This month we read and review Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune. Like all of our reviews, the first part is spoiler free. Here's a little about Under the Whispering Door:When a reaper comes to collect Wallace from his own funeral, Wallace begins to suspect he might be dead. And when Hugo, the owner of a peculiar tea shop, promises to help him cross over, Wallace decides he's definitely dead. But even in death he's not ready to abandon the life he barely lived, so when Wallace is given one week to cross over, he sets about living a lifetime in seven days.Hilarious, haunting, and kind, Under the Whispering Door is an uplifting story about a life spent at the office and a death spent building a home.We hope you enjoy the episode!Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!):https://uppbeat.io/t/brock-hewitt-stories-in-sound/living-watersLicense code: SVLSBTOWITFRT37NDo you have a book you'd like us to review on this show? Hello! Hi! This is another Bonus episode of the newest podcast for the Medium Lady community- it's Medium Lady Reads! In Episode 2 Erin and Jillian are going to be sharing a love letter to one of their current favorite contemporary authors… TJ Klune. In this episode, Jilian and Erin discuss TJ Klune's three most recent contemporary adult novels: The House in the Cerulean Sea (2020), Under the Whispering Door (2021), and his most recent book In the Lives of Puppets, which came out in April of 2023.  When both women read all three books and loved them all, it cemented the love they have for the author, TJ Klune.  In This Episode: Erin and Jillian check in to see how each other's reading has been going over the last few weeks. Jillian shares some fun facts about TJ Klune and some of his novels. A brief overview of all three novels Erin and Jillian each rank the books, and each has a different ranking for all three! Listen to hear who listed what book first. It comes as no surprise that TJ Klune, as an author, has quite a few strengths, Jillian and Erin discuss some of those in this episode. They also discuss Klune's weaknesses Erin and Jillian introduce a new segment to their show – “Hot Takes” – A hot take is an opinion, usually formed off the cuff with little research, sometimes provocative.  This episode's hot take is Goodreads ratings – Trustworthy or Trash? Jillian and Erin wrap up with “The Holds List.” Both women have a very strong passion for the public library and so they discuss which books they have waiting for them on hold and which ones they're most excited foR Books Mentioned in This Episode: The House in the Cerulean Sea - TJ Klune Under the Whispering Door - TJ Klune In the Lives of Puppets - TJ Klune Fourth Wing - Rebecca Yarros Hijab Butch Blues - Lamya H. For our first Pride Month read, we're discussing Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune. For Wallace Price, death is just a beginning. When he is brought to Charon's Cross, a tea shop and way station for the dead, he meets and befriends several people, including ferryman and proprietor of the tea shop, Hugo, who help him to realize that it's never to late to develop compassion, empathy, or to be brave. We have previously discussed House in the Cerulean Sea by the same author and were delighted to read another of his books. Happy Pride!

Y'all already know how much I love Canadians, and today you get to hear from one of my favorite ones. I've previously interviewed Erin Walker before on Episode 101: Cookbook-Palooza with the women of the Three Kitchens Podcast. Their mission is to inspire fellow home cooks to try something new and have fun in the kitchen. They take a deep dive into a recipe, giving ideas and tips for making it, and they also talk to interesting guests from the food world. Today I get a solo show with Erin, who is a mother, knitter, lover of the great outdoors and (of course) an avid reader. We talked about the book "Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage" by Alfred Lansing and let me tell you: this is a jaw-dropping story. Erin is the type of human who likes to do treacherous, outdoorsy things, and I am the type of human who only goes outside to acquire more books. But we agree that this book, and the story of this particular adventurer, is an incredible read.   Host: Julie Strauss Website/Instagram   Guest: Erin Walker Instagram/Facebook/Website   Join the Best Book Ever Newsletter HERE!   Subscribe for FREE to receive weekly emails with complete show notes, photos of our guests, and updates on what Julie is reading on her own time.   Support the podcast for just $5/month and you'll receive the weekly newsletter AND a monthly themed curated book list.   Become a Founder for $100 and you'll receive the weekly newsletter, the monthly curated book list, AND a personal thank you on the podcast AND a Best Book Ever T-Shirt in your favorite color and style.       Discussed in this episode: Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing.
