WDW Radio # 800 - Joe Rohde: Our Conversation on Art, Wildlife, and Culture This week, I'm sharing a special episode from the Archives, as my interview this week comes from show # 232 back in 2011 in honor of legendary voice actor Pete Renaday, who passed away on September 8.   Pete's iconic voice brought life to unforgettable characters in both Walt Disney World and Disneyland, including Henry from the Country Bear Jamboree, Walt Disney World's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (as Captain Nemo), The Hall of Presidents (as Abraham Lincoln), the Disneyland version of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and The Walt Disney Story as narrator, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, Adventure Thru Inner Space, and Mark Twain Riverboat. He was also the Ghost Host on the Haunted Mansion album (which I still have and love).   I feel fortunate to have Pete be able to share his story in his own words and iconic voice as he shares his incredible journey—from meeting Walt Disney to his work on animated films and iconic attractions. So just refrain from hibernatin', and let's enjoy the show, cause he's still got a lot to give. - Which of Pete Renaday's voices do you like or recognize most? Mousetalgia jumps to the Outer Rim this week to talk about Star Wars Land, and we offer our take on the recent news about the planned 14-acre galactic space port. We discuss how guests will enter the land, and wonder "What about Star Tours?" We compare the "orange crates" from 2013's D23 Expo (which suggested upcoming Tattooine-based attractions) vs. the current plans for an unknown planet. Kristen still wants Star Wars out of Disneyland altogether, and we ponder whether Marvel is destined for Disney's third gate in Anaheim. Then, Mousetalgia welcomes Disney voice actor Pete Renaday back to the show to talk about his roles and career with the studio. Pete talks about his start with the Disney company, and how he went from being a messenger at the studio to voicing Henry, the star of the Country Bear Jamboree. Pete talks about the studio in 1959; an uncomfortable close encounter with Walt; working on screen tests and films; and finally moving into voice acting. Bonus: Pete's tips on voicing Mickey Mouse! Plus - The "American Experience: Walt Disney" documentary is previewed at the Walt Disney Family Museum, and we discuss where Disneyland might relocate their goat population once Big Thunder Ranch is shuttered.

I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #232 for the week of July 24, 2011. One of the things I enjoy doing on the show is recognizing and paying tribute to those people who have helped create the magic of the Walt Disney World parks that we enjoy today and have in the past. From Disney Legends to Imagineers, I feel fortunate to be able to share their stories in their own words. And this week, being able to hear from a person who has helped create some of that Disney magic is a real treat. From singing bears to an American President, his presence in the parks has been constant since Walt Disney World opened, and this week, I’m pleased to welcome Pete Renaday to the show. As Henry from the Country Bear Jamboree to President Lincoln and Captain Nemo, his career at the Disney Company started decades ago, and he shares his stories of meeting Walt Disney, working on animated films and his work in the theme parks.
