This week, we’re joined by BookTube royalty and queen of reviews Cindy Pham. Now stepping into her author era, she’s here to talk about it all: what’s on her TBR, why she’s drawn to messy, flawed characters, and how years of reviewing books have shaped the way she writes her own. Cindy also shares the story behind her debut novel, The Secret World of Briar Rose, from first drafting it as a teenager to returning years later with a completely new perspective and a fully developed frontal lobe. Plus, we get into reality TV deep dives, bookish trends she’s loving and side-eyeing, and the hilarious promise of a future rant video about her own main character, because no one is safe, not even her. It will be exclusively available to buy from the Big Finish website until 28 February 2026, and on general sale after this date. As the conflict between Gallifrey and Skaro rages, the Cybermen are gone from the universe. Until now. The War Doctor finds himself on a world ravaged by battle, where soldiers are kept alive by grimly familiar methods. As time is manipulated, the dead no longer stay dead, and a horrifying evolution begins... Seeking answers across multiple worlds, and in a long-dead Cyber-tomb, the Doctor uncovers the terrible truth. The ultimate Cyber-form is coming to join the Time War. Episode 1: Crucible Episode 2: Firebreak Episode 3: Sepulchre THIS TITLE IS NOW OUT OF PRINT ON CD Jonathon Carley (The War Doctor) Rachel Atkins (Vargeth) Nicholas Briggs (The Cybermen) Mitra Djalili (Nesta) Wayne Forester (Jellik / Cardew) Clive Hayward (Vokol) Harriet Kershaw (Tyrus) Nicholas Khan (Davius) Glen McCready (Captain Rorval) Shogo Miyakita (Orgreave) Tracy Wiles (Ensign Zolan) Recorded on: 24-26 March 2025 Recorded at: The Soundhouse Producer David Richardson said: "The Cybermen enter the Time War. And more than that... every kind of Cybermen enters the Time War. Mondasian. Telosian. Whatever their heritage, these half man, half machines will change the stakes in the battle between the Time Lords and the Daleks. But who will this third party favour?" Writer Jonathan Morris added: "[Script editor] Matt Fitton asked me if I wanted to do a War Doctor story, and I replied going, please can I do the Cybermen? What happened to the Cybermen during the Time War? "I've never done a Cyberman story in twenty-odd years of working for Big Finish. Every now and then I've dropped little hints that I'd like to, but this time it's finally happened. All these ideas I've had over the last twenty years about cool things I could do with the Cybermen, I've put into this story." Lead actor Jonathan Carley said: "When I first took on the War Doctor, I thought, 'We know a lot about what the Daleks and Time Lords are up to, but what about the Cybermen, the other big cheese in the Doctor Who world?' I don't think they've ever been done in this era before. "This one was sold to me with the opening line of 'every Cyberman ever'. I was in, I was raring to go, and it has not disappointed - it's totally delivered on that, and a few original Cybermen in between." His co-star Mitra Djalili added: "I absolutely love it. I like a strong female lead and I'm very fortunate to be playing one. When I was a child watching Doctor Who, I never would have thought in a million years that later on down the line I'd be involved. And it's absolutely wonderful. "I relate to Nesta quite well. I wonder how much of a coincidence it is when I'm offered parts like this, because she's quite brittle, she's quite sarcastic, she doesn't suffer fools gladly. She has the courage of her convictions, but she also does have a soft centre."
The following article was brought to my attention by Thane Riddle, on his last live episode of Cloak & Dagger. I'm not quite sure what to think of it as a whole, but it is entertaining and says some interesting things about the realm of fiction. Beyond that, I would… The post Lemurian Time War: A Libertarian “Science Fiction(?)” Experience appeared first on The Vonu Podcast.

Episode Title: "Throwing Daleks Out the Window" - Resurrection of the Daleks Review with The Irredeemable Shag SPECIAL GUEST ALERT: The Irredeemable Shag joins from the Fire & Water Podcast Network for what he calls "The Tegan Jovanka Appreciation Podcast!" A lifelong Davison-era fan who started watching in 1982 at age 10, Shag brings 500+ Doctor Who books worth of knowledge and passionate defense of the Fifth Doctor era. THE STORY: "Resurrection of the Daleks" (February 1984) Writer: Eric Saward (script editor writing his own script) Director: Matthew Robinson Originally filmed as 4-parter, edited to two 45-minute episodes due to Winter Olympics scheduling London 1984 meets space station carnage as the Daleks attack a prison holding Davros in cryogenic suspension. With duplicates, time corridors, Commander Lytton's creepy constables, and the Movellan virus, this becomes the most violent Doctor Who story yet - estimated 70+ deaths! THE BIG QUESTIONS: Should the Doctor Have Killed Davros? The hosts debate the story's central moral dilemma when the Doctor picks up a gun to execute Davros. Jim declares it completely out of character ("That's not the Doctor"). Shag argues Eric Saward wrote declarative statements without explanation. John appreciates the Genesis of the Daleks callback but questions the execution. The Batman/Joker parallels emerge - can heroes cross that line? Terry Nation's Absence: Nation is in America (possibly producing MacGyver) but still approving everything. JNT reveals Nation insisted Davros appear in every Dalek story after Genesis. This is the fourth non-Nation Dalek script (after Whitaker's two, Lewis Marks, and now Saward). The Dalek Civil War Begins: First time Daleks mention Gallifrey! Is this the Time War's origin? The Supreme Dalek versus Davros's renegade faction sets up ongoing Classic Who Dalek continuity. SHAG'S BREAKTHROUGH THEORY: "This is not a Doctor Who story at all. This is the Daleks - which just happens to guest star the Doctor this episode. If you think of this as an ongoing series of Dalek stories where the Doctor guest stars, this whole thing makes perfect sense." The theory revolutionizes the hosts' perspective, raising ratings across the board! ICONIC MOMENTS: Daleks thrown out second-story windows (exploding unnecessarily but fantastically) "My vision is impaired! I cannot see!" Davros going "full spitting Hitler" The Doctor bloodthirstily shooting the Kaled mutant Creepy constables casually slaughtering then chitchatting Stein's stutter disappearing when programming activates That unfortunate foam party when Davros releases the Movellan virus TEGAN'S DEPARTURE - UNIVERSAL AGREEMENT: All three hosts agree: Tegan is completely justified leaving after this massacre. "It's stopped being fun, Doctor." The emotional farewell works despite Jim's overall Tegan fatigue. Janet Fielding's performance is universally praised. The "Braveheart Tegan" callback and the Doctor's "I must mend my ways" provide powerful closure. Shag's observation: JNT specifically chose an emotional departure for Janet after knowing two companions were leaving, wanting each exit to feel different. Wes brings a financial lens, connecting these stories to practical lessons every dentist-owner should apply before buying, selling, or expanding a practice. This episode is packed with cautionary tales, legal insights, and practical takeaways to help dentists think like business owners and avoid costly mistakes.Key PointsEvery practice transition carries risk—smart buyers weigh risks against upside potential.Hidden expenses, irregularities, or non-disclosures can result in litigation.Accounts receivable (AR) and patient credits must be carefully reviewed before closing a deal.Proper due diligence includes analyzing aging AR reports and patient credit balances.Practices sold below market value may offer high upside but come with added risk.Misuse of EIDL loans highlights how financial mismanagement can create rare buying opportunities.Buyers need a strong team: legal, financial, and operational advisors.Asset sales focus on goodwill, not stock or tax IDs—key for understanding practice valuation.

In the first half of this two-part episode, author Rae Wilde ("Merciless Waters," I Do Not Apologize For My Position on Men") returns to talk about her upcoming novella "I Can Fix Her" (June 3, CLASH Books). They discuss the terror of "nightmare logic," Rae's interest in exploring toxic sapphic romance, the "Wilde Test" (i.e. decentering men altogether as significant drivers of plot in narrative), the unique lure of obsession, and the hazards of power in relationships. Rae and Scotty also dive into an impromptu conversation about Darren Aronofsky's divisive 2017 psychological horror film "mother!" In the second half, Scotty welcomes Albuquerque-based actor Peter Diseth ("Roswell, New Mexico," "Better Call Saul") to talk about his performance as Jorg in the new satirical horror film "Opus" (2025), starring Ayo Edebiri, John Malkovich, Juliette Lewis, and written/directed by newcomer Mark Anthony Green. Aside from discussing his experience on the film itself, they spend a few minutes on Peter's background in the New Mexico film and theatre scene, explore the fine line between comedy and horror, and consider the trend towards "the horror of politeness" in film like "Opus," "The Invitation" (2015), "Speak No Evil" (2022), and "The Menu" (2022). In A Psalm for the Wild-Built ,Becky Chambers invites readers into a serene, post-collapse world where a wandering tea monk named Dex crosses paths with a curious robot, sparking a journey of introspection and philosophical wonder. Together, they explore what it means to be content, connected, and truly alive in a world that has learned to live gently. My guest this week is Emily James, a marketing strategist who moved to Richmond 15 years ago to attend VCU and forgot to leave after graduation. Growing up, she always had her nose in a book and rediscovered her love of reading as an adult thanks to the pandemic, motherhood, and the Libby app. When she's not lost in a good story, you can find her watching reality TV, playing tabletop games, or spending time with her family. Our protagonist, Dex, is a tea monk who makes teas personalized for whoever they are helping, so our drink this week is tea—whatever your favorite version may be. Join us as we embark on this enlightening journey through the lore of Doctor Who, examining the multifaceted nature of one of its most pivotal characters. The illustrious character of Rassilon, a foundational figure within the Doctor Who universe, is the focal point of this comprehensive discussion led by co-hosts Joshua Noel and Justin Coleman. Rassilon, revered as the architect of Time Lord society on Gallifrey, is portrayed not merely as a historical figure but as a complex entity embodying both wisdom and ambition. The co-hosts delve into Rassilon's mythological representation throughout the classic series, where he is often depicted as a ghostly presence, a figure whose intellect rivals that of the Doctor himself. This episode intricately explores Rassilon's role in defining the moral and political landscape of Gallifrey, emphasizing his contributions to Time Lord culture, including the codification of regeneration and the creation of the time vortex. The conversation also highlights the paradoxes of Rassilon's character, juxtaposing his image as a benevolent leader with the underlying currents of power and tyranny that define his legacy. Engaging anecdotes and thoughtful analyses enrich the narrative, allowing listeners to appreciate the intricate lore surrounding Rassilon and his significance in the broader tapestry of Doctor Who history.Takeaways: Rassilon is portrayed as a multifaceted character, embodying both wisdom and ambition within Time Lord society. The character's evolution from a revered founder to a tyrannical figure raises questions about power and morality. Rassilon's influence on the Time Lords is profound, shaping their societal structure and technological advancements. The dichotomy between Rassilon and the Doctor illustrates a conflict between power and benevolence in leadership.
