On this episode of Blood of Kings Highlander Podcast we continue our discussion for the Highlander TV Series Season 6, episode 10, 'Two Of Hearts'. We have a very special guest, the director of 'Two of Hearts', Richard Martin! Richard has directed nine episodes of the Highlander TV series, including fan favorites 'The Valkyrie', 'Duende', 'The Stone of Scone' and 'To Be'.   We return to the Highlander TV Episode 'Two Of Hearts' with director Richard Martin, who provides a special look working on location and behind the scenes with a video of the "dailies" or "rushes" from his 'Two of Hearts' filming location in France. In filmmaking, "dailies" or "rushes" refer to the raw, unedited footage captured during a single day of shooting, which is then reviewed by the director, crew, and sometimes actors to assess the quality of the day's work and make adjustments moving forward; essentially, it's the first look at the day's filming before any editing takes place. Richard discusses his first hand experience working on location for this episode. In this episode dedicated to Greek mythology, Richard P. Martin, Antony and Isabelle Raubitschek Professor of Classics at Stanford, will guide us through the story of Prometheus, the legendary rebel who defied the gods by stealing fire from Mount Olympus to give to mankind. Through his storytelling we will learn about Prometheus' own mythic torment and explore the symbolism of his eternal punishment and sacrifice and its relationship to the mysteries of divination and Zeus' scorn at Prometheus' ability to tell the future. Get ready to let your imagination run wild as we picture ourselves in the incredible theatre of Dionysus in Athens! And listen to Prof. Martin on how in Athens the people refused to bow to a tyrant. You'll also get to learn what Aeschylus' Prometheus Bound has to do with tyranny and democracy! We'll delve into the fascinating implications of the new Pandora, as represented by AI, for humanity. And will be discussing the muses, creativity and the role of the human heart! Professor Richard Martin's major publications include Healing, Sacrifice and Battle. Amechania and Related Concepts in Early Greek Poetry; The Language of Heroes: Speech and Performance in the Iliad (Myth and Poetics); and Mythologizing Performance, published in 2020. In addition to several articles on Greek, Latin and Irish literature, he's the author of publications for general audiences, such as Classical Mythology, the Basics; Bulfinch's Mythology: The Age of the Fable, The Age of Chivalry, Legends of Charlemagne (The most complete compendium of mythology ever published); and Myths of the Ancient Greeks, published in 2023. Arguably the world's first industrial nation, we are now on the cusp of being largely de-industrialised as 300 years of melting iron comes to an end with the extinguished blast furnaces in Port Talbot. We discuss the politics of this extraordinary national moment as well as a round up of the political party conferences this Autumn, the Labour Party's expenses criticism, the Conservative Party's leadership election, and the rise of Reform UK as they turn their eyes to national elections in Wales and Scotland in 2026. Wellington Council is copping backlash for spending over $84,000 on a bike rack that goes largely unused. Reports claim the bike rack only sees an average of just 2.7 bikes per week - even during busy days. One Wellington cyclist, Richard Martin, has lambasted this move as the council warns of rate hikes and water shortages. "We're facing 17 percent rate rises and we're also being told that we may have to conserve water next summer because the pipes still leak - and the council goes and spends $84,000. I'd much rather use that money to fix the leaks." LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The world's first life insurance policy was signed on June 18th, 1583. The person insured was one William Gybbons, who worked as a meat and fish salter, and the beneficiary of the policy was a man named Richard Martin. Curiously, the relationship between the two men has been lost in the mists of time. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly do the maths and work out exactly how much a human life is worth; discuss how, like all good insurers, the underwriters tried to weasel out of having to pay the policy after Gybbons died; and reveal why Ancient Romans used to have clowns at their funerals… Further Reading: • ‘Betting on Lives: The Culture of Life Insurance in England, 1695-1775' (Manchester University Press, 1999): https://www.google.co.uk/books/edition/Betting_on_Lives/3wq8AAAAIAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=0  • ‘The greatest surety: a brief history of life insurance' (InsurTech, 2023): https://insurtechdigital.com/articles/the-greatest-surety-a-brief-history-of-life-insurance  • ‘Life Insurance Day: The History' (Beagle Street, 2017): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CO-auTZ6fcI  This episode first premiered in 2023, for members of

Paul discusses his past trauma and life struggles that have lead to him to where he is today. Last but not least and how I first met him, Paul has a faux-right-wing satirical character called Richard Martin, which pre-dates Stephen Colbert's character from the Colbert Report. Eight years and 200 guests later, Murdock has become a hosting legend! One day, on his way to work as a wildland firefighter, he met a cyclist on the road who had just climbed a steep hill and looked exhausted. He stopped to offer her Gatorade, which turned into an offer of a place to stay, and then dinner, where she told him all about Warmshowers. The rest is history. In his eight years of hosting, Murdock has met incredible people from all over the world. He's seen it all; unicycles, tricycles, families with dogs, you name it. Hi, long time! Phew, October is always the wildest cookbook month—it's even officially dubbed National Cookbook Month—and we've been a bit quiet around here. With two little ones running around the house, germs have been rampant, and my voice just hasn't been cooperating. So we're catching back after falling a bit behind on our fall release schedule and thrilled to share today's chat with Hetty Lui McKinnon with all of you.And now, somehow, it's Oct. 31 - Halloween! I'm a sucker for anything fall. We're in a judgment-free zone, of course, so I'll readily admit that I'm happily ordering pumpkin-spiced lattes. I made chili as soon as the temps dipped a bit after our recent heat wave. I broke out my extra warm sweaters, put them away (see: heat wave), and broke them out again.Tonight, I'm making a big batch of Eric Kim's Creamy Baked Macaroni and Cheese, which keeps it simple with cheddar and Velveeta. It feels equal parts crowd-pleasing (we're talking actual toddlers here) and nostalgic. (Usually, for holidays, Martha Stewart's baked mac is my trusted go-to.)Ah, and costumes. How fitting that we're talking with Australia-born Hetty today as my family prepares to transform into the animated, hilarious Australian sheepdog family of Bluey, Bingo, Chili, and yours truly, Bandit. Wish us luck on the trick-or-treat streets!

Photography is one of the most accessible artforms that exists and acts as a creative outlet and tool for personal expression for so many of us. Unfortunately, tapping into that creativity and modes of personal expression in photography doesn't always come naturally for all of us. Fortunately, there are techniques and strategies that exist to help us get there. On today's episode, I finally was able to speak with one of the most inspiring Canadian photographers of our time, Richard Martin. Comedian Paul Gilmartin is the host of the long running podcast The Mental Illness Happy Hour, where he interviews all kinds of people–from celebrities to friends from his own support groups–about issues related to mental health, addiction, and personal struggles of all varieties. Meghan (despite being 100 percent sane) was a guest on The Mental Illness Happy Hour back in 2011 and she and Paul catch up on what's transpired since then and how the podcast has evolved. Paul talks about what he's learned about mental health over the years, how he approaches his interviews, and how his own life circumstances have played a big part in his podcast. Famously upfront about his past and present struggles, Paul talks about his mother's sexual inappropriateness, his challenges with intimacy, and what it was like to be single again in his 50s after a divorce. He and Meghan also discuss the mental health effects of the pandemic and Paul (who supports masking) shares his theory that some young people will have internalized mask trauma that will develop into a sexual kink later in life. You heard it here first!   If that's not personal enough, Paul sticks around for 30 minutes of bonus content and reflects on turning 60, staying afloat in the new creative economy, being in a new relationship after divorce, and getting better at intimacy while still enjoying his solitude, and how he felt at 11-years-old when a doctor told him he would never have children. (You read that right.) He asks Meghan some questions, too! To listen to this portion, support the podcast at meghandaum.substack.com and listen to premium episodes there.    Guest Bio: Paul Gilmartin launched the Mental Illness Happy Hour podcast in 2011. Before that, he hosted TBS' Dinner and a Movie for 16 years. As a standup he has appeared on Comedy Central Presents: Paul Gilmartin and number other shows. He is a frequent guest on the Jimmy Dore Show, performing political satire as right-wing Congressman Richard Martin.   Find him at: @mentalpod @dumbpile   Home - The Mental Illness Happy Hour mentalpod.com
