Superheroes, Movies & Superhero Movies: A Cinema Heroes Podcast
After a seven year wait, we finally got another, serious Batman movie. Gone were the campy, toy-sales driven, bat-nipple filled Batman movies. The fans wanted Batman taken seriously and director Christopher Nolan delivered the goods. Set in a much more realistic universe, Nolan gave us a Batman origin story, which was something we'd yet to see. It was a fantastic direction for not just Batman but comic book movies in general. As Bruce Wayne discovers how to be Batman, the movie sets up Scarecrow and Ra's al Ghul as his first adversaries. How does it hold up and what do the guys think of it? What do YOU think of Batman Begins? Let us know! Watch this episode on YouTube! Check out Christian Bale, Cillian Murphy and Eion Bailey's screen tests for Batman! Welcome back to our read of Grant Morrison's run on Batman! For this episode, Peter insisted we read Resurrection of Ra's al Ghul IN FULL... and he was *WRONG*, y'all. If you were thinking maybe you didn't get enough of a summary from the stunning Chris Burnham summary pages in the Grant Morrison Batman omnibus we are here so you can witness our suffering with this part recap, part mocking, and part lamentation on this lumpy uneventful event. If you are reading digitally, here's the correct order: Batman (1940) Annual 26, Robin (1993) Annual 7 (2nd story), Batman (1940) #670, Robin (1993) #168, Nightwing (1996) #138, Detective Comics (1937) #838, Batman (1940) #671, Robin (1993) #169, Nightwing (1996) #139, & Detective Comics (1937) #839. For this epic (re)read, Harry is our expert - he loves Batman and Morrison, and he has read this run multiple times. Fariha is our intermediate - she has read plenty of Morrison and DC, but not this run in full and never any pre-90s Batman. And, Peter is now the novice - he's read some of this run before, but otherwise this is his FIRST TIME reading ANY pre-New-52 Batman! Tune in next week for Batman R.I.P. in DC Universe (2008) #0 and Batman (1940) #676-681.

Joe Corallo and Eric Breen join Wes to talk about the introduction of classic Batman villain Ra's al Ghul. Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams introduce the villainous leader of the League of Shadows in Batman #232. It as almost a full year before Batman readers see Bruce Wayne and Ra's al Ghul face-off again in Batman #242. Ra's isn't the only memorable introduction, readers also meet Talia al Ghul and the infamous Lazarus Pits. There's also a fun running joke concerning longtime Batman character Matches Malone, who appears to die early in the story but keeps reappearing. Comic book readers consider Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams' Rascal Ghul Saga must read material in the annals of comic book history. "Hello, beloved." It's time to talk one of the Dark Knight's most formidable female foes/allies, Talia Al Ghul. Not only is she one of the most cunning tacticians in the DC universe, she's also one of the few people that have captured the amorous attention of Batman. She's also the mother of Damion Wayne, daughter of Ras Al Ghul, and heir to the League of Assassins in her father's absence. We discuss her creators, essential comic reads, and various adaptations. Also, what if Talia was in charge of another villain group in comics? Comic Book Keepers is hosted by the Geekly Grind. Reprinting the classic Batman stories of the early 70s on high quality baxter paper, this series, printed in the late 80s was a great collection of the creative powerhouse that was Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams. These are some of the best stories of the Dark Knight Detective and introduced us to perhaps his greatest foe.

Starling Tribune - Season 2 Edition – Broken Dolls The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network In this edition of the Starling Tribune the reporters Wing, Jay and Stargate Pioneer discuss the third season of season two titled “Broken Dolls.” The reporters mention how aptly named the episode is because several major female characters are “broken” including one who we do not even know who she is yet! And the Dollmaker is so evil he shakes all three reporters to the core. Reporter SP doesn't know who The Black Canary is (still) and it's up to Jay and Wing to give him the knowledge that he is sorely lacking, ESPECIALLY since he hasn't even starting reading the episode credits yet. While Jay and Wing do have background comic knowledge of The Black Canary and the comic references to the newly introduced ship's name Amazo, none of the reporters have background knowledge of Sin but the reporters have some interesting theories to share. There's even a brief diversion into Aquaman. Reporter SP also is stuck on dead bodies apparently now in both the DC and Marvel Comic Universes thanks to Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the Arrow pilot. Roy continues to be extremely reckless and is in sore need of training….as is Detective Lance apparently Mr. Starsky and Hutch. The Detective might need to learn police tactics in the 21st century but apparently everyone must listen to his names since “Arrow” catches on like wildfire. Oliver might have a new vigilante name but it doesn't help him run his company any better and it apparently doesn't help him sleep at home anymore either since the Queen Mansion seems to be a set of the past. Reporter SP gives a big shoutout to Stargate SG-1 alum Teryl Rothery who comes into Starling City as Moira's attorney and Reporters Jay and Wing geek out about the big reveal that Ra's al Ghul will be involved in the Arrow TV universe. The trio of reporters break down their weekly Bat Checklist and Reporter Jay gives a huge shoutout to listener Adam. Stay tuned until after the credits for some fun clips with Reporters Jay, Wing and JS. If you missed us live catch us next time and chime in yourself!
