Ann Parker is the award-winning author of the Silver Rush mystery series set in 19th century Colorado. And yes, that is Silver Rush as distinct from the possibly more well known Gold Rush. Hi there I'm your host, Jenny Wheeler and today Ann talks about how a close family relationship led to her writing the Colorado based Silver Rush series, how she's combined being a science writer by day with being a fiction writer by night, and why she says being a science writer has been a big advantage in writing the series. Book Giveaway this week Our Giveaway is Murderous May Mysteries, including Book #2 in my Of Gold and Blood mystery series Brother Betrayed, which has also now out in audio for anyone who prefers to listen to their stories. Introducing historical mystery author Ann Parker Jenny Wheeler: Hello there Ann, and welcome to the show. It's great to have you with us. Ann Parker - Historical mystery author of Silver Rush Colorado series Ann Parker: Oh, and it's so great to be here. Thank you, Jenny. Jenny Wheeler: Now just to get our geography straight before we begin. You are in Northern California and I'm in New Zealand and we're about 16 hours apart. I'm right about Northern California, am I? Ann Parker: That's correct. Yep. About 50 miles away from San Francisco. Most people know of San Francisco, so yeah. Jenny Wheeler: That's not that far. I must assume that I have driven up that Captain Cook Highway in the part in the past. Ann Parker: Oh, Captain Cook Highway? I don't know what that is.. Jenny Wheeler: Oh, I thought that it was the Coastal Road. I thought it was called Captain Cook Highway. Maybe I've got that wrong. Ann Parker: oh. You could, I think you're talking highway 1 0 1, but in any case along the coast, it's beautiful. Yeah. Jenny Wheeler: It's gorgeous. You are an award-winning writer with eight books to your credit and they're called the Silver Rush Mystery Series, and they're set initially in Leadville, Colorado, although the most recent book, which we're going to be talking about today, you've moved to San Francisco.

Bill Pronzini, whose latest novel is “The Violated,” in conversation with Richard Wolinsky. Bill Pronzini has written over eighty books, including several in the Nameless Detective series of noir novels, as well as many stand-alone novels, short story collections and anthologies. His most recent novel, “The Violated” is the story of how a series of rapes affects a small Northern California city. His next Nameless Detective novel, “End Game,” comes out in June 2017. He is also the author of several solo and collaborative detective novels set in the old West and featuring a character named Quincannon, and science fiction novels and short stories co-authored with Barry Malzberg. Bill Pronzini is also the author of three books in the “Gun in Cheek” series, which examines writing so bad it's good — what he calls “alternative classics.” In this career-spanning interview, Bill Pronzini discusses his two 2017 novels as well as his history as a working writer. Back in the 1980s, Bill Pronzini occasionally served as guest co-interviewer and reviewer on KPFA's “Probabilities” radio program. He is married to the noted mystery author Marcia Muller, with whom he has sometimes collaborated. A shorter version of this interview was heard on KPFA's Bookwaves program. FEAR ME: The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead & Preacher Podcast

So they finally made the call, and the response was brilliantly funny. In a Monty Python-esque scene we find even God's fill in could not resist the command of the monster voice. We also see Carlos get dealt with, a great scene with Sheriff Root and Cassidy, the self demise of the dueling mascots and Quincannon with his meet daughter. All of this and then the town and everyone in it is destroyed. The slate is clean for a new second season we can't wait to see. We'll be taking a break over the next few weeks until Fear the Walking Dead returns on August 21st. Let us know what you thought about #Preacher or what you hope to see in the upcoming season of Fear. As always, listener feedback is much appreciated, so keep it up! *south kongress t-shirts available at https://teespring.com/southkongress * He's back! After a week with his OTHER friends in the American Midwest, Travis is back to reading comics and talking shop with yours truly! We touch a bit on his time at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (for the full story, listen to the 7/27/16 edition of the PW Torch East Coast Cast) and travels along the way. We talk a bit about the episode he skipped out on (thanks Trevor) before getting the visually stunning penultimate episode that was "Finish the Song". Jesse escapes custody, and eats "under the bridge brunch" with the locals. Tulip escapes her babysitting duties, and proceeds to see about a man in Albuquerque. And Emily escapes the lame she was seeing, who Cassidy, in turn, sees and eats. IT'S ALL RELATIVE! Jesse makes peace with Cassidy, Quincannon prepares for his greatest victory, and we go to Hell like 45 times. Deblanc does his best goalie impression, The Sheriff eases a bit of built up stress... and we'll never look at PetSmart the same way again on this week's Fan X Fan Show!

This week, with Travis Purifying himself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka, I'm joined by Trevor Reece of the 'Podcast of Two Worlds'! We talk about the insightful and detailed Flash coverage he does with partner in crime Chris Fimbres, his love of the source material, and of course, his adoration of 'Preacher'. He picks a great week to stalk stylized ultraviolence, as Jesse fends off the Quincannon boys with Karate, Choppers and Molotov cocktails! Blood will be shed and penises will be lost (no, really, shot smooth off)! We see the accident that causes Quincannon's change of heart, Donnie finds a way to circumvent Jesse's gift, and Tulip goes pup hunting! Eugene's back, Eugene's gone, Genesis is gone, Genesis is back... and Miles finally shows his hand. All this, a potential God run-in, and much more on this week's Fan X Fan Show!

*south kongress t-shirts available at https://teespring.com/southkongress * This week, I spend some time telling you that if you think diversity in comics is "PC", you're a piece of s**t. No, seriously, I do. And if you think that, you are. We talked about it, and I felt it was wrong to have platform like this and not talk race in America in the wake of what's been happened around us, well, all our lives. We touch on some things, and welcome feedback. However, the meat of this episode is the FANTASTIC follow up to the best 'Preacher' show so far. In "He Gone"... he gone! "He" is most notably Eugene, who was wished away to Hell (seriously) after a heated conversation with Jesse, who's more focused on putting butts in the seats than really helping people. A healthy heaping on flashbacks take place, as we see the incidents that brought Jesse and Tulip together, and at times set them apart. Cassidy struggles to find the good in Jesse, and takes drastic measures to bring it out of him. Tulip proves to be a world class athlete and a bottom shelf cook in the same day, Emily is the most down ass woman living, and Quincannon has a surprise for Jesse he can't quite accept! We find out Eugene's real crime (and why he's not behind bars maybe) and talk some Old Testament justice! All this, and Travis finds a way to hate on the greatness of Wally West newly unveiled "Kid Flash" costume on this week's Fan X Fan Show!

Quincannon continues to be my favorite, the Mayor is somewhere between the friend zone and the g spot, and Cassidy eviscerates himself into a kiss from Tulip! *south kongress t-shirts available at https://teespring.com/southkongress * This week, prior to our episode breakdown, we take the time to thank the lovely folks of Ashburn, VA, for rocking with us. Specifically because we know NO ONE there, y'all must really dig us! Also, we salute Belgium for the same reason, and I refrain from any waffle jokes. We talk just a bit about our weeks, I talk about how hard it is to get your friends to listen to your mixtape, and completely forget to talk about the greatness of the OJ Simpson 30 for 30 (even though I talked it up for 20 minutes of our preshow). This week's episode "The Possiblities" gives us a snuff film festival, Jesse with a really bad haircut, and proves that children are the most hurtful creatures on planet Earth. Tulip plays war vet, Cassidy plays middleman, and Jesse plays puppetmaster en route to figuring out just what the power is residing inside of him. Quincannon shines, Geico Peter Pan unwittingly throws his pops to the wolves, and our two "Agents" give us a closer look into their mission.
