Ed and Ron talk to superstar writer Scott Lobdell about his Nerd GOAT: Professor Charles Xavier! Our first guest to professionally write their own GOAT. Scott is a prolific comics writer and screenwriter who took over the X-Men for Marvel following the departure of Chris Claremont in the early 90s. He proceeded to steer the franchise for the next decade. He was the primary creative force behind mega-events such as Fatal Attractions, Age of Apocalypse and Onslaught. He was also a major contributor to the growth of Jim Lee's Wildstorm Universe, and currently writes Red Hood And The Outlaws for DC Comics. In addition, Scott wrote the hit film Happy Death Day for Blumhouse and the forthcoming reboot of Critters for Warner Brothers, among many, many other projects. — QUOTES: “I always said when I was breaking in that either I was gonna give up or Marvel was gonna give up, and Marvel gave up.” “You knew when Spock said ‘Jim’ … shit was bad.” “The audience isn’t dumb, we’re dumb, because we keep doing the same thing over and over…and over and over and over, and then we’re like, ‘Why isn’t the audience reacting to this?’” “It used to be that if somebody had a bad idea and you had a good idea, the good idea would win.” “Oh, no, he doesn’t shoot people in the balls anymore.” “When I think about writing the X-Men again, I think it would be fun because I think it needs a focus that it hasn’t had…in a few years.” — See Ed MERCILESSLY DESTROY on Movie Fights, and catch him every Wednesday on the Screen Junkies Universe livestream! Hey guys. This is one of those ideas that you formulate because you want to see your favourite character in something, and not necessarily because it seems like a good plan. I really want to see Jason Todd (not original but best Red Hood) in the DC cinematic universe. I think the world is gritty enough to support the origins of the character, his robust and angsty nature, and the possibility of killing him off. We've already been blessed by a pretty great adaptation of the Under The Red Hood comic, so this movie will have to be original, and depart from the classic telling. Similarly, if you modernize it too much, you risk treading on the Arkham Knight portrayal which is fantastic, but not what I see being integrated in the film 'verse. Jason Todd will still be the reckless, orphan boy who is discovered whilst trying to pry the tires off the Batmobile, but we will see a depth to his origin, a desire to help others, and also the skewed sense of justice and violence that we come to expect from him in his later years. It's after his death, at the hands of the Joker and Harley Quinn, that we discover a fraction in the League of Assassins. Talia Al Ghul and her loyalist members (like Bronze Tiger, Lady Shiva, etc.) fracture away from Ra's Al Ghul after witnessing his reliance on the Joker for his latest scheme. They feel his direction is off, and the time for his daughter to lead the empire is now. Talia convinces her followers that the revival and utilization of the dead Robin is a top priority, and he will be a crucial general in their eventual plans and battles. But in truth, she wants to bring him back for love of her "Detective" and hopes that reviving his lost son will curry her favour with Bruce. As Jason is smuggled into a hidden (and some said tainted) Lazarus Pit, his body and the cave are prepared for a ritual. I won't go too much more into it, but the waters revive Jason and bestow upon him unique powers and armour unseen before. Somewhere between shimmering glassine alien materials, and a daemonic energy and presence, The Red Hood is born again formidable and thankfully new enough that we haven't seen this dog and pony show before. Yes his reflective helmet will stay, but will look unique enough to suggest that perhaps he is a creature from the beyond, and not just a man under the mask.I've got a feeling none of this will end up in the DC world, no matter the medium, but hey. Enjoy the ramblings none the less. Also God of Four continues to be awesome. I have a soft spot for games that reflect cosmetically the upgrades you give your armour and stuff. So every additional dwarven detail or gold border to the Leviathan Axe makes me drool that little bit more.Stay alive out there guys, let me know what you like/hate this week.Cheers
