the Trollian war in the context of this lack of father longing. He seems to think that all wars and all conflicts are ultimately caused by that absence. If he’s right, that is an important messaging from we Christians. Here he is. Welcome to God’s Love for the Unlovable and Gospel Rant series and format, Vagabond Diaries. Today I want to share something special and I hope very valuable to you in your Christian walk. Did you know that ever since the Fall, humanity, all sexes, races, all socioeconomic category, whether you’ve had an easy life or hard, each us is born with a deep relentless drive for one thing. It is how we are made. It is how God wired us. You will see why in a moment. Unless and until that is satisfied, every day, we will subconsciously at least keep looking for it, be dissatisfied, and more than likely try to get the itch scratched by other counterfeits. Curious? This rant is an excerpt from my latest Tween fantasy book, hot off the press June 2, called The tale of the Orphan Magician. It is the longest and most gutsy book in the entire Kingdom Quest series to-date. Kingdom Quest philosophy is inspired by CS Lewis and his extremely popular and life changing series Chronicles of Narnia. Even though Christianity, Jesus, the cross or salvation are never mentioned directly, they are there, in the background, being imprinted on the young readers brain. The Tale of the Orphan Magician is about this one drive that all of us have—and where can we finally find satisfaction. The excerpt is a section of a talk by the storyteller for our tale, Rahgornah, an ancient Sakalon dragon who is a keeper of all history. He believes that this singular drive is the main thing behind all history. Interesting? Make sure to like and pass it on to others.Support The Show: https://www.gospelrant.com/ Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

How can you move past the hostility, and develop a heart even for those you find unlovable?

This is a first in a multi-part series that I am entitling 'The UnLovables'.There are certain people in our lives and communities that are quite difficult to love.  From those that betray and violate our trust to that arrogant know-it-all brother-in-law some people require the very best of our character to love because loving them is complicated by their poor choices and character.  How do you love someone who is self-absorbed? Or ungrateful?  How do you learn to love better when the other person isn't choosing to be better?  What about loving someone who is aggressive – even abusive?  These are all fair questions that deserve Bible answers.Today, we are going to take a look at a type of person that I myself find very difficult to love – the perpetual victim.  Send us a text"Remember, you are loved, so go, love better!"New episodes drop on Tuesdays.
