KGMI's Adam Smith and Dianna Hawryluk chat about hiking in western Whatcom County, immersive art from Paper Whale and Allied Arts Children's Art Walk in downtown Bellingham, Kulshan's Trackside location opening for the season, Cinco de Mayo at El Suenito, and Massy Ferguson performing at the Shakedown.
Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Massy FergusonHailing from Seattle, Massy Ferguson has spent the better part of two decades exploring both sides of the country-rock divide. You Can't Tell Me I'm Not What I Used To Be, the band's seventh album, expands beyond that mix of amplified twang and raw, guitar-driven bang. If Massy Ferguson's previous records unfolded like soundtracks for loud, lively evenings at the bar, then You Can't Tell Me I'm Not What I Used To Be explores a different sort of sonic real estate. This is the band's cinematic version of rootsy American music, produced by Damien Jurado—an idiosyncratic folksinger celebrated for his craft as much as his unpredictability—and filled with vintage tones, analog production, lush instrumentation, and the sharp songwriting that's always been the bedrock of Massy Ferguson's music. http://www.makingascene.org
Part one of the episode is our hilarious chat with Adam Monda (guitar and vocals), Ethan Anderson (guitar, vocals, and the occasional flute), and Dave Goedde (drums)of Massy Feguson (and a cameo by keyboardist Fred Slater). We discussed how they started out with their first gig at a farmer's market, working with Damien Jurado, and their newly released album “You Can't Tell Me I'm Not What a Used to Be” their first vinyl release! Part two of the episode features Cindy Emch and Clint Cleveland of Secret Emchy Society. We talked about Cindy's starting the band under the guise of filling in on egg shaker for some friends, curating the Queer Country events at AmericanaFest and being ‘outlaw countrythat lives at the intersection of shit-kickery and tenderness.' Honestly our faces hurt from smiling after these two conversations! Be sure to listen for the plug for Bolton's Famous Hot Chicken in East Nashville. Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Ethan Anderson of Massy FergusonFor more than a dozen years, Massy Ferguson have proudly planted their boots on both sides of the country-rock divide, carving out their own brand of amplified Americana along the way. Based in Seattle, they've become international torchbearers of a sound that's distinctly American, with a touring history that spans nine different countries. On their fifth album, Great Divides, they double down on their rock & roll roots, mixing bar-band twang with raw, guitar-driven bang. Gluing those sounds together is the songwriting partnership of bass-playing frontman Ethan Anderson and guitarist Adam Monda, whose songs spin stories of small-town adolescence, big-city adulthood, and the long miles of highway that stretch between.
The Youngers, Doobie Brothers, Chloe & The Steel Strings, John Mellencamp, Yola, Black Keys, Massy Ferguson, and many more.... "#475 For people who don’t say anything for awhile" originated from Americana Music Show.
A mimosa fueled chat with the charming Ethan Anderson of Seattle americana group Massy Ferguson. He reminisces about early days touring the college circuit, a patchwork European tour featuring a pre-deployment send off show for the US Army's 1st Armored Tank Division, what really happens when the band passes the tequila bottle, and an endearing story of taking his 7 year old son on the road with him. Multiple drinks are almost spit from mouths.
