Gun ownership requires responsibility.  There is more mental energy required than just owning a gun and shooting it recreationally. (that is what I mean by Shooting is Mental) Training will save you money and save your life.  Seek some before you buy and you'll thank me. Firearm ownership is not for everyone but it should be for anyone who has not given up his or her right to do so. Buying a firearm should be an educated decision not an emotional one. Shooting is mental because you have to navigate fact from fiction, and hype from reality. You have to make some judgement calls. You have to train your brain not to do what you have seen on TV or on social media.  You have to make decisions that are literally life or death.  Am I prepared to defend myself? Am I ready to go through with what is coming after I stop a bad guy?  Can I handle the political foolishness?  Have I been on the right side of this thing?  Who do I believe now?  Where do I get training from?  Who is legit and not a mall ninja?   Shooting is mental.   These days everybody is an expert.  Who do you trust to teach your family?  Are you going to become a competitor?  Going to start a club?  Going to join one?     Then there is the racism, sexism, separatism that is HUGE in this community. Us vs them.  If you aren't careful you'll get sucked up in the foolishness.  Yeah I said it.  Foolishness, it's one of the reasons after 30 years of gun rights activism you don't see me at conventions and events.   Below are a list you will probably see each time you go to a public range, learn them. A more in depth reason for them will follow.   1.            Treat all guns as if they were loaded.  2.            Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. 3.            Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.  4.            Be sure of your target and what's beyond it. 5.            Always wear eye and ear protection when shooting. 6.            Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions before shooting. 7.            Don't alter or modify your gun, and have guns serviced regularly. 8.            If your gun fails to fire when the trigger is pulled keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. 9.            Use correct ammunition. 10.            Learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the firearm before you use it.   Thank you for your prayers and financial support. Now in terms of security, it means to be constantly aware of your security situation and identifying potential threats and dangerous scenarios. This sounds a bit stressing to be aware of risks and danger all the time, specially if you live in a high risk level neighborhood or city. So we want to focus on how to achieve this awareness in a relaxed way. Situational awareness is more a state of mind than a learned skill. This is important not only for security agents and corporations, but also and most important for individuals to learn how to identify criminal behavior and other dangerous threats around them so they can react accurately and defend themselves and others. Cooper Color Code  (4 Levels of Situational Awareness) Condition White: total unawareness. The news is full of these oblivious victims. Condition Yellow: a relaxed awareness, the optimal everyday state of being. Condition Orange: a specific alert has triggered your full attention. Prior Proper Planning Pays Off   Saving money in the shooting sports Update on my wife:  https://youtu.be/gcNlD7EVmZs Not A Sermon     Unless you are wealthy, recreationally shooting is expensive.  The firearm can cost $400-$4500.  Range time for indoor ranges is $15-25 an hour.  Ammunition, targets, and safety equipment vary. If you are on a budget, good with your money or want to save a few dollars here are some tips that will help you do that.  This will be the first in a series, I will provide for you from time to time.  You don't like blowing money do you?  Firearms, pistols in particular are almost impulse buys.  They are advertised by movies, screen heroes and the cool kids wherever they are these days.      Range fees have stayed the same for the most part but there are so many new shooters now that it is now unheard of to have an hour wait to use an indoor range.  Believe it or not, that wasn't the case just a few years ago.    Ammunition increased during the Trump years and hasn't returned to normal.  Your gun food is important.  Back in the day, when firearm tolerances varied and you had to get gunsmiths to “work” out the rough edges and give love to a handgun just so that it was consistent, ammunition was crucial.  Not all guns worked well with all the brands and grades of ammunition available.  It is a little less the case now although you will find out that with practice, there is some ammo that works best for you.  Different loads, bullet weights, etc. in your firearm do different things when you are behind it.  You won't know that from the box or necessarily from the recommendation from your shooting partner.  Depending on your shooting schedule, goals, type of firearm, I suggest you buy your ammo in bulk. I'm talking about 1000 rounds of practice ammo.  And 100 rounds of self-defense stuff.    At the onset, 1000 rounds seems like a lot but if you are shooting a semi-auto handgun that has a ten round magazine because you live in one of THOSE states like I do. And you have three magazine that's 30 rounds.  They sell the good stuff at 25 rds a box typically so you might pay $21-49.00 a box of 25.   Practice ammo- seller & ballot, Winchester, magtech, blazer, Remington, federal     Ear Pro, eye pro and targets,   Invest in a range bag   an Emergency Personal Injury Kit (EPIK)  a rapid-application tourniquet.  eye and ear protection.  a notebook and pen (for recording your rounds fired and perhaps notes on your training and performance)  a cloth for wiping down your firearm and magazines after training.    If you get tired, learn to rest, not quit.Success if being able to continue just one more time after failing or falling.As crappy as things are for you right now, they will be the good old days for your kids, nieces and nephews.Somebody.   This is a little update on the situation.  If you have been following me for the past ten months you know that my wife had a brain tumor removed that incapacitated her. The family has been devastated.  Last Friday, after recovering from being bedridden, and having pneumonia (twice), two blood clots, and fungal meningitis, she had surgery to relieve pressure in her brain.  God clicked the switch and she is talking again.    She's almost 100% back mentally.  She wants to eat and was able to swallow water.  It's amazing and so God!    Make sure you have health benefits. Get long term care insurance. Have someone that will advocate for you if you can't speak.   Visit the sick. Believe and worship God. He is worthy! This week I want to share a story of a cop now in jail for tasing a guy in Detroit.  It's tough to be a police (Anything) these days.  No respect, no love, no chance to excel at your job in the current culture.  Damned by most.  I am hoping you're different.  I am hoping you understand how the system works and will listen to the story of a guy named Mark Bressner.   He isn't alone.  Sometimes it's worse than jail. A Baltimore Police officer who was shot while sitting in her patrol car Christmas Eve has died , according to the Baltimore Police Department. What is the Best Gun for A Woman?   Happy New Year.  This episode is to make you think.   What is the best gun for a woman/female? Fascism  First Amendment Beware of the mob mentality/ group think. I got off topic a little talking about the PC terms of woman or female.  It does relate though to the topic.  I am not trying to offend or trigger you, if this is a touch point but I want to be honest with who I am.   I remember the days when firearms instructors would tell women what type of firearms they thought best. These guys would not do well In todays gun culture.  It was the culture to be sexist, homophobic, and/or racist.   While I am getting my self in all kinds of trouble let me say this unapologetically that I tip my hat, applaud and appreciate all the women, Gay, Lesbian and Trans friends that are around my age plus or minus 20 years that are in the gun movement.  You have managed to get proficient and survive in a culture I didn't realize was as bad as it was.  As a person of color, a black guy, negro, afro American, African American, black not Hispanic - I dealt with color and race issues.  I can't fathom adding that to gender equality and sexual preference too.  Some times, my background, and the legacy of those instructors and living creep into my verbiage.  I apologize in advance. So what is the best handgun for a female?  The one she owns and learns how to use the best.   Kenn waxes on physics for a bit.    As gun rights activist and people of varying groups, I want you to think about why you do things.  I want you to think about the word fascism, group think, herd mentality and how it relates to politics and social media today. Safety Always treat the gun as loaded. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. Always keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Always keep the gun unloaded until you are ready to use it. Never point the gun at anything you don't intend to destroy. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it. Learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the gun you are using. Always use proper Ammunition. Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions before loading and shooting. If your gun fails to fire when the trigger is pulled, hold your shooting position for several seconds; then with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, carefully unload the gun. Don't rely on the gun's safety to keep it from firing. Be aware of your surroundings when handling guns so you don't trip or lose your balance and accidentally point and/or fire the gun at anyone or anything.   Beware of the BS that is big in our community. After President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, and after the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution abolishing slavery was adopted and the Civil War ended in 1865, States persisted in prohibiting blacks, now freemen, from owning guns under laws renamed "Black Codes." They did so on the basis that blacks were not citizens, and thus did not have the same rights, including the right to keep and bear arms protected in the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, as whites. This view was specifically articulated by the U.S. Supreme Court in its infamous 1857 decision in Dred Scott v. Sandford to uphold slavery.    Dred Scott, a slave born in Virginia, was purchased by John Emerson in Missouri in 1820. Emerson then traveled with Scott to Fort Armstrong, Illinois and from there to Fort Snelling, Wisconsin. Both Illinois and Wisconsin prohibited slavery. Scott and his wife stayed in Wisconsin when Emerson returned to Missouri. Since Emerson leased their services to other white people in Wisconsin, he violated the Missouri Compromise as well as other laws against slavery in that region.  When Emerson moved to Louisiana, Scott and his wife joined them. Their daughter was born in a steamboat on the Mississippi River, which technically made her a free person because she was born in free territory. Emerson soon returned to Wisconsin, but his wife took Scott and his wife back to Missouri when Scott served in the Seminole War. Emerson ultimately died in Iowa, and his widow inherited Scott, whose services she continued to lease to others. Emerson's widow rejected an attempt by Scott to buy his family's freedom, which led to legal action. Scott argued that his wife and he were legally emancipated because of their residence in free territories. Missouri courts had ruled in favor of similarly positioned slaves, but his case was initially dismissed on a minor procedural ground. Eventually, the jury did rule in his favor, but Emerson's widow appealed. She had moved to Massachusetts by then and given Scott to her brother, John F.A. Sandford. Upon appeal, the Missouri Supreme Court reversed earlier decisions in this area and ruled that Scott was not required to be emancipated because he had failed to sue for his freedom when he was living in a free state. When Sandford moved to New York, Scott resumed his legal action there in federal court, since diversity jurisdiction applied.  On March 6, 1857, in the case of Dred Scott v. John Sanford, United States Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger B. Taney ruled that African Americans were not and could not be citizens. Taney wrote that the Founders' words in the Declaration of Independence, “all men were created equal,” were never intended to apply to blacks. Blacks could not vote, travel, or even fall in love and marry of their own free will — rights granted, according to the Declaration, by God to all. It was the culmination of ten years of court battles — Dred Scott's fight to live and be recognized as a free man. The High Court's decision went even further, declaring laws that restricted slavery in new states or sought to keep a balance between free and slave states, such as the Missouri Compromise, were unconstitutional. In essence, Black Americans, regardless of where they lived, were believed to be nothing more than commodities. The Taney court was dominated by pro-slavery judges from the South. Of the nine, seven judges had been appointed by pro-slavery Presidents — five, in fact, came from slave-holding families. The decision was viewed by many as a victory for the Southern “Slavocracy,” and a symbol of the power the South had over the highest court. The dramatic ripple effect of Dred Scott — a ruling historians widely agree was one of the worst racially-based decisions ever handed down by the United States Supreme Court — reached across the states and territories. It sent shivers through the North and the free African-American community. Technically, no black was free of re-enslavement.   Justice delayed is justice denied" is a legal maxim.
