In this episode of the Who's He? Podcast.... Legend of the Sea Devils - Review This episode sees Phil and Scott take a look at the second of this years Doctor Who specials, Legend of the Sea Devils. But was it special? Scott starts off positive enough but is soon dragged down to Davy Jones Locker by Phil who is less than enthusiastic! But of course they also get stuck into the next time trailer which sees the return of two fan favourites! The News In the news, we say goodbye to June Brown and Sonny Caldinez and say hello to the Peter Cushing Dalek stories which are being released in glorious 4K. Omega's Stats Corner Oh dear.
For this week's episode, we're joined by our special guest actor/writer/comedian Matt Weinhold (@mattweinhold) who is also 1/4 of the awesome Monster Party Podcast. We titled this episode "Dalek Grab Bag" because we set out to talk about the Peter Cushing Dalek movies of the mid-1960s (and that is the running theme) but we're all over the map talking about obscure UK SF shows we like, Doug McClure, one-man plays, tripods, Dalek merchandise, triffids, 16mm prints, Tom Baker and dream casting a new Doctor Who movie. We still think it's a fun, solid two hours but just wanted to be honest about the title. Also, some NSFW language.Pod Stallions FB Group:https://www.facebook.com/groups/2226244254053126/ Please give us spirited debate in our new Facebook group. In this episode, “No (Terrance) Dicks, No Lava Lamps” the Watchers crew tread somewhat familiar, yet slightly different ground, as they discuss the second Peter Cushing Dalek movie, Daleks Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. This episode, Anthony can’t resist a final cheeky dig at Richard Martin, Julie talks about the diminishment of the role of women in the film, Don gets excited over the use of fetish gear, and Reilly ponders how Daleks Invasion Earth 2150 B.C.(!) might have worked out. Naturally, the entire team find themselves repeatedly comparing the film to the original TV serial. For those who want to watch along with us, this film is available on physical media through either Amazon US or Amazon UK. It’s also available for streaming on Britbox US, but sadly not on Britbox UK. Other media mentioned in this episode: The Quatermass Collection (Amazon US | Amazon UK) Raiders of the Lost Ark (Amazon US | Amazon UK) Batman: The Complete Television Series (Amazon US | Amazon UK) Batman: The Movie (Amazon US | Amazon UK) Finally, you can also follow us and interact with us on various forms of social media - Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. In a special edition of the Who's He? Podcast, Phil chats to comedian, artist and cartoonist Robbie Bonham about the Peter Cushing Dalek movies, Doctor Who And The Daleks and Dalek Invasion Earth 2150AD. But along the way, Robbie tells Phil how he first got into Doctor Who, the wonders of VHS tapes, Amicus films and how dresssing up as the Doctor in public is a difficult look to pull off. If you want to see any of Robbie Bonham's artwork, please take a look at his website: http://www.robbiebonham.com
Emergency temporal shift! Appolgies if you were expecting Dick Mills this week, he's been kidnapped by Daleks of the 60s variety, but I hear he'll have escaped in time for next week's show. Change of schedule because last weekend I attended a special screening of the Peter Cushing Dalek movies in Hammersmith, West London there was cake, merchandise and two special guests actor Ray Brookes "The Man With The Knack" from Daleks Invasion Earth 2150AD and producer/director Kevin Davies maker of the documentary Dalekmania, tribute was also paid to Peter Cushing who would have been 100 this week(hence the cake) If you want to send me comments or feedback you can email them to tdrury2003@yahoo.co.uk or contact me on twitter where I'm @tdrury or send me a friend request and your comments to facebook where I'm Tim Drury and look like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/tdrury/3711029536/in/set-72157621161239599/ in case you were wondering. The lads get their teeth into Neil Gaimans highly anticipated story, Nightmare In Silver, that promised to make the Cybermen scary again. Well, that is certainly a bold claim and not one that goes unchallenged! Oh no, Phil and Paul have differing views on this weeks episode which leads to Phil having an internal struggle before the leprechaun on his shoulder tells him to burn stuff, while Paul does his best to change Phil's mind only to fail miserably. Phil also takes a moment this week to think of Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine. A very long moment in fact. There is also a lot of talk about fanwank that could lead to blindness and they also briefly talk about She Said, He Said, the epilogue (yes, epilogue!) to The Name of The Doctor. And in this weeks news, in the absence of any overnight viewing figures for Nightmare In Silver they make some up instead, news on showings for the blu-ray editions of the Peter Cushing Dalek films and in 50th Anniversary news, a photo of Matt Smith that has set tongues wagging and John Hurt lets the cat out of the bag which Phil and Paul talk about. Sort of.
