Unclear and Present Danger

On episode 21 of Unclear and Present Danger, Jamelle and John discuss the horrifically problematic 1993 thriller “Rising Sun” starring Wesley Snipes and Sean Connery. It's lurid, salacious and incredibly racist, which makes it fertile ground for a discussion of the anti-Japanese panic of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Additional topics include Wesley Snipes' career, Michael Crighton's whole deal, and the question of whether it is even possible to forge a unifying national narrative.Connor Lynch produced this episode. This episode features the hilarious and outrageously talented Scott Kreamer. Though Scott has been on the show once before, we got him back for the project he is promoting now - Season 5 of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. Kreamer is always an excellent guest, so we chatted about his love for Jurassic Park and Michael Crighton's initial novel. We speak about the diversity in the show with characters like Kenji, Sammy, and Darius and why it's so important for the audience to be able to see some of themselves in the human characters despite the thrilling dinosaurs. Scott speaks about the children have grown over five seasons and what could potentially be in line for their future, even if it's something after the final season. He mentions that this chapter is closing on them, but their capability has grown a lot through the show. It was an awesome time, and I really hope you guys have fun. Check out the video version on Youtube and the transcript on Comic Book Movie! Stay sassy!

The eighties were definitely a different time. If online videos and articles can be believed, music and hair was bigger. Fashion was full of neon and people could actually make a living selling records and newspapers. An often overlooked phenomenon was the rise of Japanese manufacturing and the sudden fear of a foreign takeover. A subject tackeled within Michael Crighton’s Rising Sun. We follow a pair of detectives who are investigating a murder that occurred at a Japanese corporate party. Their investigation begins to be hampered by the local security forces who are reluctant to give them the security footage. As with the majority of Crighton’s books, it’s peppered with … Continue reading Script 2 Script 14: Rising Sun →

We are in for a whirl.. This week I am reminded to remind you that we are all part of a cycle.  Gun control and the issues we are seeing today happened before.  Michael Crighton wrote:   if you don’t know history you don’t know anything.  you are a leaf that doesn’t know it is part of a tree.   Going to reflect and share details of the 1966 Texas Tower Shooting, the Gun Control Act of 1968, and how all of that as well as the news sounds familiar to 1966 today.  Was Chares Whitman nuts, just evil, had a medical condition or what?  And did it matter?  We use the same excuses today.   This show is sponsored by members of my patreon.com/blackmanwithagun family and friends in business, Crossbreedholsters.com, US Concealed Carry Association and Dillon Precision.   Shout outs to Womens’ Gun Show womansgunshow.com   Charlie Cooks  personalshootinginstruction.com.   M-Wtactical.com   And order your patch today to show your support of the show  http://blackmanwithagun.com/patch   since singing cheers me up, Dylan and Hendrix's version sung by Bones Hooks is at the end of this podcast.
