From inspiration at Millenium Stadium in Wales, to performing on stage in Wagga and around the world, it has been a remarkable 20 year journey for the Wagga City Rugby Male Choir. Dave Mundy joined the 5 O'Clock Wave Podcast to tell us all about it. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Our first guest is Ewen McKenzie, who boasts the rare distinction of being both Victorian-educated and a Wallabies world cup winner. Ewen talks us through his time in the Scotch College rugby program, how he was picked for Victorian schoolboys rugby honours and even representing Harlequins in the Dewar Shield. Later we reflect on 1991, the big group stage win over Wales at Cardiff Arms Park, the charm of the stadia in the Welsh regions during the group stages and the successive victories over Ireland, New Zealand and England to take the crown. We finish off hearing about the relief of finally getting one over the Crusaders in the 2011 Super Rugby final. Our next guest will be Welsh Rugby Union CEO Abi Tierney, who has a fascinating backstory and tells us about the uniqueness of the Welsh regions, the passion of a full house at Millenium Stadium and the charm of head coach Warren Gatland.

Promotion. Finals at both Wembley and the Millenium Stadium, all whilst sporting a cracking tan, this man has done it all in the blue and white quarters. No, not Ryan Green, no, not Sammy Igoe, no, not Chris Carruthers, no, not Sean Rigg, BUT Super Lewis Haldane!Jack spoke to Lewis about his early breakthrough at The Gas, his struggles with matchday nerves, his debut goal, being frozen out by Ian Atkins and then a cracking couple of seasons under Paul Trolloper - beating City, playing in a JPT final in Cardiff and getting Man of the Match, that end of season form and to top it off, promotion at Wembley. We also talk about how the end of his Rovers career left a sour taste, and how two freak injuries at Port Vale ended his career. The first even nearly ended his life after being bitten by an insect and a year later he suffered a double-leg break to end his professional playing career. Lewis also faced your listener questions!Support the show (https://patreon.com/gascast)
PlaylistStereophonics - Have a Nice DaySuper Furry Animals - DemonsNeon Neon - BelfastGoldie Lookin Chain - Guns Don't Kill People, Rappers DoLostprophets - Shinobi vs. Dragon NinjaLos Campesinons - You! This week I jump in my TARDIS(didn't you know all Dr Who podcasters have one?) and take you back to 2008, this was my second visit to Cardiff but the first podcast I'd recorded there, before that there'll be a brief bit of Sarah Jane Adventures news. Here's the show notes from when this show was originally released on podomatic.com in 2008(apart from the intro which is of course brand new) An audio dairy episode of my holiday in Cardiff, Wales with my friend Sanya Preston. We ticked off many of the sights and sounds of the city from The Millenium Stadium and The Castle but our trip concluded with a visit to Cardiff Bay and a few other locations that were used in the TV shows Doctor Who and Torchwood.
