In this episode of The She Said It First Podcast, hosts Jerrilyn Lake aka Indeskribeabull and Lynee’ Monae discuss a variety of topics, but first Lynee’ and Jerrilyn tell the fans What Irritated Them This Week. Jerrilyn is fresh from her trip to Italy, and she is still irritated by these folks in the airport. But she did have a great time on her birthday. And with Lynee’s birthday coming up, she is irritated with herself. She did not want to do something for her birthday and with it coming closer, now she wants to. During Girl, What Happened, Jerrilyn and Lynee’ speak about Nottoway Plantation in Louisiana burning down to the ground. There have been mixed feelings because the owners of the plantation have turned it from a mansion of slavery and torture to a resort where people get married. The ladies of She Said it First introduced a new segment, Girl Talk. During Girl Talk Jerrilyn and Lynee’ spoke about rules to dating and the first one is like the person who you are dating. The conversation went deeper into Cassie, Halle Bailey, and Megan Thee Stallion. Jerrilyn and Lynee’ transitioned and spoke about Adriana Smith, in Atlanta. She is a 30-year-old woman who has been brain dead for 90 days and being kept alive because she is pregnant. Due to Georgia laws the family must keep her on life support until the baby can live outside of the womb on its own. Jerrilyn and Lynee’ gave their thoughts on the topic. They switched gears to talk about lower income consumers buying most of the luxury brands and what amount of money would they need to stop working forever. In this episode, we're diving headfirst into the chaotic trifecta that is adult ADHD with our gal pal, K Broch! You've heard her voice on the show before, and now she's back to dish on all things narcissistic relationships and why people ADHD are drawn to them. We talk about the thrill of being overstimulated, overmedicated, and overly nice to men who should've been blocked five DMs ago. We get into what it's like to be raised by narcissists (fun!), date them (worse!), and why having ADHD means I'll literally chase any shiny red flag if it seems interesting enough. This episode is for the girls, gays, and theys who are tired, chronically online, and one intrusive thought away from revenge. Enjoy!---Follow K. BrochListen to the 'She Said... Let's!' Family courts were designed to protect families. So why do so many survivors find themselves trapped by the very system that was supposed to protect them?   In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Charlotte Proudman, a family law barrister and founder of Right to Equality. Charlotte has spent her career challenging the failures of the family court system, especially when it comes to cases involving domestic abuse, sexual coercion, coercive control, and parental alienation. We talk openly about the real impact these failures have on women and children, and why change is so urgently needed.   Why is coercive control still overlooked in custody cases? How did parental alienation turn into a legal weapon used by abusive parents? Charlotte shares powerful stories from her new book, “He Said, She Said,” and explains how family courts continue to mishandle allegations of sexual abuse and emotional violence.   This conversation pulls back the curtain on a system that too often silences the very people it should protect. Charlotte and I talk about what needs to happen for family courts to finally center the voices of survivors, and how we can push for the trauma-informed change that families deserve.   Episode Breakdown: 00:00 Introduction 02:22 Family Courts and Gender Equality 03:44 Systemic Failures in Addressing Domestic Abuse 08:07 Sexual Coercion and Coercive Control 16:07 Parental Alienation as a Legal Strategy 34:07 Mishandling of Child Sexual Abuse Allegations 40:04 Purpose of “He Said, She Said”   Links Connect with Dr. Charlotte Proudman: @drproudman on Instagram, X, and TikTok; https://www.charlotteproudman.com/team-4-1  (upcoming events for He Said She Said); https://www.amazon.co.uk/He-Said-She-Struggle-Justice/dp/1399612441Pre-order “He Said, She Said: Truth, Trauma and the Struggle for Justice in Family Court”   Connect with Dr. Z: https://www.drjaimezuckerman.com/ https://www.zgrouptherapy.com/ https://www.instagram.com/dr.z_psychologist/ https://www.tiktok.com/@dr.z_psychologist https://www.youtube.com/@DrJaimeZuckerman   Get my FREE breathing exercise here: http://www.drjaimezuckerman.com/newsletter Register for my on demand virtual courses here: http://www.drjaimezuckerman.com/workshops Order my workbooks! *Find Your Calm / Find Good Habits* http://www.drjaimezuckerman.com/books Shop my new Mindfully Messy hoodie here: http://www.drjaimezuckerman.com/apparel Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

In 2013, the trajectory of Amanda Nguyen's life was changed forever when she was raped at Harvard. Determined to not let her assault derail her goal of joining NASA after graduation, Nguyen opted for her rape kit to be filed under “Jane Doe.” But she was shocked to learn her choice to stay anonymous gave her only six months to take action before the state destroyed her kit, rendering any future legal action impossible. Nguyen knew then that she had two options: surrender to a law that effectively denied her justice, or fight for a change―not only for herself but for survivors everywhere. She comes to Commonwealth Club World Affairs to discuss the issues raised in her memoir of survival and hope, Saving Five, which braids the story of Nguyen's activism―which resulted in Congress's unanimous passage of the Sexual Assault Survivors' Rights Act in 2016―with a second imagined adventure, of Nguyen's younger selves as they―at ages 5, 15, 22, and 30―navigate through dramatic incarnations of the emotional stages of her path toward healing, not only from her rape but from the violent turmoil of her childhood. Nguyen did go on to work at NASA and other scientific institutions, and in 2024, private space company Blue Origin announced that Nguyen would be the first Vietnamese woman to fly into space on one of its upcoming missions. Additionally, Nguyen ignited the Stop Asian Hate movement and continues to help others through Rise, her civil rights accelerator. For her groundbreaking contributions she was nominated for the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize and is a 2022 Time Woman of the Year. Our program will begin with an introduction by Rowena Chiu, a former assistant to Harvey Weinstein. In 1998, she was sexually assaulted by him at the Venice Film Festival, and was coerced into signing a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), which silenced her for over 20 years. In 2017, a New York Times journalist came to her home and doorstepped her husband of over a decade, revealing information about the assault and NDA. Rowena was featured in the subsequent Timesinvestigation, but she insisted on remaining anonymous. In 2019, she finally broke her story on the NBC "Today" Show, live in front of 3 million viewers. Rowena's story has featured in both the book and the movie, She Said. She has given over 1,000 media interviews across four continents, for international news outlets such as: ABC, BBC, CBS, and NBC. She has testified at the House of Commons, the Massachusetts State House, and attended the State of the Union. She is writing a memoir, a novel, and a screenplay, in addition to working as a global #MeToo activist, advocating for the rights of those who are oppressed or voiceless, in churches, schools, universities and workplaces around the world. I have to tell you that this has to be one of the most vulnerable interviews I have had with a guest. Do not miss one minute of this episode. Elizabeth Laura Nelson is a Brooklyn-based writer and editor. I discovered Elizabeth after reading her Modern Love Story in the New York Times (the link is below), which was their most popular article on social media the weekend it was published! Back to that in a minute. Elizabeth co-founded Jenny, a digital magazine focused on Gen X and elder Millennial women and served as the managing editor of Woman's World and the deputy health editor for Best Life. Known for her candid essays and approachable style, Elizabeth has contributed to websites including xoJane, SheSaid, Elite Daily, YourTango, and more. Her work often explores relationships, wellness, pop culture, and modern family life, connecting deeply with readers through her personal stories and insights on subjects like single motherhood, dating, and midlife. After I read Elizabeth's Modern Love story in the New York Times, I immediately played detective to find her so I could ask her to be my guest on Loving Later Life. I keep telling you all, it never hurts to ask! Beginning with a blooper that I decided to leave in, this episode blossoms like a flower being watered in real time. And by the time we get to the end you will have witnessed the full bloom of an incredibly moving story of self-discovery and love. I am so grateful to Elizabeth for sharing her genuine heart with us. I know for certain that anyone who listens to the entire episode will walk away with something they will not ever forget. There are so many golden nuggets unearthed along the path of our conversation. You must hear every single minute. Please join us…

Zelda Perkins was the first woman to break an NDA in 2017, signed decades earlier, with Harvey Weinstein. She brought the systematic abuse of NDA's to the attention of the British Government and international press, giving evidence at two parliamentary inquiries, which uncovered an epidemic of misuse, and pushed the Solicitors Regulatory Authority to take disciplinary action against the lawyer who created the NDA for Weinstein. Her actions have been inspiring others to come forward by her example. She has been campaigning for legislative and regulatory reform in the UK since 2017 and launched the Global campaign Can't Buy My Silence cantbuymysilence.com with Canadian Co Founder, Professor Julie Macfarlane in September 2021. They are working with Government in the UK, the Republic of Ireland, Canada and Australia to change legislation and regulation around the misuse of NDA's. They have had legislative success in the UK, Ireland and Canada with the first laws of their kind banning NDAs being passed in all three countries, however there is still a long way to go. Zelda was named a Person of the Year by Time magazine in 2018,  by the Guardian in 2020 and in 2023 awarded for her Outstanding Contribution to Gender Equality by UN Women UK. The conversation delves into the broader implications of these issues in various workplaces and the ongoing advocacy for legislative change to protect victims. In this conversation they discuss the cultural changes needed to address power dynamics, particularly in relation to non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and their emotional toll on individuals. They emphasize the importance of accountability and the need for a shift in societal attitudes towards power and abuse. The discussion also highlights the concept of moral injury, the challenges faced by those under NDAs, and the ongoing campaign to reform the use of these agreements. takeaways Zelda Perkins broke her NDA with Harvey Weinstein, sparking a movement against NDA misuse. Real Movies Fake History with Gaz and Mel

Mel and Gaz critique the true history behind the 2022 film She Said, the compelling story of how NYT reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey investigated the sexual abuse and misconduct of film producer Harvey Weinstein. We talk about the brave women who inspired the worldwide #metoo movement, discuss the system of enablers that allowed Weinstein to stay in power, and provide insight into the real people. We also fit in a great Rotten Tomatoes game where Mel gets to guess the scores of some of cinema's great (and no-so-great) journalism movies! I'm on stage performing at Santa Barbara Improv. My scene partner and I are playing a game of He Said, She Said which goes like this: After every line of dialogue from one person, their scene partner will then narrate something physical for them to do. For instance, let's say that I say to my scene partner, “I'm so angry at you right now.” My partner then narrates something like, “She said while jumping up and down on one foot.” And I actually have to do the thing. So we're in the middle of a mob scene digging a hole, and my partner says, “She says while taking a cigar out of her back pocket and lighting it.” Being a dedicated athlete my whole life, I never learned how to light a cigar. So when I pretend to do it, I fumble around with it which causes the audience to lose it so much that my scene partner keeps on narrating me lighting cigars. Pretty soon, I'm losing it too, almost crying because I'm trying to hold in my laughter so much. It turned into a delightful disaster on stage, yet one that ends up being one of my funniest bits.  My special guest today can certainly relate. This conversation is a little different. We wanted to take a break from the election-year political jousting to talk to the poet Christian Wiman about Zero at the Bone: Fifty Entries Against Despair, one of the most singular books published in recent memory—part memoir, part commonplace book, part poetry collection. As with his previous My Bright Abyss, Wiman, more than any other contemporary Christian writer, manages to shake off our culture's desiccated religious tropes to write and talk about matters of ultimate concern in ways that are bracing, even exhilarating. How does poetry tap into reality, or, even better, what does poetry reveal about it? How does he think about the relationship between "life and art"? Why does he resist "Saul on the Road to Damascus"-style accounts of religious conversion? Why did he almost not write about his cancer diagnosis in My Bright Abyss? Why might postmodernism be good for religion, actually? How does the love of another person connect to the love of God? And how does any of this matter for how we live? We take up these questions and more.Sources:Christian Wiman, Zero at the Bone: Fifty Entries Against Despair (2023)— My Bright Abyss: Meditations of a Modern Believer (2013)— Ambition and Survival: Becoming a Poet (2004)— Every Riven Thing: Poems (2014)— "The Preacher Addresses the Seminarians" in Once in the West (2014)Matthew Sitman, "Finding the Words for Faith: Meet America's Most Important Christian Writer," The Dish, Sept 3, 2014Casey Cep, "How the Poet Christian Wiman Keeps His Faith," New Yorker, Dec 4, 2023Andre Dubus, "A Father's Story," in Selected Stories of Andre Dubus (1996)Simone Weil, Gravity and Grace (1947)Robert Bringhurst, "These Poems, She Said,"  from The Beauty of the Weapons: Selected Poems 1972-1982. SERIES 2 EPISODE 131: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump under-performs AGAIN, falling short of polling by at least 17 points in the Michigan Republican. And Biden OVER-performs AGAIN, and so does the “Uncommitted” protest votes against his Israel-Gaza policy, in what is looking like a gentle rebuke in the Michigan Democratic Primary. PLUS: LEGACY NEWS MEDIA BREAKTHROUGH: After Trump did a hatful of racisms at “The Black Conservative Federation Gala” (the one that had almost no blacks in attendance) the president of ABC News Kim Godwin emailed people on her staff that “these remarks are as racist as they come…mind blowing. Shocking.” Of course they were NOT shocking and Godwin's response might as well have been “wait – Trump was PRESIDENT?” and that only underscores the media disconnect from the reality of the evil of Trump. But the headline is: SHE TOOK A STAND and did so in writing, knowing it would get out. She may have had ulterior motives (she's been dreadful and loathed on the job; she just got another boss appointed above her; she may be trying to stave off dismissal) and they don't matter. She SAID something – more than her network or any network actually has. It may have moved the needle a bit. COMER DOUBLES DOWN: You wouldn't, I wouldn't. But he and Jim Jordan – with a new jailed witness replacing the first jailed witness as the primary asset in their President Biden Impeachment/Hunter Biden Smear – have doubled down. They've subpoenaed Merrick Garland for all of corrupt Special Counsel Robert Hur's transcripts, videos, etc. If Garland were smart, he'd fight the subpoena and say that of course while it's being ajudicated, Hur can't say anything, especially to the House Committee. Because it would be useful if Democrats began to ask themselves: What dirty trick would a Republican play in this situation. And apply it not just to a subpoena from some whores in Congress, but to the dilemma in Michigan and, for that matter, at the border. Which leads me to a modest proposal: Biden should steal the issue, control the process, and neuter Trump all in one fell swoop. HE should declare HE is building a wall and destroy the feeble minds of 60 million Trumpists. A wall can be anything more than six inches long. B-BLOCK (30:08) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Axios slams Biden for having note cards at fundraisers. Then, a Democratic county chairman finds pictures of the Axios reporter and the Axios co-founder reading questions off note cards. A NewsMax host thinks the DHS Secretary can be impeached for breaking not laws, but laws NewsMax would like to see. And besides the foolishness of the GoFundMe to pay the now $466 Million Trump owes the state of New York, there's a hidden reveal inside the boilerplate at the website that suggests the right may have another “Moms For THAT Kind of Liberty Wocka-Wocka” scandal in its bed. C-BLOCK (38:38) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Well we started on baseball spring training yesterday. Let's continue. Let me tell you the tale of day I paid cash to suppress a story that would have rocked the World Series – the most famous pitcher in the game had gotten within inches of a fight, with a fan of his own team, and I made sure… nobody saw the video.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A week that was supposed to bring more woe for Rishi Sunak has turned into arguably the biggest test of Keir Starmer's leadership. Labour has had to suspend two of its parliamentary candidates for making comments about Israel. For Starmer, who's staked his reputation on ridding Labour of anti-semitism, it's been hugely embarrassing. Nish and Coco reflect on the farcical situation in Rochdale, where Azhar Ali will appear as a Labour candidate on the by-election ballot in a couple of weeks, despite the party having removed its support for him. With the Horizon Post Office scandal having put the use of non-disclosure agreements back in the spotlight, we hear from a woman who has made it her mission to stop NDAs being used to silence victims. Zelda Perkins, a former assistant to Harvey Weinstein, tells Nish and Coco about the traumatic experience of signing her NDA, which she likens to “legal waterboarding”, and why she chose to break it to help expose the film producer's crimes. On an optimistic note, she reveals how politicians from across the political divide are helping her to achieve change.Wrexham FC owners Ryan Renolds and Rob McElhenney feature in heroes and villains, as do three councillors from Warwickshire County Council. Plus find out why Nish has ditched Coco on Valentine's Day, and why they want your Jason Statham inspired film art. Pod Save the UK is a Reduced Listening production for Crooked Media. Contact us via email: PSUK@reducedlistening.co.ukWhatsApp: 07514 644 572 (UK) or + 44 7514 644 572Insta: https://instagram.com/podsavetheukTwitter: https://twitter.com/podsavetheukTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@podsavetheukFacebook: https://facebook.com/podsavetheukYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/podsavetheworld Guest:Zelda Perkins, co-founder of Can't Buy My Silence Audio credits:Sky Newsparliamentlive.tv‘She Said', Annapurna Pictures, Plan B Entertainment and Universal PicturesWarwickshire County CouncilUseful links:https://www.cantbuymysilence.com/https://protect-advice.org.uk/https://www.wbuk.org/
