This week on the Worn & Wound podcast, we're looking ahead to 2022, and talking about what we want to see more of from our favorite brands (and the industry as a whole) in the new year. Will brands like Tudor move from 2021's niche releases (they really made a silver dive watch last year, people) to a more mass market approach? What are we about to see from IWC in 2022? Is this the year of the dress watch? All will be revealed in time, but for now give a listen to this week's episode, and let us know what you expect from 2022 in the comments below, or on Instagram. To stay on top of all new episodes, you can subscribe to The Worn & Wound Podcast — now available on all major platforms including iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, Soundcloud, Spotify, and more. How do you see yourself walking into 2022?  Stepping in with confidence Sliding in like a ballplayer to home base and hoping you are safe Smiling but underneath you feel like you are barely holding on Searching for a place to rest and to try and breathe normal again. Maybe you relate to one or all of these statements. There isn't a right or wrong answer.  I've spent a lot of time listening this past year and I've noticed that all of us are weary in some way.  As we peer ahead into 2022 we wonder what life will look like? Do we want to know?  We long for peace. We long for hope. We long for connection and to not be divided. The scars of sorrow run deep through our souls from the past couple of years and we wonder how much more can we handle?   Jesus says come to me all who weary and I will give you rest. We don't enter this year on our own, but we enter into with our Immanuel, the God who is with us. Jesus gives you His peace and the rest He promises is for this moment and all the moments to come.  Friends, I am so excited. Deb Burma will be co-hosting a special podcast series with me called Weary Traveler. In this episode, we will take a look at Psalm 63 and see how God strengthened King David's weary heart and how this Psalm can help you too.  Deb and I will also share some ideas of what you can do when you are feeling weary.    Music from Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/brock-hewitt-stories-in-sound/through-darkness License code: 27VKNUPK6CPXSHYO

It's been a rough two years, and there's a good chance you're feeling exhausted and quite possibly discouraged at the way your life is going. Things haven't turned out the way you thought they would. You're not sure where you're headed. You may be more than a little hesitant to find out what the days ahead hold for you. I get it. These are difficult days we're living in, and it's easy to grow weary, but I've got good news for you. Tough times have been around since the beginning of time, and the Bible is filled with women just like you who reached a point in their lives where they were worn out and weary. We're going to devote the entire month of January, looking at worn out and weary women in the Bible, and through their stories, we will find encouragement and strength. Because I'll go ahead and let you in on a secret. Though these women may have been at the end of their rope, God was there holding out His arms, waiting to lift them to new heights. And He can do the same with you. We'll start with Naomi. All God's Women is a women's Bible study podcast  and internationally syndicated radio show where we journey through the Bible one woman at a time. Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly.” 6:00 - "I've been in a radical pursuit of trying to figure out how do I learn not only how do I learn these unforced rhythms, but how do I demonstrate in a way to others that makes them feel like, oh, I could enter into that rhythm of life too" 6:49 - "learn to live or to live freely and lightly or, as most translations say. Take my yoke upon you, you know, because I am gentle and humble in heart. So that's where Eugene Peterson, when he translates the message that we're gentle, unforced, right, unforced rhythms" book mentioned: Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers by Dane C. And so it's my job to ask good questions and listen and be patient along the journey" 10:22 - speedboat versus sailboat 11:48 - "I love that illustration when it comes to life in rhythm with Jesus is, are we developing a motor boat mentality? By the way, we're living, are we in control or we telling God what direction we want to go and how fast we want to go? You know, specifically with our marriages and with our kids, are we the ones telling God, I want you to do this in my kids life and I want you? I want him to look like this or her to look like that? Or are we hoisting up our sails every day and saying, God, however you want to blow into my sails, however you want to blow into their sails helped me to be a good, like, non anxious cooperative friend" 13:48 - "in small ways and big ways, we can hoist up our sales daily and trust that the wind of God, the spirit of God, is going to blow into our sales and move us in the direction at the pace that he is setting, which is so un-American." 17:16 - Parker Palmer Clearness Committee - short video: https://vimeo.com/139027540 17:24 - "We gathered some friends. So remember there was a handful of friends that didn't have any emotional attachment to our decision. So that's key. Yeah, is find people that just are working for your good and for discernment" 22:01 - "I'm a huge believer in that. But yours to say no to a lot of good things..." 31:30 - "it's going to take intentionality and it's going to take you guarding your heart above all else. For from it flows living water. 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the earth Not a creature was resting in the peace of love's worth; The tyrant had hung any rivals who'd dare, In fear the Messiah soon would be there; Inn guests were nestled all snug in their beds, Worn out by travel from their toes to their heads; The innkeeper sent one poor couple away. “No room here, but you can sleep in the hay.” When out in the fields there arose such a clatter, Shepherds fell to their knees fearing what was the matter. Up in the heavens appeared such great light They shielded their eyes and quaked at the sight. The glory of angels beamed from the skies And shone the lustre of mid-day in everyone's eyes, When, what to their wondering eyes should appear, But a herald declaring that Christ was now here. With a song to herald the birth of their King, Angels invited them to see Jesus and sing. More rapid than eagles they sought out the star, And fell again to their knees when they reached the barn; Now, Mary! Now, Joseph! Descendants of David! Oh, prophets! Oh, scriptures! Fulfilled in our Savior! To the top of the mountains! To the ends of the earth! Salvation has come through this glorious birth!" As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, A set of wise men hastened to follow signs in the sky, So from the far east, on camels they flew, With gifts for a king, priest, and sacrifice, too. They offered the Christ child a chest full of gold For he was the king the prophets foretold They also gave frankincense, an odd gift for a mother Yet her child was the high priest above any other. The offering of myrrh proved most somber of all, Through his death, this son would redeem our fall; With a cross and our sins nailed to his flesh, He would die for our sins, then rise afresh. Jesus' eyes -- must've twinkled! His dimples how merry! Cheeks sweet like roses, and a nose like a cherry! Love in his Word drew his mouth like a bow, He smiled at his visitors; for all he did know. For on the first night of Christmas, the Word became man, He filled all our needs when he stretched out his hands He surrendered his life so he could save ours With the gift of new birth, we have no end of hours. Eternal life awaits all who receive The heart of this Christ Child because they believe. If you listen, he whispers to your spirit this night HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL WHO INHERIT MY LIFE!

This week on the podcast, Blake Buettner and Zach Weiss are joined by Ariel Adams for a wide ranging conversation that covers everything from the business of watches, to the use of color in watch design, to the place of social media in the watch landscape. Ariel, as many readers and listeners are aware, is the founder of A Blog to Watch, and we're happy to have him join us to help celebrate Worn & Wound's tenth anniversary by looking back and reflecting on all the changes in our little corner of the internet over the last several years. Ariel is in a unique spot to do that, as A Blog to Watch was  one of the very first watch blogs, and has been going strong for well over a decade now. Few people have the breadth of experience that Ariel has, and he's got a lot of hot takes that have accumulated over years in the industry. This is a great, unfiltered conversation that you'll want to dive into whether you're new to watches (there's some great practical advice here) or as experienced as Ariel. To stay on top of all new episodes, you can subscribe to The Worn & Wound Podcast — now available on all major platforms including iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, Soundcloud, Spotify, and more. Andy and Felix have both been around the block in the Australian and international watch media landscape with stints at Hodinkee and Time + Tide between them, and have seen OT grow by leaps and bounds in a short period of time with an impressive and growing guest list (our own Blake Buettner appeared on the show just weeks ago) and a dedicated community of listeners behind them. We're thrilled to have Andy and Felix on the show this week to talk about their first limited edition watch release, consisting of two variants of the all new 39mm anOrdain Model 2 (we'll have a full report on the new watches a little later today). The story of how these watches came about is at once charming and unlikely, and speaks to why we like brands like anOrdain and folks like Andy and Felix in the first place: these watches are meant to be fun, but take the craft and design seriously at the same time.If you're not already subscribed to OT: The Podcast, be sure to check out the show right here, and subscribe via your favorite podcasting platform. To stay on top of all new episodes, you can subscribe to The Worn & Wound Podcast — now available on all major platforms including iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, Soundcloud, Spotify, and more. This week on the podcast, Blake Buettner is joined by Kyle Snarr and Jon Gaffney for a wide ranging discussion on watches, gear, and a whole lot more. Kyle heads up partnerships at Worn & Wound, and is also behind the Cantonment Co. brand. Jon is a long time watch enthusiast and writer who has contributed to Worn & Wound since the early days, and also runs the popular @watchknifepen account on Instagram. The big topic at hand in this episode is Tool Kit, a new plank of the Worn & Wound experience that will allow brands to tell their stories on the website in a thoughtful, engaging way. It's a different way of approaching sponsored content, and we think it's going to provide a new avenue for telling the stories about watches, gear, and experiences that already make Worn & Wound great. In addition to discussing Tool Kit, Jon and Kyle have a lot to share in this episode about their own histories with watches, and they touch on a variety of subjects that take us through a breakdown of some arcane vintage Seiko terminology, what it means to be a collector versus an enthusiast, and why we seem to be drawn more and more to modern watches over vintage. Be sure to hit us up in the comments or on Instagram if you have any questions about Tool Kit, or anything else from today's episode. To stay on top of all new episodes, you can subscribe to The Worn & Wound Podcast — now available on all major platforms including iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, Soundcloud, Spotify, and more. No one likes to wait and yet so much of life seems like one long delay. Because of this tension, most of us wrongly interpret what's happening in the wait. We might think we're unqualified or unnoticed. We may assume God has forgotten or overlooked us. The truth is, while we're often worn from waiting, God's goodness is at work in the process.

This week on the Worn & Wound podcast, Blake Buettner and Zach Kazan sit down to talk about some of the more interesting new releases to hit the watch world in the last week (including an instance of the sequel maybe outperforming the original in the case of the latest from Aquastar), as well as a recap of our recent event with Farer at the Filson flagship store in Manhattan. We also discuss the idea of watch related “dealbreakers.” Are there aspects of a watch design that you just can't get past? Should we try to get past our hangups about small watch details? It's interesting conversation, and we'd love your feedback, so be sure to let us know if you have any watch dealbreakers after listening to this week's podcast. To stay on top of all new episodes, you can subscribe to The Worn & Wound Podcast — now available on all major platforms including iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, Soundcloud, Spotify, and more. Today on the podcast, Blake Buettner, Zach Weiss, and Zach Kazan sit down to talk about what is unquestionably one of the biggest watch releases of the year: the Tudor Pelagos FXD. What is the FXD? Well, if this were Wheel of Fortune, and you bought a few vowels, the “fixed” theme of the watch comes into focus. This iteration of the Pelagos had been the topic of much speculation in recent months as leaks began to hit social media, and the fixed lug bars, unusual bi-directional bezel, and notably thinner case profile offer something genuinely new in the Pelagos line. We walk through this watch's unique backstory, its connection to the Marine Nationale, and the extremely niche type of diving it was designed for. Later in the podcast, the team talks about some other recent releases of note, including a limited edition Nomos Club 36, and the latest from Benrus.
